Help please! Which soft phase foods are best for constipation?
catwoman7 replied to CrowLuv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
chronic constipation is a pretty common problem among bariatric patients. A lot of us take a capful of Miralax every day. That usually works for me, but I still get backed up once or twice a month. When I do, I just do a night or two of Milk of Magnesia. other people take magnesium tablets, or stool softeners, or things like Smooth Move Tea. You just have to figure out what works for you and keep on top of it. -
My revision story month 1 of 6 [emoji4]

Thanks! I had the same arguments. However, I looked at some of his studies. He is one of the first doctors I can trust, "well a little." Tips so far, "eat slower, move more (I been counting my steps for awhile) I had stopped pushing forward and remember why I did this in the first place. Well, I added the last one. I will tell him if things get worse. They are monitoring me monthly starting Tuesday. I have an appointment with gastroenterologist bariatric specialists. Also, just FYI, the gastritis is a very very common finding in EGDs on bariatric pre-op patients. I'd maybe put that at around 80% or so? Maybe higher...but it's scary to read it. Right?

My revision story month 1 of 6 [emoji4]
SeattleLady posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Okay, I want my sleeve revised or maybe not? I have to go through a 6 month process. I am beeing seen by one of the top bariatric surgeons. So here are some positives: (1) I have not gain all my weight back. (2) Having another procedure does not guarantee my GERD will be completely eliminated. (3) I will work with a specialist for WLS patients with GERD. (4) Following this lifestyle, I can get healthier and lose more weight. (5) I am willing to do this for at least 6 months. (6) My hernia will continue to be monitored. (7) I will increase my exercise. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app -

fluffy diva replied to NancyLF's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery 7/24/19 with Blossom Bariatric in Nevada. It was smooth for me no pain, no discomfort, no nausea, no vomitting 2 days after my procedure I flew home. So far I'm down 35lbs but in the last week i hit a stall. After surgery I was a little tired it lasted about 2 weeks now i do Zumba 3 days per week and I walk (3 miles ) 3 days per week. The best decision I could have made -
And Welcome also from Me, Red-headed, one- half the size I used to be, if I tell you I am now in the 180s you probably figure out how BIG I used to be. Anyway I'm 5 days past my 1st year Surgiversity, thrilled with my size Now, I can see my GOAL in sight of 175, and, ah yes I AM 73 YEARS young, so had my RNY at 72 and will turn 74 on December 26th. So if you need inspiration or ANYTHING I'm usually close to my Smartphone and love chatting and helping where I can. I really have learned SO MUCH since I joined Bariatric Pal. And my favorite protein shake is Ensure High Protein in 🍓 Strawberry, it honestly reminds me of Nestle Strawberry Quik. No nasty after taste, not all that expensive, get mine from my local Wal-Mart.

Anyone had surgery done in New York?
levinme replied to shanshan's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
I went though the NY Bariatric Group -- that's pretty much all they do; can do all the testing on-site, have good follow-up and also a plastic surgery group too. I'd recommend them. -
I am planning to have sleeve surgery in January with Dr. Ariel Ortiz at OCC. My insurance won’t cover bariatrics or weight loss and I am planning to switch in Jan. But I am also trying to lose weight as soon as possible to be considered a kidney donor for my sister, so I’m doing Weight Watchers (again!) until January when my schedule is open for surgery in MX. 1) My PCP is un-supportive. Is there anyone from the Tucson, AZ area with a wonderful doc that embraces bariatrics? 2) What were your pre-surgery preparations that you recommend? Books, etc. Finally, this is a dumb question, but is there any way to sort this forum so that I see newest posts first? Thanks!

I got my EGD done on Friday. She wrote on the report that no findings to prevent bariatric surgery. However, I have antrum gastritis and she said it looks quite red and sore (no ulcers). I have been taking omeprazole for months but my stomach does burn when I wake up prior to taking that pill. I’m wondering what will happen when the antrum becomes part of the remnant stomach. Will the omeprazole work? Will that part no longer be irritated since it will no longer be digesting food? I plan on asking these questions of the doctor in a few weeks but wondering if anyone has a clue about this. Thanks

Let me tell you a story- it at least marginally fits. I am asthmatic, seems like almost all colds move down to my lungs & there they seem to take up residence. So often my PCP writes me a "script" for Capmist, has dextomorphin and other goodies in it. Problem is also I am very arthritic, have been since 25, yep You Read it right- I am one of the minority who had Early Onset, not so much from obesity but my mild Ehlers-Danlos gives my collagen nothing" to write home about" At the time I mention PCP was giving me Capmist, it helps thin mucus so I can breath better. Sound Okay?, well it wasn't! At the same time my Arthritis was flaring, my orthopaedic surgeon advised Ibuprofen, an NSAID, Dr Ortho says " You're a BIG GIRL- Take 4 every 4-6 hours" so Frustr8 is compliant to the INTH Degree. What nobody considered, let alone ME, is while CapmisT was cheerfully stripping the mucus from my lungs, it ALSO was destroying my gastric mucus layer. So down goes the Advil ( ibuprofen) , and it starts chomping on my stomach lining. And I didn't realize that WAS A DANGER, the next thing I knew , I was in Epigastric misery, so I took ME off to the gastroenterologist who confirmed after his diagnostic EGD that I was the UNWILLING OWNER of Hector, my baby but still valid Ulcer. So if you are visiting more than one doctor in a short, period of time that they know what each other are prescribing, don't emulate Me and end up in a Miserable state. I went into Bariatrics already diagnosed with Hector and gastritis from This Little Adventure. And My Lovelies, I had the Pain I wished my Enemies had instead of ME! Forwarned/ Forarmed, Okay?

Find Bariatric friendly pizza. The cauliflower pizza was disgusting lol I threw it away. But I found pizza that is actually good. Realgood Pizza Co. is gluten free and only has 4 carbs 25g of protein. You can find it at most major stores. When my family gets pizza for dinner which is maybe once every 2 weeks I'll pop this into the oven and enjoy eating my pizza while they eat theirs. I don't feel left out or like I'm doing anything bad. Find healthy alternatives to what you normally like so you don't feel so deprived. Of course some things we loved won't have a healthy alt like soda for example so you gotta say goodbye and leave it at that. If you're dying for chips try to find a kettle chip they have way less calories, carbs, and sugar, but don't make them a habit or try them if it will be a slippery slop for you. A burger you can have, but the healthy way with no bun and limit your portion.

Do you take calcium supplements if you are getting 4-5 servings of dairy in your diet?
jeanny replied to 2Bsmaller18's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I was taking vitamin D3,5000iu's, long before seeing Bariatrics, I've yet to go on the 2-week liver cleanse diet prior to surgery, and am still doing the 30% weight loss on my own, I have lost 20%, already. My Bari- Dr. said to wait for the call to start the liver cleanse diet, as they are sending into insurance for authorization. I have been taking calcium citrate 250 mg. with vitamin D3, each chew, for a total of 1500 mg. The nutritionist's instructions are to take 1200-1500 mg. daily, so that means 2 chews 3 x daily to get 1500, as 2 of them only comes up to 500 mg. I was told to take sublingual B12, but I don't remember if I was supposed to take under the tongue liquids or tablets, and wasn't told how much mg's so I am following the bottle instruction. I stopped my vitamin D3,5000ui, I was taking from the PCP Dr. The total D3 in the chews that many times a day comes up to about 750, and 5,750 iu' seems like an awful lot, to take Then there's the multivitamin, I wasn't told I had to get chewable, until I told the Bari Dr. I bought complete multivitamins with iron, but they are capsules,he said get Flinstones chewable complete, so I did, (gummies) only to get them home and find IRON nowhere on the bottle. I went back to the store and they had Flinstones complete with IRON in chewable tablet form. It really is irritating when they say take to two calcium chews, and leave out how many mg's.you have to take 1200-1500 a day according to nutritionist yet two chews at 500 mg's comes up to 1000 mg's. I think it would be very beneficial If they'd inform you how many mg's of this and that you're supposed to have and not just a quantity, and a name, of how many pills and chews since they have different set amounts, in iu's, and mg's, and milliliters. I'm not even sure if I should be taking them right now, prior to surgery or liver cleanse but figure it couldn't hurt. Yes, I have inquired and the nutritionist pretty much said not make a big deal out of it, yet throughout my pamphlet, the Dr. gave me said get used to taking it. So any advice? should I stop taking all this and wait till I get the call, and instructions, or keep doing what I'm doing?? -

Hmmm could you make the ricotta bake so that you are getting pizza flavours without the pizza? Or if you can tolerate meats have a little with pizza sauce, a little cheese a tiny bit of the toppings you crave? For me, I always enjoyed the works on pizza so if I was making a little bite or 2 now (if I could and was craving) I would do pizza sauce finely chopped green pepper, some diced ham and some cheese zapped in the microwave so it is gooey. Just enough for say 2 small mouthfuls so you can savour the flavour? I know for myself it is the flavours I miss (big Indian food junkie), perhaps this would work for you? In a very small amount? Then again this may well make the cravings worse. As far as sweet stuff goes, really have to work on avoiding the sugar or you definitely will dump. For me, the fear of dumping is enough to make me avoid anything that might trigger it, I even check how many carbs are in everything that is passing my lips so I don't dump because I can't stand all the drooling/vomiting/abdo pain. As already suggested do you get any kind of counselling from your bariatric team?

I recently had surgery, done by Dr. Bagshahi of Bagshahi Bariatrics in Fort Worth, Texas. My surgery was done in Plano, Texas. Dr. Bagshahi and his staff are outstanding. They're very polite and answer every single question you could ever have. Dr. B is very knowledgeable and professional and I've never felt rushed. Plano surgical center is also amazing. The nurses there have great bedside manner and make you feel comfortable on your big day!

Slow weight loss 21 days post sleeve surgery
catwoman7 replied to mia wallace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
a 30-40 lb weight loss the first month is the exception with "normal" WLS people. That's more common among people on shows like "My 600 lb Life", who start at way higher BMIs than most of us do.. I've been hanging out on this and other bariatric surgery boards for at least five years, and I would say the average loss for the first month is in the 15-25 lb range. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and I started out at over 300 lbs. So I'm not sure where you've been reading that, but even though it happens occasionally with us more "normal" WLS folks, it is definitely the exception. -
Sleeve revision to RNY or Bypass reason
AchieveGoals replied to AchieveGoals's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So a little bit about me, I was lap banded when I was 17 years old, got it taken out when I was 22 because of pouch enlargement. Now I am thinking of getting sleeve done. But the GERD part scares me, it's like exchanging disease states for one to the other. It helps get rid of Diabetes, but you acquire GERD, so severe to the point that people need revisions to another sleeve or another bariatric procedure. I would be scared to get an RNY or a Bypass, I am happy getting a Sleeve (and this was a decision I thought a lot over to even get to it), so the thought of so many revisions due to GERD scares me to even get this done in the first place. It makes me wonder if I will be one of those who undergoes this too, I don't have current GERD right now, sometimes I do get heartburn maybe three times a month, but I'm not taking anything for it chronically. Anyone have any thoughts? Thank you so much! -
At peace now. Now ready for my revision surgery
303nursemom replied to KadieEuropeBound's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I think that’s great your surgeon is following ERAS protocols! That means they are up to date on current Bariatric surgery research and want the best outcomes for their patients. I would encourage you to ask about medications they plan to use pre-surgery and intraop too though (narcotic, non-narcotic, Long acting local “numbing” medicine). That’s a big part of helping to limit narcotics post op. Hopefully your surgeon can alleviate some of your concerns when you speak to them about it. Best wishes for a successful surgery and smooth recovery! -
Ok, so this is still posing issues for me and i still need to know if anyone has a solution to this because it sounds like I should not just stop taking this medication. I should have explained originally that I am not taking this meds for blood pressure but a heart arrhythmia/palpitations that are pretty bad if I don’t take it. These won’t kill me but it wakes me up at night and sends me into a fight or flight response that is no good and keeps me from sleeping. I have asked the cardiologist and pharmacist and there just seems to be so much confusion about my options. I am finding it hard to believe I am the only bariatric patient that is on this drug and had to resolve this prior to surgery. Seems strange and hoping this larger pool of people can help me find somebody in my same position who can provide a solution! I have 3 weeks to figure this out but if I need to switch meds I sort of wanted to do that next week to give me time to adjust.

And it should have read "I Cannot drink more than 3 oz at a time" every since Ken the Internet Guru for Bariatric Pal told me downloading The Beta form of the Android App, I have lost the ability to edit after posting, it's " Look Quick Before You Submit" or Everybody will think You a Raving Loon if not a Poor Speller. And yes, I do know how to spell most things, only other excuse is: My mind runs on Overdrive and My Texting Fingers lag way behind! So the Great Brain is bouncing along to better Thoughts while I Post!

Cardiologist Requirement for Surgery
lingre replied to grommie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only had to get an EKG and then my cardiologist asked me if I could walk without being extremely out of breath. That was it and they sent that in to the Bariatric center as my cardiac clearance needed. I even have a slight heart arrhythmia I got diagnosed with last year but he still said I am clear and ready for surgery.
