2 Week Post Op Dr Appt Tomorrow!
Michelle Wolfe replied to kimmy*custis's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my two week post op today, and got to have scrambled eggs and it was wonderful! I am also down 16 lbs! -
It definitely gets better! I was nauseous and vomiting 1st day post op as well. I received anti-nausea meds via IV and also had a scopolamine patch placed behind my ear and that helped a lot. 2nd day is a bit easier. 3rd day is best. My doc gave me anti-nausea meds for home as well..i only took one as a precaution the day after I got home and have been fine since (2 weeks post-op now). Hang in there!

We obviously got different instructions. I am allowed only clear liquids, including broth and Jello, for the first week. I can't try thicker stuff till next week. How you feeling this morning? I had a good sleep and the only pain I feel is like I have done a big ab workout. Definitely feel like I'm on the mend! It's funny how different surgeons have different instructions! My surgeon just said see what you can handle...he said juices, broth or creamed soup, yoghurt drinks and custards for 1 - 10 days. I'm not sure what happens after that as I'm meeting the nutritionist today and she will explain.

Thank you so much for your comment!! The only thing I had taken prior to surgery was ibuprofen, which except for like 2 weeks prior to surgery I was taking it almost every day due to severe knee pain. So maybe it is still trying to get out of my system. Who knows?? I've never slept very well at all. Although I am sleeping some better since surgery. I just hope the bad dreams stop soon! Thanks again!

I am feeling very tired too. Surgery was Nov 9th. I think it's catching up with reduced calories, not enough fluids, low carb and not a lot of real healthy nutrients (just protein). Also, it could be the winter weather and lack of sunshine. I felt like I've been fortunate not feeling real tired for the first 5 weeks but now it's hitting me. I think it's normal. Try getting more fluids. Dehydration causes fatigue too. Hang in there! You are not alone Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

2mo post op stalled? Help!
nienie replied to sapperwife26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well you have lost 41 pounds I think that is awesome. That is about five pounds a week. Steroids can have effects on your body along with being stressed but it shouldn't be forever so just keep working on things. You are also below 200 so it might start coming off more slowly. Just make sure you are getting all your water and protein. You have done great so far don't stress yet.. I would cut the toast out but that is me or maybe just have toast 2 times a week instead of daily. -
2mo post op stalled? Help!
music1618 replied to sapperwife26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are at a stall, but don't panic! I lost the most inches during stalls. As for the steroids I would consider myself an expert. They are the reason I had the surgery. I have rheumatoid arthritis and have been on them for 6 years. My dosage has decreased since the surgery. I was on 20mg a day and I am down to 2.5 a day. A shot of steroids will not make you gain weight. You have the potential to gain some if they put you Ina dosage pack, but you gain the weight because you are hungry on steroids. Before the surgery I would wake up at 3 in the morning and felt like I had never eaten. When in fact I had eaten just before bed. With the surgery I am never hungry, and I don't snack unless I am hungry. So take a deep breath and know that the stall will break and this is all part of the process. A few months from now you will read a post like this and smile knowing that you got through it an offer the new person words of encouragement. As for you stress find something to help relieve that stress as stress can cause so many problems on our bodies. -

Anyone Else Have Back Pains After Surgery?
MinaT replied to justthenorm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have back pains that I did not have prior to surgery and I'm two weeks out. I do not sleep on my back normally, and I attribute this to part of my probably, also you may walk more guarded or a little more hunched since surgery, so you are guarding your stomach more which is also putting more pressure on your back. Also, as you lay on the table and they work on you, you don't really realize how much pressure is used, how you are manipulated during surgery to put your gown on and off, and all of this contributes to the back pain. Lastly, gas can cause more back pain. I have been sleeping with ice packs on my back and each time I use restroom I change them out to a fresh ice pack. It has helped. It's getting better as time passes. I have a new thing both my shoulders are sore now (not gas pain sore anymore) but for some reason, my shoulders are a little more tight than they used to be. -

Lightweights..how Long Before You Really Saw A Big Change?
christin replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 10 weeks out tomorrow and have lost just over 28 lbs. I started in a size 18 and can now fit in a 14. I was stalled for 3 weeks and it was during that stall that I started dropping sizes. I am losing slower than I expected, but I am learning to be patient. It is definitely working and the good news is that this time the weight will not ever return. I can tell this will be a permanent solution. -
They can give you continuous bcp to stop you from bleeding. I have had heavy periods all my life and the best decision I made was a hystorectomy about three years ago.

It's funny this came up because I just had my 1 month follow up appointment on 5/16 and at that time, it had been nearly 3 weeks since I went AND I have been on solids since day 8 post-op. I asked my nurse practitioner, because I was starting to feel... just very... heavy, I guess is the best way to describe it. I had all these worries like something was wrong with my bowel, etc... and my NP was very cool about it. She told me not to worry, and also told me to take Miralax. I was also on a Colace pattern to no avail. Finally I just buckled and took a laxative to get stuff moving and boy did it ever! I was emptied out in about 4 hours, heh. Felt very much better! My recommendation would be to use a gentle laxative 1 time to clear you out, then introduce colace/fiber (such as Benefiber which can go in liquid and is tasteless) A liquid laxative like milk of magnesia should do the trick. My feeling is that all the dairy, which is what you need to eat to get your Protein in, causes a backup which even a stool softener can't help. Once you're cleared out and fiber is introduced, hopefully it should keep you going more regularly. Hope that helps!!

Has anyone had an erosion?
AlienBandit replied to BirdGirlEm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is this pain like? I had erosion but we caught it really early. It was 3mm in size and I didn't even really know I had it. How I got to the point of getting an endoscope check was I had acid reflux one night, my tubing hurt ( which can mean infection or erosion) and I had some weird stomach pains sometimes at the top of my stomach. My doc decided right away to check and sure enough there was erosion. I was completely unfilled for 2 weeks and on meds. After 2 weeks we checked my stomach again and it was healing really well ( photo here http://alienbanditinkorea.wordpress.com/2010/02/22/home-from-the-hospital-and-photos/) so my doctor said I had 2 choices. I could have my band removed, wait 3 months and get a new one or he could keep me unfilled and stitch my stomach on the inside and wait for me to heal before giving me a fill. I decided to have my band removed and waited a few months before gettng a different one. I am now 7 months post op my second band and no problems of erosion -
I was banded on June 10 and have all of the above issues. The only one which has not gotten better is the gout. That got worse due to the massive amounts of Protein I was taking. I cut back to 60g a day and have had no further issues. I no longer have to take insulin, byetta, cholesterol medicine, liver medication or synthroid and I only use my bipap about twice a week. I have lost 30lbs since the surgery and a total of 97 since I was diagnosed with the diabetes in Dec. I still take lasix and BP medication but am ready to come off the BP one as my BP sometimes dips a little low. I just don't want to be too hasty. I have gone from 14 pills and 3 injections a day to 4 pills and no injections. My bipap was set at 17/14 and I have been using it for over 6 years. I get another sleep test next month for my dr to evaluate how much it needs to be decreased or if I can even totally do away with it. I have had no problems with the acid reflux but do follow the dietary restrictions very closely. I eat almost everything I want but stay away from the "bad carbs". The lapband had been a true lifesaver for me - it has reinforced my ability to deal with the diabetes and other co-morbidities of my soon to be gone obesity. Oh, I started out at 306 in Nov07, was down to 239 the day of my surgery and am at 209 as of this morning.:thumbup::thumbup:

That's good advice and thanks for the kind words. I think I will start getting on the scale just once a week. It may be difficult to resist the temptation to hop up on it every morning.

Hang in there ! I am pre op but one thing my doctors at the Bariatric Clinic stressed is only weighing 1x per week (hard I know) our bodies can fluctuate 1-5 pounds a day according to their reading material due to water retention. Your body is still healing as surgery is major trauma even though you may feel fine it is recovering. You are doing great just keep it going:)

I have awful heartburn as well. I have had it before and after the surgery. In the last 2 weeks I've started taking Prilosec once a day (just 1 pill) and also one of these Probiotics (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005P0NYFI/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and there is a world of difference. These probiotics are inexpensive and they WORK. I've been heartburn free for 2 weeks now.

...I'm starting to get a little nervous. I took a lot of time and weighed all my options before finally deciding to undergo the sleeve. I know this is the right choice for me. I'm not worried about the surgery. This is more about how I will deal with how quickly I will (or won't) lose the weight, how obsessed I have always been with the scale (I weigh myself no fewer than three times a day), and whether I'll be satisfied with my progress. I have every reason to believe this is the very best thing for me. And I'm excited. I just hope I don't let my head interfere. I've been quietly reading the forums for several months now. Seems like a supportive group of people, I look forward to this journey...and will look her for wisdom along the way.

My vsg/gallbladder removal Surgery
keezawest6 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my vsg/gallbladder surgery on January 10th 2017 @ 2pm. I had a couple complications during surgery which required for me to have a laparoscopic AND open surgery. I woke up from surgery with a pain score of 20+. The pain was so serve that I just wanted to be knocked out the whole time. I was given morphine(the whole hospital stay) which is a pain med I was already on for going on 6 years (chronic back pain/6 slipped disc)but just a little extra(which I was hooked up to a med machine)through my iv. So I followed instructions and walked as much as my body would allow me. I couldn't even sleep in the hospital bed because I was having issues breathing (when laying flat) and I couldn't keep getting in and out of the bed to go potty so I slept in the chair(recliner) that was by my bed. I stayed in the hospital a total of 3 and 1/2 days, with no meds. I feel better everyday(thank god) but now that I am almost two weeks out I'm still having some pain but its way better than before(its around a 6 or 7).... Hey everyone. I wanted to thank each and every one for your continued support with my gastric bypass journey. I am almost 2 weeks out and start the puréed diet next week. My doctor says I can have flaked fish, eggs, and other things. I was wondering what other flaked fish I can have and how did some of you prepare it and what other foods did you have during this diet? I am excited to start trying new things cause soups get tiring after a while. Also, I cannot muster putting things in a blender so I don't think I will be doing that.

7 Months out, 119 pounds lost, 31 more to goal with Pic
mom2five replied to mom2five's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 40. Thanks for saying I look young! I feel like 40 is old, but I don't feel old. I hope my sagging tightens up too... I really don't want to have surgery for it because people say it is really painful. I started working out as soon as the doctor released me for exercise. I do the Leslie Sansone Walk Away the Pounds workout videos. I started with the 1 mile walk and it was hard to finish...now I've worked my way up to 4 miles with jogging and weights included. I exercise 4 to 5 times a week. I really think the exercise sped up my weight loss a lot. I notice that if I take a break, the loss slows down. But, sometimes we all need a break! Congrats on your loss so far! -
