I was originally going to do the sleeve but I was recently diagnosed with Acid Reflux so my surgeon suggested the bypass to avoid any issues with it down the road. I’m both really excited and nervous! Liquid diet consists of 100 oz. of water, protein shakes, broth, sugar free popsicles/jello, sugar free beverages and 2 cups of green non starchy veggies each day. Going to try to keep myself as busy as possible, 3 weeks of this sounds so daunting lol I haven’t really stocked up for post surgery yet because I hear your taste can change. I bought genepro flavorless protein power and chewable vitamins to be prepared. Going to try the same things for the week of liquid post op and then for purées I’ll Introduce a new food at a time to see how I do. Hoping I can do Greek yogurt, ricotta bake, tuna salad, chicken salad, cottage cheese, cream of chicken soup. So far I’m liking the premier protein shakes!

I can not go above 600 cal. usually between 470 - 600 per day . My surgeon was Dr. Nguyen. My starting weight 334 lbs, surgery weight 311, todays weight 283 lbs , total lost 51lbs, 23 pre-op and 28 post op. I do recall that I was really scared, I am not a fan of surgeries but the anesthesia kicked in and the surgery happened. I was told that it was like 90 minutes, the doctor called my family as well the recovery nurse they kept them informed all the way. I woke up in the recovery room, they have around 2 people per nurse. I actually felt ok no pain or nausea, the nurse told me that she was surprised as almost everyone will wake up with nausea. From there they wait until I actually was able to walk and go to the bathroom and then I was moved to the room upstairs. I was given morphine and something for the nausea on the IV. Pain was bearable I was encouraged to walk as soon as possible I did and it was ok no pain at all . I was release from the hospital after one night with some acid reducers and pain medication. I trew up once while in the hospital and once at home beside that nothing much to say. I am very tolerant to pain so my recollection might not be the normal What was more difficult was to find a protein powder that I do like, I end up doing some research and the only ones that I do like is Genepro which I order in amazon and premier protein which i do get at cotsco , this week I started to eat soft foods which made a huge difference as I do not depend as much on protein powder. I also started taking prune juice diluted to avoid constipation which helped greatly. Recovery was uneventful , I felt very tired the second week I had to take naps after that the third week I was back to normal What I can tell is while I was scared I have followed every instruction from the doctor and dietician the weight keeps melting and also the pain, I had knee, ankle and shoulder pains due to my weight , it has been the best decision ever . This Friday I have an appointment for follow up with my dietician , I hope it goes ok.

I am also 8 days post-op and have had up and down feelings. However, I try to remind myself that I just had major surgery and give myself a break. I had a dog which helps me get up and out. But then I do get tired and have had challenges of getting my liquids and protein. So i drink a glass of milk in the morning w Genepro which is unflavored and a great tri-peptide protein source. That helps because without protein we will feel tired. Friends who have had this surgery tell me to take it easy because we really do need to heal first. Depression can come too just because of the physical and hormonal changes so I'm actually sitting at my acupuncturist waiting for my appointment It's amazing how much this helps. Take care all and enjoy the holidays!!

Hi guys. How do I mix GENEPRO into hot decaf coffee without it being grainy? Also can I ditch the shakes since I use genepro now? I really don't like the shakes anymore. Sent from my Nexus 5 using the BariatricPal App

Good topic, I was debating whether I would start one like it myself. I bought the Lean Body premixed in bulk just before mysurgery - I liked the flavor just slightly less than the Muscle Milk but they had the Lean Body on sale. I found after surgery that though I can stomach the flavor (not as yummy as before but not gross, either), the consistency or SOMEthing makes it nearly impossible for me to swallow more than about 1/4 of a container of it at a time... I bought lots of Protein powder single serving samples at the local Vitamin store but didn't much like any of them enough... and I discovered that making Protein shakes, and drinking protein shakes... just wasn't something I was looking for. One of the samples was for a flavorless protein supplement that was ok but still make a major change to the texture of the drink which I didn't care for. Somewhere I found a link for MuscleGen Research's GENEPRO Protein Powder which is advertised as adding 30g of protein in a single tablespoon and that it doesn't change the flavor or texture of anything you add to it, so supposedly you could add it to coffee, sodas, food, whatever. I thought about it for a couple weeks then ultimately bought it from Amazon (saved me the hefty shipping charge) and it came a few days ago. I've just started adding one tablespoon to my 28oz shaker/bottle/drink container for the last 3 days and although there is a tiny bit of clumping, and a noticeable head of foam right after shaking, it really doesn't change the flavor of my crystal light, coffee, or Water in any way. Which is what I was looking for. I can also report (although I cannot knowledge-ably claim a causal relationship between the genepro and the loss) i broke my stall of almost 6 weeks in the last 2 days, which I am happy about. upping my protein was something I thought about for a long while but since I was over 60g everyday already didn't think was a necessity. If adding the 30g is what got the scale to move, I won't complain! fyi: http://smile.amazon.com/Musclegen-Research-Genepro-Genetic-Tri-Protein/dp/B00K6OSDYA/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1410996551&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=genepro

How many calories do you eat per day?
Missy161 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Coffee with half and half and real sugar in the morning (my splurge ) Protein shake around 9am Small lunch like a couple of cheese sticks or a laughing cow wedge a little fruit at lunch- I also like chicken salad with a couple of crackers ( rice or pita crackers) Maybe a protein bar late afternoon. Dinner I might have some grilled chicken, zucchinni noodles, cheese or tuna. I don't plan well enough so sometimes I'll just grab another laughing cow wedge and roll it up in turkey. Yesterday I wanted another cup of coffee so I added genepro to it- 30 grams of protein in my coffee. I also had a Powerade zero. I do r hold a great routine so I at least try to keep cheese sticks, protein shakes and cottage cheese around for a quick meal. I'm not a great example of how to do it, but it's working for me. Update on OCt sleevers.....
TerminiNutrition replied to ppressey24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One serving of GENEPRO is roughly 10g of Protein, not 30. It is scientifically impossible and this is now proven. Please use with caution. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Before you spend any more money on Genepro, read a few threads on it: And a better post about it: -
I tried to use GENEPRO in my coffee this morning but it got lumpy and then I found a lot at the bottom when I was done. Anyone have a trick for me to get it to blend smoothly? My coffee mug is probably 1.5 cups

Protein drinks are nasty. I only drank the necessary amount during pre-diet and the few weeks after surgery. I have not touched them since. Fortunately my doctor does not want me to use them at all now. My NUT tells me I should be eating my protein not drinking it. Of course early on you can't but that's such a short period of your life even though it feels like an eternity when you are in the middle of it. Premier Choc and Vanilla were my faves. But the Genepro unflavored was great because I would add it to homemade chicken and beef stock and it was delicious. It saved me because I could eat it with a spoon and felt like food but took care of my fluid requirements at the same time.

Recovery time for intense workouts & Sex

There is no way around it, you will lose muscle mass. I know I lost quite a bit. There is just no way during the rapid weight loss phase to take in enough protein to keep the amount of muscle we fat guys needed just to move. The most important thing is to establish the new habits that will endure the rest of our lives (hopefully). After about 9 months, that is when I started seeing body shaping. My shoulders and arms and dare I say, my glutes, started to become more prominent. Barbells? I started those at 6 weeks. It was pitiful. 10lbs and I would literally be panting by the time I left. Luckily the gym I go to is predominately senior citizens and just a few younger people that are in shape. No one judges that I have ever noticed. There are the occasional meat heads, but other people opinions carry very little weight so I was fine ignoring them. Though I don't see them anymore. Like most meat heads, they always injure themselves doing stupid crap. I recommend finding a good whey protein powder. Don't care what it cost, as long as it is a good one. What is a good one you are probably wondering? A good protein powder is one that has about 25 grams of protein per scoop. And it can be whey isolate or concetrate, but pass on anything taurine, soy, egg, and casein. They are decent proteins, but if you want to have muscle gains, there is no disputing whey is king. Oh, and the most important thing is that it is a powder that you will actually use. There are some damned expensive powders out there that IMO taste like crap. I personally use Gold Standard. Very trusted name and fair price. Oh, don't even consider GenePro. It's is utter crap. I've said my mind about that stuff plenty so I won't go into it again. My caloric intake right now is 2000-2500 calories. My protein is 150 - 200 grams a day. Here is an example of my tracking that I do, it should give you plenty of info: -

Losing very slowly - can anyone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?
Kindle replied to richdan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
1) your nut is an idiot by setting too high of expectations. I was down 17 pounds at 2 1/2 months and I never considered myself a slow loser. 2) drink more Water. You should shoot for 64 oz but more is better....I get closer to 100oz most days. 3)as for loriemoms nut saying shakes are artificial Protein, she, too, is an idiot. whey protein is simply the liquid portion of milk that settles to the top during the cheese making process....just like what settles out of yogurt or cottage cheese. There's nothing artificial about it. In fact, it is the number one, fastest, best absorbed form of protein available. Better than meat, eggs, tofu, fish, etc. GENEPRO, however IS artificial. It is a chemically modified molecule that started out as protein but no longer is. The company is a quack and cannot provide any amino acid profile for their product and has absolutely no science based studies supporting their claims or even show if our bodies can absorb it. Anyone with a basic understanding of biochemistry can look at their product and see it's not really protein. Good luck, you are doing great! -
Hi! I'm eating about 300 to 500 calories per day. My protein goal is a minimum of 65 grams. I'm on soft foods like cottage cheese, string cheese and yogurt. I use GenePro protein powder in my coffee in the AM OR I'll have a protein shake. No fruits or veggies until Wed. Starting week 4 I can have soft veggies and fruits. Doc wants me to drink 64 oz. Of water per day but I'm only able to get in the 40s most days. I have my one month follow up tomorrow. I'm anxious to hear what the doctor says about the stall. I need to break this thing...lol

Im almost certain the reason they're allowed to label it 30g of protein is because it has two asterisks next to it, stating **equivalencies based on the clinical trial (which i linked above). Even GENEPRO doesnt claim it has 30g of protein, because it absolutely doesnt. It literally states equivalency based upon THEIR clinical trial (that they paid for). Im surprised more nutrition companies haven't employed this tactic Its really not a huge deal though, and likely would make little to no difference unless youre getting the majority/almost all of your protein from Genepro. But if youre taking 1 serving of the stuff a day, its a moot point imo

Thank you maybe people will quit being so critical of GENEPRO. I am a long time user and I love it.
