  1. I had Bypass on 8/10, things were going well, into my second week I was involved in a serious car accident. I have not been following my schedule due to injuries. I have eaten Pasta, rice, fried chicken. Any suggestions!!! Should I start over with a liquid diet???? Help!!!
  2. The last 5 months I've been getting UTI's for 2 days every other month, treated with over the counter meds. This month I got 2 UTI's 1 week apart! I'm pretty sure it's because I'm not eating or drinking enough so my body isn't flushing out the bad bacterias. My problem is, eating solid foods hurts my stomach, just a few bites and it feels like I ate a pound of food, so most days I'd rather not eat at all then get a stomach ache. I can go days without eating so I am worried my little stomach has gotten even smaller due to lack of food. Has this happened to anyone else?

    Help! I made a mistake.

My doc had a cancellation so I only had four days to prep. I mentioned that and they said it was ok because I had lost about 10 pounds when I went to the nutritionist . I'm on day 5 now and I've only lost 2 pounds (first surgery had to be cancelled because I came down with Lyme disease 2 days before)
  4. Surgery week is here! My surgery is Wednesday, November 18th. I've got most of my stuff packed. I am packing for the hospital and the weekend after as I am staying with a friend at her apartment that has an elevator! My kitchen is cleaned out except for post-surgery items. I have the rest of today and the morning tomorrow to work and then two weeks+ off for recovery. One more trip to the pharmacy to refill prescriptions and get a few things and I'm ready. This journey started when I was put on my first diet at the age of 6 because I wasn't thin. (I wasn't fat either, but I wasn't thin.) I've never been thin, but its only been the last 10-15 years that I've really put on the weight. Like everyone else, I have tried everything. In July I realized that I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. My knees were starting to hurt climbing stairs, my feet were starting to become a problem, my diabetes (A1c) and blood pressure were creeping up, my wardrobe was soon going to need to go up another size and that was getting harder to find, and I realized that I had reached the point that I was ready for surgery. I had exhausted my last option and was ready and willing to make this step. So here I am almost the eve of surgery excited, contemplative, and scared. Ready to just get on with it and not have to be anxious anymore. To everyone else have surgery this week! Best wishes! pam
  5. If a miracle skin suck machine is developed so I can sleep in it at night and wake up taut and back in my 25 year old body, I'll look at the BMI chart. But as long as I am hauling around 10 pounds of excess skin I'll shoot for my own goal. Any brainiacs here? If so, get to work on that skin suck machine pronto.
  6. Had no idea that it had flipped. Went for 2nd fill and after 10 pokes, sent me for fluro and it was flipped completely over. He was really upset b/c with it stitched down it should not have done that. He wasn't mad at me, he was mad at himself. I see him for follow up tomorrow so maybe he can tell me more, like did all the stitches go or what.

    Pre-op diet? What is allowed?

No, it's not consistent. And you will find that from beginning to end as you participate in these forums. My pre-op diet was two weeks at 1200 calories per day - low fat. I was on full liquids for only two days pre-op. Then, clear liquids for two days after surgery, then moved to full liquids for another 10 days. Then mushy foods, and every 7-10 days something else was added. I've read of people being on full foods within two weeks. Not much progression, other than liquids right afterwards. Then some had to stay on clear liquids for a full month post-op. Every doctor has their own spin on this part, and it's just important that you follow what YOUR doctor prescribes. Don't get thrown off by what you read here. It can be confusing, but you chose your doctor for this procedure, and need to lean on him and his staff for guidelines.

    Stalled

My surgery was June 8th, 2012, so I am just over 10 months out. I have lost 82 pounds and have stalled. I have been tracking what I eat and exercise. I try to stay around 800 calories a day but definitely under 1000. I try to exercise an hour a day, not including chasing my kids and house work (lol). I have been at the same weight for close to 2 months I believe. I always struggle with water intake, but I am trying to improve, just not a big drinking in general. I have been laid off since March 1st so that has been an adjustment, but I started tracking food and exercise to make sure I wasnt going nuts now that I had a kitchen available to me at all times. Any advice, suggestions, etc would be great!
  12. So my Girlfriend recently went to the Hospital yesterday due to some slight numbness she was having, They told her there was nothing wrong with her Heart or Brain (As they scanned both). However now she's having a loss of sensation where the numbness was and now there is pain in her stomach (She said it's at least a 6 or 7 on a 1-10 pain scale with 10 being the highest). She also says it isn't gas related as she's having no issues there. She says the numbness has spread/grown severely, it started in her left thigh and has spread everywhere except for her toes, the top of her feet, her head, face, neck, shoulders, arms and hands. We're not entirely sure what this is, but the doctors said it was "Paresthesias" but this sounds FAR more severe than this. She had the sleeve back in december.
  13. That's terrible. Where do you live??? I'm in my early 40's now. In my early 30's I lost 150+ pounds through diet and exercise. I thought I was bullet proof and my issues with food were solved. I was cured. WRONG. Over the next 10 years I put back on 110 pounds. Now I know I'll never be 'cured' of my issues with food. It'll be something I'll need to manage, always. But I learn from my mistakes and move on. When I lose the weight this time, I won't make the same mistakes again. Learn from today and move on. You're in a better position now because you know there's still emotional eating issues there. Now that you're aware you can manage that next time you feel under stress. Cheers, Deano
  14. Doubtful, the human body will fluxuate around 10 lbs per day, so unless you've gained A LOT... I really don't see them canceling or delaying. They usually don't weigh folks in when they schedule... mine was scheduled over the phone, I personally wouldn't worry about it.
  15. Went to my pre-op class today. Happy to find out that my doctor doesn't require a liquid diet before surgery. There is a meal plan to follow but it's very doable. My sleeve date is Nov. 19, wish me luck. Very nervous.
  16. Good morning! So, it’s been over 2 weeks since I’ve actually stepped on the scale. Bad? Good? Neither, more like a huge sigh of relief. My scale has been living my life for me for the last 6 years. It has defined who I was, and it was the precursor on how I would feel that day. I go up a few pounds? Bad day and everyone around me look out! I go down a few pounds? The world is a beautiful place and everyone and everything are super duper!! Why is this? In the very beginning of my Sleeve journey (not my pre-band and not my band journey) I was only weighing in once a week. Every Wednesday I would jump on the scale and see how my week went. Pretty much every single time I stepped on I was down at least a few pounds. Awesome! Some weeks it would drop huge numbers, sometimes only one pound. They were all fine with me – if you only knew what I went through with my band, you’d know that for ME EVERY SINGLE POUND lost WAS A BLESSING!! For the record that has not changed. I’ll tell you what has changed. How often I was stepping on that scale. Over time my weigh-ins would increase. From a few times per week, then up to a few times per day. For me, this really started to mess with my mind! In the beginning it was no big deal. But the closer I started to get to some very huge weight milestones I started to really let it affect my mood. NOT GOOD!! I did always promise that if it did affect me negatively then I would take a step back and not do it anymore. …and that leads me to today. Today I have not weighed in two weeks! I think this is for sure the longest I’ve gone since my sleeve surgery. I think I’m almost ready to get back on. *Almost*. Wednesdays have always been my weigh day – but I may change that. Before my sleeve I always liked to weigh in on Fridays. I think I may go back to that. The reason for this is during my workweek I am excellent!! I do my workouts, I eat perfect – I’m just really on point during these days. It’s always nice to see the fruits of my labors at pretty much the end of this. The weekends are a lot harder to manage. Hubby and I are always really busy and whatnot, it’s just not as structured. I’d rather not see the bounces if at all possible. Is this avoiding the truth? Who cares??? My sanity is at stake here!! LOL!! IMO as long as the scale is going down, I’m happy. Even if it’s one little pound – ya know that’s still ONE POUND closer to GOAL!! Gotta love that. Especially since I’ve only got about 30 or so to go. Most folks tell me that I don’t look like what I weigh. Awesome! I wish I did though. I would most likely at this point just try to wiggle myself into maintenance mode at this point. However, the fact is I DO still weigh what I do (199.6 at last check) so I still have a little bit to go. I was going to go for the maximum weight according to the ridiculous BMI charts. For me that would be 154 Lbs being that I’m 5’6”. Knowing this I’d still have 45.6 Lbs to lose. Ummm… no. I’m already fitting in some 10’s and mostly all 12’s now. My 14’s are pretty much ready for donation but I’m wearing them until they fall off me… LOL… which is not too far from now. Who knows what size I’ll be in 30-35 more Lbs. I will surely be done by then. Anyway like my title said, My Scale Does Not Define ME!!! I do. Blessings to all on your journeys. I know this is long winded – but that’s how I do things...

    Sleep Apnea

I have not gone back in and had the sleep study again, but my family complains that they can no longer tell if I'm asleep or not because I rarely snore and if I do it is light. I also no longer gasp for air 10 times a minute. Mine was SEVERE! I cannot believe I was living like that! I was so sleep deprived that I should have been dead.

    First entry

Decided I am going to use this as a diary so I can look back on my thoughts and feelings pre-op and post op and hopefully see my progress!! I went into the clinic the other day and I paid the £500 deposit for my lapband. The operation itself is on the 18th april. Im going away on a cruise on the 7th-14th april and I start the milk diet on the same day as my journey home. I was a bit nervous about not doing the whole 10 day diet as recommended by the clinic, but i voiced my fears to the surgeons assistant and he assured me this was only necessary for the very big patients and that i would be ok with only 5 days, i hope to god this is true!! Ive spent the last few hours reading through various posts/groups/looking at photos on this website and i have to say im absolutely petrified!! There is such a range of success stories!! some people not losing much at all and feeling hungry all the time (which is my main fear as that is the main reason i am getting this operation-to not feel starving all day every day!!) and some people losing loads and saying it has changed their lives. Im just terrified im going to be one of those people that dont lose much or that dont have much restriction, as the thought of spending £7,500 on something that might not even work is heartbreaking!!! plus, im pinning all my hopes on this as i really dont think i could go on much longer living the life i am now, im so unhappy. Another thing that is worrying me is the fact that no one else seems to have had the operation with the birkdale clinic where i am getting mine done, i dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing that they havent been mentioned. seeing some of the terrible feedback of certain places (the hospital group for example which i thought seemed like a reputable company till i read this website) has scared me cos the birkdale clinic seems like such a good place and everyone seems so genuine, and when i mention things that could go wrong and problems people have (not having any restriction for example) they say it is because the people have not received the aftercare that i will receive. Im just going to have to pray that they are not just saying these things to get the money off me then jib me off once i have had the operation!! anyway i better go, got to have my blood taken monday and im paying then too so ill have to wait and see if anything changes once they have my money! fingers crossed not!!
  19. Hi there everyone, I'm not banded yet (scheduled for 9/28), but I've read so many posts about bad tasting Protein drinks I thought I'd pass on what I discovered a couple of weeks ago. Buy unflavored whey protein (I use "Any Whey"). Make up a batch of any flavor of sugar free koolaid. Put 8 - 10 ounces of the koolaid in a blender, add one scoop of the unflavored Protein powder and a couple of ice cubes. Blend it till the ice is crushed. It tastes just like a fruit smoothie, is very high protein, and tastes good!! I also do the same thing with vanilla whey protein and sugar free koolaid and it makes it tastes even more like a Smoothie King Smoothie. Good luck! Lisa

    Not Loosing Since 1st Fill

I was banded 9/19 and had my first fill on 10/24 (2cc in 5cc band) and feel no additional restriction and no weight loss since fill, I have however had a 7% body fat reduction and the office says to focus on that. I am having another fill on 11/28. The office also said it's very common to need another fill (or more). Don't be discouraged, you've only just started on the road, and it's a long one, just try and stick to the diet and keep exercising! Good luck!

    medically supervised diet

A lot of times they do the supervised diet to make sure that you are willing and ready to make changes in your eating habits. I also have a thyroid condition and have been on meds for it for over 10 years now. A hypothyroid can also cause or at least help along weight gain and inability to lose weight. Good luck and I'm sure everything will go well. Take care.
  23. Just wanted to share my progress so far. 41 pounds gone. Exercising 5x a week. The left photo was taken the first day of school this year in August 2013. I weighed 369. The right photo was taken last week because I felt "skinny" for some reason at work. I am now 328. My surgery was 10/2/13. I still have a lot of work to do, but: 1.) my clothes fit better 2.) I'm rediscovering old clothes I haven't worn in 4-5 years 3.) my shoes fit better! 4.) I'm not tired all the time 5.) people notice my weight loss now
  24. Had bypass this morning, and took a total of 30 minute walk split in chucks of 5-10 minutes. The pain meds make me sleepy, which is what slowed my roll, but I was told to walk as much as possible.
  25. I think my hernia repair was more painful than the band. It hurt everytime I would take a breath. I think it lasted about 10 days for me. It did get better each day though. I think 9 lbs is ok for the first week. I wouldn't worry about it. The pulling pain maybe your port. Just give it all some time. it is just a little fragment compared to the rest of your life.
