I tend to think ppl are 'focused' on numbers simply b/c they help us gage our progress. They are not the most important thing nor are we just numbers..but they do help us see another part of the picture so to speak. Those NSV really do matter ... you can't put how you feel into a number or all of your success. At the same time dont be so hard on the number crunchers lol
  2. Howdy! School and 4H has kept me so busy - I have to try and remind myself to post here once in awhile! I am so glad to be posting on the "success Stories" forum.... Want to hear of a great NSV (nonscale victory!)? - kids went on a canoe and kayak event with 4H, my eldest didn't have a partner...so I did it! I climbed in both a canoe and kayak - and didn't drown us! I paddled and had a blast! I NEVER would have attempted that at 300 pounds!!! I am continuing to slowly lose weight - I still weigh every morning, and I really shouldn't. I know the long tern will be in a down direction!! I desperatly need to go clothes shopping - my panties are baggy ooops - sorry if TMI! I feel better overall, still struggle to drink what I should.....it's hard. Hope all is well with my other sleeve buddies!!

Hi everyone! I'm still on my self-imposed plateau. I too am eating everything in sight- eating around my band for sure. I was wondering what you all do about breakfast- I do a protein shake in the AM, but then am HUNGRY all morning. I wonder if I skip the protein shake early in the morning (I leave for work around 6:30 and drink it on my way), and just take some cheese and almonds to snack on around 8:30-9 am or something. It seems like I am just so hungry all morning!! I do worry about not getting enough protein in if I give up my shake. I don't know. I do know if I"d just kick this stupid sugar habit (read ice cream) I would be better off. I go through such phases- like I didn't have any ice cream from my surgery date until like 2 months ago, and now it's almost daily. I really can't have it even once a week it seems. I need to give it up, but am not ready to. It's a journey.... I haven't exercised since last Thursday, unless you count walking around the state fair on Saturday. I will be at the Y today for sure! Chrissy- that is awesome about the suits!! And you'll still hit your 100 lb goal, but better to not be so dang stuffed up you can't even drink!! NJ2NC- hope you get to NY and Co! Great NSV for the sweatpants. I think I wore a size 5x sweatpants to my surgery (I could have probably worn 4x but wanted them lose around the waist)- I should try them on now, I"ll be they won't stay up. Nicole- a pants victory for you too!! Yay!! Ready- good for you in your size 14's- 12's are right around the corner! Toning is something I really need to do too. I am also considering another job- I was referred by a former colleague and spoke with the hiring manager yesterday. He had me do the online application and the assessment- which I hate doing, LOL, so stressful. So I got that done last night and we'll see what comes of it. It's still a long commute, but there may be some possibility of working from home, and it's more money which we need. Keep me in your prayers!! Well, everyone have a great day today. It's always a new day to start, right? Nicki

Hi everyone! Looks like there have been some good NSVs! I had to go for a slight infill last week (.2 cc's). The sinus drainage I'd been fighting finally got so bad I couldn't even drink anything. Of course this morning I realized it had been coupled w/PMS. Oh well...it only pushed back my checkup by a week. However...i feel like I'm eating everything in sight.ugh! So..little restriction plus TTOTM cravings equals Chrissylu not hitting that 100 pound goal anytime soon. On the other hand, my sis-n-law gave me four nice suits that are in the 13/14 range. They all fit..yay! Hang in there everyone. I'm sure trying to.

    My Nsv

Wow. Sounds like it all happened so fast. That is an amazing NSV.

    My Nsv

I am not sure how to detail this but looking back I remember how difficult it was to get down on to the floor and tons worse to get back up again, without rolling on to my knees and struggling to get up. My knees would be hurting, my back would be killing me and I hated it and it was embarassing. OK that said here is my NSV~ Last Thursday I was running a group at my work. A patient had a seizure and I had to run over and help hold him into place on his chair so he would not fall on to the floor and hurt himself. Then we had to lower him to the floor and I sat on the ground next to him to reassure him and to check on him while help arrived. I had to hop up undo the straps on the gurney and then grab the backboard, get back down on to the ground, help load him on the backboard and help lift him on to the gurney itself and Strap him him down on the gurney for safety and then he was taken away. When it was all over I realized I was hopping and kneeling and lifting and all of this and I never gave it a second thought!! I never hurt, I never struggled to get up or down or lift him or anything. I was a bit sore the next day, but just in my lower back but dang that was it and it was just a twinge if I paid attention to it. I NEVER could have done all that before surgery. It was amazing to realize I could do that and be fine. I never gave any of this a second thought until later in the day, but then it hit me and I am shocked and so excited over something so small.. How far and how fast things have changed for me.. I love this new me! I am strong and powerful and capable, what beats that?
  9. I have been on here since around February and was sleeved in may. I have probably had many nsv's but my greatest was today. I was getting dressed and couldn't find my jeans in the dryer..I was getting frustrated when I realized I had placed them in my teenagers pile of clothes

    Feel Like I'm A Failure

So here's a reality check......You "only lost 15lbs." Your clothes are falling off...... What is the truth here? I believe it's time for you to throw your scale away, or hide it. You are obsessing over a stupid scale and the numbers on it. You have lost so much weight that your clothes are falling off! That to me is success......An NSV as we call it...... I'd rather have my clothes fall off than worry about the numbers. You are doing great....... The #'s on the scale will go down and you are going to be so pleased with yourself. Yes, you are depressed and it would be highly beneficial to see your doctor and perhaps he can prescribe something to help you with the depression. Not a big deal..... Hang in there and rant away when ever you need to. We are here to help you.

    Weekly Check In

To keep everyone motivated as we begin our new journeys, I thought we could keep up with everyone's stats and other important information weekly. For me my weekly weigh in will be on Monday. Some ideas I thought of were: SW/CW/GW Measurements What stage of diet are you on now? What are you eating NSV New recipes that your are learning with your diet stage I thought these might be fun to get to know about everyone. If anyone is interested in a Facebook group that could work too. If anyone else can think of any others lets add them to the list. Thanks
  14. The theatre in my home town is so old that the seats are tiny and you can't move the arm rests for more room. To get into the seats I would have to squeeze in and it was painful to squeeze past the armrests much less sit comfortably. These seats are so small that my fiancé who is not overweight is not comfortable in the chairs. We went to this theatre yesterday because we didn't have time to get to the bigger theatre before the movie started. Well, I was not only able to get into and out of the chair without rubbing against the armrests I was able to watch the movie semi-comfortably!! Granted I don't think anyone can sit in those chairs comfortably. But I actually had about an inch space on each side of me!! Happy dance!!

    Updates, Dates!

It has been a while since I have been on here regularly and written on here. I haven't even updated my weight for a few weeks. In the past 3 weeks I have gone from 276.8 to 262.6. So I am still losing well, and steadily. I'm down a total of 62.4 pounds now! Holy moly, I can barely believe it. Even though I know I still have a lot to lose left, I feel like an entirely new person. My life has kind of done a 180. I have energy, I have confidence, I feel like I look good when I wear my clothes. It's incredible. I cannot even list all the ways this surgery has changed my life. I have struggled with depression for the entirety of my adult life, and a lot of my late teens/early adulthood, so the level of difference is like night and day. I have had good times before, yes, but I feel like I've come so far in being where and who I want to be. I still have hard times, I still am a horrible procrastinator, but I feel like whatever the day throws at me, I am more ready for than I have ever been. And....I think I have a boyfriend. He hasn't actually called me his girlfriend, but we did have a casual conversation the other day in which we asked if the other was seeing anyone else, and neither of us are, so I guess that makes us exclusive? He invited me to a get together with his coworkers next weekend, so we will see what he introduces me as, or maybe between now and then we'll chat about it. He's really an awesome guy, and we click really well together. Last night we went to a corn maze and walked around for about two hours - something I probably never would have done pre-surgery. He has said that I motivate him to eat better when he's out eating and whatnot. I thought that was really neat. He doesn't have a lot to lose, maybe 40 pounds or so, but it would be awesome to have him get in shape and feel better too. So I spent the night at his place and the whole day and night were just fabulous. I can add one NSV to my list about having more fun during sex =) Skinnier sex is much more fun. Sometimes I feel like I need someone to pinch me, like is this really real? Is this my life now? How did I get to such a happy place so quickly? Not that I was horribly depressed before, but I certainly was not happy. I cannot say enough how thankful I am for this surgery. I will have to remember to let my surgeon know Thursday at my 3 month appointment that he has been such an instrument for change in my life. I'm sure he gets it a lot as people lose, but it would be nice to let him know that I feel so appreciative for the gift he has given me (Even though I paid for it =p). Anyway, I just wanted to update because I hadn't in a while, and I haven't really kept up on my food logging or searching posts here. I keep trying to get myself back into the habit of it, but it hasn't worked. It will continually be something that I try to work on until I can finally make it a habit. I haven't been eating poorly though, and my weight loss has been great, so I'm not concerned or anything. That being said, I'm procrastinating finishing getting ready for work, so I have to head off. I hope everyone is doing well! Life is good. =D
  17. I went clothes shopping yesterday for the first time in about 10 years. It was exhausting! I tried on so many pants. I don’t know what fits anymore. I've been wearing size 40 stretch waist band for the last 6+ years. So I started at size 36, then 34, then 32(tooooo tight). So I tried on 33 and some fit me. But for the first time in about 12 years I actually bought pants that did not have an elastic band in the waist. Woo Hoo! For the first time in many years my pants aren't baggy in the butt or hips. Thank you to my little lapband friend. tmf

    Anyone Else Sick Of Leaning?

after my shower i have a plastic chair i would sit in front of the full length mirror to blow dry my hair, use curling Iron, i couldn't/wouldn't try and stand up doing this. i was uncomfortable. 92 lbs down, chair is now put away, and i stand in front of the medicine cabinet and do my hair, luv it. big accomplishment for me NSV? when DH and i went to grocery store, i would sit and wait in the car. various "leg/knee" reasons it was just easier. now, i go into the store while my DH closes his eyes in the car NSV not only am i walking better, i have built up my confidence that it doesn't bother me walking through the store amongst many others NSV

    My New Do..

WOW.... Looking good! I think that's a fabulous NSV! Congrats to you. You deserve it!
  20. My NSV today: putting on hook & eye closure (not elastic!) pants that I could only dream of closing 2-3 days out from surgery due to my gas-filled belly!!

    Old Ways Omg

I've given up the straw at work! Huge NSV for me as I work in a steammmmmy kitchen & we always have drinks nearby. I switched to a coffee lid instead of lid/straw. At home it's not an issue, but restaurants....well, I guess I won't be eating out much post-op anyway. 347*294/285/135 (*347HW/294SSW)
  22. Hi Marilyn, welcome to the group. I am fairly new here myself but there is tons of information and support. There are a lot of great people here and they don't mind if you vent when your feeling down or praise yourself when you have NSVs....it's great to have so much support when you're going through something like this, especially if you don't really have support from those closest to you. Good luck and enjoy your journey!
  23. So I bought a cute pair of jeans on clearance a few weeks ago in hopes of being able to wear them a few weeks post-op. Wellll, I tried 'em on this morning on a whim and THEY FIT!!! wOoooot! Surgery is Monday. Can.Not.Wait.
  24. I just received a discount email and was moving it to my delete folder, but I'm actually in the process of unsubscribing it. I am having a huge eBay auction next week for clothes, size 22w - 18 (summer &winter) - plain & designer (Ralph, Michael ) costs and shoes too etc! Sent from my iPhone using RNYTalk
