    11 days after first fill

Here iit is 11 days since my first fill and i haven't lost anything:thumbdown:. Now I haven't gaoined either so thath is something i guess. Next fill won't be until June due to the high volume of patients the Dr. has to see. I've already called to see if somehow I can get it moved up to at least the date it's supposed to be which would be the 2nd week in may. At this rate I'll still be at this weight until Summer!!! I thought I'd be losing steadily by now. Still feel like I'm on a diet.
  3. I had my lapband placed in Feb 2007, for the past week and a half i have the tight feeling pretty much all day. liquids do go down but they gurgle with each swallow. I am in no pain, and I am not tight, last summer i had some Fluid taken out, and my band has never been constantly too tight. I have started a new job and cant really take time off, unless there is a real emergency to get an adjustment until after August. But I do have an appointment on Aug 15, I have to travel to Chicago to my doctor and am self pay at this time. I guess my question is, should I just make sure I am getting enough liquids in and some food, and wait and see. I have had this before, but never this length of time. Usually it was just a couple of days. Only bad thing is there has been no weight loss.

    Hungry or not?

This was a great discussion topic! Glad I got to read all the feedback. I am 3 weeks post and my swelling has gone down hence my hunger has returned. I am trying to manage and not gain the weight I lost since cleanse. I find myself being able to last the 4 hours in between but can clearly eat more than a cup worth. I have an appointment on the 20th this month. Thinking I need a fill personally. However the head hunger is what I'm beating now.

    Sleeved May 6th

I was sleeved the same day :-) Congrats on your weight loss. I have lost 32lbs since and just moved to soft foods this week. Was a relief as I couldn't stand the protein shakes any longer. Good luck with the rest of the journey :-)

    what documents???

Yep, you are going to have to call them. They can usually send you the part of your plan that has it all spelled out. Even if they don't require a medically supervised diet, they will want to see progress notes from your doctors showing your weight and such perhaps as far back as 5 yrs. Best thing to do is call and get all of their requirements. Good luck!

OMG- My fiance is eating chips and dip

Great post. When I read your line "He is totally supportive but is a stick figure and needs to gain weight" I imagined all the times I've heard "She is totally supportive but is fat and needs to lose weight" Amazing how that can be flipped. French onion is hard to pass up but you have done so wonderful, second fill...you are off to a running start!

    FKN TIRED OF STALLS!!

Im a year and a half out from my surgery and OMG it gets so so hard sometimes. Covid hasn't helped things either since I've been stuck at home around food and our LOVE-HATE relationship 24/7!! Cravings? CHECK! Stress? CHECK! Anxiety? CHECK! Unhealthy food (at least for me) stocked up?? DOUBLE CHECK! I just ordered more protein shakes/snacks to help alleviate some of this because i don't want to punish my husband or kids by taking away their treats. I know i haven't been making smart food choices lately so im just ashamed more than i can even describe. I was going to therapy but since the pandemic began its Tela-Health video appointments and the office is INSANELY backed up.. i refuse to see another dr because of the distance plus i don't like having to explain so many times what my issues are.. I just wanted to vent to my Surgery Siblings because it feels like everyone around me doesn't understand why it is so hard, stressful, and heartbreaking to be stuck around food all the time because EVERYONE in my family is skinny and don't gain weight at all. I look at a candy bar and gain 10 lbs lmao Thanks for letting me vent!! ❤️ ❤️ ❤️

    Pushing through..

I meet with a behavioral psychologist on a regular basis who works with the doctors who ready us for the gastric procedures. Today I meet with him, Dr Peterson, and I was in a bit of funk. I've not been eating well, and I know i feel different. Turns out that I've gained a few pounds, which actually only motivates me more. I almost felt like he was a bit disappointed. I know he wasn't, maybe I was just projecting. All this is, is motivation for me to get back on schedule, back on track, and push through. I'm ready for the surgery. I know that it's the right decision, I just need to stay motivated, and continue to make wise decisions! 3 weeks away!!!

    Breastfeeding Weightloss

Breastfeeding helps to lose weight, not make it stall. If I were you, I'd go see your nutritionist and find out how many calories you should be consuming while breastfeeding to allow you to properly nourish your baby while losing weight.

    Goal Setting

Yes, my surgeon's told me how much I could expect to lose total after surgery and that it was possible to exceed that expected percentage. My surgeon said "you can lose 60% of your excess weight or more" basically. I'm in the "or more" category at the moment. In my experience, they want to give a conservative estimate since not everyone makes it to their expected loss. Also at each post op visit where weight loss was monitored (ie: not just the staple removal appt) they would say if i was on track or exceeding expectations. You can certainly call the office's nurse line and ask approximately what you should be losing per month. And yes, I think 40 pounds down 6 weeks out sounds like fabulous progress--but I'm not your surgeon so I don't reeeally know I didn't reward myself with prizes because that would personally take me down a path of rewarding myself for something I really just needed to do for my health. I do a little cheer every time I meet a goal and maybe get a coffee that week, but my big prize to myself will be a new wardrobe at goal or under goal. So that's expensive enough! I have a history of holding myself to high standards though, so prizes at mini milestones are like "yeah well you should be doing this anyway so keep it up!" ha.

    The Day is rapidly approaching.

:bananalama:Now that the day is coming 11/13/07:clock: I am starting to be a little nervous. I keep thinking about all the good things this can bring me but God knows I am afraid that I may have health issue after wards. The reality is food is a necessity for living, so I can't avoid it or stop doing it. Moderation is all good and I am OK with that but I need to feel that I wont have any issues with the little that I will be eating. I guess I am afraid that I will have all kinds of problems :sick with gas, vomiting, diarrhea etc ...I do not want to have anything that will cause me discomfort. Basically I made this decision because, as I begin to age  ( OK I have aged already...but that is beside the point) I want to go into the later part of my life healthy. I realize that if I keep this weight on eventually I will probably have health issues. I have began my own business changing career paths and I have started almost the second season of living. I really want to be healthy that is my primary focus. I want longevity and I know in order to even think about this I have to lose at least 100 pounds but I am going for the gusto. I am thriving to lose between120-130 pounds. I would love to spend my later years traveling and I have to be in relatively good health to travel to the places that I enjoy going to. Well until my next entry I wish all well and pray that we all achieve that in which we are thriving to obtain.

    Need some info.....

HELLLLLOOOOOOOO!!!!! Hey fellow band members its me again I think this has become an addiction to get on here since everybody has something to say and valuable info. I have a protein shakes which are really good and all that but I want a change. I went to net grocer and order some peach halves in light syrup, wheat thins, rice cakes, slim fast and fruit chillers which is frozen fruit. I work in Iraq so its kinda hard to find the food that I need to make healthy choices which is the reason I ordered what I did. I know that we are supposed to have sugar free what ever but unfortanley all the food that I order is not as such. I just recently started drinking a lot of water. Anyhow I'm getting off subject. I wanted to know if the choices that I made from net grocer okay or does anybody have any food reccomendations and also how much sugar if any is okay to consume. I havent had a fill since I've been banded and I noticed that I am taking in more food which is the reason for so much water to keep me full and to make sure I dont gain anything I lost already. I plan on getting a fill when I go home on vacation in June but I just need some helpful info to see if my choices are bad or okay. Any help you guys got would be great. You guys are a great support system and I really do thank all of yall for being here it makes my struggle that much easier to know I have people I can turn to that know what I'm going through. Thanks again guys!!! LAter, B.
  15. In case anyone has questions about traveling & eating with the band I wanted to simply share my latest trip. 4 weeks after surgery I went to Thailand. I had already progressed to normal food (my doctor however wants us to avoid starches, rice, Pasta, potatoes, cereals, breads - etc for up to 6 months). However, it's Thailand and while there's lots of grilled meats & fish - there is a LOT of rice! Yes, I ate rice. No, I didn't have any problems with it. I did talk to my doctor about the trip - we decided that it would be OK to eat what I could. I would then focus on a "proper diet" when i got back. I packed some Protein shakes & protein snack chews in case i had any trouble with the food (ended up throwing eveything out 1/2 way through the trip to make room for things I purchased instead!) In the 2nd week of the trip (5 weeks post-op) I was able to eat more and more. It was interesting in that it was very inconsistent. Some meals I'd eat a cup or more of food. Others I'd be stuffed after 1 or 2 chicken or pork satays (about 2 ounces). Overall I know I ate too much as I seemed to be full too frequently. I think it's pretty normal that as our stomachs heal we may be able to 'handle' more food than we should. Afterall, it's the band and we have to work on our diet more than with some other WLS. I don't think I lost any weight on the 2 week trip (hard to tell as travel always bloats me & it's now that time of the month). My clothing is definitely looser though. Overall, my energy level was fine the entire time. I have my first fill on Thursday so looking forward to continuing this journey.
  16. I kept reading about My Fitness Pal and thought ok...ok....Well, I finally joined and, If you haven't already, YOU SHOULD!! Not only does it keep you accountable throughout your day, it helps to see what you can do to keep the weight coming off! I had a really strong start being banded on 8/17. Then as predicted the weight just wasn't coming off as easy while I was doing the the same things. I thought this was just the process. I found out by entering my exercise and goals to loose that I wasn't eating enough calories. In less than a week I am already seeing the benefits of this great tool! You can use on your PC as well as an app on your DROID/APPLE device. HOW CONVENIENT!! It is super easy too! Thank You to all who have been promoting this and convincing me My name is leepfrog on there if you want to friend me Good Luck to EVERYONE! We all know this is not an easy road, but together, WE CAN DO IT!!

    Hungry or not?

I actually have the new I-Band=lap band + 1 stitch in stomach. After my first fill I was still hungry all the time. Met someone who had the band 3+ years ago and she mentioned her Dr gave her Phentermine to help with the hunger, and she went to a new dr who was more aggressive with fills. I asked when I went in for my 2nd fill and was told I needed to be patient and no I could not have any appetite suppression medicines. I'm still hungry all the time, and feel discouraged that I only lost 3 lbs on the last visit. It's embarrassing at work to have others hear my stomach growl-but that's what's happening. I've been using Protein shakes (30gr of protein) for breakfast-2.5 oz tuna and 2 oz of avocado for lunch and then by mid afternoon-its growling again! I don't want to start snacking and put weight on. Will the next fill make it so I am not hungry all the time? Should I see another dr to see if I need something more aggressive?
  18. I'm right there with you, go to my seminar on Saturday. I'm fortunate, I've followed up with my insurance already and know that for their part I don't have a lot of hopes to jump through. We shall see, this journey is important though - it takes what it will take. Didn't gain it over night I suppose.
  19. I am in the same boat but a little younger. I chose to get sleeved first just because I am in my late 30's and might get pregnant when I loose the weight. We have been trying for 6 years. If this doesn't help us I am going to start treatments in 2 years.
  20. Anyone else having the issue with family and friends seeing weight coming off, but you can't see it yourself. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

To Band or Not to Band...

I too have waited many years thinking about WLS. I work in healthcare and see so many bypass complications that haunt patients for years. I don't see band patients though (I work in a bariatric hospital). I have the issue that even though I know I'm overweight I don't feel overweight. I'm very active and "see" myself skinnier then I really am. I lost 110 lbs in one year (11 yrs ago) doing Atkins/exercise.....kept it off for 2-3 yrs then it started to creep back. I've gained 60 back total, so not a total loss! I decided on getting banded this past fall, have done all the work for approval (lost 18 lbs too!) and got my surgery date today! April 16th will be here before I know it!! I wish you the best with your band and know that we are taking a great step towards healthier lives!!!
  22. Welcome! I think it may vary by insurance. I know mine (SmartHealth) actually wouldn't approve you as is since your BMI is "too low". They require a BMI of 35 with co-morbidities, or 40 or higher for no-cormobidities. I would recommend calling your insurance company directly to see what all they require. I wasn't required to have any medically-supervised weight loss, but there were several people in my class who had to do 3-6 months. Good luck!
  23. Ok, OK, I know everyone is different, everything depends on one's individual commitment, etc, etc, BUT one of the things I want to do for motivation is to get a couple "dream outfits". I've window shopped a bit and that's fun but I want one hanging on the closet door to keep me motivated...maybe more than one so I can swap them out. Now...what size do I pick? I was banded in April and have lost about 2 lbs a week...so on track for a nice sane weight loss. I'm looking for average size differences from those who have gone before me on this journey. I'm starting at the dreaded 2X; what was your dress size change at 3, 6, 12 months...or whenever you noticed it? I have found it hard to even visualize the way my body will look in the future, which I never expected.

    Deciding on Goal Weight

Hi Bookleen, I'm in a similar situation as you. My BMI is 27.1, and I've hardly lost any weight in the last 4 months. I too discussed w my surgeon and he said the same as Coops just said above, it's not about BMI it's where you feel comfortable. I still want to lose around 10 lbs but I know I have to start working at it again, at the moemnt I eat and drink anything I want, I so excercise quite a lot, I think thats the only reason I haven't put on any weight. I could've written that post myself you know, I need to tidy up my act too and strat losing again before my 1 year anniversary. How far out are you exactly? Good luck, to all of us
  25. Hi Diona and welcome to the board. I started recently myself and must also do the 6month diet for insurance requirements. I have Cigna. Weightloss facility I am using requires a 3 month diet as well and would like you to lose 5% of your weight before they will sign off on a surgery date. good luck, Jim
