  1. Hi Joy, Sorry to hear about the difficulty you've had in the past. But your son is the best surprise that could have happened. I haven't had the surgery yet, I'm waiting to find out the results of endo, the polpys are actually in my stomach not my colon so I am hoping hear from someone with the same situation so I could get an idea if my surgery would need to be delayed. I would have the doctors measure your height again without your heels so they can document your correct height. From what've read on the message boards the 5 history is pretty important. The best advice I can give you is to call the insurance company and ask about their criteria and have them mail you a copy of it. If your height has been off by two inches all along then your bmi would be way off all along too. Your doctors would be the ones to determine if the c-section would affect the lap-band and how soon after you've had a baby you can have lap band. The process for me started almost two years ago. I went to a seminar and then decided to keep trying on my own for about a year then I finally made the decision that this was the right thing for me. From that point it took six months for approval because I had to do the supervised diet. The surgeon's office would not submit anything to the ins. company until all of the insurance criteria had been met. Once everything was together and submitted it took only week to be approved. My surgery date is next week but I hope it does not get delayed. My gut feeling is that it will go as planned. I really hope eveything goes well for you. The waiting process is tough but I've been over weight for most of my life so a little more waiting is not all bad.
  2. Hi, I wanted to tell that one of the teachers had polyps in her colon. She had them removed and she is doing great. It wasn't a big deal. The main thing was to have them removed before they tearned into something else. I have always been over weight ;but not always morbidly obesse. I'm going through True Results in Houston. There are four doctors with this company. I'm worried about the 5 year history. My BMI is forty althoug many people say I don't look it. Back in 03 my BMI was only thirty. It started to go up over the years. I had a baby on Valentines Day FEB 14th. 2007. I had a c-section so I hope that does not effect me. I was 205 pounds before the baby. The funny part is that I'm only 5'3 at 237 pounds. In the past I would tell people that I was 5'5. I think my doctors may have 5'5 on the records. My grandfather argued with me and told me that I was shorter than 5'5. I was short but didn't realize it because I always wore shoes with high heels. He measured my height with his tape measure and I was in shock. I cried! I cant' believe I weigh that much at 5'3. I do not have any co-morbities but I have struggled with weight all of my life. I have researched and read the book Lapband for Life three times. I'm ready to use this as a tool and start a new beginning. I'm currently sperated from my husband and it's still going downhill. I think it's for the best. Anyway I'm ready!!! The center True Results does everything for you. They will also do the 6 month supervised diet. Questions 1. Do you think that I have a good chance of being approved? 2. Do you have to be morbid obesse for all five years? 3. Do you think having the baby will affect me? I forgot to tell you that my beautiful son Dillon was a suprise. I was actually trying to loose weight with taking the b-12 shot and diet pills. They were putting something in the shot; some fertility stuff to help you loose inches. I got pregnant fast. I don't regret it I love my son very much! 4. How long did the process take? 5. Did they cover all of the expenses for your surgery? Let me know how things turn out with you Joy

    liquid diet

What has your doctor told you to eat? My doctor recommends whey Isolate Protein powder. Remember protein keeps you full longer than carbs. shakes like slimfast and carnation instant Breakfast do not have enough protein and won't keep you as full. I like Dymatize vanilla and Gold Standard Double chocolate. From costco Premier ready to drink protein is very good and has 30 g protein for only 160 calories. Also space out your food as much as possible. I understand if you only have one shake you will still be hungry. If however you know you can have something else in a couple hours it may help you stop snacking on unapproved food. FYI post op you will probably have 2 weeks of liquids and you can not cheat then it will be very bad for your stomach!

    did you do this?

Yes every doctor is different, I do find it a little surprising how much variance there is in their guidelines. I was banded on the 15th and for my first week I can have anything I can drink through a straw, including Carnation Instant Breakfast and creamed Soups -- just no chunks. If it's a Soup with anything in it, it has to be strained. I think the creamy soups and Instant Breakfast have really helped me deal with hunger.... clear liquids would be pretty hard, I admit. But that being said, I think you have to follow the advice of your own doctor. Maybe give him a call and ask him if you can move on to creamy soups?

    walking soon after surgery

I was sleeved June 16 and the week before the surgery I was walking 3 miles, now I can't seem to get passsed a mile and a half. I almost have a car sick feeling. I think it is very strange but I try it every day, I first thought it was the heat from walking at an outdoor track but the same thing happens in my cool basement on the treadmill.

    walking soon after surgery

I walked a lot of halls at the hospital until I was released. Once home I walked at Costco and the local mall since the weather outside was cold and rainy. I was released to go back to my "normal" 30 minutes on the treadmill two weeks after surgery. I had no problems.
  8. Wow, that is pretty far just being a few days out from surgery. But good for you. I hope I can do that after my surgery next week. How is everything else going?

    Killer Cravings

I was craving red meat starting right away at the beginnig my 2 week pre-op diet, all the way through the first 4 weeks post op. As soon as I hit that 4 week mark, I bought a little fresh ground chuck and threw a mini-burger on the grill. It was the most incredible thing I've ever eaten, pre- or post-op.

    Sliming Question?

I'm 7weeks post op and started sliming 6 weeks post op. I though it was because I was eating too fast but then noticed that it was happening when I ate meat. Today, for example, I had skinless chicken thigh and pinto beans with cheese. I started w/my chicken and immediately started slimming! I stopped eating it and just ate the beans and cheese and I was able to finish my meal, well minus the chicken. Not sure what that is about...

    where to start

I understand where you are coming from. I started my journey in August of last year. I watch an online seminar then started going to local support groups. During my decision making process I did a lot of research, read books, and started practicing the life style changes if I were banded. Like chewing, and working out for 40 mins 6 times a week. I lost 12 pounds during this time. On May 1st I was banded and I am happy with my decision and as of today I am down 39 pounds! I thank god every day for my support system. Good Luck to you.

    Port Area

Had my surgery wed the 7th. The muscle soreness and tenderness has gotten better but it is still a little difficult to get up after laying down and I still can't pickup anything from the ground. I'm sure it's a few weeks.
  18. Hi all! I am approved for surgery and my date is scheduled for July 1st. The nurse stated that they like to do all of the preop appointments on the same day and the day before or the week before surgery. Is that normal? I wish I just had a little more time after meeting with the nutritionist to make sure I have everything but I just have to do my homework before I meet with them. Has anyone had the same thing happen?
  19. I finished my 12 weeks of classes, I have approval from doctor and am meeting with my surgeon on Tuesday...so excited..! Excited to start this new chapter of my life.
  20. Hi All! Im just started my Optifast diet, have to do it till surger! Im on my fourth day and WOW is it challenging! LOL I have so many emotions running through me right now! Scared and excited all in one! I think I'm overthinking it. I know the day of Im gonna be a nervous wreck! LOL Anyone else feeling the same???
  21. No, I was close to the lower end of the cutoff weight for being approved, so I just had to do two weeks of staying the same weight. I had however given them proof that I had done many diets in the past without lasting success. Best of luck!
  22. Let me preface by saying that I dont even have a surgery date yet. I finally caught the workout bug and am actually looking forward to spending time OUTSIDE with my daughter rather than taking her out just because I know it's good for her. I don't look any different, but feel like a million bucks after a hearty workout this morning. And for the scale victory, I'm down 3 pounds this week. WOOT! I just started tracking my food last week and it really makes a difference.
  23. I have to brag for a moment because I did something this week never before done in my entire history! I frequently travel for business (50%+). This past Monday I flew from Southern California to Atlanta then on to Orlando before going home late Thursday night. There were lunches with colleagues, dinners with clients, more lunches with clients and colleagues, etc. I lost 1 lb! So, it's not huge, but seriously, a pound! I took Protein shakes with me for Breakfast, made the best choices possible for lunches and did duck out of one team dinner where I had a shake in my room for dinner. Another night instead of sitting at the lobby bar, which would have been what I normally did, I walked on the treadmill. Instead of eating crap at the airport, I made a shake in my fabulous shaker bottle (those rock). This week I start the pure liquid diet (ugg). There are two important client dinners that I have to attend. Will make the best choice possible there and do liquids the other meals. Then the week before surgery it's back to Orlando, shaker bottle in hand! Yay, I lost a pound!
  24. I am having a little trouble with this and was hoping for some ideas from you all. How did you begin to make working out a priority in your life? Don't get me wrong. I am one of the lucky ones. After the first couple of weeks of working out, I start to love it and miss it if I don't for a couple of days. However, I have a problem making my health a priority in my life. I am learning to eat multiple times a day instead of skipping food until about 3 in the afternoon. I get so busy I just don't think about it. Also, I usually wind up giving up working out when my life gets hectic. I always feel like I have so much to do, I don't have time. There are days where I start at 630 am and am literally involved in something until bed time. I know that people find the time. In fact, I would like to make it a priority. I just don't know what I will have to drop or how to restructure so that it gets done. Usually, I do have a little time at the end of the day, but a workout really wakes me up and if I want to go to bed at all, its not a good idea. I'm really not a morning person, but need to motivate myself to do it then I believe. So how do you do it? How did you all make yourself a priority? I'm almost glad my surgery isn't until January so that I have some time to learn this. I need to get into this habit before both the surgery and grad school next year when life is going to go crazy again. I will be attending school at the beach and have always admired those people who get up and jog on the beach in the morning. It seems like an amazing way to start the day! Thanks,

How does the calorie thing work?

I survived on 3 shakes a day. A couple of days I had 4. You will be weak. I lost 30lbs during my 2 week pre op. Absolutely the hardest thing I've ever done but so worth it. I'm 5 months post op & have lost 102 lbs so far. Good Luck to you.
