Hi! Bear with me while I catch up over the last couple of days... My biggest NSV so far is something I just realized the other day and it's eating in public again. I didn't realize how much I was avoiding socializing because I was uncomfortable in restaurants. Meeting someone was always stressful. Besides the self esteem issues, there were always so many barriers. Will this chair hold my weight? Will I fit in this booth? Are people watching me eat? I'd always catch someone looking at me with a disgusted look so I focused on never making eye contact with anyone. Not great for quality of life. Sometime within the last month, I started eating in restaurants again on my own. I choose a new place to try, scope out the menu ahead of time for something healthy and then thoroughly enjoy a small fraction of it while staring at my phone like a normal person! Yay!

Pre-Op Journey

Two NSVs in one day! 1. I can stand in the doorways of our mobile home (they’re narrower than normal doors) without touching the frame on either side! 2. I can cross my legs without picking one up and pulling it onto the other! -

Day 14 - Biggest Non scale victory this far? Running again. I use to run 5Ks hike multiple times a week, and snowboard and kayak. So to be able to go run, and kayak makes my heart happy and the surgery so worth it! The fact that I'm looking forward to kayaking in Hawaii in March, and spelunking, that I signed up for 5 5ks/fun runs for the summer without fear. Those are the best NSV I could ask for! NSV: buying (and wearing) two pairs of boots this year that were not “wide calf”

Biggest NSV so far: happened today peeps. My MIL had given me a gift card for a place that sells nice clothes and household stuff. I thought I'd check out their bed linen but found myself in the clothing part. I haven't been into this store for ages so I nearly fell over myself when I found a few items I thought might fit me. Well! Not only was I spoiled for choice (zomg, I don't just have to buy the one plus size item available) but I found a gorgeous blue top that I thought I could even go DOWN a size! I'm genuinely shopping for clothes like regular people! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

#14 - Biggest NSV so far I'm going to change this to my biggest NSV this month .... hiking without feeling anxious I would be out of breath, sweaty, overly exhausted, and generally just feel embarrassed about my weight. That was a huge reason I avoided physical activity, I felt humiliated I was so out of shape.

#14 My biggest NSV so far. Last Saturday, I discovered I can pass the Army PT running requirement. A group of military recruits were being timed on the same track I was running on. It was an adrenaline rush to see if I could keep up with them. (The average age 17 to 31) I kept up with the person in the lead. I was still on the track running after all the recruits completed two miles. Not bad for an old woman who used to be morbidly obese.

Jan. 14th: My biggest NSVs so far are both related to travel and lifestyle. I am a minimalist and a backpacker. When traveling prior to this journey I always had to bring my own towel which was a bath sheet (the biggest one). This took up so much valuable backpack real estate it was a crying shame. I also had to travel with way too many spare bras (44H) just in case something happened while away, knowing I would not find my size easily or cheaply. Now regular towels wrap around/close just fine and I can rest assured that anywhere in the world will likely carry my new and common bra size (38D/DD) GRATEFUL BEYOND THE SCALE

Pre-Op Journey
hwequestrian replied to hwequestrian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Update: I have lost 14lbs total and 6 inches in the last two weeks! Ive had several NSVs! 1. I’ve gone down a jean size and can wear some shirts one size down as well. 2. I felt like running down the driveway to take some trash to the dumpster a few days ago, so I ran there and back (about 60 yards) without losing my breath! 3. I’m able to get on my horses easier. Less strain on them makes us both happier. 4. I’ve noticed my face is getting thinner. 5. I’ve had only 2-3 days of feeling bloated. 6. I’m feeling better mentally on a consistent basis. I have applied and been accepted to a Horseshoeing school for 12 weeks starting February 4th. I’ll be on my feet about 7 hours per day doing manual labor, so I expect the weight loss will be dramatic. I’m also hoping that I get to ONE-derland before I leave for school, which should be a reasonable goal if I continue the trend I’ve been on. I’ve started a goal list where I hit a goal every 2-4 pounds. I’m doing this because 5lbs may take 2-3 weeks, and I want to feel successful as often as possible. I’ve gone back through medical records to give myself encouragement (ex: I hit 208lbs yesterday. The last time I weighed 208 lbs was December 2016). This helps me because I imagine myself reversing the damage I’ve done to my body instead of feeling like it’s a long journey ahead. Anyway, long post so if you’re still here, thank you for reading! I will update as soon as I hit the 15lb total loss that I’m expecting in the next couple of days! -
Friends took me out to a market that was actually a food market! NSV is that i didn't spend any money!!! i was able to pick off their plates haha and had some of their gnocchi and arancini which kept down so easily! Didn't want to try too much etc so made sure my fluids were kept up So maybe rice will be ok after all but still bread bread bread so many burger and bread options tonight!! specially only as tomorrow is 4 weeks so fingers crossed

I had 2 people I hadn't seen in a while today tell me I was looking good and they could see a Weight loss. Now usually my mind goes " Don't I always look good?" but these were 2 people I respect very much, if they can see it, I am gratified. A very small NSV, but I am encouraged to have bigger NSV soon. And I may be doing something good after all and I'm going to keep on toward my target weight.

I had my rings resized from an 8.5 to a 6.5! Whoo hoo. I enjoy shopping now. I still buy a lot of stuff at Goodwill but I'm getting so close (3 lbs!) to my goal weight and then I will "invest" in some new things -- but truthfully I'm getting really good stuff at GW -- Ann Taylor, Ralph Lauren, Talbots, etc....they rarely had those in the plus section when I needed it. I can wear regular boots, no wide calves needed. My shoe size has gone down 1/2 size too. And I got an updated headshot for work and I really like it! My kids have also told me that they "don't remember" what I looked like before and that makes me happy. I notice that I am not as reluctant to get my picture taken as I used to be -- my "goal weight award" is to get our family portraits updated! Looking forward to planning that in the very near future. Best NSV is not to make the dreaded resolution to lose weight in the new year! I don't know why but that fact had me in tears on New Year's Eve....

They were huge fans of my NSV last night. Hubby still gives them piggyback rides to bed even though our 10yo is 5'3". I got to take a piggyback ride down the hall too this time! We are BUSY! ❤️❤️❤️

In the past two months I have been able to wear my wedding ring again, I can play more comfortably with my kids on the floor, get much less winded while walking on hills where we live in SF, and have been finding clothes in my closet that haven't fit in a long time! Hooray for NSVs! This is a great thread.

This is maybe a pre-emptive NSV since it won’t be until this afternoon, BUT... I’m getting my haircut in a pixie cut today after work! I’ve been wanting one since the last time I had one 12 years ago when I was at my lowest weight ever (until now). Nervous but it’s super exciting that I’m willing to take the plunge again for the first time in over a decade! The only reason I might back out is if she says the hair loss will be more apparent with the pixie cut, but otherwise I’m going to go for it and CAN’T WAIT!!

Hey that is a Great NSV and an ego booster. Hope you had bunches of fun there!

Hi everyone! I really enjoy reading about everyone's victories! Thanks for sharing. My NSV happened on New Year's Eve. We had some friends over and we decided to go sliding. Not only could I fit in the plastic sled, but I was able to walk up the hill without slowing down or huffing and puffing! What a great feeling!

NSV: vacation edition

I think it’s because of where it’s located - position and angle is impossible to reach otherwise! So interesting, learn something new every day. I'm thrilled that you had such exemplary NSVs on vacation. I hope to experience the same one day! -

Looks like you're having a ball! I'm so pleased Ireland is giving you lots of NSVs. I'm a wee bit biased but I do think it's a magical country! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app -
NSV: vacation edition

Love your positive post and it's great you achieved some wonderful nsv while on holidays. aaah Ireland! -
So I’m on an absolutely amazing trip to Ireland this week and it’s been fantastic both because, well, it’s IRELAND, and because it’s been chock full of NSVs. I am five months out from my RNY and as of the day I left home I am just about 70 lbs down (67.4 including two week pre-op). Some of my vacation NSVs: - my reaction to just about every picture that is taken of me is “OMG I LOOK SO GOOD!!”...total opposite of before weight loss - castles with a million stairs and huge hills to/from cool places like Giant’s Causeway don’t even cause me to get out of breath. I kept getting nervous and anticipated having a hard time with things that ended up being a breeze! - Lastly, one that is highly specific and special for me: I kissed the Blarney Stone! It involves 120+ very narrow winding stairs up and then someone holds you while you lie backwards and reach out to kiss it while you hold the bars and the person holding you helps. Even at my new weight I was self-conscious and nervous about whether I’d be able to do it or whether they’d look at me and tell me I was too big for it, but it went great! Here’s a not very flattering pic of it so you get the idea! I never ever would have had the confidence to try it before this weight loss. What a great feeling! What vacation specific NSVs have you had or do you look forward to??
