Hungry right after sleeve
WInston223322 replied to Kristen925's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you sure your hungry? Or is it Head Hunger or Acid Reflux Try this trick and I agree with above .....DO NOT RUSH TO SOLID FOODS! Make yourself a good broth about 10 oz sip that over two hours. Make sure its a homemade or good broth, Not wallmart Chicken broth! I prefer to make my own. Start with a vegetable broth - Just google it easy to make. Also cut out 10% of the water they say to use. That will for sure stop any hunger pains, if you have them You will learn to love broth and soup during this phase, As you heal it tastes good and is great for you -
Pre-Op Liquids Only. I am SO HUNGRY!!!!
PlanetHopper replied to pmh22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was really bad. I started to have second thoughts about getting the surgery. I sat in the hospital parking lot for 10 minutes or more. I dont regret going through with it. It was a great decision. -
Heya, I am new here. I just had mine done one 5/21, so I am 9 days out (almost 10). My worst days were the day after I came home from the hospital.... and then the next day, so days 3 & 4. I gets easier after that. But boy is the pain a shocker when you get home and no longer get morphine every 2 hours. I didn't have issues with gas... just bad constipation, which luckily I found help for on this site.. after days of horrible constipation where my waste was RIGHT at the end of my colon but just would not come out (gross, I know.. I am sorry) --- I finally read on this site about people taking miralax and that worked well for me, i got scared when someone posted they had to go to the hospital because of an impacted colon, Just take it easy. We will slowly get stronger.. Congrats on your surgery!

Obsessing about Plastic Surgery!!
Darktowerdream replied to ChubRub's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
That’s awesome! Mine is inching ever closer. It’s hard to think with all the doctor appointments I had to cram in beforehand that were delayed for so long due to Covid-19. I’m overthinking and under thinking at the same time. And likely not focusing on the right things either, I’m sure you are excited knowing that you will have this when you reach your goal. It doesn’t hurt to plan ahead me and planning don’t get along very well. I jumped in I kind of just exist in the moment I’m in ... -

I have my five-year anniversary in four days!! doing well. Initially got down to into the 130s but gained 15-20 lbs in year 3 (10 of which I was OK with - with my large frame and musculature, 130s was too light for me). I stabilized at 150 for a couple of years, but last fall I was abroad for a month, then came back in time of the holidays, and then the pandemic hit, so I managed to get up to 160. I'm working on getting back down to 150 as that's where I feel best. It's happening but S-L-O-W going. Who knew how hard it would be to lose a measly 10 lbs? anyway, overall it's been a great success and I'd do it over again 1000 times... Shouldn't have waited so long to take the plunge!

Since I'm about 10 days away from a bypass I'd love to hear from the Veteran Bypassers but of course Sleevers too as I know it's not THAT different. I think what keeps me awake at night is the LOSS of the joy I receive celebrating with food or splurging as a Foodie with my husband (naturally trim) or the joy of treats with my children. I don't need the speech about finding joy in other things. I get that. And I know food has been an anchor to me for many years now. A burden. But I do also get great joy from it. From looking forward to it. Even during my years of temporarily successful Weight Watchers attempts I could save points for a big treat on the weekend and felt great joy in looking forward to that bowl of ice cream or fried chicken and potatoes. In fact, it's the first thing my physician-husband (who recommends WLS to his patients) said to me when I told him I was considering the surgery ... "But... food makes you happy." So... I guess I'd like to hear from those who have found a way to still find JOY in their food. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

update on 10 years out regain, and weight loss
MSWDiet replied to BriarRose's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Congrats to you! The key to managing weight gain is staying alert to it and having a workable plan. Seems like you have this in hand. I'm also 10+ years out and living through the ups and downs. My salvation has been shopping with a tape measure to ensure I never buy a larger size. Vanity also helps. I prefer the best quality I can afford over quantity. When the pounds pile on I cringe in the mirror and deal with it. Looking like all hell is breaking loose and having limited use of my wardrobe is motivating. -
Good luck to the Class of June 2020. I had mine in July 2019 and it was the best decision I've ever made! I was almost 73 at the time and now 100 pounds down, no C-Pap, and knees are all better. Just go into this with an open heart, and I approached it as if my life depended on this, which it did and never looked back. Good luck on your journey.

I was trying to remember a few details on my weight loss timeline so I started reading my old posts. I had such fun reading it, A handful of posters are still active here from when I started and have really been a source of encouragement and support for me. I honestly don’t think I would have been as successful if I hadn’t jumped in and started posting. So thank you all, It’s comforting to log on and recognize people and meet new people. The people that are no longer posting were also a huge help, I hope they are all doing well. I tend to check the same threads when I log on so I probably miss a lot of what’s going on! It is kind of like having a journal, I’m so glad I kept active. If you are a newer poster stick with it, it really helps. I also had a good laugh reading through old threads! I kind of miss the monthly challenges that @GreenTealael used to host. If anyone feels up to it post any old posts, I found it very therapeutic and fun. Ps. @sillykitty I forgot you got me hooked on statement necklaces! I was a lurker on this forum for months before I posted. Here is my first post, March 29, 2019:

Coronavirus / COVID - 19
DaisyChainOz replied to JessLess's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi Lisa, When you wrote that in March yes it was the end of our Summer and we did not shut down as a country until around the 22nd of March...I was stood down from my job along with most of the country on the 31st of March. I am not quite sure what constitutes "walloped" where you are, but just to clarify, we in Australia have had a very lucky and "best case" scenario when it comes to Covid, whilst the lock down has been difficult and economically challenging, our death rate had been truly astounding considering that we travel the world a lot and have a very large international tourism industry. As of today May 30, we have only lost 103 people due to Covid-19 and only 7,200 total cases in the country since the pandemic hit, currently there are only 2 people on ventilators due to Covid in the whole country. We have moved from level 4 lockdown and are at level 2 or even 1 in some states now and the country is starting to return to normal, although travel especially any international travel to or from will be off the cards for a long time I think. Was it due to the fact it hit in Summer?... The distance we are from the rest of the world?.. Quick, decisive and thorough lock down as soon as the scale of the problem was identified? or Just sheer good luck? No doubt analyists will be studying, conjecting and analysing for years to come. I hope and pray the rest of the world can get some better outcomes from this in the very near future, the death rate has been truly appalling in so many developed nations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COVID-19_pandemic_by_country_and_territory -

Thank you for the birthday wishes. We decided to risk it and venture out for dinner tonight. A favorite local restaurant with outdoor seating with Bobby and our fashionable masks... I need a BREAK after 10 weeks! Even with take-out your still cleaning up dishes. So yay!!! no prep or dishes tonight. By the way, it is 4 tablespoons (not 6) for above posted chia seeds and it did need just a little honey or maple syrup. Here is the banana peanut butter chia now setting. I'll let you know how it tastes. So easy in the bullet. -
My surgery is scheduled June 17th. I started my pre op surgery diet on the June 3rd. I have lost 40 lbs since my journey started in Aug 2019. I heard about people grieving food and I am starting to feel sad about the some of the food (maybe the amount) I can not have after surgery. What are your thoughts? Did you experience a food funeral?

MAY-JUNE-JULY 2020 BYPASSERS UNITE!! Veterans Welcome too!
Dave In Houston replied to MaybeMeow's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am age 66, male. At 5' 10", I weighed 271 on January 1 and 253 this morning. I just got an email from my surgeon's assistant saying I need to make my final appointment. Apparently I can meet with the surgeon and then go over to the anesthesia center for blood work and an EKG. I believe we'll also schedule the surgery at that time. I called him back immediately, but he's already gone for the day. But it looks like very shortly I'll also have to figure out how to entire my statistics for this site. Before I'm all new, though, I may need a hip replacement. This getting old is not for the faint of heart, I'm telling you! Dave -
Food Before and After Photos

Did the weekly inventory of the stuff in the fridge and determined I needed to use up some wonton wrappers, a couple stalks of green onions and what was left of a tub of cream cheese. Sooo....made Spicy Cream Cheese & Green Onion Fried Wontons! Also made a dipping sauce with Tamari, sesame oil, sriracha & a touch of honey (its in that stainless steel bowl in the background) These are terribly addictive, as evidenced that they where gone in like 10 minutes. But I did manage to eat one before they all disappeared. 1 wonton (without sauce): 66 cals -

I had VSG on 5/18. My insurance required a 6 month program prior to surgery, then I was delayed 2 more months with COVID-19. I lost quite a bit -73 lbs- pre-op (48y male, 6' 2", HW 382, SW 309, CW 301). Surgery went well. Surgery day was rough with gas pain, but discharged by 2pm day after surgery and feeling good now. I walked about a mile a day from day 2-5. Since day 5, I have walked 2 miles per day and do some resistance band training every other day. I lost about 8 lbs in the first week, but have been stalled for the last 4 days. Since day 4, I have been averaging 400-500 calories daily with 70-80g protein, ~30g carbs, almost no fat. Most carbs are from milk with the protein shakes or light fruit juice. I am getting in my hydration with non-milk liquids at ~70oz/day. Still on a liquid diet until 2 weeks post-op. Is my pre-op weight loss slowing me down, or is this normal? A little frustrated as I thought this would be the time weight would just fall off.

Anyone here from Sentara Comp WLS?
TheMoxieMama posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi all, I'm pre-op for VSG. My whole process was way-laid by COVID-19, like so many of us. But now things are moving along; but no surgery date yet. Anyone here from Sentara Comp WLS in Hampton Roads, VA? -
Hey there, I did. I was approved and has VSG on 12/9/19. Are you going through a military bariatric program or a civilian bariatric program? I believe this may make a huge difference. I moved away to a different state and no longer see my surgeon for follow ups. I see a medical assistant from a bariatric program run by the military hospital. I am sure that if I would have moved here before the surgery, the program would not have allowed me to do it. My comorbidities were major depressive disorder and chronic back pain.
