So far so good. I do an Adkins right after my coffee (15g) then a Premier shake around lunch (30g) and I drink a Protein Water (20) between lunch and supper. Getting all the protein and water in is like a job I'm tracking everything on the MyPlate app. Friday my schedule (provided by my surgeon and NUT) said I could have mashed potatoes, but my body said 'nope'. So I'm sticking to my cream of chicken and canned Soups. I've had homestyle chicken noodle and had a little bit of the noodles and carrots...but they are so soft it's easy to smash them on the roof of my mouth. Any deviation of my schedule makes it hard to stay on track to get my protein and water in, so I'm trying to be vigilant. AND I think I may be going through the dreaded 3 week stall. Since Friday I gained 2.5lbs...but I haven't even eaten that many calories since my surgery so I don't even know how that's possible. I blame the mashed potatoes, I swear that's what I imagine a cleanse to be like. Who knows, maybe I'm retaining Fluid ('cause I DID suck on some sunflower seeds - my salt cravings are crazy. I sort of feel wasteful not eating the seeds, but I'm terrified after the mashed potato debacle). Nonetheless I'm gonna keep trucking. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Over 300's

I stopped weighing myself after 340. During the last two months of my doctor supervised diet I took it super seriously and started walking 1 hour per day 6 days a week and lost 40 pounds. I was 299 pounds when I was sleeved on 10/27/16. I just ended my 3 week stall and am losing again I weigh 266 today. It's absolutely possible. I'm am a 29 year old 5'5 female. 3. First thing, you're not losing weight because you are in the 3 week stall that we all had and is completely normal, not because of what you may or may not be eating. Honestly, it really doesn't matter what you're eating the first several months post op....the sheer calorie deficit is more than enough to make you lose weight almost automatically. Hope that makes you feel a bit better. That being said, you need Protein to heal and keep your muscle you're going to be losing with the weight. It also keeps you full and satisfied. If you are eating simple carbs and sugar, it's going to cause cravings. Try to JUST eat protein right now. If the dinners you're fixing involve a soft protein, nibble on that and nothing else. Keep dinners simple. What's wrong with a meat or fish with a veggie and let the rest of the family have the starch and you skip it? That's how I've cooked since surgery. Making spaghetti? You eat the meat and sauce and the family gets the Pasta. pizza? Eat the toppings. Tacos? Have the ground beef, cheese refried Beans and no tortilla. See? Keep it simple and it will be easier for you to stick to your plan. Protein is the key! Eat as much of that as you want through out the day!

    So upset... 2wks out

I agree, 9 lbs is great! I'm 11 days out and have lost 6 lbs, so you are doing better than me. Don't stress about it or it will slow down. Weigh ins only once per week if you have a hard time mentally. And the 3 week stall is yet to come... Take your measurements if you haven't already, it will usually show a loss even when your scale doesn't. Nilla

    Stalls-Please share your experiences

Your questions are long and over thinking something that is pretty simple. Most long term successful people don't care about stalls and don't focus on them, so expect a lot of newbie responses that are going to be basically useless. My weight loss has gone in different stages. At first I lost every day or every other day. Besides the 3 week stall, no stalls until 5 months. I stall at significant numbers. My body is trying to defend it's set point, eventually as long as I keep doing the same thing, my body has to give up and lose. I was over 300 pounds for 18 years. When I got under 300 I stalled in the 290s gaining and losing for a month. Then boom huge weight loss and I was basically 275 in a couple weeks. Then at 250ish I stalled out and kept gaining and losing then I was 240. Same at 230. I was stuck at 220 for 2 months and I maybe it was over, then I lost 12 pounds in a week. Then I slowly lost 10 pounds over like 4 weeks. Now I am stuck at 199. I know it is a stupid pointless stall and I expect when it is over to wake up 195 or 194 or something one day. Because I am still shrinking. I lost like 5 inches totally off my upper torso in 2 weeks but stayed the same weight so I know the weight is coming off. Stalls for me, mean losing inches, lots of inches. I used to stress about them but by the 9 month mark I realized how they worked and I don't care that much any more. It is just an annoyance. Now I also stall a lot because I do not take any kind of hormonal birth control. I have a non hormonal IUD. For most of 2016, I have had a period every 2 to 3 weeks so those make up a lot of my stalls. Weighing myself everyday at the exact same time (wake up, urinate, weigh) has allowed me to better understand my weight fluctuations. At 16 almost 17 months, I don't care about stalls. If you want to properly track your loss measure every week and track it in a spreadsheet along with the scale. I am also a big fan of regular quarterly DEXA scans. I broke a stall this summer playing pokemon. I walked 20 miles in like a 48 hour time period and broke a stall. That was accidental not on purpose. When I got tired of being stuck at 220, I did a fat fast to drop weight. I eat Keto normally, and a fat fast is something people on keto do to break a stall. If I stay at 199 another week, I might try it again. The only reason I want to rush a drop is because I want to have plastics late summer, early fall and I need to get to a 30/31 bmi and hold it ASAP.

    Stall?

I have heard that there is a 3 week stall as well as a 3 month stall. Has anyone experienced the 3 month stall? Cause that is where I am right now. Sent from my XT1080 using the BariatricPal App

    Stall?

My 3 week stall lasted 9 excruciating days and when it was over, 5lbs.the next week. As long as you are doing what you should be doing, the weight loss will come. We just have to be patient.

    Stall?

Let it pass. I didn't lose a thing from 7 days post til 22 days. I was enraged b/c I was self pay and thought I'd wasted all this money and put myself through surgery. Week 3 I lost 9 lbs. I guess my 3 week stall came week early! Try keeping off the scale for a week. Now that I've broken a stall each one is getting easier to handle because I know that it's just a matter of time. You'll start losing again as long as you stay on plan. Thank you this gives me hope. doesn't it just feel like forever? That's the hard part waiting for it to break. I sure hope it gets easier lol scale is away. I never owned a scale before should have kept it that way maybe it wouldn't stress me out as much lol Sent from my SGH-I317M using the BariatricPal App YES, it feels like forever! I was still on liquids and was so pissed, lol. Like wtf, I'm not even eating food and I'm not losing anything. I told my nurse about it at my one month post and she said that our weight loss isn't perfectly linear, we lose weight in steps more than a straight line. Just stick to your plan, it'll happen! That's how I'm feeling is angry lol. Like seriously question wth could I be doing that is causing this . Even though I read and read and see its normal. But still. Don't think any amount of reading about it prepares you for what you feel after! Your stall Def came early just like mine too. Ah thanks for your words it's great to just feel like I'm not a complete idiot and failure lol. I have done amazing at sticking to my plan so I think it makes me expect to just keep dropping the lbs lol but no. Not reality. Sent from my SGH-I317M using the BariatricPal App

  13. I know I've read so much on the dreaded 3 weeks stall. I am 3 weeks out today and have stalled on the scale since week two. even reading about it still feel mentally unprepared. I keep thinking the surgery isn't working for me lol I know crazy. .or that maybe I'm eating too much. . I get about 55oz of Water each day and between 50-65 grams of protien . My goal is 60-70 .. try my best but it's hard some days. So I guess my question is so I need to change something or do you just let it pass? Ps. I have also put my scale away so I will not be weighing myself until my month post op apt. But this is literally driving me crazy. Even though I know it happens... and it's normal. Ugh. 15. I am 5 weeks post-op and am cleared to eat anything I want (OK, no alcohol, no carbonation). I have been doing really well all along, didn't have the 3 week stall, feeling pretty good, eating most meats (well-chewed), etc. About a week ago, I started feeling "full" almost immediately when I eat. My full feeling is actually pressure-pain behind my breastbone. I'm beginning to worry about this. I am to the point where about the only Protein I can eat is cheese and cottage cheese. I've been mincing any meat and moistening it with broth, but I still can only get down about 1 tablespoon before I am uncomfortable. I do OK with liquids, so I've resumed drinking my Protein shakes, but have found that the milk-based ones fill me up pretty quickly, too; I am able to drink an entire 8oz of water-based Protein drinks but only about half of the milky ones. Should I be worried? What should I be worried about?I feel like I'm so far post-op that I shouldn't be calling my surgeon with this, but I don't know. I have an appointment with my Nut in a week and am hoping this straightens out by then. I am thinking of going back onto my liquids diet for awhile, to see if my insides smooth out a bit (I have plenty of turkey broth, hahaha, given I cooked a 14 pound turkey yesterday!). It just seems like I'm going backwards in my ability to tolerate different foods. Has anyone had this experience, or have any advice/suggestions?

    Just wondering

It's the 3 week stall, just a reality, learn to live with it, but stay on program. Mine lasted about 8 or 9 days, I didn't lose an ounce e. Then it started up again and has been steady. But you already know about, so why are you venting. Sent from my SM-N910T using the BariatricPal App

    Week 3 approaching 4 stall?

Oh man. I am too! It's tough because everyone that knows I had surgery keeps asking me how much I've lost and I have to explain the 3 week stall to them. Lol. This Tuesday will be my 4th week and I've weighted the same the last like 4 days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Laying The Groundwork

I couldn't like this post more!!!! I started my journey at 397 pounds in March, and I lost 99 pounds during my six-month, insurance-required diet program. It was the BEST thing I ever did for myself, and I think that it is AWESOME that you are taking that same path. There are so many benefits (health-wise and otherwise). And think how great it will be when the 3 week stall hits (and it will hit) and you will have lost 60 or 70 pounds by then rather than just 10 or 20 pounds if you waited on the surgery to begin. The mental save of that piece alone is a big reward. (I would never have handled my 3 week stall as well as I did if I had lost 20 pounds at that point rather than 120 pounds....) Congratulations. Good for you!!

    Stall already?

Nope, you're not doing anything wrong. It's the 3 week stall that 99% of people go though. Just keep getting all of your fluids and protein in and it will pass. If it's going to drive you crazy, try to stay off the scale.

    Fruits and Veggies?

Thank you for the comments. I have been in a 3 week stall, and have to wonder if it is the fruits and veggies. Not sure. I agree that they are nutritious so it is hard for me to believe I need to cut them out. I am experimenting and will see what happens.

    Just need some encouragement

I am 8 months post op and also hit that dreaded 3 week stall. I also tend to go up and down thru the month so don't worry it's just your body adjusting. As long as you follow your plan to the letter dont worry. I have lost 7-9 lbs a month from 2nd month. Sent from my SM-G930T using the BariatricPal App
