My gastric sleeve story! Surgery on 12/5/17
Mom of 2 girls replied to Dianmi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Dianmi, I'm having surgery on the 14th and still on the liquid diet and I've been experiencing the same thing, I took 2 Dulcolax yesterday but it didn't do anything for me. Maybe this is tmi but I can go but it's very hard and very little and I fee like there's more, today I bought some Miralax hopefully that will help. -
My gastric sleeve story! Surgery on 12/5/17
Dianmi replied to Dianmi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Okkkk update. I went number two yayyyy it was not really bothering me not going I was just concerned, (sorry if this is tmi but i want to write everything in case it might help others) I went very little and it was kind of soft in consistency. Oooook let’s talk about something else. Food I have been eating the same meaty soup/purée for the past couple of days it has been good on my tummy and is delish. I I’m eating the same thing few days at a time so that when something doesn’t go down well I know exactly what it was. Ok other things that have been happening, my incisions have started feeling a bit tender like a little bit of pain and burning I think it was due to rubbing against clothing so I covered them and it has helped. Also yesterday and today I have felt week and a bit trembly for the first time. Yesterday was just for a few minutes today I feel week in general, idk maybe my body is complaining about not eating enough. The pain in the inside has diminished quite a bit is way way lower I can get up and down with very little pain, sometimes it is a bit stronger than others but nothing compared to how it was before. Overall I’m happy, I look skinnier and that always makes me feel good lol. The premiere protein shakes taste awesome the only thing is they leave a light after taste that is not very pleasant, idk if is just me or for everyone but it happens to me every time. Well that is it I think if anyone has any questions I’ll be glad to answer anything -
My gastric sleeve story! Surgery on 12/5/17
Dianmi replied to Dianmi's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Small mini update. I told you I was eating the 2 oz meal. That settle better in my belly I had a little bit of pain and there is ALWAYS Gad when I eat or drink anything even water but I didn’t feel uncomfortably full like my belly was going to explode. I feel satisfied but can’t really say I feel full I no longer know what full or hungry feel like I guess I feel filled but not full like before. It used to be a feeling in all of your stomach area is not anymore (understandingly) it centers in the middle and a little towards the left but not much. Two things I had not updated and I am sorry if is tmi. I got my period two day ago, let me mention I had not gotten it in about 3 months and also that I had an iud implantes Friday before surgery so idk if it has more to do with that than my vsg. Also I have not been able to go number two since day before surgery let’s see how that goes when the time comes. -
Does anyone get sleepy after having a protein shake?
chipmmunk posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
A bit of an odd question, but does anyone else have problems staying up after having their shake? Pre-op, I never even had a supplement shake. So since February, I have tried many different types (meal replacements, whey, vegan), and it always ends with me feeling super drowsy. For the first month or two, sometimes I would actually need to have a nap right after my shake. Ten months later, I can stay awake, but I feel very lethargic and just sit there, like a lump! lol When I'm at work, perhaps it is because I am distracted, but I can still somewhat function. But at home, I just sit on my couch, and can't move for half an hour or so. TMI: And often, I would have to go to the bathroom after having a shake, or at least I feel like I do... I need to do some more testing, but I had tested my blood pressure, and it was pretty low after I had my shake (usually it's excellent). Has anyone else experienced this? -
4 weeks post-op and constipated!
CarpeDiem129 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm about 4 weeks post-op now and badly constipated. I was having the opposite issue the first 2 weeks. What do/did you take for this? I called my nurse and she suggested Miralax, but I hate the bottle says it takes a few days to work. I don't want to wind up in the ER over this. TMI: It's been like a week and a half since I had a normal bathroom trip. The other day I went a little and it was hard and a little painful. -
Hey guys! I’ve been struggling with lately and now I’m getting scared. I’m sorry if this is tmi but I need some advice. My bowels are hard little pebbles and are covered in this yellow/white jelly like mucus. What’s going on?

Started period
Sqkysphnctr replied to HealthierLifestyle2018's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had mine start about a week later, and it's one of the worst periods I've ever had. *TMI alert* heavy beyond belief, I'm dizzy, and the stomach/bowel cramps that come along with my period is ridiculous. Supposedly that's normal with all the hormones being released in the burning off fat but it was scary the first day. Sent from my SM-G900V using BariatricPal mobile app -
So I was sleeved on 11/14. I am still on a shakes only diet until next week. Water is hard!!!...but I am doing it. I haven’t moved my bowels since surgery. I’ve been told by a friend that it’s because I don’t have any solids since I’m on liquid only. I’ve tried crushing up a gentle lax and still nothing...is this normal?

karen_marie replied to B.Annie's topic in The Gals' Room
@FluffyChix one of my friends got her tummy tuck the day before I got my RNY done (she had her RNY 3yrs ago). The first thing she was showing me and her other close girlfriends was how good her lady bits looked now LOL she was like 'look how pretty my bits are now! no more FUPA!' (TMI but FUPA (pronounced FOO-pah) stands for fat upper pubic area) -
Polycystic Kidney Disease and Gastric Bypass
mrsto replied to mrsto's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I haven't had any flare ups with the PKD, so I haven't had to take steroids. I've been pretty lucky so far, but as I age, things can change. It's a weird disease; no cure, but many people don't even know they have it and end up dying from something else. Even still, the last CT scan showed that my kidneys are enlarged with all the cysts, but there isn't really anything to do, unless the labs start to show impairment of function or they see protein in my urine. For now, it's just a bit of flank pain.....which comes and goes. I just have to be careful and clear all prescription drugs through my nephrologist. I take Meloxicam for joint pain, which he says is a huge no no. I'll have to figure that one out. Though I don't take it every day, it's been a wonder drug for me; the difference between painful/miserable walks, to being able to walk my dog for close to an hour without wanting to lay down in the middle of the street and cry. I've never heard of the IF diet, but I just looked it up online. It's very interesting. My husband stopped eating dinner a couple of months ago, and dropped a good amount of weight. He wasn't following that plan, but just decided to stop eating at around 4pm. It's worked well for him. I do have thyroid issues and have been taking meds for many years. I'm hypo-thyroid and have Hashimotos disease. My numbers are good on the dose of Synthroid I'm on, so I've got that part covered. I'm going to work with the nutritionist at my surgeon's office. I love her and she can help me get on an eating plan that works at this stage. This might be TMI, but I had a total hysterectomy a year before my band surgery, and it's 5 times harder to lose the same pound than it was before menopause and losing my ovaries. I remember "older" people always telling me to lose the weight while I'm young; it's much harder when you're older. I was young and cocky and didn't believe them. HA! And here I am.......struggling along Thanks for your input, FluffyChix - I appreciate it When did you have your surgery? I see you live in Texas. I'm in California, and we've been talking about possibly relocating to someplace around Austin (Hill Country), when we retire in a couple of years. -
GREEN POOP (sorry, TMI...lol...but seriously, I need to ask about this)
Creekimp13 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm on day 6 of my pre-op liquid diet. I'm surprised I'm pooping at all, since all I'm eating is jello, broth, fluids and protein drinks (and 100 calories of cream of wheat per day). Recently, I've started having greenish, kinda loose bowel movements. This was pretty alarming to me, cause I've always been told to associate green poo with infection. However, I've done some searches of different bariatric sites and found several people reporting the same weird green poo.......typically around day 6! At one of the sites, a doctor responds that this isn't a problem. Could be caused by bile and vitamins...and that it's fairly common. Has anyone else experienced the alien poo during the liquid diet? -
I Have a cholonoscopy today :/
Rainbow_Warrior replied to dreamingsmall's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Colonoscopies are a breeze. There's no problem whatsoever with the operation itself. My first colonoscopy in 2009 was a real learning experience. Having to take the Picoprep with warm water the afternoon before was a new experience. About two hours later, the bowel explosion occurs and the toilet bowl is a mess of runny brown as you literally fart all sorts of gas and liquid from your digestive system. Then, 30 to 45 minutes later, you're back in the toilet doing a lower volume version of what you did before. Sorry to those readers who regard this as "TMI" ... too much information ... but it's what happens. I had a second colonoscopy in 2011 then another in 2013 then another this year, 2017. In Australia, colonoscopies are a quick earner for surgeons who keep checking on you because you're in the at risk age-groups: 55-65 for men and 50-62 for women. To save all these exploratory, relatively expensive procedures which find very little, our national government started a MAIL-OUT program of bowel cancer test-kits about three years ago. One now rubs one's stool with a giant Q-tip then puts it in the sterile container and mails it back. The government test lab then advises you if the sample shows you at risk and gets a colonoscopy process organised. The mail-out program stops over 90% of the wasteful, expensive drains on people's health insurance and the national health budget. -
So my surgery is Tuesday 11/28 I woke up sick yesterday....of course. No fever just horribly runny nose and sore throat. I'm taking vitamin C and drinking tons of fluid any other advice? I'll rest as much as possible but I work 12 hour night shifts right up to the morning of surgery. Any help appreciated. Also (this may be tmi for some) I'm chronically anemic and was supposed to start my period the 30th and I guess because it's my lucky day I started early, this morning. Anyone else have issues with this right before surgery and should I be concerned that my hemoglobin will be too low for surgery?

11/13 was surgery and now I'm feelingly down and...
Paz68123 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all, I read a lot of the posts here but, other than the generalities, did not see a match to the questions/feelings I am having right now I look forward to your replies. This is probably going to be a long post so I had apologize in advance for monopolizing everyone's time. Maybe others have questions similar to mine and answers here can help more than just myself. I had gastric sleeve on 11/13. The pre-op diet was brutal and a real mind game but I knew I would shortly be on my way to a healthier lifestyle so it was, for me, fairly easy to push through. Surgery itself went extremely well. I was home the next day and off all pain meds two days later. I realize that is not completely typical so I am appreciative of the seeming simplicity of my procedure. So, I have been on the full liquids since returning home. The first few days were OK and each day since I have been gradually moving up my protein numbers as well as my water intake volume. "Sipping" is something I've never done! To help with that, I purchased a whole bunch of 1 ounce plastic "shot" glasses. It was less than 20 bucks for 500 on Amazon and I figured those little suckers would help me stay focused on taking small sips. I was right. For the last 10 days I have basically been following this plan in one form or another. As soon as I get up I start with either protein or water. - I pour 1/2 of 1 Premier protein container in to five 1 ounce cups. I proceed to drink a 1 ounce cup every 6-7 minutes using a repeating timer to keep me honest. Then I wait 20 minutes and start the same process with approximately 8-10 1 ounce water "shots."I am then wait 30 minutes and go back to protein then wait 20 minutes then go back to water. --It's not a perfect system especially when I am at work, but I generally stay on a good schedule and by the end of the day I am able to reach my 60 g of protein and I have been getting closer to my 48 ounces of water. FYI, I started out, like most everyone on here I guess, extremely obese. I nearly tipped 400 pounds on the scale at my heaviest and the day of surgery I weighed 384. I never had a problem losing big chunks of weight but keeping it off was a whole different story. I understand the surgery is only a starting point and most of my changes need to be mental, mixed in with some extra exercise too. I am planning nothing but winning, this time for life, but I am worried that I'm doing something wrong or not doing something exactly like I should be because I just don't feel "right " The first 10 days post op were fine. Sure, my mental hunger went off every five minutes as commercials on TV and other triggers would trick my mind into thinking I was hungry when I really was not at all. I did not waver and have not wavered. I am greatly looking forward to Monday when I start my puréed food stage. At least that will be something tangible. Well, the last two days or so I have not changed anything and yet my stomach has been, I don't know how to describe it, maybe bloated? Also, these last two days I have also been having worse reflux then anytime post-op and I'm also fighting to get to my water and protein goals as it has become tiresome and tedious since I'm not actually hungry. So, here is my first actual question. After reading the above, do you think I am doing something wrong? I'm very discouraged right now maybe even a little depressed and I just don't feel right. I feel like I'm doing something wrong or things aren't going to like they're supposed to going you or I am not on the right track. I don't know exactly how to explain it better other than to say I'm pretty sure it's just all in my head I can't escape the feelings of negativity I don't have any pain per se, except for the new newly found acid reflux. I'm not really going number two yet (TMI?) but I'm not sure if that's just normal. I'm not "eating" anything so really what's there to come out of that end! Don't get me wrong, I have been "going "every day or two, but the number twos are really just nothingness and basically just liquid. It's not like I have diarrhea, it's just that when I do go there's nothing really there. I know it's a long long road but right now it just seems like I am not doing something I should be because when I read a lot of the message board, I hear people having a few problems that I have not had. Is it just because I have not even started my vitamins or puréed food stage yet (Monday!)? I'm worried that I might be drinking too much or drinking too fast because it doesn't "feel" like I am losing any weight or that my stomach is any smaller than it used to be. I have not had any throat nor stomach restrictions nor feelings of being grossly overfull. Maybe I am just overreacting need to start the next stage of this process before I can't shake the feeling that I am doing something wrong. I want so badly to do this right and finally win at this decades long struggle. Thank you. -
TMI: I’m 3 days post op and things are super rough. I’m dry heaving and throwing up several times throughout the night! My vomit looks like it has bits of old blood in it. Is this normal?

Post Surgery Tastebuds Changes: tell me yours
RNY-Fall-2017 replied to GeTnBackuP's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had rny 10/17/17 & had it the whole first month but then it got better. I still have a little but nothing like the first month. I can handle cheese & milk fine but ice cream & protein shakes give me gas (but not the awful, AWFULLLL smell like right after surgery. TMI?!😂 I hope yours is temporary too, everyone’s body changes with this and it’s typical to have lactose intolerance post op that does last, however. 😬 If so can you take a gas pill every morning? That helped me. Hugs and keep your chin up! Jen -
Hmmm, that could be a possibility. And well, I just thought of something! You're "time of the month", could that be coming up soon? I noticed that when I was 2 weeks into the pre-op diet, mine came a whole week early, and during the 2nd week, I was worried that I was gaining weight b/c I wasn't "peeing enough". Sorry for the TMI, but I just know with me, I bloat like crazy before it hits.

A record of my experience... from start to finish... rants and all!
njgal replied to njgal's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Ok folks... 6 weeks out and a TMI post for y’all: Ok so THIS is constipation. 45 mins of agony on the toilet [emoji37] then an enema, which, 5-7 mins after being inserted, burned like hell. I must’ve damaged something beforehand. Needless to say hubby and I are a new kind of close now [emoji4] At the risk of being gross; didn’t realize this much had accumulated, I mean, I’ve been having bms daily so what gives? And I’d been taking fiber too so I guess it’s time to up it even more 🤨 Feeling better now. -
Today I learned the value of tiny baby bites. I usually get full and uncomfortable quickly. Well today I went to chick fil a and ordered the grilled chicken nuggets and was able to eat 7 nuggets in about half an gour by taking baby bites and chewing well. I filled up for a while...longer than ifI had gobbled up 3 nuggets and immediately get sick which is how I was mistakenly doing this entire time. One of my main issues pre op was eating too fast. There is a TMI story behind that statement which most can fugure out. Anyways, down to 240! So excited. Sent from my SM-G930T using BariatricPal mobile app

Hi everyone, My surgery is only 5 days away. Yikes! It's pretty much all I think about and I've gotta say - my brain has be going back and forth and back and forth. Should I? Shouldn't I? I know I'm making the right decision - I just think it's the finality of it all that is hitting me. I'm so thankful for this Board and I'm thankful for my binder. There is so much to learn! I did have a funny episode last night. I love popsicles. I absolutely love them and when I found this new brand that is sugar-free, but doesn't have the nasty saccharine and all of that, I got pretty excited. The brand is, "Outshine Fruit Bars." After a very, very long day at work, I settled into bed at about 8pm to watch a few of my DVR'd shows. Before I knew it, I ate 7 of them (hmm - wonder if this is part of my problem?). My stomach started to rumble and then I remember reading an article about an ingredient in sugar-free candy that was giving people diarrhea. I looked it up, and sure enough - the popsicles have Sorbitol in them - the ingredient that gives you diarrhea. Well, it's true. I was up all night long. Finally, at about 5am, I was done with the fun (TMI?). I guess eating 7 popsicles isn't such a great idea, no matter what the ingredients are! I'm living and learning

I’m 3 weeks out and craving fruit so badly. How far out did you start eating fruit and what did you choose? My other issue is that I’m not pooping at all (TMI, I know) and I feel like fruit might help that along. I’m taking Linzess and drinking a laxative tea with no results. I have a bottle of mag citrate, but I’m trying to avoid it.

Lol Not sure if your asking specifically me that question, but yes I am post op, 5 days. Feeling weak but still manageable. I am running a low grade fever. Going to see my GP tomorrow. Otherwise I work each day getting all my fluids. TMI: exploding diarrhea on 4 day post op. It was 6 day before having an actual BM. Felt better afterwards. Walking has been a challenge, it's very cold out, and with my fever, I just shiver. Sent from my Nexus 5 using BariatricPal mobile app
