12/16/08 2nd Christmas Miracle!
Band_Groupie commented on Band_Groupie's blog entry in The Sweet Spot
My prayers were answered! My youngest, DS has two minor procedures being done tomorrow at Children's Hospital (nothing serious). The prep today involves no eating, laxatives, etc. TMI. It's 11am and he's "starving" already (13 yr. old going through a growth spurt needs hourly food). The hospital doesn't give you the time of the procedure until the day before. So, I've been saying prayers that he would have a morning procedure...another 1/2 day of no food would not be pretty. The OR nurse just called and he's the first one scheduled tomorrow! 6:45am check-in...yay! A tiny miracle...but one all the same...he and I were doing the happy dance around the kitchen! I'm a little nervous:unsure: about the general anesthetic he's getting for the first time, hour and a half under in the OR...sounds like forever to me (he's got asthma and so many allergies)...please send prayers! We're having "jammie day" and playing games...distractions. I'm off to play (Wii)... -

Hello Shamrocks! I keep meaning to start this thread, then forget about it when I am online. I figured it would be nice to have a thread that is for all our embarssing questions and/or comments. Funny part is that right now I don't have one, but I wanted to start the thread before I forgot.

Little Embarrassed And Tmi... Painfully Constipated?
Sarah72 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Warning! Don't want to squick anyone out, I'm going to get graphic here! I was banded on 7/25 and incision-wise feeling pretty well, but Friday-Sunday had severe bubbles in my digestive track EVERY time I ate something and it hurt! Even when I drank Water So, not-so-smart me shied away from it all and drank very little of anything. Saturday, I had severe diarrhea so I stopped the colace. Yesterday... well, now I'm constipated-sorta. I have watery diarrhea, but I feel like I'm impacted because it feels like something is stuck. It hurts to even urinate because of the pressure. Anyone experience this? I've never had issues with constipation so this is a new one for me. Yesterday I started taking the colace again and have added some senna today. I also used a glycerine suppository. Things have "moved" a bit, but still feeling a lot of pressure and having the watery bowel movements around whatever is feeling stuck. Was pretty worthless yesterday and today seems to be turning into the same type of day. I am forcing liquids! Drank 10 cups yesterday and have had about 5 8-oz glasses of water today. I"m hoping by upping the water intake as well as the colace and the senna I can get things moving again. I have my follow-up on Thursday and do plan on talking to my surgeon if I'm still having these issues, but would like to resolve it before then. -
Sept 11th Sleever- weight kind of steady
montiep replied to julianaw85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am Sept 10th. I am on the mushie food. Sick of refried Beans, but only have a few more days before real food. I have had no complications either. Only problem is constipation, taking stool softeners and Miralax. Not working. Only brown Water. TMI, sorry. Otherwise, its all good. -
I just had the most painful (I have never given birth naturally) experience with constipation ever! I had to call my mom to come over, shes a nurse too. This was like an hour long ordeal of pain, panic, anxiety, more pain. Drink people drink!!! Sorry for the tmi!

Hi, females. I am 11 weeks post-op. My sex drive is nonexistent. I have none. It is starting to annoy my bf. Also, when I do the deed, I am in sooooo much pain because I am as dry as a bone. Anyone else experience this? In my 5 years of being sexually active, I have never had pain. Thanks!!

Let's talk...Pre-op diet & your BM's 0.o
Megall9 replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Mine changed. I'm still pre op, but had to do a trial 2 week liquid diet to "work any kinks out" before meeting my surgeon to see what I liked and if I could handle it. I was in the same boat as you with issues going, and I was worried. I just made sure to drink more and more Water. At about day 12/13 everything changed and I had no issues anymore, and everything was soft. sorry for the TMI, but I hope it gets easier for you as well. -
Thanks for the well wishes. I'm feeling much better today and ate real food. I was scared I'd be too swollen to eat but I guess having two days on Clear liquids did the trick. I did get some nasty trapped gas (TMI, I know, but this is a stomach flu thread) so I took some Gas X and that "went away" if you get my drift. The suppository the Dr. perscribed is called "Tigan (generic form)". Kimberly- I sure would suggest calling your doctor and getting a perscription just in case, especially when you KNOW you've been exposed. Once again, thanks everyone! Now go get your suppositories!!! Hee hee... Megan

I'm almost 3 months postop, not at restriction, 3rd fill is next week. I've been feeling fatigued and some dizziness when standing for a few weeks now. My doc ordered every blood test out there and everything came back fine. I don't think my symptoms are as severe as yours but they are telling me to drink more water too. The quote I got was, "not enough water makes you feel like a wet dishrag". Agreed. Today I peed like every other hour and it's very pale (TMI sorry) whereas before this week I peed a few times a day and it was amber. Does this sound like you? I've never had hydration issues before, it's frustrating.

Colonoscopy next week .... oh joy ....
Dawnakers replied to ChristyAZ's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had mine and it was a breeze ... yes the prep sucked... but on a side note they did remove three benign polyps. TMI? Probably - but we are talking colonoscopies here... :-) -
I had my first BM today after surgery which was on Monday, 09/16. I am on an all liquid diet for 7-14 days, so I have diarrhea (TMI, I know). However, I just want to know if this is normal. I thought I wouldn't have a BM for 5-7 days, so I am just a bit early. I feel like I have been doing everything correctly. Vitamins, liquids, walking, passing gas, but no Protein for these first two weeks. My doctor just wants me to stay hydrated and to heal. Thank you for any advise from those that have been through this stage.

Nsv Ho Roundup!
Sassygirl06 replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Haha, I love this one.....I have a few that are really good ones but I will warn you that one in perticular is TMI and might offend some of you.... so dont read it if you think it might offend you 1.) the small towel fitting all the way around me. 2.) getting a honk and a whistle while walking down the street. 3.) having to tell the lady at the dressing room....can you get me the next size down. this one is to big. 4.) (this is the TMI one) my hubby going down there (you know the spot) for the first time in 16 years. 5.) accidentally grabbing the medium dress instead of the ex large one.....getting upset when I tried it on and it was just a little tight...thinking to myself WTF ex large didnt fit? (FYI I bought the dress anyways cause I loved it and knew it would fit eventually) got it home and was hanging it up when I realized the tag said medium instead of ex large! hehe...and BTW... it fits me now! DOING THE HAPPY DANCE!!! OH YAH! -
Can someone tell me about the drain?
NJMOMof2 replied to Melissal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a drain and my doctor said he wouldn't do the surgery without it. If you have a leak or an infection, it will show in the drain before you even had symptoms. My drain was a tube hanging out of the right night of my stomach and I had to empty it twice a day. The Fluid looks like kool aid (sorry TMI). It only fills a little bit and isn't too bad. My doctor removed it after 10 days. They remove it in the office and the hole literally closes on it's own. I was amazed it didn't need a stitch. The drain is the pain the the butt. It tends to pull and tugs. sleeping is difficult. BUT the good thing about the drain, other than peace of mind with infection, etc is that I spent so much of my time hating the drain, I got through 10 days of Clear liquids fairly easily. So, in the end ....it was a good distraction! LOL. The good news is that all this inconvenient stuff is TEMPORARY. By 3 weeks post op I was feeling Good and by 4 weeks, I was great! I even went sledding!! Good Luck. -
No problem. I started taking my Vitamins in June. I take Natures Bounty hair, skin and nails. On the bottle is says take two capsules a day but, I only take one because they give me loose stools (sorry, I know TMI) and, I am running for my life to the bathroom, lol. There is a liquid form of Biotin. I don't know if that would be better for you. They sell them on Amazon.com, I have never checked for them at costco. How are you feeling after your surgery? I hope everything went well.

I think the gas is the problem, maybe TMI but I started to pass gas so I guess that's a good sign! Lol. I'm going to try to walk a lot today, hopefully that helps. I walked a few hours after surgery and I think I over did it, thought for sure I was gonna throw up but I had the nurse give me IV zofran. I made sure I got a script for that for coming home! I have to have some protein shakes today, hope that goes ok. Thanks for the input and good luck!

Tested it out again and it think it is more malabsorption than laxative effect (TMI- texture, smell, etc.)

Yet ANOTHER surgery!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Long post)
paula replied to Rockin' Robyn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Robin, re: reflux I -also- suffer with nighttime reflux every now and then. Ive tried everything. Meds, pillows, drinking a gallon of Water to flush out the pouch, not eating late.... but the one thing that has helped me lately is when I go to bed and get that heaviness feeling (start of reflux), I get up and pb - to completely empty my pouch. When my pouch is completely empty - I dont have any problems with reflux. Even though I *thought* my pouch was empty when I went to bed, Im shocked to see the things that come up with that pb. TMI??? -
It just erased everything I wrote... Here we go again. Stupid Iv getting in the way. I had heartburn yesterday, all day. The staff thought I was getting in too much liquid, if you can even do that. I cut way back on it but it didnt help much. It was not unbearable just came in little waves but passed quickly too. It was tolerable. I got a shower last night and all my bandages off. That felt good. I get my staples out today and they will put some glue on to hold it. The dr. has not been in yet this morning. Last night I got off the morphine pump and took some liquid lortab. It wasnt that bad. I got it down along with nausea meds and toridal in my drip. I slept like a rock! I didnt even get up to Pee! TMI THIS PART----I noticed some itching in the lower regions so I ask if I could have diflucan for a possible yeast infection. they cut it into three littlel peices and I was able to take it, no problem. I breathe with my spirometer but it cranks up the heartburn. I need clear lungs though so I use it as much as i can remember to. I hope all you guys are having a good experience too. I am plannning on listening to my body today instead of the nurse. If I need to sip, I am going to sip! It doesnt really help the heartburn that much anyway. I was not oversipping after all so today... I am planing to sip! I feel pretty dang good for just having this surgery. No nausea or vomiting. A little heartburn and thats about it. Good luck to all of you who are just starting this journey. I hope you have a good experience too! I am going home today! I will post again to tell how its going there. I am open for questions, should anyone want to ask me. Thanks Tammi

hi! i tried to go thru insurance, but was denied and ended up doing self pay. i was out of work 4 days. i stayed 1 night in the hospital where my pain was managed, so I was happy with that. i had some gas pain when i got home, but all was managed by taking my pain meds, walking, and gas x. by day 5 post op, i was feeling pretty good and by day 9-10, i was feeling pretty much back to normal. the 1 thing (maybe TMI??) is that I got a yeast infection after getting home from the hospital due to all the antibiotics they pumped into me for surgery and after....however it wasnt a big deal, as for food, it seems every doctor is different and you will get a plan from your doc and/or nutritionist. good luck!

Right now I am a tad bit irritated. I got banded on Nov.2 and since then I have been losing 2-3 lbs a week and this past week I lost nothing. Maybe TMI but this past week I was in my period. Does this have anything to do with it. I work out 4 times a week for an hr each day. I just need some feedback. I'm kinda worried about not losing weight. Advice please.

Gaining weight sad but starting over. Help advice and support needed.
Zingythingy replied to Zingythingy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Julie if I'm honest the only questions I ask were could I die... And was my tummy going to be flat and not sit on my legs wobble and be sweaty. I didn't look into possible bad outcomes. I was imo young, super fit at the time. I did have very stretched skin. Only about 1 in 10,000 gets my problems. I've had c sections and this was nothing like that. So much worse. By my surgery date I was so thin my overhang was pretty small. I had 3•5kg of skin/fat removed. A relatively small amount. I'd ask about drains I had mine in for over 3 wks. I'd ask about width of scars mine are pretty thick. I had a reaction to the thread they sewed me up with. My body kept rejecting it and new areas opened up. I'd ask worse case scenario outcome. I'd also advise stool softener. Tmi but it was an issue. If your having just a horizontal incision I believe it's even rarer for the wound to dehiss and become necrotic. Wear a good binder or support underwear. I didn't. Be prepared to feel totally zapped. It floored me for 3 months. But I've read a lot of positive outcomes. Look on real self. It's a great site. Lastly good luck. -
Anyone else NOT losing any weight on pre-op diet?
wareagle40 replied to DougNichols's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have lost 9 lbs in 9 days. I bought the Protein shakes from the grocery store whey Protein 32 grams of protein 3 grams of carbs and make my own protein shakes. I have protein for breakfast, apple for snack, Atkins bar with 12 grams of protein for lunch, apple for afternnon snack and fish or chicken with green vegatable for dinner. 3 oz of meat and cup of vegatable. Basically I can eat anything that is on adkins as long as not fatty because it's supposed to be a liver shrinking diet. If hunger in the evening I will eat another bar. or a Protein Drink mixed with Water instead of skim milk. Oh yeah my morning one is mixed with skim milk. I feel great and the weight is falling off. Also, this may be TMI but my bowel movevements only happen every few days but I know on those days I am going to lose weight if you know I mean. I have alwasy suffered from irritable bowel but not on this diet. Hope that helps. Tara
