    2 weeks of working out

It seemed like I was so tired all of the time. I have had the band for about 5 months and lost about 50lbs but still lacking energy. The last two weeks I have been going to the gym and spending a minimum of 30 minuts on the tread-mill, and most of the time more. I have not weighed myself for the last two weeks but will do so this week. I do feel much better, less tired and I'm hoping that the increased time at the gym has also encouraged some additional weight loss.
  2. I have to do 6 months med supervised weight loss, Psych eval, cardiac clearance, NUT appt, exercise class, support group and and endoscopy b4 my insurance and surgeon will approve me. I should be done middle of november or so then surgery 2017... From what I have read, every surgeon and insurance is different, so when you go to the Dr for your first appt they will tell you everything you have to do b4 surgery. Congratulations on taking the first step

    Federal blue cross blue sheild

My BC/BS would not cover me at all...the policy states they pay for 2 nutrition classes per year and nothing else toward weight loss. Therefore, next Saturday the 19th, I'm fly to Tijuana, Mexico and surgery is set for that afternoon after my pre-tests. :sneaky: I am excited, but right now on the liver shrinking diet of 40 - 50 carbs (max per day) and high protein, calories do not matter. So far - so good!

    The process

Here's some steps of things I did and I was using Insurance to pay: 1. Schedule and attend free doctor/hospital bariatric program orientation session to learn about their programs, doctors, etc. 2. Usually they give you a packet of information to fill out and mail in to them to see if you are a good candidate for surgery. 3. Check with Insurance company and find out specifically if they Exclude Bariatric Surgery including Adjustable Gastric Lap Banding and/or Gastric Bypass/RNY, etc. and what the qualifications are to get insurance coverage approved. What BMI and what co-morbidities do you have to have to qualify - i.e. sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, etc. being co-morbidity examples. 4. Many of the Insurances will require: Surgeon consultation visit to see if you are a candidate, 5. Cardiac clearance - most of us are overweight enough they want to make sure you are okay. 6. Sleep study/clearance - if you haven't been cleared for sleep apnea 7. Psychological study/clearance - its pretty basic but they want to be sure you are mentally and emotionally ready for this life change. 8. Diet and nutrition counseling - at least 1 pre-op session with the doctor/hospital 9. Primary Care Doctor supervised weight loss effort - as noted in other posts - sometimes 6 months consecutive evidence in the doctors' progress notes - not just that they weighed you but that you discussed weight loss issues. Some get by with 3 months - varies by insurance. 10. Any other 'hoops' to jump through the particular doctor gives you or their bariatric program for that hospital.

    fatnomore just joined

Hi Fatnomore, I have just started looking into Lapband. I was wondering if a self pay would make things go faster. I agree on being tired of dieting and losing only to regain the weight somewhere down the road. My last loss of 69 pounds on Atkins is just about all gained back. I am so tired of the process of losing only to regain the weight. My husband is backing me up but he does say he feels like this is a "cop out" and "the easy way". I try explaining that I have lost and gained weight so many times that I am sick of it. He has never gone on a diet so he doesn't know the frustrations I've been through. Now that I am gulp 60 years old, (wow that was hard to admit) I just want to be healthy and I know it's just a matter of time before the weight will cause me to be sick. I wish you and all the others the best and I will continue to check into this procedure. Kathy

    I worry..

Eagle, You do not owe anything to anyone else but yourself. You had the surgery, you live with the band, no on else does that for you. Slow weight loss is permanent weight loss. I would speak with your surgeon about your concerns, maybe you just need a fill, or maybe some classes with a dietitian to help with your diet. Remember live for yourself not the people around you. Biker

    I worry..

Sometimes I worry that I will let the people down around me after having this surgery. The first 50 pounds came off fast, but now it's starting to come off slower. Even though I do exactly what my doctor says, I worry that the weight loss is going to stop and I'll be back to square one. I just really hope this works like they told me it will work.
  8. Congratulations - you rock! I know I was excited to see the 300's disappear...I have awhile before I hit the 100's, but each new "decade" of weight loss is exciting for me. I can't believe I'll be in the 260's soon!

    Worried it won't work??

I had surgery in March. I'm still struggling with the idea that maybe I made a mistake. I have "only" lost 30# and have gained and lost the same 5 pounds several times over. The most significant weight loss I experienced was during the preop diet and the immediate post up (2 weeks). I am not in denial. I understand that it is not the band's fault that I haven't lost weight. It's still wrapped around the choices I make for what I eat and how I move (or don't as the case may be). I did my research and thought I knew what to expect but the reality is that no one can truly prepare because we are all individuals. My latest fill is the first time I have actually felt any restriction. So I'm hoping that now I will start to feel the way I expected to from the beginning. I'm in no way trying to be negative. I still have hope that this is going to be the answer for me. It's just not happening like I expected it to.

    Insurance Cost

that kind of sounds ignorant. I have insurance I own my own company actually. the money is not an issue, it's the principle. most people do not have weight loss surgery covered unless they work for a company with over 500 employees. and no private insurance plan covers it. to provide some more education if you have a private independent insurance plan you also do not get maternity coverage, the only way to get maternity coverage and prenatal care covered is also through a company with large employee base. it's kind of ridiculous when you consider that I pay 420 dollars a month for insurance, but is just how rules are. maternity coverage is the most frustrating. it doesn't matter what insurance company I pick either, it is statewide it might be a national thing but it's definitely a statewide thing in Texas. My babies will b cash babies also

Why haven't i lost any weight yet.......Just inches!

I did this many times along my journey, which is why I tell everyone to make sure you log not only your weight but your inches. Especially if your excercising, because muscle weighs more than fat...but it will eventually catch up and you will start seeing a loss again. Your whole body is changing during this process. Celebrate all of your successes, not just the ones on the scale but on the measuring tape as well. Your doing great, keep it up and stay strong!!
  14. I wouldn't expect any miracles with the first fill. Most people need 2+ fills to get there. After my 2nd fill, I felt like I had failed yet another weight loss attempt. After my 3rd fill, however, the magic started. My first real meal was about 1/6 of a chicken breast, 1/4 of a baked potato, and a couple bites of green Beans and I was stuffed. Actually, I wouldn't say "stuff" cuz it didn't feel the same as being stuffed, I just knew that if I ate one more bite, I would probly vomit. Be patient. It WILL come. It may take a few fills to feel a difference! Good luck! Marci
  15. I too have PCOS and this is pretty much the for the lapband surgery, obviously for the weight loss as well. I have met the man of my dreams and we are getting married in Nov 2011 and we have discussed having kids. I'm just hoping that I can get my PCOS under control and be able to have kids a few years down the road. I'll be 30 in a few weeks and I can't wait to start a new decade and a new me! Good luck ladies.
  16. Barbie, thanks. I am feeling full quicker and the weight loss is slow but at least it's going down. I know losing more slowly is helping with the skin too. 3rd fill is on 6/27 and I think I'm going to ask for another small one. I just want to get where I'm losing more than 5lbs in four weeks. Im staying with it and journaling every nibble. Had a lot of walking last week for our vacation that has helped me be more active which I know I need more consistently. Ugh, why do I battle making time to exercise. The days go by so fast. Well that's something I need to focus on. Sent from my iPhone using LapBandTalk
  17. I am 9 days post op and as far as hunger I am not hungry at all. I am only eating what's on the diet list. And I haven't lost a pound in like 5 days. I just don't get it. Food in general makes me nauseated most of the time. I eat only because I have no energy. I have a horrible time getting my protein because everything I have tried makes nauseous after the first time. And if I could down it I am might could do it but stupid sipping makes it impossible. I spent more money today to try one I can mix with juice so we will see but I'm pretty frustrated and feel let down right now. Everybody talks about these huge numbers of weightloss in thd first few weeks and its just not happening. I don't get it.
  18. Can I ask what made you go to Mexico and how much did the docter/hopital cost. My daughter just got denied by her insurance company as her employer has a no weight loss surgery clause. I am trying to find other options for her. thanks
  19. After my group meeting to get started with the weight loss program, I quit drinking pop and I started eating like I was supposed to after surgery (paying attention to protein, sugar and fat content). I went to 1 cup of food every 3 hours and ended up losing 51lbs before my surgery!!
  20. Way to go on the weight loss. Are you able to try exercise other than walking? Can you strength train a bit? Or, can you try interval training? I started out by walking for 2 minutes and running for 30 seconds. I have worked up to 1/1 walking/running. Strength training and interval training should boost your metabolism.

    Scared

Most docs and most all bariatric surgeons understand the ups and downs of weight loss. If they don't get it by now, they should find a different profession. If your doc has any compassion or an interest in his patients well-being, he/she will understand your issues and encourage you to get back on the bandwagon. There have been several accounts of some A-hole doctors who think that scolding their patients motivates them. Stupid docs. But, they're in a small minority so go in and expect to be hugged and encouraged!

    Few Questions About Lapband

I have (and work for) Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois. It's horrible that you can't get a rep on the phone to answer your questions. It bugs me to see that kind of customer service. I can't speak for other BCBS since we are all separate entities, but for mine the requirements were a BMI over 40 and the psych testing. BCBS of IL no longer requires 6 months of a weight loss program like Weight Watchers. I had my approval in a few days once the surgeon got everything together and faxed in. I always suggest faxing over mailing, speeds the process up A LOT.
  23. So i had my sleeve on 4/15/16 and lost 27lbs so far, i mean im not really eating much alot of liquids up to this point and have 1 more week on pureed foods...Today when i seen my doctor he said he would have liked to see more of a weight loss and a additional 40lbs come my next appt on 7/14/16....I cant wrap my head around loosing 40lbs in 2months especially that its not liquids anymore now pureed then back to solids.....Is it really possible to loose 40lbs in 2nonths??? I hope i make sense on explaining the issue....Im really stressing over the thoughts of this.... Sent from my SM-N910P using the BariatricPal App

    Need advice pls....

You've done great! I agree with everyone else. Your surgeon sounds like an unprofessional oaf. He should know better than to place unrealistic goals on patients, many of whom have had a lifetime of failed diet attempts. Yes, this the period of maximum weight loss, but its also the time to change your mindset and develop a new relationship with food. If you're trying to conform your eating to meet his arbitrary goal, you'll never change your mindset in the necessary way. My advice, for what it's worth, is to keep doing what your doing and don't let him and his "goal" derail you! Good luck . . . keep going!!!!
  25. Thank you so much! That makes me feel so much better! I did plan on writing a letter explaining my weight loss attempts. :smile2: Unfortunatly, I just don't have a medical paper trail. For a curvy girl, I am active and rarely get sick. I never had any reason for doctor visits. One other question, how did you go about getting your letter of recommendation? Thanks for your help!
