I have been really trying but I hate meat, in all forms.
MakingChanges74 replied to TooneyNinosMom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you worried about you want to like meat again or are you concerned about getting enough protein? If it is the later, I can reassure you that there are plenty of non-meat protein options. I haven't eaten meat in 26 years. Since being post-op, I haven't had any issues getting in protein. Yogurt, protein shakes, cottage cheese, tofu, soy meat alternatives, nuts and seeds. There are plenty of options. I guess if you are upset that you don't like meat and wait to again, just be patient and keep trying. Your tastes will continue to change and perhaps your love of meat will return. -
Yeah I'm close to 5 weeks out and am learning I need to take protein drink or powder EVERYWHERE in case I suddenly get shaky and need protein. I should invest in a little cooler so I can take Greek yogurt or other options. You won't need carbs when you are out and about. Not for the first months. Save those for at home.

I'm thinking cottage cheese, yogurt, protein shakes, etc.

Wendy's chili was not on my plan, nor were mashed potatoes. On my plan, my travel foods during the puree foods stage were cottage cheese, chicken salad, and sugar free jello. If your plan allows yogurt, that is a good option to pack too.

Can't keep Rx meds down!

Try taking your meds in a tablespoon of yogurt instead of water. That worked great for me in the beginning. -
Weight gain before weigh in prior to surgery
Ready4theday replied to Teetee82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I actually went in for my pre-op appt with my surgeon today (surgery scheduled for 8/24) and I was up 5.6 lbs from my final weigh in with the nutritionist (7/31)! That's despite having been on a liquid diet for the past 11 days! I have cheated but only with yogurt a couple times and a bite of macaroni salad once. Really, I can't believe it. Anyway, they thought insurance (CIGNA) may not cover due to the gain, but they called and got approval. I was panicking for a minute there! But it's my own fault, really. I shot myself in the foot because I went on vacation the first week of Aug. and ate everything I wanted because I thought my final weigh in was over! I gained about 7 lbs between that week and when I had to start my liquid diet. Just thankful that I'm still able to have surgery. I hope it works out for you! HW: 281 CW: 274 SW: TBD 8/24/17 -
I had a vanilla pure protein shake this morning for breakfast. for lunch I had a 2 ounce grilled chicken tender (leftover) that I sliced up with 1 ounce of shredded mozzarella cheese on half a Josephs pita pocket (just discovered these! 30 cal for half a pita and 3.5 g protein!) I had small gala apple and some rice crackers for snacks - should not have had the rice crackers - I took a short nap and woke up hungry and they were handy... they were 72 cal, 1 g protein and 14 g carbs - really shouldn't have eaten them. Not at all sure what I'll have for dinner. Right now I feel gross from the crackers - may just have a yogurt or some deli turkey and cheese.

Struggling in Soft/Mushy Stage
Kasparkles replied to kej2u's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made some delicious low-carb broccoli beef in the slow cooker. Used light sodium soy sauce, and Splenda where it called for a bit of sugar. I cooked it extra long so the beef is just in tiny shreds, also allowed the broccoli to get really soft. I'm dying for crunch, but this has been a great meal to go to. I also made a curry chicken salad using rotisserie chicken and Greek yogurt in place of mayo. The curry seasoning helped mix things up for me. Try searching Pinterest for bariatric recipes--there are a ton of ideas! Good luck. -
I would say to follow your doctor's order. Eggs might be fine, but there might be a specific reason why he/she doesn't want you to have them. After all, a liquid diet is a LIQUID diet. I did an all liquid diet for 4 weeks, and I was fine. I think that you will find that if you are consuming protein shakes at least 2-3 times daily, sipping on broths, and snacking on yogurts, popsicles and jello, you won't really get hungry. You will also lose lots of weight before surgery. You should be on day 4 now with 6 days left to go. You can do it.

The whole BFF thing. I was just thinking about that yesterday. Every week I meet with my bosses and co-workers and we eat lunch for our staffing meeting. There are times when I do skip lunch because I just can't possibly eat at that moment so I know what it is like to choose to sit there and watch everyone else eat. My boss brought that up when I talked about this two years ago, about eating together might be hard for me. But maybe I can make it up - sometimes I bring just yogurt just to see if I can handle eating yogurt while they eat their big old burger or whatever it is. Sometimes I have to skip eating because my blood sugar is high so I know if forced to - that I can skip eating with them. BUT YET - it is such a comfort thing to eat with people we are close to. Everything revolves around food - our BFF. Even if we are alone - there is always food. I was never really able to tell if I was an emotional eater or just an OCD eater. When I am happy I eat more when things are bad I don't have an appetite, but they have to be pretty darn bad to get to that point. THe divorce diet is always nice for a little while. lol So, maybe I will have a farewell lunch with my co-workers. Where I get to eat bad with them one more time. Just as a "good bye last meal." Yesterday I ate a quarter of my food and did not drink with my meal during our staffing meeting. Also, yesterday, I got hungry in the late afternoon and I had half of one of those peanut butter pouches. I knew I wanted the rest because it tasted good but I didn't need more than half to satisfy me. Little things here and there.

JULY SLEEVERS- How are you doing?
HollyHill replied to dreamingsmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@dreamingsmall - I'm on week 6 and my daily food consist of the following: probiotic shot (Good Belly Shot) early morning - before my workout. Then I drink Water during the workout and for 1 hour after. Breakfast: drinkable yogurt, with protein fruit flavored drink and 8 oz of water Lunch: Meat based soup (like French Onion, or Chicken and Vegetable) or Chicken Taco meat, cheese, sour cream, salsa all about 1/2 cup. Eat Slowly take a min between bites Dinner: Meatloaf with potatoes and steamed veg's or soft grilled pork with veg. I drink about 32 oz of water in between eating. I drink water before bed. Most of the water is flavored with protein powders. So I get 60-80 mg I found by eating slower and stopping when full, I eat less, and I drink more! Today I'm in a pair of pants I haven't worn in 2 years! I know it's working by the clothes not the scale. Hope that helps. -
9 Months out With Severe Constipation
rainyann replied to mylighthouse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You can keep the cost of miralax down by buying the generic which has the same ingredients but is less expensive. I also used miralax (generic) but I found it causes too much gas for me but it dos work. I add Fiberone Cereal in my Greek yogurt every morning. I also have a cup of Smooth Move tea which works for me and tastes good. I buy it in bulk from Amazon. If you want to try it first you might be able to find it at your grocery store, mine has it. If one cup doesn't work have a second cup in the evening. Good luck, I have had chronic constipation all my life which did not change after the surgery... -
Yes, yogurt is fine during the pre-op diet since it's considered a pudding-thick liquid. However, the yogurt needs to have less than 10 grams of sugar or else the liver won't shrink.
-
If I'm not mistaken you can have yogurt too cant you? I have bariatric advantage and make my own shakes. I'm not even at the pre op yet. I'm in the pre approval stage with insurance. But I love the shakes. Down 6 pounds so far... but an egg, I agree is ok. NO FAST FOOD. Lol good look you CAN DO IT!!

3 weeks post-op Need food recommendations
Seamehyde posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had surgery August 1, all went well and surgeon fixed a small hiatal hernia at same time. I've had no real pain and for that, I am very thankful. I am still extremely week! One week out I saw PCP and tests showed I was anemic(no surprise) and I had H-pylori-stomach infection. Until then I was able to get liquids in and close to 90 gr of protein. Put me on 3 meds for two weeks to get rid of h-pylori, Now I can hardly stomach anything. Very difficult to get liquids in. I can eat mashed potatoes and gravy, pimento cheese, and today, cottage cheese. Liquids make me sick but I'm trying to get down.....protein shakes are a no-go! I do put unflavored protein in everything I eat. I can also do pudding, yogurt, jello, and SF popsicles. I am on mushies...but nothing tastes tolerable with this medicine. I started back to college and I am a walking wimp! Brain fog, and so weak I feel like I can fall out at any time. Please suggest something to eat that might help with energy. I am barely getting those chewable vitamins down. Also eating 2 calcium bars a day. I have B-12 patches, and liquid B-12 and taking Vitamin D twice a week. You'd think Iwould be bouncing off the walls, but I'm dragging my butt from one day and on. P.S. I'm 53 years old. I have lost 20lbs as of yesterday. Happy for that but, I need to get back into my life. Thanks for suggestions! Wishing everyone else well! -
I'm so sorry I didn't see this! I hope your procedure went well! I'm now almost a full week post-op. I'm 10 poundsish down from my day of surgery weight. Thankfully having little to no pain, except when I sneeze. I can get up and down on my own now, usually without a support pillow, but sometimes that's needed. Taking zofran as needed along with gas-x to reduce pressure on my tummy. BTW post-op constipation is no joke! Wish I had started trying to address it sooner. Staying hydrated and eating is kind of challenging, I'm getting really bored of protein shakes, plain greek yogurt, and soup. Overall, I'd say all is well and I'm making progress in a good direction!

Getting sleeved on 8/28/27.
Noworneverthin replied to copper's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm basically still on that diet, even though I am 12 days out and allowed mushies. I can only tolerate yogurt, Popsicles, and a little cottage cheese. I pretty much just stick to the shakes and powerade zero Sent from my LGMS550 using BariatricPal mobile app -
FIVE WEEKS POST- OP - IT'S MOVING AGAIN
mama3beartn posted a blog entry in MAMA3BEARTN ---,---'@ WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY
Well the scaled moved some today. yay I'm five weeks post op today and I did my Monday weigh in and it's on 267.0 finally away from the 270. But like I had mentioned before, I was still shrinking because I could tell by my belt. I could tell by my belt. I never got to measure last week. seems my tape measure did a hoodie and can't locate it. But I'm good. Not letting stalls or anything get to me. I feel much better and that is all that matters. My goals are to up my working out. I walk a mile 5 times a day, but would like to see about doing more cardio. I see doc tomorrow for follow up and see what he says. I do still have incision pain on my largest incision. So not sure what I'm allowed to do. I am still trying to get the eating down too. I know I'm not suppose to snack, but to do just three meals a day doesn't get my protein in. I do like five mini meals. All good stuff like diced chicken, yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese stick, protein soups from this site ( so yummy), etc. It works for me. My big excitement beside the eclipse everyone is going bonkers over today here at work is, my husband and I are going to Gatlinburg here in TN in Oct. for my 45th birthday/ 23rd Anniversary. So excited. This will be a different trip since we usually focused a lot of our trips on FOOD and places to eat. I'm not a big shopper so trying to figure out the best way to enjoy a NON - FOOD focused trip. Well hope everyone is doing well in Bariatric Land. Blessing to you all, Later Gaters -

Any August 2017 Sleevers?
niseys4 replied to Jessalene's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello Dandelion 247! I too am 4 day post op & im experiencing simlar feelings as you are. Most of the pain I feel ,from reading what you said, is most likely from where the extra stomach was pulled out. I find that an ice pack for about 5-10 mins helps. But over all my pain has been tolerable enough I dont have to take my Norco but since i wake up at night with a pain that feels like severe hunger pains, i think tonight before bed i will take some. Hopefully i will be able to get a good nights rest! Today I managed to get down a little more than 24 oz of water & 60gs of premier protein drink. Plus I had 4 oz of warm chicken soup. Since I able to eat yogurt & cottagae chesse. I might try those tomorrow. Im glad you mention that being patient & not letting this be a weight loss race. That good advice. I convinced myself to only weigh 1 week at a time. I weighed myself yesterday just out of curiousity & im down 8 lbs since the day of my surgery! I want make sure i slow down some so my skin wont get to flabby before i can get back to the gym! Sent from my SM-T530NU using BariatricPal mobile app -
Cut Calories and Excercise and no weight loss
GBLady41 replied to bwillia08's topic in Fitness & Exercise
As far as the veggie pasta, there is nothing wrong with that. I think some people read your original post as you were eating regular pasta. So, if you want to add that back into your diet, you can. Veggies are good. I also have PCOS and I am no longer taking Metformin. I stopped after I had surgery, and my first blood tests came back normal (my PCOS tests and my Bariatric tests). Because I do have PCOS, I keep my carbs at or below 35 grams a day. I work out 5 days a week, with two of those days being weight training. I also use the elliptical 5 days a week and the recumbent bike 3 days a week. I drink a drinkable yogurt every morning for breakfast (eggs are too heavy for me and the yogurt gives me more protein). I also drink one shake for dinner every day (it works for my lifestyle, so that when I'm out and can't cook something, I still get my protein). I drink at least 150 oz of fluids a day, including 12 servings of water. I get in at least 100 oz of protein a day. My nutritionist told me that when you start exercising more, you need two things: fluids and protein. And....I can only get in about 800 calories, and I'm over 8 months out. I have never stalled once. My point is...everyone is different. You have to find what works for you. One thing I have learned is...it's not about the number of calories. It's about the amount of fuel you are putting in your body. But don't think you have to do what other people do. It's about your life and you lifestyle. So if protein shakes help you in your lifestyle, then do that. Find what works for you and go for it. Don't try to force yourself to eat more calories thinking it will definitely help you. I tried that and it didn't go well. As far as personal trainers and nutritionists, unless they have actually dealt with bariatric patients, they are going to give you the same advice they would give anyone else, and we are not anyone else. Keep discovering. You can do it!! -
Food Post WLS Question?
crocodoxie replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Each doc's office has a different plan. Right now, the phase I'm in, I take a food from column A (protein), and a food from column B (veggie/fruit, etc) Ex: Dinner tonight was one meatball (one ounce), and one ounce of mashed potatoes. Other meals (I follow a chart they gave me)... 2 ounces of cottage cheese/with 2 ounces of unsweetened applesauce....one ounce of tuna/with one ounce of cooked peach/pear....greek yogurt/with etc...you see...one egg/with one ounce mashed potato. There are many variations, but because I trusted my surgeon to open me up and do my surgery, I trust my dietitian with what they recommend. It doesn't make it right or wrong, but is the program I am following. Everybody is different. I had a friend that had her surgery in Paris, and her program was like night and day to what mine is, but it worked for her. I asked about the carbs. My dietitian explained that I'll be eating a rounded diet, and learning things like portion sizes/and understanding each thing can/will be a part of my diet when I follow the recommended guidelines. I'm grateful for that, because I think overall, FOR ME, I'll be more satisfied knowing that food isn't off limits. I will watch for any trigger foods, and I measure or weight to make sure I understand what one ounce is...vs...what i think it is. Best of luck on your journey! -
At your stage I could eat 2-3oz of food depending on what i was eating. Dense protein only 2 oz, but yogurt I could eat 4oz. I weighed my food because I felt it was more accurate. I didn't have any problems eating either. I was a fast healer. I think it is great because you can transition away from shakes faster then those that have more issues eating. Just stick to appropriate portions sizes and the eating plan your doc gave you and you should be fine. I am 3 months post-op and I eat between 900-1100 calories a day and I am losing just fine. I run 2-3 miles 4-5 days a week for exercise.
