16 days to my operation
♥LovetheNewMe♥ replied to sarcasticandsmart's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sarcaticandsmart, Congratulations on your decision to have Lap-band surgery. I was banded on October the 27. My suggestions for the next 16 days is to follow your doctors orders on the pre-diet. It gives you a nice jump start on your weight loss and prepares you for learning portion control. During my two weeks before surgery I was both excited and nervous. I had never had surgery before and must admit I was scared. I have a long way to go but am so excited to get started, I am tolerating liquids well and still struggle with my protein shakes because I am not a sweet drink person. I strongly suggest you take these next 16 days and find a protein drink you like because taking in your protein is very important to your weight loss and health. I found some unflavored, no odor powder I like that I can mix in just about anything I drink and it does not change the consistency or flavor. Good luck on your journey. Wish I had made my sooner.:hi: Diane -
Carbonated Beverages

Hiya, I haven't been banded yet (scheduled for NYEve) but when I went for my preop visit with Dr Marsden he said some of his patients pour their diet soda over ice and let it sit for a couple of minutes. He said he doesn't have a problem with this of course no drinking through straws. He also suggested a glass of wine a week actually helps with weight loss. He didn't say become a whino LOL!! but he did say that is something he has learned along the way. He has done thousands of LapBands and I have yet to find someone who found any disappointment with him. but he did mention something interesting maybe you guys can help out....He said alot of his patients have a problem digesting lettuce. Other leafy greens are okay but lettuce gives them a problem. any opinions? I love reading these forums, I have learned so much. But sometimes things have to be taken with a grain of salt. Where my Dr says those things are okay, another Dr may disagree altogether. Anywho, that's my 2cents Cheryl -

Ok, after 6 weeks, 1 a day is ok! When I went to the seminar, the Doctor giving the speech, had, had the lap-band, and was drinking a diet coke! I am a diet mountain dew drinker, however, I have cut myself down to 1 or less a day already..But I will at least try one after 6 weeks just to see if/how it affects me...Not sure why some Doctors say it's ok and some say it's not... -
I'm 38 days post-op sleeve and for about a week, no loss. Dr said this normal until my body adjusts from the rapid loss. Anyone else going through it?

Surgery in a couple of weeks!
AshleyMichelle posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Okay so my surgery is June 3rd and i am freaking out !! I am so beyond excited but also very nervous!! Is there any tips on what liquids to drink the week before and after surgery? -
That's great to hear. I've had 2 fills so far (the 2nd was 3 days ago) and I don't feel any restriction so I'm thinking it's going to take me at least 3 fills. I have an out of town business trip to Denver scheduled for the week of 9/15 so I don't want to risk getting a 3rd fill before the trip and then experiencing overtightness while I'm out of town so I was thinking I will wait until I get back from my trip to schedule the 3rd fill.

2 Month Stall And Current Approaches
Fiddleman replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for the response. Sorry about posting this question in the wrong section (should be in fitness rather than post-op, but oh well). I went to Amazon.com and searched for "New Rules of Lifting." Surprisingly, there were a few different books with that name for men. Should I get the one titled "The New Rules of Lifting: Six basic Moves for Maximum Muscle", "The new Rules of Lifting for Life: An all-new muscle-building, fat blasting plan for men and women who want to ace their midlife exams", "The New Rules of lifting for Abs: A myth-busting Fitness Plan for Men and Women who wat a Strong Core and a Paint-Free Back" or "The New Rules of Lifting Supercharged: Ten All-new Muscle-Building Programs for Men and Women." Looking for some advise on which book because I have quite a number of very good weight lifting books and don't want to buy many more. The ones I got are too advanced for a newbie. Every time I start weight lifting on my own in the past (e.g. lifting dumbells), I usually get lazy and go back to Cardio (no problem challenging myself on the ellyptical or treadmill). I think it is a matter of enjoying the training and staying focused. All that said, I am looking for the best book / video on helping me achieve real results in 2-3 times a week without hurting myself. Also, money is tight so I am unable to join a gym. I have a bench, some dumbells (5 - 30 lb) and a giant ball at home. -
I was sleeved on 4/26/16. I had my 2 week post-op check up today and my surgeon is very pleased with my progress! When I started my pre-op diet I weighed in at 254lbs! The day of my surgery I was 241lbs... Today I weighed in at a ridiculous 220lbs!!! I'm currently wearing a shirt that was previously form fitting/tight, and it's actually fitting the way it's supposed to be! I'm in little to no pain, and I'm tolerating pureed food very well (just started purees today)! I'm feeling truly blessed in my recovery, and I have so many of my family and friends cheering me on and asking for updates! It makes me teary eyed to see how many people care about me and my health! Ok, hormonal moment over! Thanks, y'all! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using the BariatricPal App

Almost 5 weeks post op and Stall?
sararn74 replied to krissyphd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 5 weeks out also, lost 23lbs so far, but 18 of those were in the first 2 weeks. Since then I've had a stall & just lost really slow. I only weigh myself weekly, but it is frustrating. Feel that I'm doing most everything right. Need to increase exercise I guess to help things along...? Any other suggestions? -

My First Nsv.....and Second!
Felicia replied to nancy_marie_00's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats so awesome!! I want to weigh less than my fiance too. I am about 3 pounds away from onderland and I am hitting another stall. He weighs 175 so I have a ways to go but I bet it feels so good to say that u weigh less. Congrats! Keep sheddin those pounds! -
Ok this is going to sound really strange. But I've been working on running lately, doing the couch to 5k. Anyway today I ran at 4.2 mph on the treadmill for 5 minutes, then it all started. I started drooling/sliming and then the puking started. Considering it was first thing in the morning the only thing I had in me was Water. I felt like my band was really really tight. So I stopped to puke and then just layed in bed for an hour and sipped a hot cup of tea. I felt fine afterwards and my band seemed to lossen up. Has this happened to anyone? I've been working out for the past 6 weeks with no problems until now. Cardio is either biking or the treadmill. Thanks, Leena

Hello everyone! I have been reading posts on here for the last couple of days, and I am soooo thankful to see that many others are going through some of the same stuff I am! I even recognize of a couple of you from you tube as well! I must have watched like a thousand videos before my surgery!! I am 11 days out and feeling pretty good, but still adjusting to how little food I can actually consume; 1-2 oz. max. I find it incredibly difficult to get in my Protein, but I am having no trouble getting in my fluids. In fact, I would just drink Water all day if I could! I have pretty much been heavy my whole life, and pre-surgery, I was at my top weight of 248 for the second time in my life - only this time I decided to make a permanent change, and I can't believe I actually did it!!! I am a 33 year old wife, mother of three, graduate student, and professional, who wants to be the healthiest me that I can be!! I am soooo excited for what my future holds! Good luck everyone! I look forward to sharing in this journey with you!

Today! I am six weeks out. Given the go ahead for anything I want. -
Every few days or weeks I get a wake up call that reminds me how my life is changing. Today......I fit in a non stretch pair of size 14 pants. Were they tight-you bet-but they won't be in a month! My goal size is 14! I thought I would weigh a lot less at 14, so I will keep going. Another biggie today-I changed my official weekly loss goal to 1.5 pounds per week. It has been 2 lbs for a long time, but that is just not happening any more. So every week I feel bad, like 1.5 is a failure. So lets say I am setting myself for success! So:smash:metimes I am wat too hard on myself!

The Countdown Begins-Clear Liquids-ouch!
CLinND replied to Jamtte's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It has been two weeks since my surgery and I am feeling great. I had liquids for two weeks before and two weeks after. Mostly Optifast products. What helped me through was canned chicken broth that I bought at Sams Club. It was a nice change from chocolate, strawberry and vanilla (I got real tired of the strawberry and vanilla towards the end). It was also nice to have something warm after all those chilled drinks. I also got raw veggies if I wanted and that helped too, having something crunchy. I told my Dr. that I thought I could make it through, but I wondered what would happen if I broke down and ate something. His reply was "nothing". I made it through except for one evening when I didn't feel well and ended up eating two scrambled eggs with cheese. Most of the time, getting on the scale and seeing the weight go down was incentive to stick with it. Good luck, you will do great! -
Surgery Cancelled -July 16Th
Fallenangel2904 replied to Amyl219's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Aw sorry you had to cancel, but your right going in for surgery while sick is not a good idea. And it's only a week later so not much of a big deal when you think about how long it takes us to actually get everything together pre op lol. Good luck and hope you feel better ASAP! -
At 4 weeks post-op, I came down with a bad flu bug for a week, I didn't eat from last Monday to Monday 2 days ago, (which puts me at 5 weeks post-op now) and when I started feeling better Monday afternoon I made and ate some tuna noodle casserole, thinking it would be easy on my belly to start eating again. Ever since I have felt like I'm completely starving again like when I first come home from the hospital when I got the sleeve done. So I've been doing some reading and I think I stopped my ketosis by eating those darn noodles. So now I'm trying to figure out how long does the average person stay in ketosis after the surgery, so I can see if I need to work on putting my body back in that that state or not. I know as I am right now, I feel like I'm starving about 2 hours after eating, and I can't continue on like this. All I want to do is EAT. I didn't even feel like this BEFORE the surgery!!

This Friday will make 7 weeks post-surgery, and this morning I finally entered Onederland! 199.3, to be exact. (Hence, the "just barely" in the title). I'm down 34 pounds; almost halfway to my goal weight. Still having a bit of trouble with the Protein (I either hate the taste, or can't get it down), but I'm not giving up. i ate about 5 bites of steak the other night, and it stayed down just fine, but I was so FULL!! A few papaya enzyme chewable tablets helped it go down a lot easier. Despite the eating difficulties... BEST DECISION I'VE EVER MADE!!

First fill today - 6 weeks post op. My body shape is changing and I've gone down a pant size but only lost 1lb from surgery date of 1/21 (according to doc scales). Exercising, completely changed the way I eat (no soda, no junk food, Protein first, etc.). Doc said he was gonna put in fill, then have me drink til I felt restriction. He put in 3 ccs and I inhaled 2 glasses of Water with no problem. I told him I could keep drinking and he said that 3ccs is his max fill. He said "I'll see u in 4 weeks and I'm sure u will need a fill". Anybody else had similar experience with (1) not feeling restriction with first fill and (2) dropping a size with virtually no loss in lbs?

Hello all, I am new to this site and it looks like a great place to get some feed back on my issue. I have been banded over 4 years and am at goal weight. Have been at the same weight about 2 years. I am thinking that my band has slipped. I have all of the symptoms pretty much. I couldnt get an appt any sooner than next week so Ill have to wait to know for sure. My question is for anyone who has gone through slippage or knows about it: What happens if its a really bad slip and they have to remove the band? Are they going to re-band me if I am at goal weight? I am about 140 and 5''8 so my husband thinks I should leave it out if I need surgery. But I am worried about maintaining. The whole point of the band is to CURE obesity. And if there is no band in there I could go back to 250 in a no time Im sure. Anyway, I know this is long. Just looking for some insight. Thanks so much!

getting enough protein
sharcorb replied to beckyrlnd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a year out and still drink the protein drinks most days. I lost alot of hair about 6 months ago, and decided a small protein drink (usually half of the serving size Isopure) would be easy to get down and I wouldn't have to sweat it every day. I did start to develop a kidney stone, and heard that apple cider vinegar would help with that. I added some to apple juice for a week or so and it cleared up. Good luck, Sharon
