  1. I am in my 3 week stall too. I lost @ 25 in 2 weeks and then now just about 1 pound the last week. I was eating carbs in soup, so I went ahead and dropped it back down to 3 protien drinks, some eggs and cottage cheese yesterday. Scale was on the move down again this a.m. I am able to eat more than most i"ve seen on here though. I had 2 eggs last night without any discomfort.

    The Stall

I had the GS done on Sep 2nd and now I've hit the dreaded 3 week stall. I was wondering if anyone can tell how long I should expect this? I have a friend that has the GS and he said his lasted almost a month. I sure hope mine doesn't last that long. Anyone have and stall stories that can cheer me up. I kinda feel like a failure because of this.

    August 2019 Check In

Hi August friends! I was sleeved 8/5 and have been doing so much better! Been getting down liquids with no problems and eating good too. As of today I've lost 45 lbs. The only thing is, I've hit an almost 3 week stall. I cant seem to lose weight no matter what I do. How many calories is everyone eating? I track all my meals and at first I was eating around 900 - 1000 calories a day with 80 -90 grams of protein but since i hit a stall I cut my intake to about 600 calories a day. I've been eating very clean, sticking to tuna, chicken breast, skim milk, and haven't cheated or had anything I'm not suppose to. Even with the decrease in calories I'm still not losing weight. I know this is part of the journey and my body is probably in shock mode because i lost so much weight so fast but its just frustrating. Lol anyways, I hope everyone is doing great, especially mentally. Its crazy how much this surgery changes things. I use to think about food all the time and feel hungry 24/7 and now it doesn't consume my life. Its just nutrition I need to live. My self care has definitely improved because of this!

    Frustrated With The Scale!

More water....read the link in my sig. The 3 week stall is very common. Your body is replenishing its glycogen stores, that's why your weight has temporarily leveled off, but you're still losing fat.

    Frustrated With The Scale!

I am 4 weeks today and have been in a stall for a week now too. I keep telling myself it will all come off with time. I didn't have to do a pre op diet but lost 16 lbs the first 3 weeks (4 lbs, 9lbs, 3 lbs, 0 lbs). Hoping to see some movement on the scale again soon. I feel that I am doing all the right things. Glad to know the 3 week stall is common.

    July Sleevers

The dreaded 3 week stall. It's a very well known phenomenon in the world of VSG. Some have it a 2 weeks, others at 4 weeks but the majority have it at 3 weeks. Hang in there and keep following your doctor's orders and it will break. I promise.

Tired of "embracing the stall !"

Can you tell I'm VERY type A and have like zero patience??? Does it show??? Lol I know the 3 week stall is a huge thing but it still sucks !

WHAT am I doing wrong ?

I think you may have encountered the infamous 3 week stall which can last a week or more. It won’t be the only stall you’ll encounter on your journey. (I had one that lasted more than 3 weeks - not a single gram lost then I just started to lose again.) Some people suggest to stop weighing yourself in a stall or reduce how often you do. Keep following your eating plan and don’t stress about how much you lose each day or week - don’t let it mess with your head.
  9. Patience Grasshopper....I didn't lose much weight in first few weeks. I think it was like 4-5 pounds total while only eating an average of 300-400 calories. Most of this was probably due to swelling and healing so I didn't sweat it too much. You shouldn't either. The first few weeks are tough because of your body is recovering. Even if you lost a lot in the first week, you body is now probably saying "???? is going on? I had better hang on to Water and stuff as a safe guard!" Then your body figures out that this is the new normal and starts to release the fat for consumption. That is my take on the "3-week stall", it may not be totally accurate, but it helps me get my head around what my body is doing. Hope this helps.
  10. ...I had my VSG done on May 9th. I lost 20 lbs preop and 11.6 since surgery. I have not lost any weight for 9 days!!! I've heard of the dreaded 3 week stall but I've not lost since May 20th!! I've tried changing up my diet, drinking 64 oz of Water, adding one Protein shake a day but nothing has changed my weight. I haven't begun a formal exercise program but I have been out walking quite a bit just with being active and going places. I'm getting discouraged and wonder if I'll be the person the VSG doesn't work for!!!! Please help with any advice you can give!!!
  11. I lost what I thought was rapidly for the first 2 weeks, (16 pounds in 17 days) and then I hit the dreaded 3 week stall - which is where I sit currently. It seems it is different for everyone.

    Increasing calories

THE 3 WEEK STALL SEEMS TO JUST BE SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS BUT YES IF YOU INCREASE YOUR CALORIES SOME IT SHOULD HELP. YOUR BODY GETS USE TO ONLY HAVING 600 CALORIES SO IT STARTS TO TRY AND STORE THEM. IF YOU GIVE IT A LITTLE MORE IT SHOULD START BURNING THEM AGAIN AND YOU SHOULD START LOSING AGAIN.

    Tomorrow is my surgery day

How's everyone doing? I'm on mushies now. Week 3 postop. Weight loss totally stalled. I believe it's a thing, the 3 week stall.

4 weeks out and feeling defeated

You are right on schedule for the dreaded "3 week stall"... Don't get discouraged, stalls happen to everyone. I only weigh 1x week and I'm almost 3 months out. my last 3 weights were 184, 187, and 185. And that was while being sick and not getting more than 500 calories/day. I'll weigh tomorrow, and may or may not have lost. I'm not too worried about it, because in the meantime, my jeans went from snug to loose. So "stuff" is happening even if the scale doesn't say so. (I say return the scale. Not worth it if it makes you stress)

    September surgeries!

Thank you! I really hope I am but trying not to get my hopes up. Just broke a 3 week stall so trying to stay positive. It is a great feeling! So good every week I fear the scale stopping.

    Any sleevers March 25,2013

Is your wt loss since surgery? I had mine 23rd and lost 16 pounds prior to and 12 since the surgery. I have been stalled the last week and am really discuraged. I read about the 3 week stall but I also read about all these people down 30 pounds in a month. I do not wt myself everyday or even weekly. I just really want to be less than 300 and that is driving me crazy.
  18. Well today is a GREAT day. I am 4 weeks post op. My 3 week stall has seemed to pass!!! My diet is now my life time diet. I haven't had any issues with tolerating any foods. I feel full at my meals. Eating about 1/2 cup at a time. Maybe a little more if it is soupy. I am going today to start my gym membership and I couldn't be more excited! I can't wait to see what the next 1 month anniversary holds! Down 30 pounds and counting!

    Three Weeks Out

Kim, you may have reached the infamous 3 week stall. A lot of folks have experienced it. Take a deep breath and trust your scale will move soon. In the mean time, evaluate your progress so far: Are you getting in all your liquids? Are you getting the right amount of protein (60-80 grams depending on what your doctor recommends)? Are you eating enough? Sometimes you body may go into "starvation mode," especially if you are under 800 calories. Hope this helps! Hang in there. Stalls are a normal part of the process - I know that doesn't make it any less frustrating!!

    Help! Not losing weight

Search this website (or google) for the phrase "3 week stall." It happens to everyone.
  21. Absolutely. If you ate, say, 600 Calories on a Wednesday. And if, on that Wednesday, you burned, for example, 1800 calories, then you lost body fat. On that day, you lost body fat. And a little of other things, some protein. Not from muscle primarily like people say but from skin and intestinal lining which are high turnover proteins. The scale doesn't always reflect that linearly. You may retain water, or have inflammation. The people who say "I lost 21lb in the first two weeks and in week three I've stalled" - well, it's simple nonsense! They didn't lose anywhere close to 21lb in two weeks. It's takes a caloric deficit of 3500 Calories to lose 1lb which means that they'd have needed a deficit of 5250 Calories per day. Which even if they ran a marathon and ate absolutely nothing, is impossible. So...they almost certainly lost inflammation weight after their operation trauma, glycogen/water if their carbohydrate levels are much lower than pre-operatively and there will be other aspects too like serious dehydration. And this infamous 3 week stall? Well, all those things are largely finished and most people won't be doing the KFC buckets with extra fries in week three, so why is it? Normally increased fibre, giving roughage weight in the intestine and rehydration due to the ability to drink more water.

Lots of lbs flying off, is this much normal?

Everyone loses differently. That said, I lost 85lbs in the first 90 days. I just recently experienced a full 3 week stall, not a pound was lost, even after working out harder, drinking more fluids and carefully watching my intake. My body just had to readjust. I just noticed 2 pounds gone this morning. You will lose it fast, but do not worry or fret when it stalls. It will stall, you will want to do more to get it going again, but you have to let it run its course. I stopped worrying about it and it did start falling off again. Your loss is fast, but it may be that way for you. Best of luck!
  23. I've been stuck on the 3-week stall I didn't know it was a thing but for the last week I have not lost any weight and was getting very discouraged. Couldn't understand how I could be taking in so few calories and not losing but I do feel it's going to start dropping again looking forward to it. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App
  24. Hi everyone, I'm about a week shy from being 6mos post-op from VSG. I've lost about 45lbs so far but my weight loss has slowed dramatically. I haven't had a stall yet (didn't even have the infamous 3-week stall) and I'm really lucky for that, but I've been hovering at 155 for about 6 weeks now. It's really frustrating and I don't know what to do differently. I'm staying in my calories (about 1100/day at this point) and trying to stay active and hydrated. Am I just DONE losing weight at 6 months post op???! I still have 30lbs to goal!
  25. I noticed that my (almost 3 week) stall happened when I started incorporating food back into my diet! Just before 3 weeks I started having yogurt, refried Beans and scrambled eggs... Then BOOM... The weight loss stopped! I figured the body went into give me give me mode after not eating for almost 3 weeks and was trying to keep all those nutrients which caused a weight stall! Guess what I did yesterday?? I ate MORE! 3 meals! A full yogurt for Breakfast, as much refried beans as would fill my tummy without being over full (2 full spoons maybe a tad more) an iced coffee at Hastings and then about 15 beans out of a cup of Wendy's chili (beans and liquid only) then I weighed and tada.... 2.5 lb loss!!! Yep! I think I noticed the most inches lost was during the stall too! I have not yet freaked out about the sleeve, I just keep listening to my body and adjusting to what she is saying!
