4 yrs post VSG to RNY

Good to know you are doing good! You said you did the revision at your goal weight, did you lose Ms more weight after the revision or stay the same?
  2. Dr. Josh Roller (Roller Weight Loss) has a GREAT segment on the podcast he’s on going over best surgeries if you need revision. I just finished listening to it. It’s on Spotify (& others) “The Skinny Truth”. I’m set up to get the Modified DS in the next few weeks with him.

Sleeve Veteran researching revision to SADI

I finally have some appointments lined up. I am seeing the PA at the surgeons office tomorrow, the dietician in two weeks and I do a pre screening for a bariatric therapist this week. They don’t take my insurance and I THINk it said it’s $175 a session but I’m hoping I don’t need too many. None of this is mandatory for revision but I want to dive in this time 100% readh!! I am just excited that I should finally be getting answers and some help.
  4. I have also learned lots from people here who haven't done as well as they wanted to. Everyone has something to share. There's no shame in regain, it happens to loads of people for so many reasons. I say post away wherever you like. I suspect all you will get is well wishes. I really really hope you get a better sustainable result with your revision. You're doing a good thing for your health. 🤗

    Worst Cast Bypass (trigger warning)

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I originally had a sleeve and had several very rare complications that led to needing 7 surgeries in a year to correct everything. I had a revision to the bypass, which made all the difference and was life changing. I hate that the bypass wasn't the same for you. I'm glad you're home and starting on the road to getting better.

    Everyday diet post surgery.

My friend are you speaking to a therapist with relevant expertise? I know you are currently choosing your revision surgery and that's a huge decision. Please in the midst of that don't lose sight of your relationship with food and how you lost and regained weight in the past. We've all been there MANY times. Feel free to ignore me if you have all of this under control. You have done so well before and I know you can do again xxx xxx

    February 2024 Surgery Buddies?

I've been stalled for 3 weeks. I contacted the dietician and had her look over my food logs on the baritastic app. She told me stalls can last a month, sometimes more. She went on to tell me I wasn't getting enough fiber. So, I bought some Flaxseed and going eat more fiber foods to see if that was the thing keeping me stalled. How many grams of protein and carbs are you getting per day? I'm curious, every doctor or nutritionist seems to have a variety of how they do things. I believe you had the sleeve which would be a different nutritional guideline than mine since I've had gastric bypass. It's frustrating to work on doing the right thing, only for a lingering stall. It has been getting really hot in Oklahoma. Mid to high 90's. I have a hot job as it is. Sweating all the time, I thought just by the heat and sweating I would lose a few pounds. It truly is a marathon

    Help

Oh yes, you never open a medication that is a capsule form. can’t belief they told you to do that. The outer shell is to protect your digestive system and to ensure the medication is absorbed slowly. People with sleeve usually don’t need to take as many supplements as those with a bypass, Sadi, etc. as sleevers don’t have as much of a malabsorption issue as they do. I had to take a multivitamin and vitamin D with K. That was it. I only took the D with K for about 3 or 4 months and stopped the multi at about 8 months. But I stress that was me and what my blood work showed I needed (or was lacking in) or in my case didn’t need. Some sleevers are also required to take calcium and iron. Does your blood work show you have existing needs i.e you are lacking in some vitamin? This would be a staring point as to what you may need even pre surgery. Then subsequent tests will show if you drop in anything. As to whether you can take tablets or need to have patches, chewables, liquid, or mouth spray versions is really up to what your surgeons requires and what you are able to tolerate. I could swallow capsules from about day 4 or 5. (Regular sized capsules not those giant horse sized ones 🙂). General advice: take your multi after you’ve eaten. They can cause nausea if taken on an empty tummy. If you have to take two or more multis as your dose, spread them out across the day. Try one in the morning and one in the evening. don’t take your calcium at the same time as your iron. Your body can’t absorb them at the same time. Try one in the morning & the other in the evening. don’t take your iron within an hour or so of consuming any caffeine if you’re allowed caffeine. Caffeine reduces your ability to absorb iron by more than 60%. Ensure you’re getting regular blood tests. My surgeon required once every three months before visits but my GP had me do one in between so I was having one every 1.5 months. That way if anything unexpected was happening, we knew about it quickly. All the best.
  9. Congratulations! Be careful though. 15 bean soup sounds like a lot coming right off a liquid diet & this soon after surgery. I had my endoscopy today, my gastric bypass surgery was Feb. 2nd, 2024. I have an anastomotic stenosis(stricture) & an ulcer. I hate it but it definitely explains the pain & intolerance when eating & drinking & the abdominal pain.

    Is it only me?

Think it’s more common with bypass than sleeve though I recall a post a few years back & there was a mix of responses. Some frequent & loud. Some rare & quiet. Didn’t seem to matter which surgery in the first months post surgery. Could be something you’re eating especially if it isn’t every day. Could be your body adapting to your altered digestive system & also your general change of diet. I always remember an episode of Oprah when Dr Oz said every one farts even Oprah & the Queen. Lol! I believe the average is 13- 21 times a day. If you’re exceeding this maybe GasX may be worth exploring. Personally, I can be both loud & frequent or rare & quiet. I take creons, a pancreatic enzyme, which are known to increase farting frequency so I blame that on the windy days.

    Need suggestions please!!!

I can absolutely understand where you are coming from - I have a friend going through this about a year past her Gastric Bypass and it is one of the reasons I opted for the SADI instead (not that I know this will make a difference in terms of weight loss!) I'm a bit worried about getting to this point myself, where the weight keeps coming off - but then again, I seem to always need SOMETHING to worry about. My surgery is Monday morning. There are a lot of knowledgeable people who have commented here and I'm taking notes on their suggestions! That said - it kind of sounds like you might be remaining in ketosis from being so low sugar / low carb and I wonder if that's what is causing your continued significant weight loss? When I went shopping for all of my sugar-free items for my liquid diet I noticed there were keto versions and low-carb versions of some items. The advice given to add a small serving of potatoes or healthy fats like avocado sounds really smart and might help with that. I bet it also gets tiring hearing people comment on your weight loss. Has that been hard? Just curious - and honestly, even if you aren't right where you want to be atm - congratulations! It's a HUGE accomplishment to have reached this point and know what weight you LIKE your body at, and I hope you give yourself lots of pats on the back!
  12. I am assuming the bypass has resolved the issue?

    June 2024 Surgery Buddies

Whelp, now I'm so terrified about the surgery on Monday that I am psyching myself out thinking what if I die during surgery? What about my husband and our three young daughters? I'm thinking this is my addict brain trying any which way to prevent me from having this surgery, but there are risks. My doctor assigned a video for me to watch about gastric sleeve procedures, including benefits, complications, expectations, and 11 instances that the patient is at risk of death. So now I'm scared. I'm gonna talk to my Mom who had gastric bypass decades ago to try to chill me out, but anyone out there can calm my fears a bit. I'm also scared because I had some chicken breast and bunless cheeseburger, I'm putting myself at risk of death. Oh this cycle of nonsensical what-ifs is driving me mental!! Lol 😆 🤣 😂

    Deciding between bypass & sleeve

they're both good surgeries. There are some health conditions that would make one surgery more appropriate than the other for you, though. Your surgeon will - or should - let you know their thoughts - but if they say you're a good candidate for either, then it really comes down to personal preference. I had the bypass and love it - and I would make the same decision today. I went with bypass because I had GERD prior to surgery. My surgeon said that although he'd do either surgery, he'd recommend that I least consider the bypass because of my past GERD. The risk of my GERD getting worse with the sleeve was about 30%, and it wasn't worth the risk to me. Another reason was that when I had surgery nine years ago, the sleeve hadn't been done as a standalone surgery for very long - it was just then overtaking the lap band as the non-RNY option. I didn't really want to go with something that didn't yet have a proven track record or much research behind it. However, at this point, the sleeve has been around long enough that I'd no longer have that particular concern, but I'd still go with bypass in my case because of my prior GERD.
  15. i haven't been on here as long as catwoman, but in the 5+ years i have been, i've read of exactly TWO people who required a feeding tubes and who were/was regular contributors*. If i remember correctly, the first was an older lady in her sixties or seventies and she had a bybass (not a revision). I remember she had a whole slew of complications and was on a PICC line for months. The second one was younger (twenties i think), and i can't remember which WLS surgery she had but i do know it was not a revision either. She was not as sick for as long as the former, and was ok by the time she dropped off BP. I haven't seen either of them on the boards in a couple years. @alyssaajoan: are you worried about needing a tube? *i mention regular contributors, because i have read posts on here from people who write up a single post about problems they go through and disappear from the forums. i can't say for sure they are all trolls, but i take those posts with a grain of salt.

What’s for dinner? The non cooks version.

Yea. It’s really touch cooking small amounts. I know alot of people on here freeze a great deal. I haven’t gotten into that yet. I don’t have a ton of freezer space and I’m pretty unorganized so I may be able to do like one thing at a time but I don’t think creating a whole menu of frozen items is really for me. Anyways, i have been going back and forth since I’m pending revision in terms of my eating but when I a being good I eat a lot of salads. I love southwest and taco salads as well as market salad (a Copycat of Chick-fil-A salad that has chicken, nuts and fruit). @NickelChip suggested salmon on salad but I’m not a fan. I think I will try mahi mahi instead I just gotta figure out what else goes with that. I also like low carb wraps. I do a cheeseburger one, Philly cheesesteak (using deli roast beef that I just skillet fry for a few seconds), and grilled chicken Caesar. When I’m feeling extra fancy I will do chicken or beef stuffed peppers or zucchini boats with sausage. And when I’m craving Italian I will like cauliflower crust pizza or this low carb Italian bake I just found that’s basically lasagna without noodles but with Italian sausage (it’s low carb but but necessarily low calorie). That is pretty much my entire menu though which is why I am really hoping to expand my horizons. I get board and thats When I am tempted to eat off plan.

    Modified Duodenal Switch

Hello everyone. I think I finally found the forum I am looking for. Is the SADI S fhe same thing as the SADI?? I had gastric sleeve three years ago and was looking to convert to bypass but My dr told me today to start researching the SADI procedure.

Incision area bulge after Gastric Bypass

I’m doing ok. I had revision and it’s definitely not the same as I expected. It’s slow weight loss but at least it’s going down. Body take longer to heal compared to before. Over all can’t complaint. Thanks for asking!

Hi there! I live in the UK and i understand a lot of people on here are from america but im hoping i can google the equivalent here. So im a year post gastric bypass and had a lower wisdom tooth removed friday and came across the problem of not being able to take ibuprofen, ive been taking paracetamol (actually taking anadin extra before learning we arent supposed to have aspirin either! Oops) and rubbing ibuprofen gel on my jaw but its made me wonder, what the heck do we take for swelling and inflammation now?? Im going to ice my jaw because its still slightly swollen but im curious about the future and painkillers Sam

    Deciding between bypass & sleeve

I went with the sleeve. There are more restrictions with the bypass than the sleeve, so I asked My doc what he thought and he suggested the sleeve. I have been doing great thus far with it.

    Pain relief

I'm also just a year post-op, and I recently had some super weird severe shoulder pain (saw the Dr 😁) and I took a couple Advil/ibuprofen maybe 3x-4x in total over the course of a couple weeks. I ate first, and chewed a couple Tums. There was recently an episode of Dr. Weiner's podcast A Pound of Cure, where he addresses NSAIDs after bypass, and he touches on the spectrum of a very limited, careful taking of ibuprofen for a specific short term pain, vs someone who might have a chronic pain issue or injury that needs continuous dosing. Good luck and hope your jaw feels better soon!

    Bigger stomach?

I had surgery on 4/8/24. I had a bypass. I am able to drink fluids with no restrictions. I'm on the puree stage. At 2 weeks out I have only lost 16 pounds. The last 3 days the scale actually went up 2 lb. I'm not going to lie. This is an uncomfortable feeling. Specially because I'm sticking with Drs orders. I do notice that even though I eat 3 ounces of food and try to keep up with my fluid intake I don't get a "full" feeling. It does not take me a long time to eat. So I'm not sure how to feel about that.
  24. Hello everyone, I know that you've all seen a post like mine before. I'm exactly 9 days away from getting gastric bypass surgery. I've tried so many other things and have failed over the long term to keep off my weight. I'm at 436 (was 445), but the diet they put me on helped me lose a few pounds. I'm very, very anxious about the surgery. My mom had the surgery years and years ago when it wasn't as perfected and it didn't go well for her. She lost weight but had a ton of complications. My fear isn't really surrounding post op activities, but rather going through the surgery itself. I hope none of you think less of me, but I'm terrified. I'm even having nightmares about it. My wife got the sleeve a year ago and she didn't have outrageous pain or anything. She was quite doped up lol. I'm scared of going to sleep and waking up in immense pain. I guess that's the jist of it.
