Anyone have a hard time eating breakfast?
Sullie06 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 8 months post op and I cannot eat first thing in the am. I typically wake up about 6 am and eat breakfast, which usually just consists of greek yogurt, around 8 am. I then have a mid morning snack and will eat lunch around 1 pm. -
If you have reached goal and kept the weight off....
Introversion replied to Katie Loesch-Meyer's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I probably go through 20+ packets of Equal and Sweet-N-Low per day. I add it to my coffee, iced tea, herbal teas, and plain yogurt. I don't get intense cravings and have maintained my body weight with precision since entering maintenance one year ago. -

Feeling like I will never eat again
graziellabs posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post op and I get spasm or cramps every time I try to swallow a drink or something. I tried to have fat free sugar free frozen yogurt my doc said I can have it and could not get through 4 spoon fulls because my stomache hurt. Does this feeling ft better I feel like I will never eat real food again the way I am feeling now. I am forcing my liquids down and sometimes when I am drinking I feel like I have gas right in the middle of my chest. Will I get better? Is this normal? I can't wait to be on normal foods but I am scared to death that I won't be able to handle it because of the way I am feeling now. Can someone please tell me what they think or did u experience the same things. -
Feeling a bit out of control
James Marusek replied to Darlynn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
There are two phases to weight loss surgery - the Weight Loss Phase and the Maintenance phase. Because you had surgery around 3 1/2 years ago you are most likely in the Maintenance phase. This is the approach I used in the Maintenance phase. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery2.pdf It is common to have some limited weight gain after gastric bypass surgery. They call it a 20 pound bounce. The important thing is not let go beyond it. According to my nutritionist, meals should consist of equal parts of protein, fats and carbs after the first couple years post-op. Snacks should be limited to primarily whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible. Also do not expect to lose weight at a rate similar to right after surgery. Generally if you gained the additional weight over a couple years, then it may take a couple years of watching what you eat to get back down. -
My sneaky way of getting all the protein I get is I add a scoop of non-flavored 15 g protein to any broth or yogurt I eat. I know I'm eating about double the protein most people eat but I was on about 200 g before

Anyone have a hard time eating breakfast?
BiancaP78 replied to dreamingsmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the same issue ... I try to start my day with a full 16 ozs of liquids first thing. (Water, crystal light) I find that this "calms" my stomach down and then I just have a little apple sauce with my meds or 1/2 a container of Greek yogurt I don't push it because food in the am makes me feel gross... I'm 27 days post-op -
What food makes you feel the most restriction?
MSinger replied to dreamingsmall's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Chicken is the food that gives me the most restriction and I have to eat it much slower than any other food. My first time eating a grilled chicken breast I threw it back up because I was eating it as quickly as the other meats I've been eating. Didn't go well. That's pretty much the only food I have to still be careful with. But once it's in my belly I'm satisfied with it. Other foods that give me restriction: tuna cottage cheese yogurt - some people say yogurt is a slider food for them, but it keeps me very full lean cuts of meat -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
Sleeved in DFW :-) replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Crystal. Glad to hear you are feeling good! I'm so jealous you get to start puréed foods today. You only had to wait 7 days after surgery? Totally not fair lol. I guess I shouldn't complain. Starting today I can have yogurt, cream soups and cottage cheese. Too scared to try any yet this morning but I'll let you know. Lol PJ -
5 weeks is still early for meat. Don't stress if it isn't agreeing quite yet. At 5 weeks out, I was still working on cottage cheese, yogurt, eggs, beans, tuna salad. Stuff like that. Even cheese was too harsh. Water is a problem for lots of us.. herbal tea, adding flavoring, etc. can help. Miralax or the occasional enema can help the constipation.

I need some help. Diet and pain
SleevedinSI replied to Crystal Manco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You will consume so little like 1/4 to 1/2 cup you really can have any soup blended you like. I had a butternut squash soup . It was Devine. I had some soupy mashed potatoes with plain yogurt. Was like sour cream but more protein. It too was Devine. Just get used to something a little thicker than a shake. Eating this way is not so much for nutrition but healing, I couldn't tolerate purée until beginning of third week. Every one is different. It is always good to get ideas here. I did two full weeks post op on clear liquid. Then third week shakes and soups. I heated my chocolate protein shake added some milk to have a hot cocoa. Good luck. -

Thank you so much. After I read your post I saw a commercial for the yogurt. I'm going to get it tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback around the pain... I get nervous about that stuff. I need some help. Diet and pain
Shirley Shirley Parr replied to Crystal Manco's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love yogurt so it wasn't a problem for me. But I was told to eat Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt, no fat, no artificial sweeteners, no sugar. The Vanilla is very yummy. I felt like I was eating ice cream. You can also add a spoonful of PB2, which is powdered peanut butter without the fat. That pain you're feeling is most likely gas. Walking will help. Try not to take anything for it. I didn't take anything and was ok after walking. But ask your surgeon or nutritionist if you need help with it. I didn't have the gas pains after a few weeks. -

Hi everyone, I am 1 week post op tomorrow and I will be switching to puréed foods... my stage two of my diet. I know everyone's is different. I have been doing protein shakes and clear liquids. This stage is pudding, strained cream soups, apple sauce, yogurt. First, what type of yogurt did you guys use? Very confused about how to make it palatable. I hate yogurt, especially plain but I want to try new things. Also, and unrelated, I am having pain at times during sleep and during the day in the top middle of my stomach almost like a bubble, lasts like 5 seconds and goes away. I am a mom so I am moving a lot .. Thanks in advance. Crystal, 30, Rhode Island Gastric sleeve 8/21/17 Starting/highest weight: 241 Goal weight: 150 -

I'm on a high protein, low fat diet....of my own making. i eat a protein bar for breakfast, cottage cheese and a salad for lunch, and chicken or tuna with vegetables for dinner. Some days I will have a smoothie consisting of no fat yogurt with a banana. i have used this in the past, and lost weight very quickly. -
I made these last night: http://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a51783/zucchini-enchiladas-recipe/ This is really good too, though I left out the grapes and celery: https://www.google.com/amp/www.foodrepublic.com/recipes/curried-chicken-salad-with-greek-yogurt-recipe/amp/

Beets are such a healthy food I would keep them and ditch or cut back on the yogurt.

I'm doing pretty good too. Stayed one night in hospital and was sent home late the second post-op day. Getting fluids in has been an all day job! I am drinking protein water b/c the shakes kinda upset my stomach and have caused some diarrhea. Makes it a little more challenging to get all my protein in. What is the next step for you? You're totally right. We all seem to have different post-op instructions! I am on full liquids until tomorrow when I can start milk-based very soft items like cream soups and yogurt and cottage cheese. Not sure how my stomach will respond to any of those since the shakes have caused diarrhea. Its little frustrating. Good luck to you! -
Post op people only! Anyone in here that doesn't cook???
FluffyChix replied to xoxococojay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I see you are pre-op so that's a "whole 'nother world" from post WLS. Because, you still have the monkey on your back for portions and addiction to the foods that made us all fat, especially when it comes to eating easy, crap food that tastes delicious and packs a sh*t ton of fat/carb calories with them and the drive thru is a tempting, evil siren. My advice if THIS above scenario is actually your issue, then we all just have to suck it up buttercup and change the way we deal with food. Now, if I'm wrong and instead it's because you have lost your appetite and desire for food as you move toward the WLS outcome, then I sincerely apologize and will help you brainstorm. I second what everyone said about the crockpot and storebought rotisserie chicken especially post WLS, because crockpots are awesome for cooking things in moist heat so they will go down your new tummy better. But if even a crockpot sounds too gruesome for words with work, then you can think of many other pre-made foods from the grocery. I personally think some of them are full of hidden sugars/salts, but there are some jewels that work really well. I tend to eat the same 2-3 things for breakfast and lunch every day. It's easy. It's easy to track in MFP. And I'm not bored by them cuz they are just "expendable meals." I'm busy with work and other daily chores so am not counting on them to speak to my soul, just fuel my body and keep me from going off the deep end with hunger. Breakfast: 1. Omelet or egg scramble with Hillshire Farms Black Forest Ham or pre-cooked turkey sausage crumbles from Jimmy Dean, baby organic spinach/super greens trio, mushrooms, salsa. 2. Cottage Cheese/Greek Yogurt mixture (to keep the carbs down and get probiotics), frozen blueberries, 5g Fiber One Cereal 3. Green smoothie: scoop of banana cream protein powder, 1.5oz frozen chopped spinach, 1oz frozen blueberries, 5g whole psyllium husks, 12oz water, 4-5 ice cubes=blend and drink. (Sometimes I add 6g Vitacost Peanut Butter Slim Powder.) Lunch: 1. Salad + grilled or unbreaded protein (you can get at any drive thru or make your own) 2. Lunch Wrap: Hillshire Farms deli meat, low fat mayo, organic spinach or chopped cabbage, low cal dressing, low carb tortilla 3. Green soup: 2c water, 1 1/2 tsp Better Than Bouillon, 100g chopped frozen greens-your choice, 2 mushrooms sliced, frozen squash or cauliflower (optional), 2oz diced protein (any kind), spices of your choice, hot pepper vinegar. 4. Sardines, mustard, pork skins and grape tomatoes Dinner: You can do anything, but essentially I grill/broil/pan saute a whole package of chicken on the weekend. I cook a lb or 2 of ground meat (turkey, chicken, lean beef, or pork), and usually make a pork loin cuz they are so dayum cheap. Once that is done, I can portion and freeze or leave in the fridge since there's 2 of us. So that's the meat. Once in awhile I will make a pot of chili, meat sauce for "spaghetti," and special soups or stewps then portion and freeze for rainy, non-cooking meals. I keep frozen veggies (broccoli and green beans), fresh veggies: salad stuff, grape tomatoes, avocados, zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms, onions, asparagus, etc cuz it takes 5 minutes to whip up a couple of servings of veggies at dinner. I keeps sauces either made or bought to add to meat to jazz it up. I keep shiritaki rice and noodles to sub for pasta. Then beyond that I keep string cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan on hand along with cottage cheese, yogurt, hard boiled eggs. I keep packets of chicken, tuna, and salmon in the pantry. With all of that stuff, I'm able to get meals together in 10 minutes or less. That keeps me on the weight loss trail and living the dream as I work toward surgery. If you don't want to cook meat, look in the frozen foods at all the grilled basics like: fajita beef, grilled chicken, brisket, pulled pork--just read the labels for added sugar, carbs, and calories. Hope this helps you! -
Aug 25 Post Op Update
HDScarlett replied to HDScarlett's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had the sleeve. Yes, my belly is sore and sounds kind of like a garbage truck but the gas pains are tolerable. Slept in a recliner last night because I am a side sleeper and my drain is on that side. Liquids are going down just fine now. I'm on clear liquids till Friday and then I can add yogurt and cream soup. My energy level is a little low but nothing I can't handle. I have a desk job and if I didn't have the drain I think I could go back to work tomorrow! Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app -
I can finally start my story and ready for the first step...
Geri Marie replied to Carb Kitty's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I recently had a back surgery and had to quit my job. So I am at home and not able to do much but walking. I am obsessed with what I am going to eat throughout the day. I dont bing but I am always on my phone app fat secret typing what I am going to have! I too have the exact same insurance requirements. I had my first Nutrition class Thursday and I originally weighted in at 254.4. At Thursdays appt I was 250.2!! The trick is when you eat track it and set limits! I have been told to eat within 30 minutes from waking otherwise your body goes in starvation mode. So when I get up, I got straight for the bullet and make my own protein shake. This may not be the way we are going to do it post op but its working for now. At lunch I have a rather big protein planned meal and the I have a shake later on around 5 pm. Around 7 I have a snack of either yogurt or an apple with PB. So far so good. I have been trying to watch the clock and make my meals last 20-30 minutes and not to drink before or after at least 30 minutes. I counted my days left today because I'm going stir crazy. I have excatly 79 days to surgery!! I would love to be a buddy as I am pretty much on my own here.
