At that point in my journey, most of my meals consisted of instant mashed potatoes made with powdered milk, GENEPRO (unflavored Protein powder), a little melted cheese and cayenne pepper. It wasn't a ton of protein, but with the 2TBSP meals nothing was going to be anyway. Not sure if you've tried any RTD (Ready to Drink) shakes or not, but they've been my saving grace since well before surgery and even today at 7 months out and past my goal. I love the Premier Protein strawberry flavor with Pure Protein banana a runner-up. Premier has 30g of protein in 11oz and Pure has 35g in the same 11oz. As MsUjima mentioned, Isopure is another option. I tolerated them before surgery, but afterwards they were too sweet and I couldn't choke them down. I ended up giving away the extra case I'd ordered because I couldn't deal with it. They're 40g of protein but in a 20oz bottle. If you're struggling to drink Fluid, the shakes give you more protein per ounce than the Isopure, but both are worth a try as it sounds like you just need something that works. Beyond that, it may be worth a call to your bariatric team as well. You could potentially have some other issue going on that they would have better questions to ask and advice to give depending on the answers.

I just ordered the Genepro to try. I haven't been able to find any I like cept for the already made premier protein shakes.

My Doctors nutritionist approved GNC lean shake 25. They fit the requirements and taste great. They have ready mixed and powder. Different flavor. After surgery to get more Protein in I'm going to see if using GENEPRO tasteless protein and add it to shakes. I will be able to get my protein in. Hope this helps. Tastes better than premiere or muscle milk. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

New idea for protein...and it tastes GOOD!
CanyonBaby replied to CanyonBaby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@purrfctangel Also look at GENEPRO, it has 30 grams per VERY small scoop (a little bigger than a tablespoon, I think), and is unflavored. There seems to be little info out there on it, but if it indeed is what they say it is, we may have found gold! I have been using it a while now, and I intend to ask my dietician on the 16th what her opinion is of it. Found it on Amazon.com. It mixes really well, compared to the other whey powders I've used. But I still use the other powder just in case the Genepro isn't what it claims to be and do. Have a good evening.... -
What do you eat in a day to get 70-80 G Protein
angryspice replied to loridee11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a vet, so I still do a protein shake or protein powder (usually genepro in pudding) on most days of the week, but there are definitely days I go without a supplement. on those days, I am typically eating some combination of the following foods: 3-4oz of meat or fish (~20-28 grams), greek yogurt (15g), a cup of beans (~15g+/-), Yasso frozen greek yogurt bars (5-6g each) various cheeses (~5-7g per serving), cashews (~5g per ~1/4 cup), eggs (6g each) oats (~2-3g per 1/4 cup). chia seeds (~2-3g per tbs), ground flaxseed (~1-2g per tbs), some veggies (peas in particular) and even bread and other carbs have small amounts of protein, and It all adds up at the end of the day. I always get 60+ grams per day, but usually more. I don't eat a lot of meat and try my best to limit all deli/processed meats, but I do find that is the easiest, most efficient way to get the protein in without a supplement. -

I had my surgery on 12/29/17. I have lost 46 pounds and feel great! I haven’t had any issues other than learning to eat slower. I am tolerating most foods and doing a decent job getting my water in. I am no longer a Diabetic and other medications have been cut in half. I am so happy I did this and suprised that the medical results are showing so fast. I exercise with weights 3 days a week and light cardio 3 days. I started taking Genepro Protein powder to keep my levels up. I’ve heard lots of complaints but it’s working for me. Love this website and being able to read everyone’s story. -
I'm at full liquids stage and just made myself a smoothie. 2 Tbs creamy peanut butter, 1/4 cup dry milk, 1/2 cup water, 2 icecubes, 1 packet stevia, 1/2 banana amd I put a Tbs of Genepro protein or whatever protein you have. Blend it and it's really good. This recipe was given to me by NUT so it's definitely approved!

Favorite unflavored protein?
Gracy0721 replied to hopefulmom76's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I too could not handle the flavored protein drinks post surgery. Recently I purchased GenePro unflavored protein powder. I mix it with Crystal Light and don't taste a thing. I have mixed it in scrambled eggs, pudding and soup...Love it!!! They offer a sample pack. -
Favorite unflavored protein?
hopefulmom76 replied to hopefulmom76's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
Looks like I need to check out genepro! Thanks everyone, I am still having a hard time with protein -
So I'm 2 days post LB...yay! Done Thurs the 16th. Overall doing well. I'm on a full liquid diet and they would like 50-60 Gm of Protein. So prior to surgery I got GENEPRO and unjury. I used both prior and noticed maybe a little gassy feeling. Today I made Soup with the Genepro mixed in. No problems. Had some Jello, no problems. Then about 3 hrs after the soup and an hour after the jello I got terrible gas pains! Like my prior labor pains, it was sooo bad. Took gas x, pain meds and laid down with a heating pad. So was this from the protein or the jello? Did it come back from surgery? I had very little gas pains today until this episode. My belly is still all bloated but not as painful.

Favorite unflavored protein?
Sara51692 replied to hopefulmom76's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I just tried unjury unflavored and hated it. I didn't even put NEAR the serving amount into a large bottle of Crystal Light and it had a bad aftertaste. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it...maybe try to sneak small amounts of it into my meals and Water all day? UGH. I do the Premier Protein premade chocolate ones and they're great, but I'm sick of sweet things. I'm looking forward to trying GENEPRO and nectar. -
Hi! I take the Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate chewables and the ProHealth Bariatric multivitamin chewable. I bought both from the hospital pharmacy initially, but they were almost $60 together. So, I went online and price matched, each brand’s website was the cheapest VS all other retailers I could find, so I ordered thru each of them. I didn’t even think of using other brands... that is now my today’s “DUH” moment. They offer a slight discount if you auto-ship, so I’ve done that for both. For the multivitamin chewable, I H.A.T.E the citrus flavor; but since I’m past one month post-op, my NP says I can switch to the pill. Honestly, anything would have sufficed as long as I don’t ever have to taste, smell or see the citrus flavor chewable ever again! I like that the pill form comes in a 90-day supply, so that will be helpful in cost per month. I think the Calcium Citrate chewies are $35 if you autoship. I’ve tried the ISO-PURE protein waters, they are fantastic! I’ve also had the protein shakes, I don’t really drink them anymore, my tummy does not agree post-op. I struggle with getting protein in, but I use the GenePro protein powder, it’s the only one my program suggested that isn’t flavored. I figured that would be best because I can add it to anything or any temp of food. It is a little more expensive than the others but it’s great and I have no complaints. Hope that helps! I know it can totally be overwhelming at first. Please reach out if you ever need a support!

If sweet isn't your thing. stay away from those shots. I ordered some before surgery and forgot about them until last week. I tried one and couldn't not even finish it. I have not tried adding to water to dilute. TOO sweet for me. Premier protein doesn't make me sick, im just sick of them! Ive recently bought genepro powder and that has helped. I need to be more dedicated to getting all that protein in also!

Things to get before and after surgery recommendations
kellym1220 replied to xjjano75's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Make sure you have enough protein shakes to last for one or two weeks...I WAY over bought and have had to throw expired stuff away. Even if you like something before surgery, there is no guarantee you will like it after! However, I second the 2 oz cups with lids. I still use those for nuts, salad dressings, etc and right after surgery, I used them for sugar free jello mixed with Genepro protein powder. -
I had DS on 12/14. I have to get 80-100grams of Protein a day. The only way I get close is with my GENEPRO. It is almost completely unflavored and mixes well. I put one scoop in 4oz of anything (Powerade, Vitamin Water, milk, decaf tea) and get 30g protein from the 4oz drink. I mixed it in warm broth yesterday. Not sure I would be able to do it without it. Brain is Hungry but Stomach is Not
Bryn910 replied to katiecat.batman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try adding flavorless protein powder to your crystal light to get your protein in. It is quite norma to not have the desire this early out. For some, it lasts months, for a variety of bariatric surgeries. I use Genepro brand powder to mix in with my crystal light. It clumps easily but use a blender bottle or blender to mix well -
Interesting. Everyone at my program, with the possible exception of the surgeon himself, regularly gave us dire warnings about stretching our sleeve, complete with wide eyes and wagging fingers. "If you eat too much, you will stretch your sleeve out and increase its capacity and this operation will be for nothing", they said. Of course, these are the same people who pointed me in the direction of GENEPRO as a good source of Protein. I will have to do some more investigation, but thank you for the information.

food and why I love/hate it.

@@CatKaren Thanks for the Genepro advice. I ordered it today on Amazon. Can I tell you that I love Prime. It'll be here on Thursday! I emptied out two shelves in my "cereal/pasta" cabinet and they are now filled with powdered protein- Raw Milk (haven't tried it-heard it's awful but a complete protein), Nectar, PB2 in regular and chocolate, and some other things I decided to try from Amazon. I also picked up a bag each of Gold Standard from Costco in Vanilla and Chocolate. Have to check out the various recipes online... -
Just not hungry...
MarvelGirl25 replied to MarvelGirl25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I’ve tried Atkins, Premiere Protein, Breakfast Essentials, Genepro, Muscle Milk, Orgain, Owyn, Proti, and a few other whey powders. I can’t tolerate any of them. I went through this whole process without drinking protein shakes. Pre op I chugged them because I wasn’t crazy about the taste but I didn’t think they were that bad. Post op I couldn’t even drink them, I threw up and gaged just looking at them. Idk what happened. I drink plain fairlife milk but never tried the power shakes. I’m willing to give it a shot. Is it super sweet? I tried the chocolate milk (not protein shake) and it was too sweet for my taste. -

I had a hard time with the protein shakes - they were all sweet and blech. I ended up switching to flavorless, dissolvable protein (Genepro) and just mixing it in with my water (and then adding Crystal Light drops). Since one tiny scoop was 30g of protein, it made it a lot easier! I still can't drink the sweet protein drinks. I'm entering my 5th week post-op, so I finally get to do soft foods and more meats. Definitely excited for new flavors! -
Nervous and not sure what I should be doing to prepare
wannaBthinsoon replied to Ready_For_Me_13's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Your posts sound a little like you are bouncing off the walls! lol I can imagine I will be just as excited as you are today. If you order the GENEPRO from Amazon, I got it delivered in 3 days. I was shocked that it really and truly has no taste. I tried the unjury unflavored in my oatmeal, and had to throw it away. It had a horrible after taste. I even tried holding my nose to eat it, and nope, couldn't do it. I'll be following you to see what kind of Vitamins are suggested, as I haven't looked into those yet. I may just purchase them from my surgeons office. Take care, and try to calm down! HA!! -
Thinning Hair - I know due to protein, but seeking advice PLEASE!!
Phil in IL replied to Aginn10's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have you tried the GenePro powder? It’s unflavored but has a lot of protein. -
I started blending the chocolate RTD with ice after surgery. The shake was too thick right out of the carton and did have a funny smell and after taste to me. The ice and blending loosened it up a little and made it tolerable (and gave it a little crunch which made it more appetizing from the ice chunks). I switched to GENEPRO and haven't looked back, a little frozen fruit, ice and genepro and I have myself a fruit smoothy everyday.

This is a one egg omelette with 1/2 scoop of Genepro mixed in, a few slices of cooked yellow squash, and skim milk mozzarella cheese. (it kind of fell apart because I added too much water). It was good and I ate about 3/4 of it. It is 21g of protein and 166 calories, so a pretty good bang for my buck. I feel like I'm retaining some water, probably too much salt, so I'm going to concentrate on getting my water in the rest of the day. -

Welcome! I had surgery 1/27 and had the same stall. And the same one pound gain! It will go away, I promise! Pick one day a week and weigh in instead of daily for sure! It's nothing you're doing wrong. It's your body adjusting! One pound is a good poop! Lol As far as protein, I have the worst time with protein drinks as well so have taken to putting Genepro in a morning green smoothie. Have you tried those? Or Genepro? It's flavorless and 30g of protein for 56 Cal scoop. I also put it in my oatmeal! I definitely eat most of my protein. My meals are pretty similar there days: meat and cheese, refried beans and cheese, chicken thighs, lots of seafood Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk
