  1. I didn't know Dr. Weiner had a support group! I've seen his videos on YouTube and I think he is awesome. He seems to understand and genuinely care about bariatric patients. I can imagine that his support group would be excellent for someone who doesn't have access to a local support group or therapist. This is really good info for the people on this forum.
  2. New week new things that I grieve ... pre-menstruation hunger and menstruation hunger needs to be further talked about in the bariatric community.

Movement! Did you MOVE today?! Great!

This may be a good advice for other people this has stuck with me for a long time. In another bariatric group this lady on zoom made a statement "Hunger is not an emergency" this resonated with me. Hunger really is not an emergency for the past 3 plus months I fast from 8pm to 12pm about 16 hours. Once you mentally prepare yourself it's a breeze. I tell myself hunger is not an emergency and there we go!
  4. My bariatric multivitamin from pro care has 45g of iron and in my labs my iron levels are fine. I also went 2 months on a bari vitamin without iron and got labs done welp let's just say I have to have iron!

    New to the forum

Welcome! I had my RNY last August (2023) and continue the journey. People on here don't give medical advice, they do offer suggestions or insight/experiences they've themselves have gone through. So no worries, no one will ask you to give medical advice. I personally have noticed I get more in-depth knowledge here than my bariatric surgeon or the bariatric clinic, probably because here people have gone through it and understand and are less likely to chalk it up to "women" or "obese people" complaining or imagining things or...its something other than the bariatric surgery causing ______________ (fill in the blank). We've all experienced some of the same things and some unique signs and symptoms. We all know surgery outcomes and side effects can be unique to each patient. Welcome to the forums!
  6. the two they usually measure for are ALT and AST. But not all clinics test for those, so not everyone knows their values (actually, my bariatric clinic doesn't test for them, either - I'd gone to my primary care provider for some reason or another (it's been eight or nine years, so I don't remember why) and she did some panel that included liver values. She freaked about it, but my bariatric clinic knew what was going on - and again, they were back down to normal once I was about a year out).. They go up because rapid weight loss is really hard on the liver.
  7. Hi everyone, Has anyone in the UK managed to get Mounjaro from any of the companies prescribing it after sleeve? The ones I’ve looked at say prev bariatric surgery means you’re not suitable. I’m 6 years out and finding it harder to keep the cravings at bay so weight has crept up a bit. My BMI is 35 so would qualify from that point of view.

    Psych evaluation?

How long did it usually take you guys to get your results? It's only been 3 days and I'm already nervous as heck. I was going to wait at least a week before calling the bariatric clinic to see if they have my results yet but... yeah... nervous.

    Psych evaluation?

No my followup is on the 30th. Wednesday is just a week after I had my psych eval. I called the bariatric clinic Monday they said it takes at least a week for the results and to call back Wednesday and they should have the results then. So tomorrow hopefully I should know how the appointment went.

Weight loss after pregnancy post WLS?!

That's my biggest fear and that's why I'm in various bariatric groups. I do not want to gain any of this weight back! It was hard work getting it off 😩😩😩
  11. There are some specific Bariatric journals on Amazon - I don’t know if something like that would help in the beginning?
  12. Hello all! I had my SADI-S done on July 17th and I was trying to find a community/support from others who have gone through bariatric surgery. Both my parents had the RYGB over 10+ years ago, so I guess I'm not really new to bariatric surgery, but I am new to all things SADI/sleeve. I'm currently taking the Bariatric Advantage multiEA with iron and they are...gross. So I'm curious to the alternative people have been taking, but that also meet with the SADI requirements, since I know the malabsorption is an issue. I'm diabetic, and on the Omnipod insulin pump, but with U-500 Humalin instead of U-100. I am extremely insulin resistant, even after the surgery. But it has been way better than before the surgery, so whoo hoo. I think I'm just looking for people to share their own stories with the sleeve/SADI and any tips/tricks along the way.

How to get back on track

Finding a reliable dietician who is knows a thing or two about bariatric surgery is hard to do in my area. I went to Carmel, Indiana for my surgery.
  14. Hi everyone I’m currently just gone 7 months post op and just got my bloodwork back from the vitamin and minerals panel my surgeon had me do and it turns out i’m very low on Vitamin A. I realise i’m super uneducated on what vitamin A is/comes from and how to remedy it. I take a daily bariatric vitamin - one that was prescribed by my surgeon and it seems to be doing the trick on all other necessary levels of vitamins but A. I’ve tried to research a little but so far i’m not understanding how to manage this or where it comes from. All i’ve seen is that it’s common in bariatric patients ? I’m seeing my surgeon mid november so it’s a little far out from now and i kind of want to know a little about it before my appointment. If anyone has any insight it’ll be greatly appreciated !

    Food Before and After Photos

I feel that this topic is my favorite topic on bariatric pal. I love food! Everyone's food look so good! I'm glad to see that most have self control. Some foods posted I wish I could eat 😐😐😐, due to my food addiction I have to run from it like the plague.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

@Chatterboxdea when I was newly post op someone in the bariatric community told me to keep some old cloths! I am so glad I did. When you've been obese for so long your mind plays tricks with you. Psychologically I think I have not came far but when I put on old cloths it is a testament. I also have to take many before and after photos.
  17. Ooh. What about the protein shots they sell right here on bariatric pal. Maybe they would be better for you.
  18. No worries.i haven't had a period since 2018, so I can't use that as a guide. I've been to nutrition and my bariatric team. Nutrition gave me calorie and macro goals and I'll repeat a body composition the end of October. What's funny is I haven't changed how I eat, just tracking, and I've meet or exceeded the goals given. They also did blood work and everything checks out fine. At this point, the only thing I can think of are the times my activity level has been higher. However, I compensate for that by eating more calories. I'm very in tune with my body and adjust my eating as needed. I guess the key factor is calorie input/output. Also, my bariatric team seems to think the body composition was inaccurate. We'll see what the end of October brings.
  19. I just watched a video on the procare website that you might enjoy. I get my Bariatric vitamins from procare and they always have very informative doctors etc come on. A few key points made 1. everybody loses weight after bariatric surgery. 2. not everybody maintains weight loss. 3. after gastric sleeve 7 to 50% will gain weight after the seventh year Mark . he goes on to state that success is not about fault, but about physiology he goes onto state that surgery does not change your genetics. he goes on to state that those of us who gain weight have a calorie balance issue our body is not balancing it like it should. versus a person who does not gain weight. he goes on to state that movement at least five times a week is very important and that determining physical hunger versus emotional hunger is very important. Etc give it a look

    August Surgery buddies

Bariatric fusion.com has quite a few recipes that look like they may actually be good when we get back to normal foods. And lots of protein shake and purée recipes too. Just FYI
  21. I had to add the laughing emoji on your last comment because that bullshit button is awesome. If only we all had one on our foreheads that other people could press as needed... (although we would probably not appreciate it so much in the moment, I'm thinking). Good luck on your trip and remember to give yourself grace as you navigate a totally new life experience of being a bariatric patient in a different environment, with family, during the holidays. It's not going to go perfectly, and that's fine.

    August Surgery buddies

I am asking for your help/advice. I am a physical therapist and I underwent my own bariatric surgery in 2022. I am looking to develop a unique bariatric program that provides exercise programs and support to people undergoing rapid weight loss whether from surgery or from medication. If you guys could answer a few questions for me it would be greatly appreciated and would help me build my practice! 1. Did you exercise before surgery? And what was your biggest challenge? 2. Would you have benefited from a preop physical therapy appointment to develop a customize strength training program that took into consideration your current limitations and orthopedic issues. 3. how were you educated on post operative activity and physical restrictions? Would you have liked a week by week guide on what activities you can return to and when? 4. Were you educated on exercises to maintain muscle mass through your first year postoperatively? 5. What kind of exercises did you do postoperatively in the first year? Did you hire a personal trainer? Join the gym? Search online? 6. Did you develop any new or worsening musculoskeletal pain as you were more mobile and your body composition changed? 7. Let me know if you have any other ideas on how having a physical therapist on your bariatric team would have benefited you both before and after surgery. Thanks so much everyone. I may be piloting this program with a few patients. Email me if you’re interested (I’m licensed to treat in N.C.) contact@localpointpt.com

    SEVERE ANEMIA

I had a gastric bypass about 6 years old. Fast forward to today. I was recently hospitalized with severe anemia (hemoglobin 5.2). I had to have emergency blood transfusions. I'm still receiving weekly IV-iron infusions (8 weeks). I am also deficient in several nutrients despite taking my bariatric vitamins. My bariatric surgeon figured out the reason for the anemia. Two ulcers detected by an EGD (upper scope). I was slowly bleeding out. At one point, my family thought I was falling asleep... when I was really passing out. Anemia hurts. Your whole body aches. Recovery is slow... the fatigue is unreal but I'll get there.

    Food Before and After Photos

I’m not sure about in AU, but in US medical files sometimes still say history of obesity/Bariatric surgery so that bypasses a lot of issues when trying to explain why you need help losing regain or maintaining weight. Can others please chime in if they have any information about this? But either way if you can swing it, they are effective.
