    Pre-surgery

Hi! I am doing well, starting to feel like my old self. Just really tired, not sleepy, but just fatigued. Like yesterday I did some minor cleaning and I felt exhausted lol. I am think doctors prefer sleeve because of less complications? I am not sure. But yea, so far I am happy with my revision. I will know the real deal once I start eating food again

    Pre-surgery

I am just speaking for me but I had the sleeve 7 years ago because my surgeon convinced me to get it although I wanted the bypass so I obliged. 6 days ago I had a revision from sleeve to bypass. I developed really bad GERD & experienced regain. And weird enough I had lost mos of my restriction. I could eat a lot of protein and never feel my restriction. My GERD was so bad that I was burping just from taking a sip of water when I first woke up I originally wanted the bypass because it gave me restriction and malabsorption; and I have over 100 lbs to lose. Now I have seen people lose over 100+lbs with the sleeve but it just wasn’t for me. Just discuss your wants/desires with weight loss/health with your doctor and let them help you make a decision. I wish you luck!

    Lap Band to Gastric Bypass

I'm having the lapband to bypass revision next month. I just got approved for surgery today! I'm a little nervous about whether it'll be different than with someone who didnt have a band first.
  4. I had Lap band revision to VSG on 2/26/18. I decided before the procedure that I wouldn’t weigh after. And I haven’t. The only time I’ve weighed was at my postop visit, where I was down 17 lbs. that was early March. Before surgery, I watched a YouTube video that suggested not to weigh and I thought about all the times I was happy - until I weighed. I read all the posts here panicking about a stall. And I decided the scale wasn’t for me. *HATERS STEP OFF NOW. DO NOT POST A REPLY IF YOU THINK THIS IS STUPID, BECAUSE IM NOT SUGGESTING ANYTHING TO ANYONE.* It’s been really peaceful. I’m down 4-5 sizes, I log all of my food, but I have no idea what I weigh and I’m am SOOOOO okay with that. I’ll be weighed when I go for my next doctors visit, I know....but for now, I’m at peace. I know I’m working what works for me and I’ll do it as long as it does.... Just wanted to throw this out there for others to consider....if it’s not for you, more power to you. Do what works for you. I’m doing the “me plan” and I’m happy and healthy and so not stressed out about my weight right now. Taking it a day at a time.... Hope everyone else is working what works for you and at peace with yourself or well on the way...
  5. Mine is June 5th. Why the revision
  6. I just had my revision from sleeve to bypass 5 days ago. My recovery thisngo round was excellent compared to my sleeve. Granted I am new to this so I don’t have much to offer right now in terms of info.
  7. 2012 I had the sleeve and lost 278-190lbs. Well, right out of surgery I had to worst heartburn EVER. Doc treated. About 2 years ago I began to really struggle w reflux at night. Last month we discovered a stricture. Insurance approved bypass. I need to hear from anyone who has had this revision so I will know what to expect.
  8. If you mean a sleeve to RNY, I am post op of this exact revision. the surgery went well but I am still on liquids and haven’t hopped on the scale so I can’t really say how it is now. But I got the revision due to not losing weight, no restriction and GERD
  9. Hi! I am 22 year old and I had my surgery 4.5 years back, after which I lost 35 kgs but I started regaining weight after the end of 2 year. And now I am back to square one meaning thereby I am back to initial weight which was 120kgs. I am thinking of Revision of the sleeve. So I wanted to know if that’s a good option and if anyone of you went through the same procedure then please share your story. Thank You! Cheers!
  10. I am having a revision this summer. I feel like if you've been overweight your whole life, you've probably already tried eating less. If you have a sweet tooth or a binge issue, those would also be good reasons for bypass. Even sticking to the diet, I still couldn't get below 200, so I relaxed the diet. I've gained 50 pounds.
  11. I figured since so many people have revisions from sleeve to RNY, I’d just have RNY to begin with. Higher weight loss and keep more weight off longer, per data.

    Lapband to Gastric Sleeve

Looking to chat with anyone who had revision surgery from lapband to gastric sleeve surgery? I had my band removed two years ago. June 14 is sleeve surgery. Wondering about the difference. With the band I was always getting stuck, couldn’t eat bread or anything doughy. My stomach gurgled on occasion. How will it be with the sleeve? What is the difference?
  13. I just had a revision from sleeve to RNY and I too did not have a bowel prep the night before; just 2 week liquid diet. Truet me when I say, you will be cleared out lol. I had diarrhea multiple times during those 2 weeks. I had regular poop in the beginning and then two liquid poops before surgery date. And besides, we are never fully cleaned out anyhow
  14. Hey all! I'm new to this forum. I'm scheduled for RNY on 6/4....SOOOO EXCITED! I had a lap and placed in 2008 and then replaced in 2009 due to a slip. I lost about 70lbs. Then life started to happen. The insurance I had did want to pay for fills. Luckily I still had some restriction...even going thru 2 more pregnancies. I got new insurance coverage in 2016 and decided to get a fill only to find out my band had slipped again. The Dr did not recommend another band and suggested I have it removed and get a revision if I wanted. YES PLEASE! I'm blessed to awesome insurance. It did not require me to do a 3,6, or 12 month pre-op diet. I did have to do the EGD, psych, and nutritionist visits. I was required by the surgeon to wait 3 months after band removal in early January for my stomach to heal. I wanted to have surgery in late April but was delayed because the office assumed I had to see the Nut more than once and didn't do my due diligence in confirming what my requirements are. Anyhoo...I can't dwell on that. Its just a few weeks. I'm eager to get my health under control (I have hypertension) and look and feel good in my clothes again.

    Any MAY sleevers???

I also had my revision from lapband to sleeve and hernia repair on May 7th. Just got out of hospital yesterday, had dehydration and inflammation complications. Congrats! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. So I had VSG in November of 2014. On June 1st, I'm having it revised to RNY. Prior to surgery I will start my 2 week liquid diet. My question is....I don't have to do a bowel prep or anything. So if they are working on my intestines, what happens if I'm not cleared out? Since having VSG, I have had issues with constipation and I am a little worried about that. Sorry for the TMI. I appreciate any help!
  17. So i am scheduled for 730am to have my lap band revision to gastric bypass, needless to say i am feeling a lot of things right now excited, nervous, anxious the list could go on. I am confident in my surgeon so hoping all goes well.
  18. Hi All - My surgery is July 2018, I am a revision patient converting from a lap band to a sleeve. Please send positive vibes and thoughts that my scar tissue is minimal and I can have the surgery once. I am vegan and I exercise 3-5 times a week. I am mostly anxious about the liquid diet and how I am going to get all the nutrition my body needs. My doctor's administrative team should be sending all my information out to my insurance next week, wish me all the luck!

    Reconsidering bypass

Had mild to sometimes moderate acid reflux before sleeve, which was on 11/14/16. Started having bad probs around Jan of this year, so over a year post sleeve. Five day hospital stay in Feb, endoscopy, scarring and erosions found....was very dehydrated when I went in, was having trouble w/ appetite, swallowing, food getting "stuck" and horrible pain. I have been on Protonix since sleeve...it doesn't help at all anymore. Here I am now, after another endoscopy and barium swallow test, which confirmed a nice sized hiatal hernia and GERD. Been on thin pureed soups for months. Going for scheduling of gastric bypass revision next week. Why has it taken so long to get something done? Well, for me, already have major nerve pain/scar tissue issues and think my surgeon didn't want to do another abdominal surgery (5 in 3 yrs is enough). Everyone is different, but please, if you have acid reflux issues now, SERIOUSLY consider going for the bypass! I was dead against it, now I wish I had done it and not the sleeve.

    Gallbladder removal: warning for others

I am so sorry that you had this happen! I had my sleeve surgery 11/14/16, then started having problems/lots of gallbladder pain almost a year after that. Trips to ER before they finally discovered it was the good old gallbladder. I had probably lost around 100 lbs when it started giving me big probs...had it taken out about 13 months after sleeve surgery. Some people will have issues after rapid weight loss, others will not. It is definitely something that people need to be aware of. Posting/replying to OP because I can relate, but also, hanging out in gastric bypass topic because I will be having a revision soon I hope you feel better real soon and that everything clears up for you quickly. Thanks for sharing.

    Reconsidering bypass

I've never had reflux issues in my life. If I miss one day of my reflux meds post sleeve, it's terrible pain. I am considering getting a revision. I've got a scope scheduled next month. If I could do it all over again, I would have gone straight to bypass.

    Finally a fill!!

Now that have had my fill , and avoided a big problem like band revision I'm totally paranoid when eating. I have been on mushy food yesterday and today and I'm nervous if I'm chewing food good enough so it doesn't form another food pouch. I had a band for years and now I'm a nervous nelly with mushy food and am afraid to eat solid food. Is it even possible to form a food pouch with mushy foods like mashed potatoes or retried beans. Silly question but now I'm totally nervous to eat anything. I guess it's all in my head and I'll get over it over time
  23. I just had my revision from sleeve to RNY yesterday. Surgeon said all went well and I am home. Have no problem with fluids but now just started drinking protein which is ok. I am keeping a log of everything I drink. I am having a lot of back pain. But I know how hard the operating table is and hospital beds suck. And it’s so hard for me to get comfortable here at home. I am In a big arm chair with an ottoman and a heating pad on my back but nothing is helping really. I already know I won’t be able to sleep in my bed so the chair it’ll be. I have Tylenol with code in which is taking the edge off. I am also peeing sooooo much which is annoying but it helps with me walking more I guess lol
  24. TreeMystic, I'm so sorry to hear that you weren't able to get your gastric sleeve done, but at least you have the option of getting it done in 6 weeks. Unfortunately I can't relate exactly to what you are going through, but I think that I have a pretty good understanding. I know what it's like to have revision surgery (lapband to sleeve) because I just had it done on April 4, 2018 after having my band for over 11 years. I know that your experience is a lot to process at the moment , but things are going to get better. Six weeks will be here sooner than you know it. good luck to you.

    Reconsidering bypass

There have been several individuals on this board that had to have a revision from sleeve to gastric bypass because of severe acid reflux (GERD). It is generally recommended that if you have that condition you go with gastric bypass because sleeve will only make the condition worse.
