    When Will I Learn???

Ok, so I was banded on June 17. As soon as my swelling went down and I was feeling "normal" again, I started eating like my old self again. No small bites and racing through meals. Yes, there was some restriction and I could feel when I had enough, but it was usually after I had eaten more food than I probably needed. I had my first fill on August 30. I tried to eat like I had before and guess what? Sliming and nearly stuck on at least four occasions that I can remember. What is wrong with me? I know in my heart of hearts that I want to be successful and lose this weight, but my mind is not getting it! I am hoping that maybe one or two fills will be all I need to get to the sweet spot. I don't want to end up messing up my band, so I have promised myself to behave and chew carefully after very small bites. I guess it's true...it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks!

    Gained Weight!

I appreciate the discussion also. I was banded on April 18th and lost 20 pounds pre op but haven't lost since. Now that I am three weeks out I'm feeling like I can eat a lot more. Trying to be aware of what I am putting in my mouth but I guess I wanted results immediately. My doctor said not to worry about losing weight until your fills start. But it is frustrating.

    Gained Weight!

Hi everyone.... I was banded on 3/22 and lost 15lbs in a few weeks. Since staring back on trying to eat normal I've gained weight. I go for my first fill Wednesday. After reading your comments I feel better. Thanks for posting. Good luck everyone!!!!!
  5. No I am definitely not miscalculating calories. I am as strict as they come with not only my portion sizes but my calories and Protein intake as well. I was banded 9 weeks ago and have lost 21lbs to date. I called my doctor's office yesterday and she told me that I am right on track with my weight loss. She said that the average weight loss is 1 - 2 lbs per week and right now I am above that. I guess I just get anxious and want it all off immediately and I have to realize it is going to take time, just as it did for me to put the weight on. I just didn't know if there was a correlation between fills and weight loss because so many people on here say they didn't "really start seeing the weight fall off" until after 3 or 4 fills. Thank you all for your comments and posts.

    Must be a failure

I have only lost 39 pounds over the year. You are not alone. My doctor told me that it might take 3 to 4 years to take all the weight off. Everyone is different. I do not exercise a lot so that is my biggest downfall. I feel the weight will come off in its on time depending on what i eat or how much exercise i get. Don't beat yourself up. Remember you are 30 pounds down not up.
  7. Hello everyone! I am in the process of doing my 6 month supervised dr visits and was wondering what if anything did you all use to help lose some weight at the beginning or to jump start it. Also, my boys will be 1 and 6 years old when I have my surgery done and I was wondering how long you have to go without lifting things? How did you do that with your children because there are times that it is unavoidable.
  8. I am doing a two week liquid diet pre-op adnd have just finished my first week. I have no real weight loss to show for it. I have been drinking four shakes a day and eating carrots the rest of the time. How much weight did you lose during your pre-op diet? And is it ok not lose anything during the pre-op diet?
  9. Hello. I know there are other threads discussing this topic, but of all that I have read, none apply to my specific concerns. I have 5 children, three of whom are teenage girls. I am considering not telling them for multiple reasons. First, I don't plan on telling family or friends such as parents and grandparents. To tell them and not expect them to "accidentally" bring it up in front of family members could put them (and me) in an awkward position. Then, the most important concern, is body image. I know all the rules, I even follow many of them. I have taught them to understand that they eat to fuel their bodies and that the goal is to be healthy, not seek to obtain the media's idea of "perfect". Because of my own struggles with weight, this has always been of foremost importance to me. I worry about the message I will be sending to my impressionable 17, 16, and 14 year old girls. They do not understand the struggle, they are healthy and young and hopefully have many of the tools they will need to live the rest of their lives that way (my goal anyway). I have a different perspective and story. Of course hiding anything from teenagers is another task all together. So my question is, what are your thoughts on not telling teenage daughters?
  10. Hi...... I am only just over a week post op, I have still not got my appetite back at all... this could be a good thing.. BUT my weight appears to have stopped going down and i think it may be because i'm not eating enough calories.......... has anyone else found this?? I've lost 12lb since surgery but the scales havent moved for the last 3 days... I just want to do well and I get so full from drinking Water I cn go all day without eating.....
  11. Yes it is certainly doable, provided you want to and keep trying do it ! The initial weight loss will propel and motivate you towards your goal.

    Feeling annoyed

My husband has been very supportive of my surgery and weight loss efforts, and I appreciate it. However, he still expects me to cook to foods he likes - which I don't mind, but he is not mindful of the time and energy it takes for me to cook them, and when I make enough to last him a couple days, he eats it all at one time. There are days when I end up cooking 2-3 different dinners to accommodate everyone's wants and needs... If I say anything about him eating so much, he gets an attitude. What do I do???? Rant over........
  13. Has anyone felt like they hate eating after surgery? I am 13 weeks tomarrow and I feel so weak and worn out. I am losing weight very rapidly and feel so weak. Anyone else feel or felt this way. I am going in Thursday to get my tests done so hopefully if something is off he can give me something to help. I will take any advice at all

    My cousin/right-hand & myself

    From the album: Pre-Surgery

Any picture I take beside her, reminds me of how big I have gotten. Sometimes it sad but over the years I have justified my weight gain with "I'm content".

    3 Month Supervised Diet Question

I was told to lose between 12-25 lbs and I lost 30. They really didn't seem to care how much weight I lost.
  16. I haven't had any hair loss and I'm 6 mos out...but you will probably notice that I haven't lost much weight either. I do take extra vitamins and calcium and get lots of protien.
  17. I am one year post op and am gaining weight. Too much evening snacking and love of sweets. Looking for help to break this cycle or turn it into something healthy. Fortunately, I also do like popcorn and apples. I will try to start keeping low carb snacks on hand and less 'diet' candybars!

    What the heck

If you cheat, and go out of ketosis, you refill glycogen stores which can carry 2 molecules of water each. It's possible to gain 2-6lbs overnight after cheating.

    Need to increase calorie intake?!

miangr per your profile - i see you were sleeved June18th your starting weight was 312 you have successfully lost 41 lbs!!!! bringing you to the magic # of 271!!!!! WooHoo WooHoo!!!! party dance party dance Protein bars are yummy, they can have alot of calories, and carbs too on an occassion, having one is terrifice - terrific taste some/many (me) OP try and stay away from Protein Bars cuz they are so good, (kindof like candy bar?? )very addicting some people do adjust their calories when a stall hits - to shake things up a bit "assuming" I need to increase................. hmmmmm - i "assume" LOL you know what happens when you "assume" something??? You make an assssss out of you and me you are only 7 weeks PO discuss with your NUT your situation/concerns she is the only one that OFFICIALLY should direct you to your calorie intake many/most times - you just have to "ride" out a stall some people might change this or that about their daily routine, and the stall breaks but whose to say if these changes helped break the stall or the stall was gonna break on its own coincidentally the same time changes were made???? you are doing great with your weight loss 41 lbs!!!! OMG!!!! keep up the good work kathy congrats
  20. You should not be asking what your doing wrong, you should be telling everyone what your doing right. Like others have said, right after surgery alot of people don't lose. It sometimes takes several fills to start losing regularly. Did your surgeon tell you that the recommended and typical weight loss per week is between 1 and 2lbs? It sounds like you are right on track, if not ahead of the game. Remember, it's not gastric bypass, it is much slower, but you will get to the same place in the end. Be patient. If you are following the band rules, and exercising regularly, your body will follow. Good Luck and Congratulations at your success.
  21. I dropped 26 pounds on mine and most of that was in the first week. My surgion never told me of a specific weight to lose. It is mainly about shrinking your fatty liver. Good luck.

    Really stupid question..

Don't worry about trying to chew yogurt! LOL! Just eat it slowly, savor and enjoy it! Do thoroughly chew any food that one would normally chew! pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274

    Getting the blues

Firstly congratulations on 13lbs weightloss...it really is a great start. Now then, it is hard work until you get to your sweet spot but it can be done...just watch what you eat and exercise more and the weight will move...protein first, then veggies then carbs (if there is room) and never drink with or for 2 hours after meals. Make sure you get in 2lts fluids a day and diet....you can't pack in the high calorie foods...the band will only help reduce the quantities you can eat. Good luck and keep your chin up

    NSV.. Happy Boobs!!!

I found an awesome lingerie shop in Kansas City that sells unusual bra sizes. They cost a small fortune, but it's worth it! About 1 year into my weight loss journey, I went for a real, honest-to-God, bra-fitting! What an eye-opener! About a year after finding this wonderful store, I moved to Colorado and haven't found another specialty store like it - even in Denver. (You don't want to know what comes up when you Google search for "specialty lingerie"). So now, every time we go home to visit family on vacation, I go in and buy a few new bras. I'm sitting here typing this wearing a 34G!!! I don't think I've been in a 34 since I was in junior high - and that was a loooonnnggg time ago! If any of you ever have the chance to have a real bra fitting by a professional, I highly recommend it! It's amazing what a difference it makes! Someday, when I finally reach goal and stay there for at least 6 months, I hope to get a lift (and maybe reduction) at the same time I lose some of the extra skin. But until then - the girls will be comfy in their 34G!
