Endoscopy Wednesday & I'm Nervous :/
MsWriter replied to Michelle1976's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Has anyone heard from Michelle1976 about the results of the endoscopy? I'm having one tomorrow and am hoping they find erosion in the band. Why am I hoping? Because I was having soreness/pain in my rib cage area all over the upper abdomen. After a clear upper ultrasound and clear pelvic ultrasound which were blessedly clear the next step was to see the gastrointerologist. Last Friday she ordered a CAT scan and found a very small amount of Fluid in my abdomen and an infection. I have been on antibiotics and the pain I was having for a few months in my rib cage area is finally gone. Meanwhile my lapband surgeon was not concerned. He came breezing in saying he'd do an unfill for the endoscopy. He said the CAT shows the band is in place. PLEASE tell me that doesn't mean it couldn't have eroded, right? Honestly! And while he's withdrawing the saline he asked since the lapband has been sucessful in me (I was banded 6/6/06 -- from that date I should have known I'd have trouble, right?) would I like to consider gastric sleeve or some other thing. He was talking about this awful plication procedure and I just looked at him and finally said, you know, I'd like to know I'm healthy first before I worry about my weight right now! I hope it's the band that caused the infection. The Gastrointerologist said the infection was along the path of the tubing. Because I am ready to have this out. She said there was no sign of tumors or masses on the CAT scan (how's that for scaring the life out of you????) she can't guarantee the underlying cause of infection will be the band! So a scary alternative I don't even want to think about! Well, thanks for letting me ask about Michelle and share my scare. -
Surgery Length & Unable To Do Laproscopic?
shedo82773 replied to LaLa Weez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi LaLa Weez I am 5.4 and had mine laparoscopically. I had mine Sep 2, 2013. I had quite a bit of scar tissue so it did take them 45minutes just to get thru it. But all went well. Here are my STATS: HW 249 this time I was up to 285#'s but managed to lose down to the 249 SW 232 LW 117 CW 125 I got to my goal weight in 6 months so I have maintained my loss for 2 and 1/2 years. I hope you get awesome results from your upcoming surgery. -
I'm following my 2 week diet, but I am gaining?
Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My highest weight was 360, I was recently down to 336.0, I was following my diet and my carb intake, but I am gaining? I weight currently 340.2 . Either it is the end of the day, and from all the shake and low carb hot dog (Only two) that I had. My time of month is also coming up. I want my liver to be shrunk in time. I dunno if it is water weight that is creating the stall before surgery or what. I was told by my pcd (Primary care doctor) that my period will probably be on surgery day. Has anybody experienced this problem? Surgery is on the 6th this month. -
I'm following my 2 week diet, but I am gaining?
Daenerys Targaryen replied to Iwanttofitinmyweddingdress's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It doesn't matter how well I stick to a diet or eating the way I'm supposed to post-bypass, it is a given that I am going to gain 3-5 pounds of water weight before my period. So I can totally relate, and hopefully it's just hormonal water weight for you. [emoji4] -
My surgeon was very very very straight forward in that if I gained it would be looked upon poorly, and that if I didn't loose "enough" during pre op diet that they would cancel. I wouldn't worry as much since you are in the pre op, but I would change your habits now. I changed my habits months before my diet began and didn't loose a lot, but it helped tremendously during my pre op diet.

I am scheduled for surgery on October 28. I'm self pay (in US, not in Mexico) and have my second appointment with my surgeon in a few days. The problem is that I have been gorging on food because I feel like I'm saying goodbye to a lifelong friend and habit. I'm so ashamed that I've gained at least 5 pounds and maybe more in a month and feel like the surgeon is going to be upset. Did any of you have any weight gain in the weeks before you started your pre-op diet?

I agree with Bufflehead. I'm 6 years out and I basically eat portions that are considered normal. (Not normal by typical US standards, but normal by nutritional standards). My portions are slightly smaller than my "normal size" friends, due to my restriction, but what I lack in volume I make up in frequency, so at the end of the day I probably take in the same amount. More dramatic than my portion sizes has been the types of food I eat. WAY less non-nutritive carb heavy "wasted calories", and WAY more healthy foods that contain the nutrients my body needs, not the junk my head may want. Yes, I do sometimes indulge in what I consider my "emotional foods", but never to an extent that compromises my health or weight maintenance. You will likely experience a period of severe restriction immediately postop. The portions you eat will be scary small and your parents may freak out. But you will progress past this to a point of being able to eat more than enough to nourish your body. (If you make healthy choices)

Hello fellow sleevers! I just wanted to see how yall are coming along. What are you eating? How about exercise? I'm down 25lbs and I've just started weights and a yoga ball (which is harder than it looks, lol)

Illinois Medicaid
Learningtolive replied to Taylormariie118's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Find a surgeon to talk with them about your options of type of surgery and to discuss the steps with you. Many of the hospitals have days where you go to a seminar about weight loss surgery as well, I know Northwestern has them twice a month or so. Or ask your primary if he knows of a bariatric surgeon to refer to you. -
Unprofessional Or Within Professional Guidelines
GlitteringGoldParodox replied to GlitteringGoldParodox's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only reason Im going to these classes is because its required to get a referral for Bariatric surgery. At that Intro class was the first time I encounter the stigma associated with WLS. After reading so many posts on this forum about I shouldn't be surprise. Even my PCP there seemed against it. He said no, no, no do MOVE, it works. When I just starred at him he then said I have to lose 10 % of my weight first. When actually it's 5%. To avoid encountering more bad attitudes toward WLS Im going to switch to TeleMOVE which is 82 days. Hopefully after I complete the program my pcp will do the referral. I'm just worried that he won't do it. I never thought a doctor would be against WLS. I'll cross that bridge when I get there. -

Can you keep protein shakes down? What does your doctor say? Have you contacted them? Its a fabulous weight loss. You say you are pre op. Are you having a revision due to this problem?

HI, I looked over the topic headings but could not quickly find a matching question. I am 64 years old, soon 65. Since my surgery on September 1, 2021, I have walked or bicycled on a recumbent bike 30-40 minutes almost every day. (I did almost nothing before). Now the cold weather with snow has set in, and the bicycle gets boring. I am looking for suggestions for a good senior training / exercise video, something I can get on DVD. I have some weights. Probably beginner level, but progression would be nice. We are far away from the nearest gym, so I'm hoping to find something I can use at home. I've lost 78 lbs, so I am feeling much better about exercising! Do have knee and balance problems. Thanks!

Similar to what a Weight Watchers instructor always said in class "if you always do what you've always done; you'll always get what you always got."

Woah! Thank goodness for insurance...$25,000

Oh I would 100 percent not be doing this even if my OPM was the full $10,000. There’s no way I could afford it. And while I’ll definitely go to Mexico to get 2 missing teeth implants, I’m too worried to get a big surgery done there. I know it’s worked out really well for a lot of people, but I just couldn’t. Weight Loss Before Surgery and Insurance Coverage
cindyw41 replied to CurvyCooper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told the same thing. My BMI is 39.5 with several medical conditions. I was worried about the 40+ BMI and losing weight before surgery. They go by the first initial weight during your apt with the surgeon. -
Weight Loss Before Surgery and Insurance Coverage
CurvyCooper replied to CurvyCooper's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your reply and experience that's about all I can lose too! It is so crazy to think that you can't lose more weight in fear of being rejected from insurance. All of the testing required and limitations are crazy! How long have you had yours? Love it, like it, or hate it?! -
Its lifelong - most people still need Fluid in their band too to maintain their loss. Whatever you do to lose weight, you have to do forever to keep the weight off. You'd think you'd learn new habits and be able to go it alone past a certain point, but statistically that hasnt proven to be the case.

Advice needed after a complete unfilled due to a slip.
Karad posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
emergency unfill as band had slipped after violet vomiting due to the flu.this was the day before thanksgiving Nov. 26th..weight was 142 today's weight 165.... was told that after you have a complete unfill it will never be the same..kinda like when you brake a seal you can never get it back what it was when first placed. . I had to wait for 6 weeks before I could go back into see how everything was looking... well everything looked great so they added .5 cc into my 10 cc band On January 7th..felt nothing... 3 weeks later January 29th had another fill of 1.5 cc and nothing again.. next time Feb.12th they added 1cc..I can eat a Cow and nothing at all... when I had to have all the Fluid removed I only had 3 cc's....In 5 days it will be 1 year sense I had my lap band placed and loved my new life ,I had lost 65 pounds in total.. I have another fill on March 17th. So here I am almost 1 year to the day and I feel like I am fighting a loosing battle as I still have No Restriction.I am up 23 pounds and climbing no matter what I do the weight just keeps packing on. -
Comparing your weight loss to mine (or anyone else's) is always a mistake and a sure recipe for frustration. We are all individuals and all unique. There are just too many variables to judge your success against someone else's. Just keep following the protocol, stay active, and stay away from the scales for at least a week and two would be even better. You're gonna love the new you!!

I'm 7 weeks post band. My appetite is reduced and I get some restriction but not a lot. For me the restriction is more important. I'm fine at controlling my portions when I'm at home but I eat out a lot mainly for work and that's when I find it difficult. I could easily eat a 3 course meal without any problem. My consultant is reluctant to tighten my band much more than it is. I've had 3 fills and am now at 5mls. He thinks it's good that I can eat out without difficulty but I fell I need that restriction so I feel there is a safety net and a reminder to stop eating! I weighed myself this morning and I had gained a pound, so as an emotional eater that sent me downward into negative thinking, followed by anxiety and naturally chaotic eating. This again is why I need the restriction. I almost need that form of a slap around the face if you know what I mean. I'd really like to hear thoughts from any other emotional eaters with a band and how they are coping with their journey.

four days tops. Then you will be wondering how am I going to drink and eat enough. I am 2 weeks post-op and still can only get in 3-400 cal a day. Unbeliveable isn't it. That was the amount that I ate at a fast food sandwich and then added the fries. I have lost 27 lbs already so it will get better keep your eye on the weight falling off.
