For me it was combinations of many things that made me think I have to lose weight to be able to enjoy life again: diabetes diagnosis was bad, starting to take blood pressure meds was bad, not being comfortable in the movie theater seats was awkward, being unable to keep myself clean was awful, getting dressed took me about 30 min and I was sweating while doing so, getting any clothing over my foot was a huge effort and required me to be in a certain position to be able to manage it, my shower chair can only hold the weight up to 300 lb and I didn't want to use it worrying it will brake under my body one day, using CPAP was neither comfortable nor practical but I had to, and what worried me more was my son being scared of me when seeing me wear it, increasing foot, knee and back problems were starting to be a growing worry, but what got me over the line was one other fact regarding my son. He is autistic and rides the small bus to school, which means I have to get up on it and buckle him in. One day last year they changed the actual bus and this one had very little room in the aisle between the rows of seats and I had to squeeze myself sideways through them all (my son favored to sit on the very back of that bus). I thought to myself I cant wait till I wont be able to make it between those seats. Now as the new school year started and I am about 2 months after surgery I can fit between them just fine, I already put some of the older clothing away, diabetes was gone before I got back home from the hospital, I'm taking only half of the blood pressure med but I think at the next visit my doc might take me off of it completely due to pretty low pressure now (106/68), I can get dressed like everyone else, including clasping my bra without magic tricks, NO MORE CPAP ,saw Dunkirk in IMAX theater and enjoyed the movie immensely, not only cause it was a great movie but also cause I was really comfortable and sipping my drinkable greek yogurt while others chowed down their movie foods. I walk daily, about 30 min and I pay very close attention to how much and what I eat, and I see myself changing, and being happy, really enjoying life again. I still have knee and back pain, and I will deal with them when I lose more weight. Also thinking to sign up at local gym fro the winter months. The changes I see are not only in my body but also of my mindset, and the weight gone (about 60 lb now) really inspires me to do more, be better, smarter and healthier. I even started cooking at home LIFE IS GOOD

    4 oz lite yogurt today

    Yogurt is basically a liquid if it isn't a greek yogurt. You really shouldn't be eating until full. That is a bad habit to start. Measure your portions and only eat that amount.

    Destined to be fat?

    I'm not going to scream but your food choices are terrible. I eat Sous Vide Egg bites when I am out because they are easy, and I am usually low on calories but I am also, basically at goal. The egg white version while lower in calories is a worse choice than the bacon and gruyere version because it is higher in carbs. The carbs are exactly equal to the protein. The bacon and cheese version the protein out numbers the carbs 2 to 1. So if you need a Starbucks breakfast because, that is what is easy, get black coffee and the Bacon and Cheese version. If the egg bites aren't worth having black coffee, then don't get them. That morning drink you are making is also bad. Why not just have coffee? Or have coffee and 2 tablespoons of half and half? Half and half is only 40 calories. A cup of milk is 120. Yeah you are getting protein but it is coming with 6 grams of sugar. The "sugar free" breakfast essentials, has 12 carbs, 7 of which are sugar. Drinking that you are having 18 grams of carbs for 18 grams of protein. You could have a premier shake, less calories, more protein, less sugar. The frozen entree at lunch, just stop that. Either go out and get a burger and don't eat the bun. Bring just lunch meat, get a sandwich and just eat the meat. There are a ton of better options. I used to get Italian beef from the sandwich shop by the office and have them put it in a bowl for me with cheese. All protein and and a little fat from the cheese, and low calorie. The snack with the yogurt or the frappe. Replace that with protein. Lunch meat, grilled chicken cut into strips, quest protein chips, a protein bar, anything but what you are eating. Dinner, Just eat protein and when you finish your protein eat a Veggie. Your calories are high and so are your carbs so you are not losing. Until you get to goal, you can't eat normal just in smaller portions. You will not lose like that. People also regain eating just like that. Eventually you are going to stop being stalled and just start regaining. Plus you don't really seem like you are logging or tracking. How much spaghetti did you have? Did you portion it and weigh it on a scale first? With enough sauce it is just slider and you can eat a lot of it. If you really want to lose, you are going to have to change your food choices and tighten up your habits. You can do it, you just have to choose to.
  4. I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op. I've been eating 2oz puréed food at a sitting. Today for breakfast I was able to eat 4oz lite dannon yogurt until full. Does this make since. Later on I was back to 2oz refried beans and was full with that. Thanks in advance for your support!

    Slow Eating

    everyone is different. These rules were designed for the average patient and if you follow them you will more than likely avoid issues. Some people can eat a little faster without issues. I have found it depends on what I am eating. Yogurt- 5 minutes and done no problem. Salad or dense protein must slow down and chew thoroughly or I will feel pain in my chest after eating. I will occasionally drink a sip of water halfway through a meal, but just a sip. The problem with drinking and eating is that it will cause the food to pass through your stomach faster and you could overeat. It is better to just not do it unless you really have to.

    August 31st!!!

    If you have emotional ties to eating you should consider counseling to help support you on this journey. That being said, I had mine 8/31 and have felt deprived at all yet, probably because I battled more pain than expected. I don't know if you started on clear liquid or full liquids but I started on full liquids and tomato soup made with milk has been awesome when I feel hungry. I try and sip protein shakes throughout the morning and evening, drinking 1/2 a premiere shake at a time. Also smooth light yogurt is helpful, but I can eat more than I think I should (1/2 a container). Hang in there, things will normalize for us and the weight loss and health will be worth it.     Skipping pureed

    My surgeon had us on soft food by the time I left the hospital 2 days later. We were able to eat yogurt, cottage cheese, pudding, soups, oatmeal, stuff like that. I dont think your alone, I was the same way. Sometimes I wish it was a little harder for me, i havent had problems with too much other than eggs, theyve bothered me a few times.     Stage 2-curious finds

    My stage 2 doesn't have tuna or clams and I don't think potatoes or ice cream are included at any stage for me! I'm all protein shakes, yogurt, and cream soup at this stage; when I remember I can have a fudgesicle, I run to the freezer for one. But I am going out of my mind with this stuff--I want food! Real food! Yes, I know . . . eventually . . .
  9. I feel fine--had virtually no pain at all other than when I woke up right after the surgery. And I've had no trouble at all with any of the stuff I've been drinking (shakes, water, Crystal Light). I am just sooooo sick of protein shakes!! Cannot wait until food is involved again, no matter how small the portion. I've had some yogurt today . . .

    Skipping pureed

    I am just wondering if this is all with the okay of the surgeon and/or nutritionist? I've had no problem tolerating anything so far but I'm scared to do anything that might threaten the sleeve and recovery. But if I could scramble an egg and eat it now, I would. So far I've just had yogurt and creamed soup . . . can't imagine weeks more of just this.

    Bariatric Vegetarian Life

    This is exactly what has gotten the wheels in my head turning for the last little bit. The gigantic HOW. Parameters for both men and women: -Ideal consumption during lengthy weight-loss phase: 1200 calories -4 meals, no more than a cup of food per meal (early on, have to "finish" a meal a bit later.. creating more, smaller meals). -60g protein goal. "They" say that women don't need this much, but that hasn't been studied in the bariatric population. - Limit animal products, protein powders and shakes, processed foods, and soy ----------------------------- Ok, so, 4 meals, 60g protein, means a goal of 15g protein per meal. 1200cal/4 equals 300 calories per meal. Meal 1: 1 cup of cooked lentils and .5T added fat: 18g protein, 280 cal. Meal 2: 1/2 cup plain whole milk greek yogurt with 3.5oz banana and .5oz nuts or seeds: 15g protein, 300cal Meal 3: 2 slices Ezekiel bread with 2T peanut butter: 16g protein, 340 calories Meal 4: 1/2 cup cooked Teff and 1/2 cup kidney beans: 14g protein, 300 calories Breakdown: 1 dairy, 3 legumes, 1 fruit, 2 grains, 1.5 nuts/seeds, .5 added fat. Whew! Made it with only 1 dairy. It would be easy to add another 100 calories by adding a tablespoon of fat to the 4th meal. But, if we were aiming for zero dairy, the day gets pretty boring. If you notice, there isn't really room for a green leafy veggie at all! Nuts and beans, and more nuts and beans... If you wanted to throw an egg in there, replace half the Teff with the egg, and you've upped your protein by 3 grams. Calories stay about the same.

    I need ideas for puréed foods

    Here's my pureed list, for what it's worth: --Plain yogurt (low fat or fat free), Greek yogurt --Pureed fish, turkey or chicken (I know you can't have the latter two) --Pureed or small curd low=fat cottage cheese --Pureed vegetables --Pureed fruit (from the jar or can in natural juice), one serving per day I also have scrambled eggs on my list, but . . . it's not a lot to choose from and I'm wondering why he restricted those things? But you're right--follow the doctor's orders . . ..

Sure .... breskfast -- premier protein shake or Greek yogurt with 15g protein or boiled egg with 2 slices of turkey bacon lunch - ready made tuna pack with laughing cow cheese or 1.5 oz grill chick breast with 1/4 cup Brussel sprouts or small chili at Wendy's snack- premier protein shake or protein go pack from Walmart with meat, cheese, n nuts dinner- salmon and spinach or ground turkey pattie with squash or something similar hope this helps and I also drink like 72 oz of water n also about 20 oz of Powerade zero and I do drink Starbucks coffee with the protein that's in s can but I do that like once a week.

Since sat when i get up from a sitting/laying position i get a dizzy spell not every time but most times I was sleeved 8/9 and i have my 4 week follow up this friday. i get 60-80 g of protein a day and as much water as i can manage im not eating much food per say i get my protein from unjury chicken broth, yogurt, low fat cheese sticks, think thin low/no sugar low calorie protein bars and eggs Now to make matters worse on Friday i slipped and slid down 4 stairs on my butt and re-injured my coccyx bone (i injured it in the earlys 90's and in 2006) and my stomach muscles hurt too i guess from clenching them when i slid. I'm in a lot of pain and i cannot do much of anything but rest which is hard too since certain positions to lay hurt i havent sought out medical attention for it because i know there isn't much they can do but give me pain meds and im not sure i want back on them. Not sure if i should call my doc or just wait the few days till i see her? i was also a type 2 diabetic but im not on meds anymore and my sugars have been ok

    Hi, Thank you so much for replying to my thread. Please don't scream, but I'm not consistently eating low carb/sugar but I'm a heck of a lot better than I was a year ago. Mornings/Breakfast: 1 cup 2% Fairlife milk, with sugar free Nestle Breakfast essentials chocolate powder, 1 cup coffee. This makes my own latte-ish drink. An order of Sous Vide egg bites (egg white and red pepper) from Starbucks (170 cal). Lunch: Frozen entree with at least 15g protein but fewer than 10g of sugar. Snack: greek yogurt with fewer than 10g of sugar or starbucks frappe Dinner: whatever the family eats...last night it was spaghetti. Because of the size of my stomach, I can't eat as much as I used to so I really don't understand why I'm not losing more.
  16. (I accidentally posted this question to the wrong board--it should have been here, not in the complications board! Derp!) Hi guys. Can you help me brainstorm a medication "hack" please? I need to try to maximize the amount of time in my potential new "tummy." I know when we have RNY our "tummys" are MUCH smaller and we also have shorter duodenums. I'm taking an anti-cancer drug that is highly dissolvable/highly permeable (BCS Class 1) and is very quickly absorbed in the tummy and intestines, but it is a fat soluble drug rather than a Water absorbable drug. I know it isn't dependent on the pH environment for absorption. So my goal would be to get my drug to "hang out" in my stomach as long as possible. So to me, that would mean, I should probably take it with dense Protein, once I've healed to the point of being able to eat dense protein. But in the short term when I'm able to eat things like yogurt, ricotta, and cottage cheese, what do you think is the one food that I could "take a bite of" to get the pill swallowed that will stay in my pouch the longest amount of time (anti-slider food)--which is why I don't want to swallow the pill with water or other liquids? The drug I'm trying to max out on tummy time is letrozole (Femara) and is a tiny orange pill that is not enteric coated nor extended release.

  18. That everyone's experience is a little different from everyone else's. I had virtually no pain. Have had no problem with constipation, but some of the reverse issue. I've had gas, annoying rather than painful. Mostly, I guess I wish I'd known how incredibly tired I'd get of protein shakes and water as the basis of my intake. I've had some soup and yogurt the last few days, but I can't wait until I can have a greater variety of food. Also, I feel like I'm drinking constantly but I still don't meet my water goals. Argh.

    How are you getting your protein in?

    From the sounds of it, you're post-op even though it says pre-op on the left side . . . I'm not sure how far out you are, though. What I've read again and again is that we have to keep trying with the water, that it gets better. This is a struggle for me, too--definitely not meeting the water goals. I get my protein from shakes--I'm supposed to be having three a day but I usually have two of the ones with 30 grams of protein so I get 60 that way. One bit of advice I received was to eat what you can during the first two meals of the day, then have a protein shake if you need it for dinner to bring up the protein count. It won't last forever . . . you'll be able to eat more eventually. Maybe try some other things with protein in them--soups or protein water? Yogurt? It adds up.

    I drink Premier shakes in the chocolate, I always put them in the freezer for a hour or so and it's like a chocolate shake. That's the only way I can drink them .. I also put yogurt in the freezer too
  23. How about liquid yogurt...can you have that? It may have too much sugar. I have not checked on that in years. Why only 6 ozs of protein drink a day? I am under the impression that will be the mainstay of protein intake when on liquids? Am I wrong? Heck, I use a protein drink NOW to (a) keep me fuller and (b) get my protein in and I'm pre-sleeve. I have life skills class tomorrow, I'm going to ask this. I hope someone else can answer

  25. I agree wholeheartedly! I can tolerate 1oz of blueberries, or any other dark berry, 1 1/2oz of Granny Smith apples or unripe pear, and 1oz of peaches. LOL. I eat them about 2-3 times per week with something else--usually a mixture of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, or a string cheese + almonds or walnuts. Otherwise my blood sugar spikes to 170 and doesn't come down after 2hours!
