    Got approval today

Hey, I know the fear, but the fear of growing older, larger, and having more and more health problems like diabetes, sleep apnea, high blood pressure, etc. is much scarier. I had all these problems. There are people here who have had the sleeve several yeas ago. My surgery was three years ago. You will know when you are ready, and until then, good luck!

  5. Strenuous activity often leads to muscle soreness. Finding a way to reduce this unpleasant consequence of physical activity would would be beneficial. After weight loss surgery some of us discovered that we had muscles we didn't even realize we had, due to years of neglect. A team of Spanish researchers believes it has discovered a cocktail that reduces such discomfort. Their formula is a combination of watermelon and pomegranate juice enriched with citrulline and ellagitannins. The authors chose these ingredients because they are linked to beneficial metabolic effects and performance enhancement. For example, citrulline, a non-essential amino acid found in watermelon, helps reduce the accumulation of lactic acid, a major cause of muscle fatigue. Citrulline is also converted to nitric oxide, a chemical that increases blood flow and is believed to boost muscle performance. Pomegranates contain antioxidants and ellagitannins; the former help protect nitric oxide from being degraded, and the latter aids strength recovery. The scientists then recruited 19 young men, aged 18 to 30 with extensive experience in resistance training, into a double-blind randomized crossover study. They tested four different beverages: Watermelon juice (WJ); watermelon juice enriched with citrulline (CWJ); watermelon and pomegranate juice enriched with citrulline and ellagitannins (CWPJ); and placebo (sugary water with pink coloring). Each man consumed 200 mL (about 7 ounces) of one of the beverages at random, and then performed a physically intensive squat exercise. The researchers then collected blood samples and asked the volunteers to rate the muscle soreness of their legs on a scale from 1 to 5. After given a week to rest, the volunteers repeated the experiment with a different randomly selected beverage. This procedure was continued until every volunteer had consumed all four beverages. The results of the study showed that at three time points after the squat exercise (1-hour, 24-hour, and 48-hour), the watermelon/pomegranate cocktail (CWPJ) was significantly associated with reduced muscle soreness compared to placebo. In fact, by 48 hours, athletes reported no muscle soreness at all. Furthermore, when the volunteers drank the placebo, their blood tests revealed a higher concentration of myoglobin (a biomarker of muscle damage) than when they drank CWPJ. The cocktail, therefore, appeared to reduce muscle damage. http://www.acsh.org/news/2017/05/30/juice-cocktail-could-help-reduce-muscle-soreness-athletes-11354

    Nails?

Hi! I haven't had my VSG surgery yet, but I had my gallbladder removed about three years ago and I had to have plain nails for that because when you're "under" they can check to make sure you're breathing by if your nails turn blue. Sorry if this freaks anyone out, this is just what I was told.

Dr. Kelly Pre Op And Post Op Diets

Hi, I am getting sleeved with Dr. Kelly on Mar 20 and I think I am just going to stick to 3 Protein shakes and 2 yogurts a day for the 2 weeks. Speaking only for myself, I have to be very structured or I will fall off the wagon. Alana Hope this helps.
  9. I had my first fill 3 weeks ago woke up Sunday unable to eat more then 3or 4 bites no matter what it is or how much I chew it. Any more is painful an wants to come back up. Liquids are fill just a little slower. Is this a problem or a good thing. :confused2:

    Thinking About

Porclndoll, I'm going in for a small unfill next week. I'm having the same problems. No PB's, but I burp for an hour after every meal. Heck, I burp for an hour after coffee. I've been afraid to get rid of any fill because I don't want to wake up with no restriction, but it seems like the smart thing to do. I only want .1 or .2 cc's out (I only have 1cc). I hope he can take out that little... With all of the problems being reported we should play it safe.
  11. I followed my NUT and then saw my doctor 1 month post and he said to try to only eat 2 meals and if hungry in between eat veggies. I like his idea and I think he did it to help get the scale moving a bit better. I eat a Protein bar for breakfast, IF I am hungry, for breakfast. Small lunch and dinner. It works for me during the week. on the weekends I have a small breakfast ( couple of scrambled eggs) and a small dinner. I may eat a "snack" mid-day. I missed my veggies because of the protein first, veggies and then carb for meals the NUT said to follow.
  12. In all my time here, I've seen a bare handful of people fail to lose their hunger and most of them had issues later on, not immediately. But oh, the desire to eat when you're stuck on a liquid diet is a misery most of us know and understand. First, check your PPI. If you're not on one, start ASAP. If you're on Prevacid, know that it doesn't work for a lot of people and you might need something else. If you're on a good PPI and still feeling that growly, gurgly, "I'm hungry" tummy, talk to your doc and get a prescription for something stronger. Second, really evaluate what you're feeling. Is it a desire to chew food because you're not feeling satisfied with liquids? That's pretty normal. It passes as soon as you hit the next frustrating phase: mushies, and the irritation you experience when you want to eat, feel you need to eat and know that you need more nutrition but you get full after just two or three bites. Third, it really does take time for the ghrelin to work it's way out of your system. You really might be feeling some residual hunger but it should be easier every day. I'd say that at this point you should be past it, though. Eating plenty of Protein will help you feel full longer. Try to push shakes before other liquids, and hang in there. Good luck, and congrats on your new sleeve, ~Cheri

    Insurance

I have personal choice of bc of PA. All they wanted was the psyche eval and the info from the surgeon. I got my approval 9 days after the surgeon sent in the precert! I still had to get the tests the surgeon wanted so altogether it took 7 weeks to get surgery scheduled !! Good luck

    Can't Feel My Port????

Your stomach is probably still a little bloated from the surgery. It took me a couple of weeks before I felt mine, now I easily find it. Sometimes just leaning against the counter I can feel it.

    banded on the 7th

i've lost 9 pounds so far, but all week it has been crazy up and down by about 10 pounds due to all the swelling, and everything else...i know it feels like without eating or drinking much you should be 20 pounds down by now, but our bodies have to adjust. hang in there...they say the first 4 weeks are about healing and the rest is about losing....so try not to worry too much for now

    ANZAC Day downunder..

Marion Thanks for sharing the recipe. I wondered what Anzac Biscuits were. I am having a good weekend, even though it is rainy here this week. I finally cleaned up a mess of paperwork yesterday and managed to get in a nice walk between the rain showers. I got myself an I Pod, and it is helping me to want to walk more, because I love listening to the music. I also joined a waking club that starts in a few weeks. I hope to meet some people in my area that like to walk for exercise. A health club in the area is sponsoring the walking club and we will walk around various parks in the area. I did a 50 min cardio workout DVD this morning. Oh my, two years ago I certainly would not have been able to do that! I am going to pick-up my Mother from the retirement center and have her for lunch today. So I made a big fruit salad, crab cakes and wild rice. I don't eat rice often, but this is whole grain and should be pretty healthy. Have a good week. And keep up the good work! Having only one cookie once in a while is O.K. We can't give up everything - all the time. Karen

I honestly only went to one and didn't like it. I keep trying to attend but I travel almost 3 weeks out of the month and its hard for me to get to them
  19. My doctor told me week 2 I can eat mushy food/pureed, so I can begin this tomorrow morning. I am NOT going to be eating any meat pureed- gross. However, I'm curious to what others did for this week? What's acceptable? What were you able to eat? I'm so glad I made it through the Liquid Phase! There were days I thought I wouldn't!

    Profession after surgery?

I was a bread-a- holic. I loved my bread! I was so hoping that this surgery would change my tastes, and it has. I find that I no longer crave bread, Pasta, pizza, lasagna, french fries, pastries, anything with simple carbs. meat is what I crave now...and veggies. I've eaten more salads in the past month than I had in five years. I'm on a stall right now, but I know my body is just readjusting, so I'm not worried.
