  1. I had lap band removed 8/10, along with the port of course and he also removed alot of scar tissue from around the area. I went back to work over Labor day weekend and walked alot!!!! I noticed some residual pain on my left side deep, near spleen area (which is where he most likely removed quite a bit of scar tissue from). I have had twinges of pain on that side ever since I worked this weekend. I am beginning to wonder if there is surrounding tissue is inflamed and hitting a nerve there ? Anyone else have similar? I will definitely mention it to my surgeon when I see him again and hopefully he can fix that when he does my revision to bypass this November.

SIPS / SADI-S LOOP DS SUPPORT

Dr. Srikanth is very meticulous. My original sleeve & gall bladder surgery took about 3 hours. More than half of that was the gall bladder as it had some HUGE stones & was adhered to everything around it. My sleeve revision & SA-DS last December took about 7 hours. Again, he had to be very careful doing the part around the duodenum because of adhesions from the previous surgery. I also had a hiatal hernia repair. Just out of curiosity, why do you have your surgery listed as "gastric sleeve" when you had a single-anastomosis duodenal switch? I know the SA-DS/SIPS includes a sleeve, but the more significant component is the switch.

    Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?

I used Dr. Armenta with Renew Bariatrics in Tijuana. He’s a hottie, I ain’t gonna lie. A lot of people use Dr. Green there but he’s so popular that he’s booked up 2-3 months out. Mine was a week ago so can’t comment yet on results. I had the SASI (mini gastric bypass plus sleeve removal) Cost was $5600 but is $5800 now. Make sure you ask tons of questions of the surgeon bc the coordinators don’t know what’s going on. It was all Americans in my cohort. The hospital policy is 30+ bmi but I’m not sure if they would make an exception for a revision. Worst case scenario is you could gain 10 lbs and then have it.

    Gastric Bypass in Tijuana?

Thank you so much for all this great information. That's great that you're an RN.[emoji171] Is your stomach pouch the size of a gastric sleeve? Was this your first surgery or a revision? Do you know why your Dr. chose the mini bypass for you last minute? Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Tomorrow I leave for San Francisco to get my band removed and revised to a VG (Vertical Gastrectomy). I will let you all know how it goes in a week or so when I get back.

    Couch to 5k.....come join me!!

MacMadame, You are not letting me down AT ALL!! I have felt as though I am letting you down since I have gone into my nothing mode. Keep it up! You are doing great!! Georgia, I have never lost any fluid that I know of. I am doing good today. I am a little sore. After this "minor" revision I have 33 staples. My doctor actually did revision on 2 areas instead of one. I am very pleased. I have done very well with my eating today and actually feel a little more focused. I am going to take the rest of the week to recover from my procedure and then I will start my new routine on Monday. My goal will be consistancy. I am actually looking forward to getting going!

YAAYYY! My first Nike+ victory....couldn't have done it without ya Whosya! Renewed....hope the moving is still going well. How is your tummy since the revision??

    rebanding after erosion?

The statistics of something happening to a 2nd band once theres complications from the first are really high. I wouldn't risk it. My band slipped last year and 5 weeks ago I had a sleeve revision. Lost 18 lbs of the 30 I gained over the last year that it was slipped. Only about 26 lbs left to goal. Glad to be rid of my contraption (as my hubby called it!). Took my dr 30 minutes to dig it out of my stomach. It was totally embedded. Good luck to you!

    June 2022 surgery buddies

Good Morning All, I am New here! My name is Mischa I am 5’4.5 and I am from Colorado. Would you believe that it is snowing in our Mountains! Any-who… I had my VSG April 2014, but I fell into depression, Stress. My husband cheated, so I gained my weight back. The exact amount I had before! I had a revision (Gastric Bypass) Nov 9th 2021... SW 260 CW 194 GW 165-170… I am down 65lbs with 25 more to go.
  13. I am a 2x revision patient, starting with LapBand in 2011, followed by VSG in 2019 due to severe Lapband complications, and finally GBP in 2021 after even more complications with the VSG. I have been fighting the good fight for ELEVEN YEARS now, and trust me when I say I was so ready to give up many times during the process, but I am so glad that I never did! I am officially down 152 lbs, and have been maintaining within 3-4 lbs since Feb 2022. I am to the point that I am ready to start looking into plastics. After so many years of fighting to get to where I am, I love the way I look and feel.... when I'm fully dressed. But seeing all the loose skin is a hard mental hit every single time. All the work, tears, pain, determination.... it all feels like it's for nothing when I see the destruction it all left behind. After a lot of research on various options, I am heavily leaning towards the Beltline procedure due to the amount of work that will need to be done. Does anyone have any experience with this? I would love to hear all about it! Pros, cons, horror stories, success stories... I want it all!
  14. Hey I revised to DS 4 weeks ago tomorrow. I was 6 years out from sleeve. Insurance paid as it was treated as a new surgery and so I just had to do a regular qualification. No diets or anything, just whatever the insurance required. I think it took about 6 or 7 weeks to get scheduled from my initial consult. Do you know what procedure you are leaning toward?

    Sleeve to...? Revision seeker

Could someone who has had the DS Loop tell me about this? I had a gastric bypass in 1980, due to regain I want to get a revision. I'm not sure what kind of surgery is possible after so long. I know I have a lot of scar tissue built up. I don't know if anything can be done. If anyone else has had this please let me know thank you in advance. 6 months post plication

That's exactly how I feel! If you're serious (ie willing to comply with Vitamin and Protein requirements) and meet the weight requirements then the Duodenal Switch really does seem to have excellent long term results. There are people over on obesityhelp doing well 10 years out from DS surgery. Bypass proves to be only short term for many as you only malabsorb calories for a couple of years and then your intestines adapt and go back to absorbing 100%, that's why many look to revise to the DS (not easy from bypass though). I'm sure DS surgery for just the intestines has to be possible for GPSers. They have been known to do just the intestinal part for diabetics in Spain, as this surgery has a 99% resolution rate for diabetes (and a significant improvement for the remaining 1%).

    ABC ~ October Chat

Well crap. Went in for my fill and he couldn't access my port. He stuck me about 12 times and still couldn't get it. He said I'm going to be really sore later! Not fun since I didn't even get the fill to make the pain worth it. They are checking with my insurance company to see if they will cover a fill under x-ray (I was self-pay for the surgery) and possibly a port revision. He thinks my port might have flipped, in which case he will give me a local and some light sedation then make a small incision and move the port closer to the skin. He's had some patients with a short area between the rib cage and waist, like me, who've had problems with port access. I'm hoping my insurance will cover it all. We'll do the x-ray fill first to see if it has indeed flipped. Dang it! I just want some freakin' restriction. I feel like I paid all this money for nothing right now.

2 months shy of 2 years. Happy with my weight loss but struggling with GERD and may need a revision. Currently undergoing testing.

    Honeymoon Period

I was revised in February and so far I've lost 28 pounds. I would like to lose another 20-25. The weight, though not flying off, is pretty steady at coming off in ounces. I stall every now and again but it lasts maybe a week. I initially didn't like the RNY but I really appreciate it now. I definitely have restriction and it is very easy to not go overboard otherwise I'll be in agony and I'm against that! I am in a caloric deficit for sure but I'm wondering if my body will get used to the tiny amount I'm taking in and just stop losing.

    Honeymoon Period

How long ago were you revised ? I lost a total of 25lbs and I thought the RNY was easier and I am able to maintain my weight without a lot of effort. I hope you find this to be true for you too !!!

    Disgusted

Sleeves don't stretch though, they aren't really that elastic, I know because I can still eat/drink too fast and feel the pain. So many doctors will tell you that. Sleeves are really not that flexible, I know I live with one. I don't even know how to drill it home more than that. It won't stretch if it is done right, that is basically the cornerstone of the surgery. A stretched sleeve is a complication or a failure. It defeats the purpose. The sleeve has 2 major parts that help with weight loss, removing the stretchy part of the stomach reducing portions and creating restriction and also removing the stretchy part of the stomach removes ghrelin the hunger hormone. The part we are left with is more muscular than pouchy or stretchy. The last link you posted is about a full regular stomach (did you even read it, or look at the picture? It is written by an English major for a BroScience website). A full regular stomach will stretch because the whole stomach is stretchy. The stretch part of the stomach is removed with the sleeve. It is not with RNY or the Band. Most WLS information lumps all these surgeries together. It really does not seem like you understand how the sleeve works or what the surgery involves. It looks like you are still pre-op, if you are going to have the sleeve, you should do more research so you can understand how it works. If you have a sleeve you won't stretch it, you risk other complication like ruining your esophagus creating a pouch at the top of it that food is getting stuck in. This happens because a sleeve doesn't stretch. Like @BigViffer said, you can damage the valve at the bottom of your stomach and make it open fast but a sleeve does not stretch. Many sleevers confuse healing with stretching. The restriction you have at the beginning is not the restriction you will have forever. That is because it is not true restriction it is swelling. It takes a long time for internal swelling to go down and to be fully healed, 6 months at least, and this even applies to other things like a lot of plastic surgery. My restriction at 21 months is the same as 12 months. If I don't eat for a day or two my sleeve can get tight as a drum, or it can just randomly be tight. Most people complaining about stretched sleeves are eating sliders not dense protein. If they ever listen to advice and eat dense protein, of they discover they have restriction again. Finally the sleeve wasn't covered by insurance just a few years ago in the US and a lot of people with complications now went out of the country to have their surgery done. They have complications from bad sleeves and are having revisions in the US now because WLS is covered by insurance more than it used to be and also everyone is currently is required to have insurance in the US. A correctly formed sleeve will not stretch. A RNY pouch will stretch, the pouch created by the band will stretch and bands can slip. A properly made sleeve will not stretch. Healing is not stretching. Eating sliders is not stretching.
  24. I am a Band to Bypass revision. My Surgeon advised against Band to Sleeve due to the increased potential for staple line issues due to the scaring caused by the band. There were others surgeons in her office that would do it, but she won't do them. I trusted her inputs and went with the bypass. And yes, logically you will lose weight at a slower pace, simply because you are already used to the restriction. Now, that's not to say it's not going to be amazing or "slow" by any means. But you have the potential to not lose as quickly. Going from no restriction and no malabsorption to both is clearly going to be more of an impact than going from some restriction and just adding malabsorption. But, either way, it's still worth it. My band was not causing issues, but it took them WAY longer to get it out than it should have because it was totally encapsulated in scar tissue. Now, revision to sleeve, you are not going to get any of the malabsorption, just a different type of restriction. From what I read when I was researching Band to Sleeve, it can be rather slow. Whatever you chose, Good Luck!

    Any January 2018 Sleevers?

ME TOO!!! I just got my date today!! I am SOOOO excited!! My pre-op tests are on 1/16. Now I just have to hope that insurance approves it! January 29th can't come soon enough! ETA: I'm being revised from band to sleeve. I'm hoping he can do it all in one surgery, but he warned me that it may have to be done in two parts, depending upon how nasty things are in there (scar tissue and such).
