So my surgery was for April 2 with the whole corona virus it got pulled back and I was supposed to start my liquid diet on March 19 before I did my doctor told me not to do it because surgery was a no go . My new date in June 30 and I start liquid diet on the 16th of June. So I’ve gained about 7 pounds during lockdown March 21- June 3 👀 so I’m worried the liquid diet won’t be enough to help me lose the weight I gained plus more 🙈 how much Can a person lose in the liquid diet ?

If you are asking me I have lost 9 lbs so far which is really good for me considering I weigh 171.2 . I never got under 164.8 so I would like to see if I can get to 155 but I am not going to kill myself to do it. I have a large frame and am weighing around my high school weight and I am okay with how I look. I am eating around 700 to 800 . You are doing great to average 10 lbs a month on a revision. How much weight are you wanting to lose?

Has anyone been scheduled for August? Some of my appointments were Telemed, during the Covid-19 shut down, so I was starting to doubt that my surgery was going to happen. Things are moving forward. I have not gotten an official date, but last week had a Sleep Apea test. The August surgery was noted in my referral, and since then in another appointment. It seems like a long way off, but time has a way of going quickly, especially when you have things to do.

How are you doing with weight loss now? I just wanted to give you some encouragement. I had a MGB in February, and have lost 45 from the day of surgery (I have lost a little more, but only if you include the 2 week pre-op diet). It’s been slow, but pretty steady with only a few stalls. So I’m averaging 10 lbs a month while only eating around 800 cals a day and getting in at least 10,000 steps a day. It can be frustrating when you read about others who aren’t exercising, are ingesting more, weigh less than you do, and are losing faster. I just have to assume that my metabolism is a bit messed up. But I’m determined to continue to lose weight.

You wanna trade ? lol I haven't tried any of that stuff but I figure if I am dumping on 8 grams of sugar in cereal then I am gonna dump on everything. I am hoping after a few months it will stop. I would like to lose 10 or 15 more lbs and try some braums frozen yogurt twist in a cup.

6 Month Pre-Op Diet Question
Knk710 replied to NurseJaci13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree about the insurance driver and true they shouldn't hold it against. I pray the date is solid. This Covid-19 def doesn't help with weight stability... Good luck ... -
Good evening, its my first day on this forum. Glad ur first day of liquid diet is going well. I'm nervous about that. I love my toast n rice. I have surgery the 29th. Tuesday. I have appt to talk to the Dr. I will find out when I go on my liquid diet and the specifics. I'm nervous and excited. Then Covid 19 testing (a bit nervous about that. Some say it hurts) the hospital test all patients pre-op n Dr for overall health and safety.

6 Month Pre-Op Diet Question
NurseJaci13 replied to NurseJaci13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As far as I can tell they don't really care if I gain or lose, at least from what my BRS nurse said. It's more about the "education" I receive. I'm more concerned that they will think I gained on purpose to get over 40, which I didn't. I also have to be over 40 or be over 35 and have co-morbidities @WishMeSmaller and I agree. I'm only 5' 3" so a pretty small weight gain or loss changes my BMI but 5-10 pounds doesn't really change my health issues. I don't think my doctor even cares that much. They want you to meet with a nutritionist twice before surgery and do two psych evals, but they don't have a minimum time to do it in. They will get you in as quickly as you meet those two requirements and insurance approves. I was just wondering if anyone else had this situation. -
6 Month Pre-Op Diet Question
WishMeSmaller replied to NurseJaci13's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My program (Insurance) required three months of medically managed weight loss. They normally have you go through a twelve week course, but I was unable to attend the classes due to work. I ended up seeing my primary doctor once a month and a nutritionist once a month to meet the goal. I did not lose any weight, but was approved for surgery. My insurance requires BMI > 40 or BMI 35-40 with co-morbities like hypertension, diabetes 2, high cholesterol, or sleep apnea, to cover the surgery. I have co-morbidities and my BMI bounces right around 39-41. My surgeon is not particularly concerned about my pre-surgery weight as long as there are no huge changes in weight and I follow the two week liquid pre-op diet. I expect to lose 10-15 pounds on the diet, which will put my BMI at about the 39 level. If I did not have co-morbidities my insurance would not pay for the surgery with the lower BMI. It is kind of ridiculous, really. -
Revision completed
Tracyringo replied to Tracyringo's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I weighed in at 171.2 this morning. I am having problems with vitamins and calcium chews. I quit taking my bariatric vitamins because they have and extra 45 iron and were causing issues in the restroom which I cant have . So I am taking 2 Flinestones a day at least until I get in to my Dr. appointment in 10 days. I also am dumping on the calcium chews. I had one after lunch today thinking I would not dump with the food WRONG ! So I have some hard pill ones that I will be taking starting tomorrow. I may have felt some kind of restriction at lunch. I had a Smart Ones beef with mashed potatoes and gravy. I ate about 6 of the 9 oz and not too long after I felt it. I will have to be careful and eat slower from now on just to be safe. All was pretty okay until I ate the calcium, so glad I didn't vomit. I took a nap curled in a ball instead. -
I had surgery on 12/31/19 and have done very well. I was very lucky to have an easy recovery, including no physical hunger. Well, I'm 5 1/2 months out now and my hunger has returned - a lot! I'm trying to be sure to eat dense protein at all my meals. My program doesn't like snacking so I'm trying to avoid that but if I am really hungry I'll have some greek yogurt. Does anyone have any advice on good, high protein, dense meals you like? I'm not much of a cook so simple items would be best. Thanks in advance, Lori

Wow!! 7 years strong maintaining a 10lb spread? Thats’s amazing! I hope to be just like you in 7 years ❤️ !! Good luck w/ your consults, and yeah, make sure you get a surgeon that you mesh well with...it makes things smoother (and one less thing to deal with!) P.S. at the time of my consult (June 2019), my surgeon’s first open slot was 9 months out (so like March 2020...and this was PRE-covid!). But since my combined surgeries were going to take 5-6 hours, he opened up a day specifically for me (I was his only patient that day) 3 months earlier, in Dec 2019. Sooooo...I guess what Im saying is everything is negotiable, lol

Thank you so much. I am. I have a few consultations scheduled already. I’m starting with 3 and will do more if I feel the doctors are not right for me. One surgeon I was going to schedule with is scheduling out for tummy tucks into June of 2021!! Thanks covid. November will be my 7 year anniversary of my wls. I’ve kept my weight steady!!! I toggle about 10 lbs back and forth but I think that’s normal right ?

I paid roughly $15K total all-in for a Tummy Tuck (with muscle tightening and flank lipo), Breast Lift & Arm Lift (the panniculectomy portion of the TT was covered by insurance...if it wasn’t, I would’ve had to pay an extra $5-6K). I was in hospital for 2 nights (also covered by insurance). P.S. the $15K was in Canadian dollars, so that’s like Monopoly money for you U.S.-ers, lol. P.P.S. Despite the sometimes rough recovery, it was some of the best money I ever spent. @janc75 : Are you looking to get stuff done soon?? Am excited for you...! Edited to add: FYI: I had the surgeries in Dec 2019, and the pricing was based on the current prices as at June 2019, when I had my first consult)

I got my surgery 3 weeks ago yesterday, so 22 days ago. I gained almost 10 lbs in the hospital - I assume from the air they pump into your stomach plus the swelling.. I lost that within maybe 2 days, then went from 192 lbs to 177ish in a week to 10 days (sorry can't be more accurate - I didn't log this stuff so I am estimating)... now 22 days after the surgery -- I've only lost another 2 lbs. I've pretty much stayed 175lbs for the past 10 days (estimate).. I've been upset about it, but I googled around... Here is what I found - when your on the clear liquid diet your liver shrinks...and when you start drinking/eating things with substance...your liver expands back to its normal size. This can cause a "stall" around week 3. The blogger said to be patient while your body sorts itself out. I am not sure how correct that info is, but if you google around -- it is not uncommon to have "stalls" in the first few weeks. Let's keep this thread going with our progress...

some people come home from the hospital up to 10 lbs heavier from all the fluids they pump into you. Sometimes it takes a week to get back down to what you weighed when you went into the hospital. Just stick to your plan -- the weight will start to come off.

My first laparoscopic surgery incisions disappeared completely. I would be hard pressed to find a scar or anything. Right now I am 3 weeks Post op from another surgery and they have been swollen, stuck out, scabbed over, and are gradually going away. I'm confident they will be hard to find in a few months. I kept my steri strips in place through careful bathing and most of them were still on after 10 days. I saw my surgeon at the 2 week mark and he removed the strips and manually removed one stitch from the largest incision.

True! There seems to be confusion around this issue. There are only emergency and elective surgeries, that is one way to look at it. There is surgery that is immediately life saving vs. all others. And there are very few of the former. States (as well as countries) have opened those up at different rates according to state covid-19 stats.

How do you deal? It's so hard..
California Guy replied to BoredFatGirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm on the puree diet right now. I hope you stay strong and take it day by day. Each Post OP day was way better than the last. During my first week post OP I've taken my family to fast food restaurants and sit with them drinking water while they eat. I've cooked dinner or baked cookies or bread which I was not going to eat. For me, I am so sure I will follow the nutrition plan, it isn't tempting at all. They feel bad eating in front of me but I tell them it honestly isn't an issue. I did this twice, once for the sleeve, then once for the revision to DS. Something that made it even easier this year is that I dieted for 5 months prior to my surgery. I dropped all sugary foods, fried foods, and sugary beverages. Another thing that helps me is having a finite list of things I am allowed to eat. If I see or smell something else, I just say that's not one of the 10 things I plan to eat during this phase. I understand the position you are in now craving things you may have had recently but knowing if you eat them you could put your health at risk. There is definitely a need to set boundaries with your spouse regarding where he eats since this is troubling you. -
My surgery is coming up on Tuesday (6/16), so I had to go in and get my COVID-19 test today. I was really dreading it and building it up in my mind (pretty silly thing to be focused on given the surgery I'm about to have), so I'm glad it's over with. Overall, it wasn't as bad as I expected. It definitely sucked, but I would describe it as extreme discomfort with very minimal pain, and it was all over very quickly. They're sicking a long swab somewhere where nothing is supposed to go, so every instinct in my body said "get that thing out of there", but it's not like it was very painful or anything. The whole thing was over in a matter of a couple of seconds and I was left with some teary eyes and a slightly roughed-up feeling nose, but no worse than after a few days with a cold when your nose starts to feel a little raw. That was about an hour ago and it's already feeling mostly back to normal. Overall I'm happy that it's over with and I can start focusing on my more rational fears, like having 80% of a major organ removed in a couple of days 🙂

@Suzi_the_Q : so all this corset talk sent me down the corset-research rabbit hole yesterday, LOL. While I am not really in the market for a corset for its waist-cinching abilities, I started looking into them because I AM in the market for a lower abdominal cinching/compression/squishing device. As I mentioned earlier, I had a tummy tuck almost 6 months ago have have been wearing an abdominal binder to address the swelling (doc says it can persist for up to a year. a YEAR!!). The binder is just a basic elasticized "belt" with a velcro closure that I wrap around my lower abdomen/hips. My problem(s) are that (1) my waist is relatively smaller than my lower abdomen/hips (there's about a 9-10 inch difference) so the top part of the binder gapes alot and is forever riding up to move OFF of where I want it to stay. Angling the velcro closure to make it it fits smaller up top, has the same effect. (2) My hip bones seem to stick out further out than the dreaded swell bump, so I can't seem to get a snug enough fit/compression level across my lower abdomen for my liking, AND I end up with sore hip bones from the friction from trying to pull it tight enough. Sooooooo....I thought maybe a corset would do the trick, since there would be a real fit through the waist to the lower abs (to prevent ride up), and could possibly also address the hip bone protrusion situation because the added help of the steel busk down the front (to compress my lower abdomen without pressing down on my hip bones). Anyway, this is my long-winded lead up to ask: When you were corseting, did you also find that there was alot of compression to the lower abdomen? I'm thinking a body suit corset would do the trick, as the more traditional ones without the attached panty *look* like they are still pretty loose at the bottom hem...? I get there are no actual bones to move around in that area for any permanent squishing, I'm really just looking for some effective compression on my swell bulge for my current body shape. Or am I going down the wrong rabbit hole for my needs? Thoughts?

I have been taking dicoflenec (generic Voltaren) for at least 10 years. I just take an omeprasole (sp?) once every other day. My surgeon was aware of it and totally cool with it. Over 5 years out and I just have regular appointments with my PCP. The thing about dicoflenec though is that it does not play nice with tylenol, aspirin, cold medicine, heart medicine... you get the idea. It is only available via prescription because of the interactions. I take it for my arthritis and it is nothing short of a miracle drug in my opinion.

Had Surgery Yesterday - Can Drink and Swallow Normally?!
cowgirlcullen replied to cowgirlcullen's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Today I tried to get some protein in again since yesterday didn't go so well. I just did 2 scoops, which was 10 g of protein and it seems to be sticking thank goodness. Yesterday I tried 20 g in 1 drink and it went in one end and out the other. So, each day is making a difference in this healing/transition process this first week. -
How do you deal? It's so hard..
BoredFatGirl posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How do you deal with those close around you still eating the way you used to? My husband was frying up some meatballs and I was in tears contemplating actually trying to eat one (and I am just 3 days post-op). I ended up freaking out on him for even making them - brought up the 10 hotdogs he ate next to me the past two days and 4 sandwiches he had as a snack while we were in bed last night.. I mean, I am just so upset with him. I wanted him to be supportive and he just thought that meant he should run for me.. How do you deal?
