NSV- crying at GoodWill in the dressing room
M2G replied to myrori's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is so great that you like what you see. It's amazing how much better we feel about ourselves when we feel good about our own image! Definitely a NSV!!! -
I went to the mall to pick up a couple of pair of shorts (I live in Florida and it's already hot and I have nothing that fits...a nice problem to have...but still a problem.) My thought was to just hit JC Penny's and pick up a few things. On my walk to the dept store, I passed by Old Navy which was having a nice sale. My inner fat girl voice said, "you have never fit into anything in Old Navy...keep walking." But I stopped in and checked out their linen shorts. Super cute! I pulled an XL shorts off the rack and tried them on. TOO BIG!! My mean inner fat girl voice said, "a Large will never fit your fat butt...put the XL back and come back another day when you lose more weight." But I grabbed the Large and a large tshirt and they fit fabulously!!! I was shocked. I thought I was looking at a different girl in the mirror! I'm not going to lie....I almost cried. I bought 3 pair and 3 tshirts! That shut that mean inner fat girl up!!

NSV - Now looking, well kind of average!
cludgie posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Ok, so had a tough day today, have just come home from holiday this afternoon, which always leaves me a little blue, and then weighed in, and have GAINED 2lb (ok, so I wasn't perfect wilst away, but 2lb feels a bit harsh!). So I'm in a bit of a mood, then I start to download my holiday pics, and I come across the only one of me, and I think on reflection that I look fairly average in it, I certainly didn't look at it and think woah I look soo fat (my usual response to any photo of me). So I am claiming this as an NSV (photo attached), please feel free to argue I don't want it sugar coated, I am still only 1/2 way to goal, and know thats still going to take some doing, but I think I look really very average, which was the pick me up I needed! Plus as a mini NSV along the way this week - ended up at the beach without swimwear, so stripped off to just my knickers, and sunbathed topless (I have NEVER done this before, let alone in the UK!!) - although this did result in all over sunburn!! Anyway enough from me! xx -
That is awesome Shelley. Keep up the good work. With numbers improving like they are not only do you look 10 years younger, but you probably added to years to your life. I love NSV's like this. I am also 3 months out and was thinking this morning how funny it is that I no longer even unbutton/unzip my pants. They are big enough that I just slip them on and put on a belt to keep them up. These are pants that came out of storage because they were too small to wear for the past several years.

I went kayaking for the first time in YEARS this past weekend. I am finally small enough, agile enough and flexible enough to get in and out of the kayak. My husband was SO HAPPY. Not only that, but we paddled for three hours. I thought for sure I was going to be sore as hell the next day and I wasn't at all. All those water aerobics classes with the webbed gloves and foam dumb bells really paid off!!! I'm ecstatic. Didn't catch one fish, but I don't even care. I had a glorious day!

Today was a grand day. I cleaned house ( including furniture moving) all day and didn't even get tired. My kids were playing in the toy room, when my 4 year old daughter hurt her finger. While hugging and kissing her booboo better, she hugged back and practically yelled, " mom!! Look!!! I can touch my hands together when I hug you!!! I haven't seen my best friend since surgery ( about 3 months). She didnot support me in my decision for wls so I didn't want her around until I was fully healed and able to eat well enough in front of her. I finally got the nerve to ask her over for dinner. Her hubby ( also my hubby's best friend) was flabbergasted!! He just kept complimenting me. She never said a thing. Which is fine. I don't need her to say anything. It was nice to be normal around people and NOT have them ask Oh!! And yesterday I ran for 10 straight on the treadmill!!! Yay!!!

20 min on treadmill and 10 min on bike. No back pain. Felt great! Also my stall is broken and I'm losing again. Was sleeved 4-24-12 and I'm down 51 lbs!

For all newbies, NSV= non-scale victory! We reward ourselves with them when we get a compliment, can bend over to tie our shoes, cross out knees or anything that we weren't able to do previous to losing weight! So, it is a non-scale victory!!! Congrats to all newbies and everyone else who gets one! Karen..aka..kll724

I can't believe I haven't updated my journal since one week post-op. I enjoy reading all the other journals, but have been lax in updating mine. Went back and got my list of things I wanted to do, so am updating it here: I hope to be able to do all these things when I lose some weight: 1) Ride my horse without worrying that I am breaking his back!! Too hot, haven't even tried. He's having fun in the pasture. 2) Have the energy to clean my house and shovel out all the stuff I gathered thru the years. I have more energy, and have started cleaning out some (namely clothes that are getting too big) but sad to say not real enthused about this yet!! 3) Stick my arm in that blood pressure thing at Walmart and not have it get stuck there!! And use a normal blood pressure cuff! Haven't tried it yet! 4) Walk somewhere without huffing and puffing and stopping to rest 20 times. Can walk 45 minutes on the treadmill and am finding daily walking a lot easier! 5) Get off all these pills I am taking - or at least most of them!! My blood pressure is pretty much normal now (with the pills), but it will probably be a while longer before I decrease them. My blood sugar has decreased but still a ways to go. Went off Metformin when I got the surgery. Going to the doctor tomorrow and will get blood tests for sugar, cholesterol, etc. 6) Quit getting my butt stuck in chairs/theatre seats, etc with arms. This has decreased dramatically, with just a 24 lb weight loss. 7) Have enough energy to play with grandkids, do some gardening, ride my bike. Stayed off the bike for the 6 weeks after surgery, still not gotten back on it yet. Maybe today if it's cool enough! 8) Not be the biggest person in the room. (Already accomplished this when I went to the bariatric clinic-how sad. Finally sat in a chair too big for me!! But I don't consider this a NSV) What a sick mentality I have that I rejoice that someone in the room is bigger than me - this isn't usually the case tho. 9) Do something besides read, crochet and watch soaps on tv all day long because I don't feel like doing much else. Still need to work on this. 10) I'm sure there are many more but I have gone brain-dead for now.

Thank you..I appreciate your comments. I have had several nsv. This is a really tough time in my life. Trying to stay positive. My fiance keeps telling me to stay off the scales! Lol. I really think I'm not getting enough calories. Haven't been able to take care of myself the way I should. I'm going to start though! Ty again.

Yesterday I took the dog for a walk/jog and partway through had to practically drag him and then he pouted, laid down and just kind of told me he needed to catch his breath. Poor thing was exhausted by the time we got home. So to be totally honest, he is kind of out of shape because of not going on walks because of cold weather and me not making him jog before. Nevertheless, I'm pretty proud of myself for tiring him out! I jogged more and more easily than I think I ever have before. Happy moment. Note to the other dog owners, I did watch his paw pads and make sure they were ok.

Today when completing my profile for my new Fitbit I realized for the first time in 20 years my BMI no longer puts me in the obese category! I'm now just officially overweight Now comes the challenge of moving into the "normal weight" category!! Jules

Yesterday I stopped at a Farmers Market on bike ride and I was very interested in a booth that was offering info on a fruit and veggie supplement (as I don't feel after protien, I get enough of) and the effects of exercise and oxidative stress on the body. Long story short the lady called me athlete, blush blush,, while yes I am riding like the wind and working out, I never thought of myself as an athlete!

That is wonderful!! Just reading all of your NSV's brought a sense of happiness to my heart, as I know what it feels like to not be able to do all of those things! I couldn't hardly fit in the high school desks when I was in high school! I haven't had the sleeve yet but I love reading all of these wonderful NSV's! Congrats girl!!! -
I flew to Fl this weekend. #1- On the plane I had about 3-4 inches of seat belt to take up!!! #2- I started getting a blister on my heel. I took off my shoe and sock sitting in the car and put on the band aid! #3- We sat out side at several cafe's and I was not afraid to sit in those plastic chairs with the arms and I fit comfortably! #4- I STAYED ON MY EATING SCHEDULE! I only ate 3/4 to 1 cup of food. And beleive you me I wanted to eat more! Fresh broiled scallops and shrimp! :bananapartyhat:
