Ooo good to know. I wrote those down and I'll go check them out at the store next time I go. I've always thought I was weird my body had been give me more. My doctors have been persistent though just because tou can do a yogurt cup doesn't mean you should stick to 2 tbsp. I try to but dang it's Hard sometimes. So I think I might try slow and steady and increase protein intakes and if I'm not having a problem I should be ok. 3 days away from pureed phase. Woot.
  2. I feel you! I haven't weighed myself as of yet as I'm a bit scared to, tbh. I think I've probably gained weight. I'm going to weigh myself next week as I'm coming on 9 weeks post-op with less than 30lbs weight loss. I still have problems with water (especially when working all day) and I don't count/track calories due to old eating disorder habits that focused on counting calories. I'm starting the gym next week too, so I'm hoping that will work!

    November 2022 surgery support!

Hope everyone is doing well! I finished my 1 month training program, start a 2 month one on Monday. My weight loss has been slow, I was going to say non existent but then realized I still lost almost 10 lbs this month. I knew starting weights was going to change the way I weight myself since muscle uses water to heal, but there were some weeks were I was loosing a pound. Once I upped the water, which I hit now 78-84 oz easily and my protein is on point, I started to loose again. But can't complain, really haven't had any stalls and if this can count as one, I'm grateful for it. Exercise made me hungry, like crazy hungry. There was a day where I was snacking on cookies, quest chips etc and realized I needed to stop before it became an issue, so I'm doing 3 meals and a protein shake split into 2 snacks. I'm also thinking of doing a few days of shakes only, if I see my weight not moving much this month. I want to be in onederland by 6 months.

I use Oikos tripe zero yogurt they have 15g per small container, they also have Oikos Pro (more sugar) with 20g and Ratio yogurts have 25g of protein. If you like chocolate milk, Fairlife Core Elite protein shake taste like it (or what I recall choco milk tasted when I was little, do not care for chocolate much as an adult) and its 42g of protein. I use those if I'm low on protein but use a 14oz bottle in 3 servings since I stay at 60g now that I'm 4 months. I did not have any back pain but I still have discomfort and numbness on the left side where the stomach went out, is not by the incision but near the belly button. The RN said it was normal since nerves are cut and can be 6+ months for it to heal. Regarding fullness cues, at the beg is hard because your stomach is healing and even just eating something new or a new texture will have some sort of reaction which we confuse with fullness or damage. I will usually get hiccups at the beg and sometimes I do now too, but its usually more about me not chewing properly or eating too fast. My guidelines say to eat slow and take 30 min, so I will eat, take a break and continue if I want more within the timeline, otherwise save it for later.
  6. I'm in this boat, as well. I lost a good amount of weight from pre-op diet and from my first two weeks post-op, but since then the scale has barely moved for me. I am back onto solid foods now that I'm more than three weeks post-op, and I'm tracking everything I eat and even walking/moving more than pre-op. I've started some very light resistance training because I'm afraid of losing muscle instead of fat. But I was hoping to see a faster weight loss than what I'm currently seeing. I think because so many people tell you it'll happen fast, but in the moment it seems so slow. How are you since you last updated? I hope you're well.

My hunger was week 2 into 3. The 2 tbsp amount could alway be more. Idk if it was because I wake up late in the day so body needs catch up but the first part of the day it's like I could down my yogurt cup no problem. Not until early evening did I feel content with small portions. I never felt pain or whatever I still took it slow. Which brings up a question... 1) how do you tell when you are truly full not just eating to fast or too much at a time? I burp all the time so I scrapped that one. Sometimes I just want to anymore. Other times when I wait I get a hiccup so stop but can feel Hungry again a bit later. I don't feel in distress or anything besides trying to navigate everything. Also random question. Do you still have back and incisions pains? I'm 3 weeks now and the back pain is strictly right side.
  8. I agree with what everyone has said. You are doing so well in regards to meeting protein & fluid goals. Many of us take weeks to actually reach them regularly. I wonder if you are doing a little too much physically this soon after surgery? It’s a pretty major surgery & while walking is great 30mins is a lot in one hit. It may be stressing & pushing your body too much while it’s trying to heal & recover. Try spreading the 30mins out over the day: 2x 15 or 3x 10. Everyone is different of course. Personally if I walked for 30 minutes the first two weeks (or longer) I wouldn’t have been able to move for the rest of the day. All the best.
  9. Less than a week before gastric bypass surgery. I'm nervous but excited. Been lurking here for a while, reading. I'm about ready as I'm going to get. Down 20 pounds in 3 months. A ton of pre op testing done and cleared. Food/drinks, chewable vitamins, protein, meds bought. On 2-week preop diet now which includes 2 protein shakes a day along with 3 ounces lean protein and 2 1/2 C.  non starchy veggies and is totally do able for me. Clear liquid day before surgery. A full sugar Gatorade night before  and again 2 hrs before arriving at the hospital. Interesting how different everyone's diets are depending on your doctor.

    I'm optimistic all will go well. Good luck to the April surgeries happening this month and to all that are going through the process.  {{hugs}}

  10. Have you tried going back to the pre surgery diet or the post surgery days 1-14 after surgery. it may help get you back on track. I'm only 4 going on 5 months and have stalled and what worked for me is to returning to high protein liquids for a 2 weeks. its kind of a rest for my body and then i can start trying to east solids again and get back to regulars healthy eating.

    Feeling frustrated and demoralized

Looking at some of your other posts, it looks like you had surgery 3/20, is that correct? Regardless, as others have said, its far too early for you to have significant loss post-op and you may need to reassess your expectations. Those first few weeks immediately after surgery your body is putting all its energy into healing from major surgery. You need to be patient and consistent above all else. The right will come off in its own time. I know its frustrating - we have all struggled with the "hurry up and wait" of weight loss - but truly, this is a marathon not a sprint. Stick to your plan and give it time.
  12. Do you mind sharing the Dr name with me? That knew how to fix the issue you had in the Er. My messages are open. I'm having so many issues as well and only 9 weeks post op. Been having issues since week 1 po and it's mentally draining. You're the first person to mention about thing's twisting. I have this as well my stomach twisted after being sleeved. Along with vomiting acid reflux and two surgeries so far and counting smh. I don't want to keep getting cut. I want this issue fixed. I have been on a liquid diet for 2 months never advanced to any stage as of yet ☹️
  13. I am 1 day behind you, 5 weeks post op today! I start soft foods today, after 4 weeks full liquid and 1 week puree. I'm looking forward to salmon tonight with some roasted veggies! My dietician said to get in a protein shake so I have 30 g to start, and while the rest of my protein should come from food, the focus should be on paying attention to my body's cues, eating slowly, chewing, and stopping when I am full, vs tracking and measuring. I was surprised, I've heard others say to always measure, but it made sense... at this stage. Stop when I am full, vs a measured amount that may be too much or not enough. Also getting into the pattern of scheduled meals vs the all day sipping. Puree'd foods I am able to eat quite a bit. I am not enjoying coffee like I used to (yes, I'm allowed coffee) but struggle without caffeine so I start my day with the Cafe Latte Premier Protein shake. I'm curious too as to what others find they no longer like.

    Any April Surgery Dates?

One week left for me. I’ve struggled a little with the pre-op diet the last couple of days, mostly because I can’t stomach (still) protein shakes so I’m mostly eating yogurt, one egg and bone broth. I did cheat yesterday (I was soooo hungry) and now feel really guilty. Ugh.

    Feeling frustrated and demoralized

It’s so soon after surgery that you are surely still feeling the effects of fluid retention and inflammation. Also weight loss will be the easiest the the first 12 months post op (not the first 3 days) so don’t lose hope. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/weight-gain-after-surgery https://www.stylecraze.com/articles/main-reasons-for-weight-gain-after-surgery/ https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5389231/
  16. Here is my story. I spent years stuck at 210 (I am 5’2) and thousands of dollars on personal trainers, nutritionists etc. watched and recorded everything I ate to no avail and of coarse the only scale movement would be I ate a cookie and gained two pounds. Meanwhile I began collecting every co morbidity - sleep apnea, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes , sever scaring on my liver. After two seperate per ate unsuccessful medically supervised diets I was advised gastric bypass was my best bet. I lot 10 lbs in the lead up (5 days a week of boot camp and strength training and keto diet). I lost another 20 lbs on the per-op liquid diet. Had surgery on March 29th. Lost 5 lbs in the first two days and have had no movement since. Walking 3 times a day at 30 minutes each. Drinking 70 oz of water and at least 90 g of protein plus all of the supplements. I know there is a three week stall but I am on a 3 day stall (at the time when weight loss is suppose to be the easiest). This was my last hope and I am starting to feel hopeless.

    New Here - 1 week post-op

Congratulations on your surgery & your recovery so far. You’ll find you won’t be able to consume as much purées as liquids. Liquids go through your tummy much more quickly. With purées your tummy will fill more quickly as what you’ve eaten hasn’t passed through as quickly & is still in your tummy. It’s the same but more so as your food becomes more solid & dense & takes longer to digest. Remember also that many nerves were cut during the surgery & messages about being full or having enough don’t get through at all or the signals are different. In the beginning this is important so you don’t overeat eat or drink & stress & strain your healing tummy (think of all those sutures & staples) holding your tummy together. Later it’s so we better understand when we’ve eaten enough to satisfy our needs & we don’t overeat. Full signals, even when working properly, take a long time to get through which is why we’re advised to always eat (& drink) slowly. Plans are different but it’s worth asking your surgeon & dietician about how much you should be eating & drinking over what time frames. Personally I’d think drinking half your daily fluid intake in 3 or so hours is probably pushing to hard. Remember have a sip & leave about 5 minutes before the next sip. Same with when you start to eat: small bites (like a nibble) & wait before the next. In time you’ll be able to drink more than a sip & eat more than a part teaspoon.
  18. May be have a chat with your dietician & see if they have any ideas. Stalls are your body’s response to the stress of your weight loss & adjusting to the changes. I wonder if doing short fasts, increasing/decreasing calories & changing calorie sources may be adding to the stress. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve read that stalls are an important part of weight loss as they allow your body to reset your hunger hormones & metabolism to what you need at a lower weight.

    Stalles

Stalls happen. You just have to stick to your plan & wait them out for the 1-3 weeks they usually last. It will break when your body is ready. Not sure how much you were hoping to lose but you could be in maintenance or just experiencing the extremely slow weight loss many of us face when we’re almost at our final weight. Congrats on your weight loss. 91lbs is amazing.

    BPD/DS

My wife is coming up on 18 years out on her DS, but can't offer any real advice on the preop diet as we didn't have one. The best general advice on the shakes is to try several ahead of time (some manufacturers/retailers have sample packs of different varieties that you can get to try). Try both the RTD (ready to drink) and mixes as suits your needs, but there is more variety in the mixes. Generally, 100% whey isolate is preferred to the cheaper whey blends or concentrates as it is better absorbed (and also more expensive...) and is also better tolerated by those who are or develop lactose intolerance as the lactose is filtered out in the processing. But if a blend or concentrate fits your tastes better, one that you will drink is preferred over one that just sits on your shelf. An additional option is unflavored powder (though there is no such thing as one without taste...) and flavor it with one of the sugar free flavor syrups that are available. Also, when just to complicate things further, when/if you hit on one that you like, don't load up on too much of it, as your tastes may change post op (or they may not...) Good luck in getting through this - lots of changes in these next few weeks pre and post op, but things settle out over time.

I’m sorry I meant to say I saw your profile lol. Wow 8 months in! I’m so happy for you! You’re a strong woman. It’s so hard and it’s just my first day lol. Any advice you can give me? Did you have to go through the same preop diet? I know everyone is different. Mine is strict liquids for two weeks 😥

    MY ESG Journey

I had my ESG at Dr Batash's office on 23rd! I agree he is very charming haha. My nurse advised against blending my own food for puree, so wonder what was up with that..? How are you doing energy wise? I pretty much slept the next 3 days and still have very low energy. I've lost 10 pounds though which is insane to me!

Thanks! It's crazy to think I had surgery 8 months ago, seems like a week the time has gone by so quickly. Wearing clothes you want instead of what you have to is such an amazing feeling. You'll get there before ya know it!
