Its Hard And Discouraging
sark87 replied to P.chan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Maybe you should see a nutritionist? Something I've been told to stop doing is drinking with meals (but it's hard for me to quit). Also sometimes when I hit a plateau with my weight, I'm sometimes told I may need another fill in my band. But it sounds like yours is about as full it can get. What are you eating? Exercise always helps, too. Hope your weight starts going back down. -
This my 14th day post sleeve surgery and the first day I am feeling kind of energized, its almost mind bending how fast the weight is dropping. There are a few things like minor hiccups, incision itches, and not tolerating chewable Vitamins. So far, all else is well. I can't believed how much money I am saving of food, will be saving on medicine also. Lash

1 month Post-Op with 35 lbs. lost.
Husky2Healthy posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I am down 35 lbs. from 1 week liquid diet to toady my 4 weeks post-op. I believe this is called the Honeymoon period. I am glad for the loss, but I don't think I want to lose this much next month also. That would make me more than half way to my goal weight loss in 2 months. I am expecting to stall out a bit or gain a bit once I start my soft solids on July 1st. Is this what most experienced sleevers experienced? When did your honeymoon period end, and why do you think it ended? -
4th day after sleeved,,I can't hardly drink
myezzence posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello all, I was sleeved on July 12,so this is my 4th day. I can honestly say I have no comments yet about my sleeve, because I had great amounts of nausea, gas and dehydration so severe they attempted to find a vein in my arms, hands, feet and lastly my neck. This took place during my hospital stay and after being sleeved. During my 1 week pre op diet, I lost 16 lbs, however I ended up gaining all back due to my IV..so it was nothing but Water weight. I started off desiring the lap band, but I heard about all of the complications, and switched to the gastric sleeve. My doctor informed me, that he made it very small..and I believe it. just drinking 1 oz of water , feels like I went to a buffet and pigged out. I hope it gets better because I don't want to be dehydrated again. I know my weight loss will be a guarantee with this type of restriction, and I have noooo hunger nor desire for food since Tuesday ..4 days ago. Today I will attempt a Protein drink, and see what happens. I do notice a change with my stomach, crystal light pink lemonade gives me alot of gas pain, but it wasn't like that before and my drink can't be icy cold but luke warm. Cold drinks give me stomach spasms...but not painful. I'm still painfree yayyyyyy...so far since my sleeve date ...I have lost 10 lbs in 4 days. So I am excited about my new beginnings once my healing process is over. Does anyone have the same problem or did before and what did you use for gas. My pepcid does ok, gas x ok..??? Sheri -
46lbs in 4 months is great weight loss. What Tiff said is the best way to go about it. Getting your protein in via food is much better for you than the shakes. Congratulations on your weight loss to date!

My First Year with Miss Pearlie (my band) 1 Yr Bandiversary!
PrettyThick1 posted a topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Me and Miss Pearlie have become such a good team. It took us some time, but we finally know each other very well and have a wonderful relationship with each other. I treat her right and she keeps me in check, so I guess you could call her my BFF now. Our friendship started off kind of rocky, I mean the day after I got her I really wondered what the hell I was thinking and wishing I could rip her out of my body on my own! It was torture. She was all up in there squeezing things that hadn't been squeezed before, making me hate the sight, smell and thought of food, she didn't want me to sleep, half the time I didn't want to drink either. I hated her @$$ and wished we'd never met! Little did I know, she was just making herself at home and once she got settled we were both very comfortable. Miss Pearlie has given me quite a few surprises along the way. I mean, this girl can be a TRIP sometimes!!! She hates extreme cold, she hates extreme heat, one day she likes a food, the next she's going to hurl it back at me...I really had to figure this chick out and she's a mystery woman who doesn't reveal her secrets without a LOT of begging and pleading. Diva? No, try b!tch...but how many things are one dimensional in life? Along with her Voodoo Queen moments, Pearlie can be an angel, too! She is nice enough to let me know what she won't tolerate BEFORE I even eat it now and she's constantly looking out for my best interest while giving me amazing weight loss results. The proof is in the numbers, she has me below my personal goal and I'm still losing. She's a sweetheart for the most part and I'm so grateful for the day we met. I wish I had kissed her before she went in, had I known how wonderful of a friend she would be I would have demanded to do so. She deserves it. -
Hungry at night
728newlife replied to amanda_leigh78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are not alone!! I have been a night eater for as long as I can remember. That was one of the main reasons as to why I couldn't lose weight in the first place. Once I had surgery about 3 1/2 months ago all of my cravings stopped because my body completely changed how it craved food. Well once I started eating "real foods" again, it was game over lol. I work second shift so breakfast isn't until 11am lunch around 3pm and dinner, anywhere from 9-1am!!! I did this for quite awhile and realized I wasn't losing weight. After two weeks I decided it was time to switch it up. I started eating a protein bar for breakfast after the gym at 9am then I would snack all day long! Veggies, peanuts, a salad, etc. Then I would eat a decent dinner around 7:30 at work then when I get home from work at 11pm I will munch on chips and salsa. I started losing again thankfully. Just remember to eat small meals all day long to keep your metabolism up and you shouldn't crave as much at night! Good luck -

XGRL I am now finished with the supervised diet. I have seen my pcp for the last 6 months but refused my weight back in January when I seen him so I thought I would have to go again in July to be weighed. he told me we could count January because I know what I weighed because of eight Watchers!!!!!! So today the surgeons office called me and told me they have everything they needed except 1 form my pcp still needed to fax and then we would be submitting to insurance. I am so excited and nervous about getting approved/denied. I am reallly hoping I am approved. I have a BMI of 46.2, GERD/acid reflux, sleep apnea and ache knees. Crossing my fingers and every thing else. I am starting to look like a pretzel here. Good luck on the acid reflux and asthma. I know how rough they can both be. I have the reflux but my sister has the asthma. She is really limited to what she can and can't do because of it. The reflux sure does play heck on the teeth but your right....what about the esophagus?!?! Anyway.....keep us posted on what is going on. I will post as soon as I hear the decission. PRAY real hard for me!!!!!

thanks tiff. my bf is refusing to help pay for it because he keeps asking about our future kids and all the other stuff that comes with it. but at this point i don't know what to do. he suggested this weightloss clinic that has a support group and what not and try that first. he agreed by august if there no change or major weightgain is speedy in sight we will get the ds. so i guess i can agree with that. lol and i really don't wan the lines from stress. i feel better these are feelings i was just holding in and it nice to share them out loud and not get bash for it! i had lab work done and everyhting was fine my b12 was 2000 go fig but other then that i was told everything is fine. i could deal if this was astall but i didn't think you gain weight with stalls right you just stay the same weight? i donn't bu i will try to have a less stressful day today.((hugs)) xoxo, nikki -
Dr. F. Garcia/Ready 4a Change
Threetimesacharm replied to Johnatwi's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Had surgery September 10th 2012 and reached my goal weight on February 24th I have lost 78.2 pounds. Dr Garcia is an amazingly skilled surgeon and I highly recommend him. They don't care for you at the hotel but do come to see you. I had no gas pains and was up walking all night right after surgery. The nurses too are great as well as the co-ordinators. They do three leak tests: one during surgery and two after. There is no ugly or bad only good.Don't worry you will be fine and on your way to the losers bench. -

So, I was sleeved on august 13th 2012... I lost 20 lbs pre op, and 14lbs the first week post op. I have stuck to this new way of eating. I've completely changed my eating habits. I have yet to get in my full amount of water, or protein, but I think if I focused more on that, I may be able to.. It doesn't really cross my mind much that I am thirsty, or need to drink, drink, drink lol. I still get that hungry feeling, but there are times when it takes me hours to feel it. There are other times where I feel hungry an hour or two after eating. I am on soft/regular foods, and have been eating things like chicken, cottage cheese, scrambled egg substitute, lowfat string cheese, Greek yogurt, etc. after my first week, I hit a stall.. which I've read is normal bc you're body is adjusting. This lasted 2-3 weeks, until the other day when I noticed I was down another 2-3 lbs, and then another .5-1lb. I can take more than a "SIP" of water, I have had a popsicle with sugar, (I use sugar substitute now) nothing I've ate has made me sick, or throw up. I have not had ANY problems... is this normal? I know everyone's experience is different, and although I was a little worried if I was actually sleeved... I know I have to be bc I eat much less, I have lost weight (first week) I'm just wondering if im doing something wrong? has anyone else had an experience like this? any tips? :/

The scar tissue MAY be all you need, if it is well-formed.I would seriously consider working with what you have right now. You can always have a sleeve later. There have been people that have had their bands removed before, and have been able to maintain their weight loss. It IS doable. If your experience with the band has "taught" you and you have changed your eating habits enough, then you might be ok. Just continue eating as you have with the band. Do NOT use your band loss as an excuse to change your eating habits. You have to be vigilant about it. Just move forward, and eat as though you have the band and see what happens.

Just got home... Pain isn't too bad...
FINFAN3DP replied to FINFAN3DP's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think the gas pains are all gone now. Really, i think it might not have been gas that was causing pain, but rather my diaphram from being blown up. I feel pretty good right now, had an oxy about an hour ago, and have started drinking my Protein 2.0 water. I can tolerate little sips, but nothing more. May wait till tomorrow to try yogurt or pudding. All in all, the Hernia pain seems more than the sleeve pain. Standing up or sitting down takes a lot as it is very painful. But, i'm doing it. Taking small walks downstairs or just down the hallway. Excited to see the weight shedding. I gained 10lbs in the hospital, and have already lost 3lbs from peein. The stomach needles for the blood thinner isn't as bad as I thought they would be. Thanks to everyone for their support on this site. -

Carnie Wilson Had Lap Band Surgery.....
Violet953 replied to Yve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow see I didn't know that it was common for ppl to gain it back so much...my mom had gastric bypass and did great with it...she's kept over 100 pounds off for over 11 years...she weighs around 130 now...first she lost 100 in the first 7 months, then years later lost another 20-30 pounds..in fact this year she started loosing a bit more! She's never once gained back a significant amount. She still can only eat a tiny bit after all these years...so that's just crazy to me that you guys went through so much only to gain it all back in a few years...its terrible! I really hope the lapband works for you! -

54Shirley replied to Yve's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She gained it back after she had a child. I bought 3 of her cookbooks, and they are really good ! She should have better success with the band though, only now because she has 2 procedures going on for her. So I wish her the best of luck. Someone should contact her, and tell her to join lapbandtalk.com Would be interesting in talking to her. -

I read her book she wrote after her bypass surgery. I am not a fan of hers but I was thinking about that proceedure and wanted to know how it felt from someone who did it. I do not think she was thinking it was a majic wand or a quick fix. She followed the rules very well for a long time and lost a huge amount of weight. However, she spoke alot about how she had a huge amount of feelings come up that she use to cope with food to deal with. She started smoking pot for a while and went to a counselor weekly for a year. I think she just has so much personal issues that she looks for anything to self comfort and food is her favorite. I think her deep down self issues ande self view is very very poor. She has major issues. Hopefully she has delt with them better this time before surgury. Best of luck for her. -
Husband is stressing me out pre-op
momof3_angels posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Vent warning! So, yesterday I worked my last shift at work, I have the weekend and the holiday off normally, then Tuesday I am off for another doctors appointment (unrelated). Surgery is Wednesday. I am ready. A little nervous, but mostly excited and anxious to get this done. Hubby is home for his normal day off. All he is doing is giving me crap about the unnecessary surgery and how I can lose all the weight if I just diet more and walk at least 5 miles a day. He conveniently has forgotten that I gained all the weight when I hit 40 and was doing EVERYTHING RIGHT! Including also walking EVERYWHERE. He also conveniently forgets all my failed diet and exercise attempts and how my health has been steadily going down hill with the weight gain. Or how many times he has helped to sabotage me. He is TRYING to be supportive, but he is berating and mocking me at every chance he gets. I know this is his stress talking. He is so afraid of surgery and he thinks of this as an elective/unnecessary procedure. HIS surgeries have complications. Mine are always fine thus far. I see it as a necessary procedure to help me regain my health. Anyhow... he was awful this morning. I finally got angry and nearly broke down in tears. When that happened he finally got his **** together and said he is supporting me. If he wasn't supporting me he would now have gotten time off of work to help me or drive me to/from the hospital. But that doesn't change what a jerk he is being. Just so frustrated! And of course, time feels slower now that I am so close. Need to move the clock forward. I desperately want to get past the surgery so he can stop freaking out and I can start recovering!
