I use plain Greek yogurt, add the pumpkin, spices, and stevia. The nice part about doing this is it doesn't add very many carbs. There is 3 grams to three scoops.

So as WLS patients this time of year can be so so so hard on the ones that LOVE everything pumpkin. But it doesn't have to be! This morning I dug out a can of pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) and added three tablespoons to my protein shake. I also added pumpkin pie seasoning and two stevias. All with two scoops of baritatric advantage vanilla and a cup of almondmilk with 5 ice cubes. Heaven!! I will use the can for making my own Greek yogurt pumpkin as well, same premise! Happy Pumpkin Season everyone!!

How much can you eat?
deannah1966 replied to DropWt4Life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 7/31, so I am almost 5 weeks post-op. I am at the soft food stage. Some things, like Greek yogurt, I can eat almost 4 oz. Meats, "real food" I can eat a few bites, up to 2 oz on lucky days. My NUT wants only 3 meals per day with no snacking, am to fill up with water or protein drinks. I consume maybe 500 cal on good days. Am hoping it gets better. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app -
Best way to Stop Losing Weight
Berry78 replied to Apple1's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Apple.. sounds really good! Adding dried fruit to your salad will be a place to add calories easily. The true caloric superhero is nuts. So many calories bundled up in such a tiny package (and tons of nutrients to boot). When you are running 4 miles, I'd like to see you add an ounce of nuts in addition to your yogurt. I don't know what type you like.. sunflower seeds are wonderful sources of vitamin E. (When I say "nuts" I mean nuts and seeds and peanuts ). Mix them up because each type has very different nutrient profiles. -
Drinking liquids with the sleeve
trying4me replied to Kristen117's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I notice an occasional cramp during drinking. I am 3 days post op. It passes quickly and mostly if I take too big of a sip. I had yogurt today, 1 ounce or medicine cup without symptoms. I am also gassy today, so that may be part of it. Just keep going slowly per recommendations of your surgeon. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Soft foods include yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna with light mayo, creamed soups, mashable vegetables, canned chicken, canned salmon, etc. Basically, soft foods are soft going down. Did your surgeon's office or dietitian or nutritionist give you a pamphlet or handout that listed the allowable soft foods for their bariatric program?

Whos in September? We need some September buddies!
HERrERA replied to janie2024's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good morning everyone, I'm new to the forum. My surgery date is Sept 8th, I'm already started on my pre surgery diet. Nothing but water and yogurt for the next 4 days. -
I think the vanilla is super sweet. I like the chocolate though. I tried a couple different powders and couldn't get them down. The broth and the yogurt are my saving grace right now. HW 307 CW 263 HT 5'5 VSG 9/8/17

if my a1c is high will my doc still operate?
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to angyplus5's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
My surgery was 8-28--I'm currently on full liquids and finding it rather tough. Yesterday I had about an ounce or so of yogurt and that helped a lot. I've been lucky in not having pain really at all. I have not been exercising as I should, either--hope to get out of the apartment today for a while. I was taking 60 units of insulin in the morning and at bedtime, so a LOT. I'm now taking 20 or 30 units, depending on my readings--they've been very good so far. (This morning's blood glucose was 109.) So hang on in there--this surgery will help with that devil diabetes. -

How much can you eat?
Finding_Stacy replied to DropWt4Life's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm around 17 weeks out and eat anywhere from 650-850 calories a day, 20-40 net carbs a day, and can eat 5.5 ounces of something like yogurt, but maybe only 4 ounces of meat. -
Taste changing 3 month post op
GotProlactinoma replied to Lannie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 weeks out and my protein powder sometimes give some me a weird reaction. I still need it, so I tried mixing it with Greek yogurt instead of fluid and it helped. I'm using an expensive plain grassfed whey with no flavor. Just trying to not have a weird low blood sugar nausea reaction. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sleeved 8/28 and had almost no pain. Some gas, but not painful--more uncomfortable or annoying. I've also had no problem with taking pills (haven't crushed them) or drinking the protein shakes. Not getting enough water, though. Would just about kill for something else--I'm thinking I might just go ahead and try a spoonful of yogurt. I'm on full liquids and that's one of them, but the instructions say to do protein shakes the first week and then add the other things . . . I dunno. Maybe I'll be sorry? I have not been exercising (bad me) and I'm kind of depressed because of some other issues--nothing to do with the sleeve, which I still think is a good, good thing I've done. Will feel that even more when I start seeing some weight loss . . . -
I'm on day 2 of liquids. I'm doing 3 premier protein shakes a day, broth, sf jello and tea, my surgeon also wants 6oz of nonfat plain Greek yogurt daily... but I was really hungry today and dragging...I had 3oz of chicken and a hard boiled egg white at dinner

Just cannot eat
Ready4theday replied to PrayingForWeightLoss's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Can you have avocados? Nut butter? Greek yogurt? I've also been having luck with Genepro - it's such a small amount of powder for 30g of protein. It mixes well with nearly everything and has very little taste. -
August Sleevers-How are you doing??
dandelion247 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was sleeved on August 16th. Was able to tolerate liquids and walk a bunch while in the hospital, so they released me after one overnight. Here are my impressions so far: Week 1 -- Hell. Most protein drink formulations contain fake sugars, which I have pretty much hated with a passion since I knew they existed. I hate the flavors and the way my body feels consuming them. So, drinking anything sweet was grating and caused me great resentment. Probably not rational, but I'm giving myself a pass. I also had a bad day about 5 days into recovery -- just crying and feeling terrible for myself all day long. On day 7, I turned a corner and felt better. Gas pains: I was fortunate and never had really bad gas pains. I had them flare up every so often, in my shoulders, but they subsided quickly. Sleeping: I created a weird pillow arrangement in my bed to allow me to sleep on my back with my upper body slightly elevated and my knees slightly bent and feet elevated. I've loved it so much, I'm continuing with it even though I'm healed enough now to sleep on my side. I took the prescribed pain meds for 6 nights after being released, to assist with sleep. After that, I stopped taking pain meds and went back to taking Ambien. Going to the bathroom: Where before I was regular, I am now lucky if I can go twice a week, it seems. Hoping this changes. Apnea: I have sleeve apnea and use a full-face mask. Combine this with not getting quite enough fluids yet, and the dry mouth that is caused is epic. I wake up and my mouth feels like lizard skin. Yuck! Not comfortable. Week 2 -- Slightly less hellish than Week 1. Took walks around the neighborhood. Was fortunately able to stay out of work a full two weeks which helped a lot with stress levels, and I'm sure that assisted with my healing. Week 3 -- I'm in the midst of it, and now I'm on puree foods (big step up from full fluids!). I'm back at work and am cleared for going in the pool. Still feeling mournful over the loss of the ability to just eat whatever my appetite craves, but I know this is for the best. Went and got a mani/pedi today to soothe myself. Trying to find other pleasures to replace excessive gourmet food! I feel a LOT better on purees, because at least now it's real food and not processed protein drinks and protein broths from powder. I was cleared to eat scrambled egg, cottage cheese, yogurt, and any puree concoction high in protein. Water: Still not getting 64 oz. a day. It's a work in progress. Vitamins: Not getting 3 chewables in a day yet. Mostly getting 2 a day. Another work in progress. Protein: Probably getting close to 50g a day, so I think I'm doing well there. -
New Here and Struggling
Geri Marie replied to abj85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi abj85 Glad your here. I'm going to give you some advise on how to lose some weight before your next appt. First- Don't beat yourself up! It didn't take a month or a week to get to where your at, and its going to take some time to change your habits. BUT you CAN DO IT!! So here's some tips my team has taught me... First- Eat 3-4 times a day. Breakfast- eat no later than 30 minutes after you wake. I make my own protein shakes with stevia and almond milk. I use Bariatric Advantage. Chocolate, vanilla and banana are my favorites. For lunch I choose this as my main meal. Try to stay under 50 grams of carbs (For the whole day) I eat cottage cheese, eggs, salmon, cod, chicken. Mediterranean type meals are good. Feta cheese, nuts, etc. For dinner I have another shake. I have a snack like Yogurt, apples with Peanut butter, grapes Don't starve yourself, otherwise your body goes into starvation mode and you wont lose. With the shakes I go to this website www.webstaurantstore.com believe its called. I order sugar free coffee syrups for a good price and make it fun!! I have eggnog shakes, Chai tea flavored shakes, and my latest is butter rum shake! But you can also do unsweetened coconut milk with chocolate and have a mounds shake. I always at two packets of all natural stevia sweetener because I like mine sweet. Become a mixologist! Any help I can give you, dont hesitate to message me. Good luck you can do it! -

How about pimento cheese? It's been a staple for me. I never actually pureed anything. I just had softish food like yogurt, canned chicken, pimento and ricotta cheese and chewed thoroughly. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app -
Diabetic Binge Eater Here
James Marusek replied to drunkmuffin86's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might try refocusing your snacks to healthy alternatives. You might consume whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible. Try A tub of Dannon Oikos Triple Zero yogurt with about a quarter cup of fresh blueberries. It is also important to avoid all forms of processed sugars and remove them from your diet. I was diabetic prior to my RNY gastric bypass surgery and took two types of prescription medicine to control the condition. But even with that medication my diabetes was not being properly controlled. Two days after surgery when I left the hospital I was off all my prescription medicine for this condition and haven't taken any since. I am over 4 years post-op and text by blood sugar about once per month and it is fine. That is how quickly this condition can be corrected by surgery - almost overnight. -
I am three weeks post op and having a hard time with recovering after getting pneumonia 2 days after surgery. I am so tired all the time I have been trying to make myself get up get dressed and do the grocery shopping house chores it's just so hard. I leave the house for two hours get home and sleep three hours. Not sure if it's the pneumonia that has me so tired or the surgery ? I drink my water I have protein shakes and today I started yogurt and puréed fruit. I'm just venting because I hate being so tired. I do have a follow up with the Dr Wednesday the 6th.

I ate it because I couldn't do one more bite of yogurt. I have it occasionally with some cheese. Your calories seem really low. I wouldn't worry about the pb

Is anyone else eating smooth peanut butter to get the hungry edge off? It's the only thing that cuts my hunger. But maybe it's too many calories. I'm eating 1-2tbs the most. Other than that I'm eating 2oz of cottage cheese, hummus, refried beans, sugar free pudding and jello, cream of wheat, homemade puréed veggie soup, and yogurt. My calories are about 200-350 a day. I'm day 11 post op. HW 289 SW 284 CW. 266

I've just started full liquids on day 4 but the suggestion is to just do shakes the first week and then the second week I can introduce other things: no-sugar yogurt, no-sugar pudding, high-protein soup, strained cream soup. I'd guess farina would be the mushy stage at the soonest . . .though it's not listed on my recommendations. The soonest grains are listed is for the maintenance phase!
