  2. Hello BariatricPal Friends! It's been close to 4 years since I've posted on here and didn't realize this site was still kicking! Anyway, I'm here to tell you about my story about me and my Lap-Band. I've had my Lap-Band for 2 and a half years before I had revision surgery because mine slipped due to me losing too much weight and my adjustments were very frequent. Before revision surgery, I was down 120lbs. After revision, I haven't gone back to the doctor. The last four years of my life have been a roller coaster. I'm close to my starting weight before starting my journey in 2013. Well after getting married, my daughter being born and fast forward to 2017, I'm back where I started before getting weight loss surgery... Crazy huh? It's not a good feeling by any means that's for sure. I could sit here all night and give a list of excuses. The biggest area of my problems was in my marriage (currently getting divorced). My significant other was against my surgery after my revision and it was a downward spiral from there emotionally, mentally and spiritually among other martial issues that hindered my weight. I got into bad habits again and just felt like my self worth and self esteem was non exist. I picked up all my weight I worked so hard to lose. Worst feeling in the world and feel like my surgery wasn't worth it and that I'm just another lap band patient that picked all their weight back up! Well now going through the motions of a divorce and will be putting it in the past once everything is settled, I've started to get back in the groove of things and I'm getting back to my old self again of taking control and have already seen weight loss and have seen my Lap Band doctor. I'm glad to be back on track and I can't wait to see the what future holds! -I'm a 5 year veteran with plenty of experience with the lap band so if anyone needs advice or wants to ask questions let me know! I used to be very active on this site! -Amine
  3. One of my main issues, since I had the surgery is horrid acid reflux, and even vomiting (the acid) in my sleep. While my weight loss hasn't been great, and I would also like to address that separately, fixing the reflux/vomiting problem is top of my list. I have talked to a few people who had the same problem and said that the bypass had fixed it with no further issues.

    Goal weight

Let me edit. I did not mean to tell folks what their actual goal calculation should be. I just was trying to be supportive of those who cannot get down to BMI of less than 25. My goal certainly is to get down to a BMI of less than 25. My doctors goal is to lose 60-70% of excess weight. I would like to lose 100% of excess weight. I have lost 60 lbs now in less than 4 months, but definitely have at least another 60 to go.
  5. It's been a slow weight lost but I feel great. Down 85 pounds since surgery date. March 27, 2012. 100 pounds all together.... I have hit a major stall. Haven't lost weight.. Help!

    Goal weight

When I first started, my goal was about 185, which was a reasonable expectation based on surgeon's averages. Then, as I started losing, and the weight was just falling off and I saw others achieve a normal BMI, I changed it to 145. Then, as time went on and the weight stopped coming off, no matter what I did, I changed it to 155. I have never actually hit that number, and at three years out it's a lofty goal in the back of my mind. Now my real goal is to maintain my loss. The number on the scale still matters to me, but less than it used to. I am a smallish, normal sized woman, and thanks to plastics, I don't look like I've ever been overweight. That's success beyond my wildest dreams. That's a long answer to say you may have to be flexible.

    Is A Cup Too Much?

Do You track your food on something like myfitnesspal.com? You have done really great losing weight so it might not be a problem for you. And the calories you consume are good. I wouldn't worry about it unless you've started to gain weight. Just relax and enjoy the ride.
  8. I had VSG last month..I feel like im on a low carb diet. I lost more weight pre surgery on low carb high Protein. Yes I eat less and am in the soft food phase but I get really hungry every 3 hours. I have yet to feel full. I measure out 4 oz servings. Mostly protein. I have had no problem with Water intake. I Hope and pray this small stomach helps me maintain the weight loss that I will have. In the past I have always put the weight back on plus some.
  9. I'm just on the 3rd week post op but I'll tell you about the change after the surgery. I have no longer hunger but I know I MUST eat for energy and the amount of food that I can eat is 2 tablespoons. I have sleeved in France so the restriction post-op for diet is a bit different, my doctor said I can eat anything I want but blended. The first two weeks it has to be only Fluid (but I can eat yogurt) then the 3rd week I can start eating pureed food like potato smashed. Oh, yes, but no candies no soda, all sweet stuff. Eat a little at a time (4 times a day) on the fix hour, I'm not hungry but I just eat on the meal time. Eat very small amount and slowly and the most important thing is at least 1 L of Water everyday 20 minutes before and after the meal. After the research I'd done on my own, like you, I asked him about Protein shake and he said, no need, no supplementary diet of any kind is necessary at the moment. He told me to eat only small amount of natural food. Seems like he needs me to get used to my new stomach first and learn that I can live on a very small amount of food Personally I try to eat as much as protein as possible like eggs, purred fish, Greek yogurt with purred fruits, cooked brocoli purred, mainly protein, fruits and vegetable. One time I tried Pasta purred with salmon and I felt sick, so no pasta at the moment. My doctor said I have 3 years post-op to learn to eat right to maintain the weight for life. I guess that at some point the hunger will return, I will be able to eat more than 2 spoons per meal but at least the experience of being obese for 20 years and receiving the second chance should remind me to pick the best choice of food and move my (hopefully smaller) ass to exercise to keep this gift for life. And I know I can do it because during the pre-op I tried the low carb diet to see if I can make it after the surgery (my surgeon never asked me to lose weight before the surgery) and it worked pretty well actually, I wasn't really too strict because I ate small amont of carb only for lunch or Breakfast but not for dinner and I lost 13 lbs in 2 months before the surgery between my first consultation with my surgeon and the date of operation. What's different is I've lost almost 19 lbs in 20 days post-op woo hoo!

Hi everyone Im shannon. I had the lapband done two years ago. Im a nurse and worked in a hospital untill about three months ago (went to home health). while working @ the hospital, there were lots of us who had lapbands.we started doing our own fills. i ended up having too much saline in my port and couldn't swallow my zoloft pill & my morning coffee wouldn't go down. I ended up getting a coworker to take out 1.5cc of saline about 7 months ago. I just put a 0.5cc fill in today. I have a 4cc band. I have gained back 20 lbs. so, i now pray that there is still some hope for me, that i can reach my goal wt of 145 lbs. I started @ 247 lbs and now weigh 200 lbs.
  12. I have a question and I'm hoping to get some help on this. I have BCBSNC and I was looking into doing a revision from the Lapband to Gastric Sleeve. My Lapband is leaking fluid...I think. I haven't confirmed it but I have gotten 3 fills in the last 6 months and it is always at 5cc after the fill. So, that was my conclusion. I would like to know if the requirements for the surgery are the same since it is a revision? The requirements for bariatric with BCBSNC is 12 months (Long time). BTW I have gained so much weights its crazy. The band was working fine and it just stopped. Any input is greatly appreciated.

    Hungry

I am due for a fill, but can't get in to see the doc for another 3 weeks. This will be my first fill. Meanwhile, I'm really hungry and am not losing much weight. I'm being very careful but I've not been able to get to the pool for exercise. I have arthritis in my knee so they advised against walking outside the water. Any thought about what to do about the hungry thing or even the exercise that I'm not getting. I'm feeling pretty frustrated at this point and want the weight off so that my knee starts to feel better.

    It's worth it!!!!!

So I went and met with the personal trainer yesterday. She is very straight to the point and willing to help. She knows her stuff I must say!!! She is ranked in the top 50 personal trainers in the United States! So no big deal we are talking about nutrition and what I have to do. 1100 Calories sounds like ALOT  But like she broke it down for me and if I eat around five small meals a day.. that makes each meal only about 240 to 250 calories!!! :phanvan That sounds like NOTHING!!!! But I am real positive. The nice thing is she is not paper thin, but yet she looks really really good! So the dreaded question.. how much does she charge! I thought about 600 a month. I don't know how trainers work! HAHAHAHAHAHA Boy did I make myself laugh :whoo: For 12 weeks and four times a week the grand total is $2,280.00. Thank god for tax return season is all I have to say! To me her training me for three months is WORTH it. So I meet with her today we are going to just do measurements... the DREADED measurments! :cry But... I the good thing is I won't have to dread measurments or getting on the scale ever AGAIN!!!!! :biggrin1: I cannot wait to see myself in 12 weeks, just the improvements. You know she said something wise to me and it really stuck. "people think that eating does not control them losing weight, and it is the key factor, you cannot just do 2 hours of cardio and strength training and not watch your calories, and you cannot just do cardio and skip what you eat." Makes alot of sense from that perspective. She said we have to have ALL of the pieces of the puzzle. So true, and my whole life I have NEVER had all the pieces to the puzzle! All I can say is LOOK OUT WORLD CAUSE HERE I COME!!!!! :peace::peace:

    Banishing the Belly

I never have tried Pilates. For my exercise I alternate things but they include things like: crunches, leg lifts, walking, spinning, dance video and using weights to tone. My stomach has gone down as I lose, just not fast enough for me (never is, is it?!). I knew there had to be something to do to target a certain area but wasn't sure what to do besides crunches. I will have to try Pilates. I have been twisting! I am going to hold off on measuring for a while though.
  16. I went online to BCBS and registered. Then searched my plan for the IDT? or CDT? code for Lap Band surgery which is 43843. My plan came up with weight loss surgery and I was able to read about my coverage. Mine did not cover Lap Band. Yours might and it will give you the criteria. You just need that number. Good luck!

    Ups and Downs

Love my band...and have had good success (started at 234 and got down to 167) HOWEVER...I have had some complications with a esophageal distention and needed to have all but 1cc of fluid left in. I've gained 25 lbs from my initial loss and am feeling very discouraged. Vicious cycle..loss=motivation...Complications=weight gain...Weight gain=depression and depression=eating....you get the picture. Anyone else had these sort of ups and downs?

    Always Hungry and PBing

Hi Dow, I dont mean to be offensive, but if you are really worried about your band health, then I would stop PBing so frequently. THat is a sure way to slippage and esophagus problems. IT sounds like you are too tight if you are not able to keep solid protein down. Grazing foods like popcorn and such go down for pretty much everyone. YOu are probably not gaining cause you are barfing up so much and at the same time you are still getting enough of the junk food down to keep you at the weight you are at. I hope you at least take vitamins. Have you ever considered getting a slight unfill and giving the ole throat and band a chance to rest??? I personally would be so unhappy if I could not eat my protein and keep it down. I like eggs, meat, poultry etc..and steak. I love steak but I wouldnt want to regurgitate it.... LOL Babs in TX 334/180 ish

    11 days after first fill

Here iit is 11 days since my first fill and i haven't lost anything:thumbdown:. Now I haven't gaoined either so thath is something i guess. Next fill won't be until June due to the high volume of patients the Dr. has to see. I've already called to see if somehow I can get it moved up to at least the date it's supposed to be which would be the 2nd week in may. At this rate I'll still be at this weight until Summer!!! I thought I'd be losing steadily by now. Still feel like I'm on a diet.
  22. I had my lapband placed in Feb 2007, for the past week and a half i have the tight feeling pretty much all day. liquids do go down but they gurgle with each swallow. I am in no pain, and I am not tight, last summer i had some Fluid taken out, and my band has never been constantly too tight. I have started a new job and cant really take time off, unless there is a real emergency to get an adjustment until after August. But I do have an appointment on Aug 15, I have to travel to Chicago to my doctor and am self pay at this time. I guess my question is, should I just make sure I am getting enough liquids in and some food, and wait and see. I have had this before, but never this length of time. Usually it was just a couple of days. Only bad thing is there has been no weight loss.

    Hungry or not?

This was a great discussion topic! Glad I got to read all the feedback. I am 3 weeks post and my swelling has gone down hence my hunger has returned. I am trying to manage and not gain the weight I lost since cleanse. I find myself being able to last the 4 hours in between but can clearly eat more than a cup worth. I have an appointment on the 20th this month. Thinking I need a fill personally. However the head hunger is what I'm beating now.
