  1. The biggest misunderstanding is you don’t need 64oz of “water”, you need 64oz of fluid. Fluid includes full liquids too like jello, broth, sugar free pudding, water, protein shakes, drinkable yogurt (yogurt with milk added), etc. As for the protein if you add two scoops of Genepro to a 16.9 oz water bottle that’s 60 grams in itself. Sip that bottle throughout the day and you’ll get 60 grams from that & then get your extra 20+ protein from foods like eggs, beans, ricotta, yogurt, meats, etc. Hope this helps!
  2. Try using Genepro. It’s the unflavored protein powder and can be added to anything. I add it to my protein shake but don’t just add the powder. First dissolve the powder in a small amount of room temp water then add to your protein shake. 1 scoop is 30 grams. I’ve been using 2 scoops plus the protein from the shake helps get your protein intake up there. Im noticing many surgeons give different instructions for the post op diet. I did days 1-3 on clear liquids, now I’m on full liquids (pudding, drinkable yogurt, jello, water, sugar free ice pops, broth, etc) , however I snuck in some ricotta with some drained picante sauce on day 7 post op and I handled it pretty well. My tummy felt different but so far nothing has made me sick. I’m so ready for real food like egg salad and an English muffin and I haven’t even technically hit purée phase. My purée phase allows smashed up chicken but 7 days later (day 21) I can go to soft foods. The ricotta cheese w/picante helped me to feel satisfied, not just full, which was a treat.
  3. I changed to Syntrax unflavored protein powder. Very slight smell in the container, but almost imperceptible in oatmeal. I won’t be buying Genepro again after I finish what’s left.
  4. True, tastes change after surgery. I used Genepro and added it to a bit of Crystal Light. Sweets were gross at first. Bone broth helped. If it makes you feel better for the time being, I couldn’t keep much down for weeks (vomiting), including protein, but I made it through. So if you are in contact with your surgeon, a temporary delay in protein is doable till you make it to soft foods. GL!
  5. Been using genepro for years, you can't put it in either extreme cold or hot. For example, after I add some almond milk to my coffee, it mixes perfectly. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  6. There are many brands of protein shakes and powders and each of them offer many flavors. Just do a google search to see what is out there. The prices varies from reasonable to ridiculously expensive, so shop around. Many can be found at Walmart or ordered online from the manufacturers or Amazon. My clinic recommends these brands (but I've tried many others): Premier Protein Ensure Max Equate High Performance Atkins Plus Musle Milke Genuine, Muscle Milk Light Boost Max Fair Life Core Power There are even high protein soup powders from ProtiDiet and Bariatric Advantage, and others. The variety is vast. Some you will like, some you won't. If you don't like something today, try it again in a week. You can also make your own high protein shakes. There are lots of recipes online, using unflavored whey protein powder mixed with milk or water, like GenePro I prefer plant-based unflavored powder, Like Orgain or Pure Protein. You can add protein powder to just about any liquid, even your coffee or tea or bullion.
  7. Just got around to trying the new Genepro gen 3. Not for me! I tried to hide it in my some sugar-free oatmeal and it clumped so bad I tossed it after just taking a few bites. Terrible!

    3 Meals vs. 6 "Meals"

You can add unflavored protein powder (such as Orgain or Genepro) to your food or drinks. You can also get protein water or Isopure protein mix to add to water. Your doctor's arbitrary stance on protein shakes may not be in your best interest. Talk to the dietitian. It's her job to find solutions for your food issues.

    Unflavored Protein Powder?

Genepro is great. I've been using it since pre-op.
  11. I could use some help figuring out how to proceed with the all-important protein! What do you all use? I don’t like anything with flavor, so I’m just comparing unflavored powders. 1) Genepro— been using for months successfully, but their product (or labeling?) changed so it might be time to change. Maybe I’ve overestimated how much protein I got if they mislabeled?? 2) Tried Isopure and BiPro Bold (both yuck) 3) Considering Unjury Unflavored—does anyone use this? Taste, smell, texture? 24g scoop, 21g protein at $1.60 per serving. 4) New Genepro (3rd generation) is lower on protein. Calculated to compare to Unjury, a 22g scoop is 22g protein at $2.66 per serving. 5) Someone posted about Vital Proteins, but it contains a lot more sodium than I’d like. 6) Am I missing any other options? Thanks!
  12. Now that the new Genepro changed their product, I am looking for a new brand. I tried BiPro Bold and Isopure, both unflavored. Both tasted and smelled like mold and had to be discarded. Does anyone use a protein powder that is unflavored, and truly tastes and smells like nothing?

  14. I read something about that before I first purchased it. When I checked in with my nutritionist and surgeon, they okayed Genepro. Is this lawsuit more recent, in the last few months? Trying to figure out how to proceed with protein powder. I tried a few others (unflavored) and they smelled and tasted like mold. Discarded them. (Edit: Includes Isopure Unflavored, and BiPro Boldly Bare Unflavored). Does anyone have an unflavored protein powder that smells and tastes like nothing, truly?
  15. Genepro lost a lawsuit over misleading labeling regarding the protein content. It never had 30 grams of protein in 7 grams of product. The "new" Genepro is the same product without the falsification.

    Genepro - 3rd generation?

Following. I just drug out what's left of my old bag of unflavored Genepro in hopes of upping my protein to break my month long stall. I also went onto their website because I may need to purchase more and also noticed the new stuff. Curious if anyone has tried it.
  17. Has anyone tried the new GENEPRO, 3rd generation, sold in the orange canister? I was disappointed the old one (sold in white bags) is gone, as it was the only unflavored Protein Powder I couldn’t taste nor smell. Others make me nauseous. I read bad reviews of the new formula on Amazonso wanted to see if anyone here has experience with it. Thanks! Edit: upon reading the fine print, the new version has a larger scoop and only a third of the protein of the old version. Not just bad volume wise (yuck), but also nutritionally and pricewise. Looks like I will need to find the old version or use a different brand from now on.

    Daily Intake

I drink coffee with almond milk and a scoop of Genepro and 2 tsp of Verisol Collagen Bioactive peptides every morning. After that, the rest of my protein comes from food. My protein intake varies but right now 65g/day is working for me.

    Other Protein Alternatives

You should be able to find the protein water in stores. Also, The unflavored protein powder such as genepro mixes in pudding and soups and stuff depending on what you are allowed to have
  21. I can officially say that she is BETTER! The cramping faded slowly, as did the radiating shoulder pain. She is now 2 weeks post op and already on soft foods (per her surgeon’s rules). She had a breakfast burrito this morning and is stoked to be eating “real food” again. I am meal prepping for her and myself and she is already down 22lbs. She feels great, we went on a short trip on Sat and she put in 15,000 steps. She is killing it! I will say, she still gets pain if she eats too fast, she forgets and is quickly reminded to SLOW DOWN! She is learning why it feels like to be full. We think it is crazy that she is able to eat so well now… we weigh everything and all of her meals are 4oz total and she does not drink anything 3.0 mins before or after meals. Low fat, no sugar and she is doing awesome. She is able to get down 60-80grams of protein and 4-5 bottles of water (with GENEPRO protein powder in 2 or 3) with no issues. God is good! Thanks all for the kind words.
  22. Chicken bone broth with spices added. I actually drank it as my main fluid as it has 9 protein a serving. When I wanted it as a meal I would add GenePro protein in. Right now my nutritionist wants me to drink less bone broth and more water.
  23. Hi all! I’m about 6 weeks until surgery and I’m trying to pre-plan Protein sources, maybe even meal prep to freeze. I have tried using GENEPRO. Bought some injury today to try. Just wondering what you all would recommend to get to have for my post op period? Also wondering about if anyone did meal prep to freeze for afterwards? Just can’t think of what might be good to buy or prep and freeze ahead of time. Thanks!
  24. Fruit juice is a no-no for ever more. It is liquid sugar. Use whole fruit and berries in your protein shakes. Whole fruits and berries contain fiber which helps metabolize carbohydrates. Using them eliminates the need for sugar and sugar substitutes. Once you are weaned off sugar and sugar substitutes, fruit will taste remarkably sweet! There are recipes for home-made protein drinks online and in bariatric cookbooks. Here is one from The Bariatric Diet Guide and Cookbook, called "The Elvis": It makes 12 oz. You will only be able to drink about 1 oz at a time at first. If you don't drink it all in one day, you can save it for the next. I like variety, so I would switch it with other flavors. 12 oz contains 31g protein, but you can add unflavored protein powder. One scoop of Genepro unflavored protein powder would add 30 g protein. 1/2 C plain Greek no-fat yogurt 1 large ripe banana 1/2 C ice 1 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 C natural creamy peanut butter 1 small handful baby spinach Optional: 1 scoop unflavored protein powder In a high-speed blender, combine all ingredients. Blend for 2 to 5 minutes until smooth) NOTE: Be sure to use an all-natural peanut butter that contains only Peanuts and salt in the ingredients. The High Protein Bariatric Cookbook says: "The basics of a protein shake include about 1 cup plain nonfat Greek yogurt, or 1 cup milk mixed with 1 tablespoon protein powder and either 1/2 cup frozen fruit or 1 tablespoon nut butter. Then for flavor ad about 1 teaspoon of extract, cocoa powder, and/or flavored sugar-free syrup or low- to no-calorie sweetener. ...If you make your own protein shakes, the flavor profiles are limitless, and you will know the ingredients going into them. Then, when you have symptoms, it will e easier to identify what the possible cause may be. However, there may be times when a prepackaged protein shake will be more convenient, so do what works for you and hooks you stuck ti tier nutrition goals." The Lifebridge Health website contains about 30 protein shake recipes. Google "make bariatric protein shakes" to find many more recipes. Your protein shakes count toward your daily fluid intake. During the first few weeks of recovery fluid intake is your most important priority. Consume protein as you can. "You MUST get your fluids in. You SHOULD meet your protein goals. If you CAN, take your vitamins." Matthew Weiner, MD, The Bariatric Diet Guide and Cookbook.
  25. If you READ the postings properly then would know that your own member TOMO stated that the UCLA med center recommends GENEPRO to ALL their bariatric patients and they also posted the link to UCLA backing their claim! I didnt state that fact...TOMO did. Again, If you READ the postings then you would know that i have never used GENEPRO protein nor do i know anybody affiliated with the company, but i do know two people that have used this product with with great success and have read about dozens more on this very website. My initial posting was about all the false garbage and plain false statements being made about the product. I did read up on the company and the entire lawsuit and the courts findings as well so i do know what true and whats not. Again, If you read the postings you would know i dont bully but i wont BE bullied either and the truth hurts sometimes! Im taking care of business and im helping people all the time to get healthy and fit with zero kick back to me other then Im always happy to see people achieve happiness in their lives and being PHYSICALLY FIT always, always helps people to be happy! Piss and moan all you want...insult all you want and tell us all about how you know everything about everything when it comes to nutrition and health because YOU HAVE BEEN A NURSE FOR 20 YEARS, yet you have your own health issues? You should slow down your negativity yourself and go for a walk to work off some of that...negativity. Soon to be fit??? Your are a nurse so you of all people should know that when it comes to getting fit, waiting around for magic beans wont do you any good at all...get after it and put the work in. Hope all goes well for you and i hope you are able to get rid of all that... negative and hostile anxiety. As far as trolling goes...you are the one spouting nonsense and misinformation, not me. God Bless!
