    Texarkana Bandsters

Hey y'all, Just checking in from VA. Dr. H took some out of my band right before I came home 3 weeks ago, I can eat anything now. But believe it or not, I've lost 2lbs (and thats with the shoes on!) I'm much more active than I am during school though, I hope I can keep it up. I had a nsv this week...I ran a 7 minute mile on the elliptical! I started out at 14 minute mile in Feb! I also ran a little over 6 miles on Tuesday. It's so amazing that I can move!!!!! :rolleyes2:

    Daily News!

Dino....great NSV with the new pants size. Each one of those moments are so much fun! Allie...try not to drive yourself nuts with the plateaus. We all have them. Do yourself a favor and see if you can ignore the scale for awhile. Your husband is right. Try to calm down about it all. Before you know it your numbers will be going down again. Cathy..........HELLO....about time we hear from you again (just kidding...think we all just missed hearing from you). Sounds like you are setting the world on fire with your new found energy. You go girl! Still plan on stopping somewhere in TN to meet you on our way to FL. Looking forward to it. Now that we booked our trip (cabin in the Ocala Nat. Forest) our son informed me over the weekend that he is looking at a job in Delaware. Will just have to use our Alaska Airline miles to go and see him if he moves there. Hope he is still in Daytona when we get down there but, if not, we still would have gone somewhere warm for a couple of months. Waiting to hear what time my surgery is tomorrow. Just want it behind me. Not looking forward to the few weeks of down time. Have books and movies lines up. I am fairly independent and can't handle not doing my own work. I always say that I am not a perfectionist but very close to being one. Another cross to bear. I will sit and watch the mud getting dragged into the house and cringe. Hope everyone had a good weekend. We are having a beautiful fall. Weather is perfect. Life is good.

Cera - we miss Plain like a cold sore!!! badabing! 1. When have you EVER been stunned into silence? And yes i can talk b/c I'm only quiet when I'm asleep! 2. I really didn't need that visual w/ regard to Plain! That's why I could never date a married - I couldn't hurt that other woman! Did you tell him that he was a BITCH?!? I used to tell my former co-workers that they only had to really worry that I was mad if I started using big words! Susan, m'dear, you definitely earned a great husband; damn!!! Karma just has to get those 2 some day!

It's weigh-in day! All those participating get your updates in today and I'll update the board tomorrow. The following is the correct update format (and, as usual, is my update for the week) C 236 (-71 lbs total, -1.5 this week) I've switched back to weighing in on Wednesdays again. I just couldnt stand weighing on Sunday and posting that weight the following Wednesday.. just knowing that I might have lost more! *laughs* It's so exciting to see everyone's NSVs and Kathy! Your scales finally budged? Yay! I know you have to be seeing the changes in your clothes and body. With all the exercise you're doing and no weight change you must be putting on some nice lean muscle and THAT is awesome! Funny!! EIGHT POUNDS?! AMEN SISTER! :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

    Hello everyone, I am New

Hi Tammy, Welcome, and congratulations on doing so well! I agree it is definitely hard sometimes to see a difference in ourselves. But soon you'll start to see some of those NSVs we talk about--your rings will fit differently, a piece of clothing will fall off of you--and you'll realize it really is REAL! Here's to more of the same!!

Thanks everyone! Clothes do not lie. The scale can be discouraging at times, and I've heard so many people say they don't FEEL any different, but we can't deny the way our clothes are fitting - or rather, NOT fitting! DeAnn - I'm so sorry to hear that the gas is bothering you so much. I remember going through that and it really does suck. I also couldn't get down 1/2 cup of any liquid in one sitting for about a week. The swelling will go down soon. Just keep sipping all you can, and move around a lot to help with the gas. Grats on your NSV Kristin! Love y'all!

I had a NSV last night at water aerobics. The size large flotation belt was too big. I had to use a size medium. Yeah!

    Getting Ready for Spring Bootcamp

The clothes thing is a great NSV!!! I bet you look a lot different in those smaller sizes! Way to go!!!!!!!! I'm ready for the new Bootcamp to begin. I've given up the scale for a month but I will report in on everything else. My goal is to be in my 18 jeans by May. When I started I was wearing 26-28 and I'm in some 20's now but mostly 22's. I'm still shopping in my closet until I get down under an 18. As usual, I'm losing inches and keeping the pounds. Bring it on - Spring Boot camp here we come.

    Lap Band Dictionary

Great idea, Lisa! I'm going to make this sticky and when it's perfect we can revise to be a permanent reference. PB - Productive Burp: There are many versions to the PB, but it's basically when slime comes back up often followed by the food you just ate after the food refuses to go down. NSV- Non scale Victory: Something fabulous that happens as a result of weight loss that doesn't have anything to do with numbers, like getting flirted with or picking up something off the floor without falling over. ESOPHAGITIS - Irritation of the esophagus to the point of inflammation. Can be caused or exacerbated by a too-tight band keeping food from passing through the stoma and "stacking up" in the esophagus. STICKY PM - Private Message: If you want to say something privately to another member, just click on their name for an option to send them a private message. ACID REFLUX FILL - Addition of saline to the band's reservoir to tighten it and create a smaller opening from the pouch into the stomach. Usually done for the first time no less than 6 weeks after surgery when stomach has fully healed and the band is firmly seated in place. Several fills may be needed to achieve the desired restriction. UNFILL - Removal of saline from the band's reservoir to loosen it, and create a larger opening from the pouch into the stomach. May be done to relieve symptoms of reflux or ease the passage of food for other reasons.

Aww Heathergurl:clap2: You are doing fantabulous hon. I personally can't wait to see your new do. I love pictures. I love reading success stories, NSV's and your "shampoo knocking" story reminded me that last night as I got out of the shower.......the towel actually wrapped around me now. :heh: It was a normal large towel. Before the weight loss.. I had to use the towel to only cover the front of me b/c it wouldn't completely wrap around. My butt would always be exposed (ewww):speechles The towel is not completely closed.. in the front, there's a lil opening still... but it wraps around my waist and chest. God it feels good. **Seeing changes here and there makes the drive even less painful for me**

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

Denise - It's so hard to dress our age  some stuff is too young - some stuff too old but with the weight loss we still want to look cute. I tend to dress really classic traditional - assessorising(sp) I have a nice gold & diamond heart necklace that I were 24/7 and my earrings (3 holes 2 have diamonds and I wear gold hoops in the bottom) and I wear a tennis bracelet & gold rope like bracelet - but here is the non traditional side I have my nose pierced and wear a little diamond and a sun tattoo on my ankle - but I won't wear legging and a long top - i just think it's too young for a 53 yr Cathy I LOVE absolutely LOVE being able to cross my legs - i do it 24/7 now - that was the BEST NSV I'm 5'4 and my pants were 18's - tops 22/24 (hate tight clothes - well that has changed too - I no longer have the rolls of back fat) - the smallest I had in my closet was 14's - now I have 10's 1 pair of 8's and even a 6 (total fluke but they say 6 so i bought them) Truly I am a solid 10 in pants - Large tops - I am very aware of the bra fat...

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot

PJ: I've had grilled steak and pork chops, but they were not too dry. Grilled chicken is often too dry---when I added a bit of salsa, it was ok. Before the salsa (the day before), the grilled chicken got stuck after a few tiny bites. You will probably be ok with grilled meats, as long as you take tiny bites and chew carefully (and it is not too dry). Long: congrats on the NSV! I love it when clothes get to big, don't you? Speaking of stuck, I got stuck with some shrimp scampi that I made. After a few small bites, I felt this pressure in my chest and it was not gonna happen anymore! So, I have leftovers for today. We'll see if it goes down; if not, I'll just toss it. Getting used to just throwing it away is hard for me, but I am learning. Nancy

    I got my surgery date.

Congratulations! Your life will be kind of like that of the Phoenix. You will rise after that date to live a longer, happier and healthier life and be able to do the things you couldn't do and enjoy more NSVs than you can shake a stick at.
  19. NSV or a trick, when we were at the Alamo, I wanted a girl's t-shirt.. and I saw they had 2x, which is good for me. My Las Vegas girl's style shirt is a 2x (from LOVE), and it fits just right.. so I get home, put on the Alamo shirt and it's like a friggin tent on me. Either 2x girls style t-shirt is too big for me now, or they just make them BIG in texas hah. And anyone know what kind of art this thing is I bought at the street festival thing? The tin roof thing.. I have been googling and googling, and no info on them. Another stall had running horses on it I wanted to get for my mom, but didn't want to be carrying 2 around.. I figured I could find them online, but no?!
  20. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MICHELLE---HOPE IT IS A WONDERFUL DAY FOR YOU!!!! ENJOY!!! Good morning--well it was a long night. I just come down from up top, and I still have smoldering hot spots. For now the tree seems "out". A couple of strange spots were evident, so I moved the Water hose to those areas. We just don't have enough pressure going uphill to do a lot of good. We are discussing dropping a few hoses into the ditch and trying to get our own syphon going. We used to flood irrigate the yard that way. But the entire ditch bank is black and charred----not thinking it is going to be easy to get up there---it is a pretty steep incline. Purposely so, I mean there is a large fast running canal/ditch up there, we do not want it to be easy access.....So we put in a headgate and run water to the lower sections---which works great on gravity feed....but not so great for this. Considering, if there continue to be hotspots, calling the fire dept. back out for another spray down. They were here til after midnight, I was up til 3. Everytime I would almost relax to sleep, Rick's alarm would go off, and I of course had to go with him, I didn't want him up there alone!!! Behind our property it butts up against the High School Ag building and farm area, and then BLM land. There is a huge hill behind our house, and kids climb it often. The sports teams run it for building endurance---heck I run it daily in high school! It is commonly referred to as football hill because the football team runs it morning and night. The fire marshall thinks the liklihood is that kids were shooting some sort of bottle rocket or aerial display fireworks off of the big hill, and the sparks ignited in several areas of dry cotton. This time of year in areas around here it looks like it is snowing, the cotton blows so heavy. There are female and male cottonwood trees, and the female trees produce huge hanging pods of cotton---it blows all over and irritates the hell out of my allergies to boot! Well cottonwood trees grow along the ditchbank thick. We removed all the producing trees from our place, but there is cotton everywhere anyway. The cotton blows, and of course gathers along tree bases or fence lines--anything that stops it as it blows, and that is exactly where our fires were-------the entire perimeter of the land, all the trees....it just followed the cotton and went crazy. The entire time we are fighting the fire, and the firemen are busting their butts trying to save things you can hear the pop, pop, pop of fireworks in the distance, at the school. They radio'd for a Police officer to cruise the school area. Nothing else was said though. And I have a neighbor down the road with a 13 year old who is into everything, always in the middle of things, and he was conspicuously absent last night while the neighborhood was running around dealing with this. Us and the neighbors on either side of us got the worst of it. But it is sad, not devastating.....We did lose our shed, nothing left but a black blob! So I will call our insurance agent this morning, and have him come take a look....see what we can do. But at least I am calling him from home! I am going to look on the sign at the fire dept. and see when the next Volunteer Firefighter meeting is, I think they meet each Thursday night. I will make something and take to the meeting, and plan to write a thank you letter in our small local paper. I had an NSV in the middle of it all last night---besides actually being able to run---yep RUN up and down the hillside. They had several hoses into the ditch, and these are firehoses--large fabric hoses. They attach pump to the nozzle, and begin a syphon from the ditch. They had a LOT of areas of fire, and only about 8 volunteers here when it first broke out. The one firefighter ask Rick if he could handle the hose, he said yes and took over the big hose spraying down the shed. When the next one began pumping good, he ask the same thing of Spence (neighbor from across the street---being a good neighbor, I owe him too!), so Spence took a hose. The guy started to leave, and I told him I can use a hose on the front---and he told me he didn't think I was quit big enough to handle it!! LOL Of course it was more likely him thinking "this stupid bimbo is up here in flip flops and shorts!" But that is what I was wearing when it happen. My pedicure from yesterday----a total loss. I actually singed my shirt I was wearing! I had to get those clothes we had on out of the hamper, they stunk so badly of smoke---and I saw the edge frayed and the hem singed......and I melted my flip flops!!! Rick 9 days out of 10 will come in, and change into shorts and sandals from his jeans and steel toed boots. But I had dinner ready, and our plan was to go for a ride, so he didn't change! Oh yeah I had another loss......I went to pull the sprinkler off the roof, and when I tried to grab it I broke 3...count 'em 3 fingernails at one time! I'm supposed to go to lunch with Marie, I think we might order in and hang out here so I can keep watch. Well, I cannot stand myself, off to yet another quick shower, the stench of the smoke is killer! Will keep you posted! Thanks for all the well wishes. Nothing of sentimental value was lost. Lots of hard work destroyed.....but hey we needed something to do, right???? Hugs~ Kat

    August Rush in bandland!

Beachbunny, So glad to read your post this morning. It's two weeks post op for me today and I am the same as I was last week; however, I started on mushies this last week and I think my body is acclimating. It's always disappointing to look at the scale and see nothing, but I figure I not only lost 17 pounds over the last three weeks, I also kept it to the same number for a week! That's a first. Usually when I am done with a diet I sabotage my efforts for a good week or two and put it all back on. So I'm looking for the NSVs this week and pretty happy about maintaining....besides, doesn't that mean next week should be pretty good weight loss!?

126dee...welcome. Wow...I am so far behind on catching up with everyone's posts...so I'll just say "Great job Everyone!" Even if the scale isn't moving,we can still find things to celebrate. For instance, all my rings are spinning around my ring finger. I'm having to wear some on my middle & index fingers. I put on a size 20 skirt this morning...and honestly...I think I could wear an 18 right now! So my point is...whether the "metal monster" is moving or not, look for those NSV's to keep you going....and come back here for honesty and encouragement. We're all in this together!
