  1. Hi guys. Can you help me brainstorm "hack" this please? I know when we have RNY our "tummys" are MUCH smaller and we also have shorter duodenums. I'm taking an anti-cancer drug that is highly dissolvable/highly permeable (BCS Class 1) and is very quickly absorbed in the tummy and intestines, but it is a fat soluble drug rather than a water absorbable drug. I know it isn't dependent on the pH environment for absorption. So my goal would be to get my drug to "hang out" in my stomach as long as possible. So to me, that would mean, I should probably take it with dense protein, once I've healed to the point of being able to eat dense protein. But in the short term when I'm able to eat things like yogurt, ricotta, and cottage cheese, what do you think is the one food that I could "take a bite of" to get the pill swallowed that will stay in my pouch the longest amount of time (anti-slider food)? The drug I'm trying to max out on tummy time is letrozole (Femara) and is a tiny orange pill that is not enteric coated nor extended release.
  2. That everyone's experience is a little different from everyone else's. I had virtually no pain. Have had no problem with constipation, but some of the reverse issue. I've had gas, annoying rather than painful. Mostly, I guess I wish I'd known how incredibly tired I'd get of protein shakes and water as the basis of my intake. I've had some soup and yogurt the last few days, but I can't wait until I can have a greater variety of food. Also, I feel like I'm drinking constantly but I still don't meet my water goals. Argh.

How are you getting your protein in?

From the sounds of it, you're post-op even though it says pre-op on the left side . . . I'm not sure how far out you are, though. What I've read again and again is that we have to keep trying with the water, that it gets better. This is a struggle for me, too--definitely not meeting the water goals. I get my protein from shakes--I'm supposed to be having three a day but I usually have two of the ones with 30 grams of protein so I get 60 that way. One bit of advice I received was to eat what you can during the first two meals of the day, then have a protein shake if you need it for dinner to bring up the protein count. It won't last forever . . . you'll be able to eat more eventually. Maybe try some other things with protein in them--soups or protein water? Yogurt? It adds up.
  4. First day of liquid diet today, 3 Carnation s a day, puece of fruit, yogurt, broth for supper & couple pops a day. First day down. ; )

    Just cannot eat

Will try some of these. Can't stand Greek yogurt though.

    Just cannot eat

I drink Premier shakes in the chocolate, I always put them in the freezer for a hour or so and it's like a chocolate shake. That's the only way I can drink them .. I also put yogurt in the freezer too
  7. How about liquid yogurt...can you have that? It may have too much sugar. I have not checked on that in years. Why only 6 ozs of protein drink a day? I am under the impression that will be the mainstay of protein intake when on liquids? Am I wrong? Heck, I use a protein drink NOW to (a) keep me fuller and (b) get my protein in and I'm pre-sleeve. I have life skills class tomorrow, I'm going to ask this. I hope someone else can answer

    It's Coming Off! 😃😃😃

Mainly simply waiting, but I did begin to eat even less. I stopped having yogurt and a banana everyday. 😀
  9. I agree wholeheartedly! I can tolerate 1oz of blueberries, or any other dark berry, 1 1/2oz of Granny Smith apples or unripe pear, and 1oz of peaches. LOL. I eat them about 2-3 times per week with something else--usually a mixture of cottage cheese and Greek yogurt, or a string cheese + almonds or walnuts. Otherwise my blood sugar spikes to 170 and doesn't come down after 2hours!
  10. This is a very good point. I always pair my berries with 4oz of yogurt which has some protein and fat. Honestly, I am amazed at how well my body processes carbs now. In the past if I ate say one baked potato, my BS would remain elevated for 3-4 hours and the rise was unacceptable 40-60 pts. Now I can eat basically anything and my bs behaves like a non-diabetic. I don't eat junk though, no way am I going down that road, but a serving of whole wheat pasta does not spike my BS and this is such a change for me.

    It's Pumkin season!!

It sounds so good!! My band to sleeve revision surgery is Thursday. I can have yogurt thinned with fat free milk once I get home, so I will definitely have to try this [emoji5] Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    It's Pumkin season!!

I use plain Greek yogurt, add the pumpkin, spices, and stevia. The nice part about doing this is it doesn't add very many carbs. There is 3 grams to three scoops.

How do you make your own yogurt? Sent from my SM-N920V using BariatricPal mobile app

    It's Pumkin season!!

So as WLS patients this time of year can be so so so hard on the ones that LOVE everything pumpkin. But it doesn't have to be! This morning I dug out a can of pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling) and added three tablespoons to my protein shake. I also added pumpkin pie seasoning and two stevias. All with two scoops of baritatric advantage vanilla and a cup of almondmilk with 5 ice cubes. Heaven!! I will use the can for making my own Greek yogurt pumpkin as well, same premise! Happy Pumpkin Season everyone!!

    How much can you eat?

My surgery was 7/31, so I am almost 5 weeks post-op. I am at the soft food stage. Some things, like Greek yogurt, I can eat almost 4 oz. Meats, "real food" I can eat a few bites, up to 2 oz on lucky days. My NUT wants only 3 meals per day with no snacking, am to fill up with water or protein drinks. I consume maybe 500 cal on good days. Am hoping it gets better. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. Apple.. sounds really good! Adding dried fruit to your salad will be a place to add calories easily. The true caloric superhero is nuts. So many calories bundled up in such a tiny package (and tons of nutrients to boot). When you are running 4 miles, I'd like to see you add an ounce of nuts in addition to your yogurt. I don't know what type you like.. sunflower seeds are wonderful sources of vitamin E. (When I say "nuts" I mean nuts and seeds and peanuts ). Mix them up because each type has very different nutrient profiles.
  17. I notice an occasional cramp during drinking. I am 3 days post op. It passes quickly and mostly if I take too big of a sip. I had yogurt today, 1 ounce or medicine cup without symptoms. I am also gassy today, so that may be part of it. Just keep going slowly per recommendations of your surgeon. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Foods

Soft foods include yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna with light mayo, creamed soups, mashable vegetables, canned chicken, canned salmon, etc. Basically, soft foods are soft going down. Did your surgeon's office or dietitian or nutritionist give you a pamphlet or handout that listed the allowable soft foods for their bariatric program?
  19. Good morning everyone, I'm new to the forum. My surgery date is Sept 8th, I'm already started on my pre surgery diet. Nothing but water and yogurt for the next 4 days.

    Having vsg Sept 8 2017

I think the vanilla is super sweet. I like the chocolate though. I tried a couple different powders and couldn't get them down. The broth and the yogurt are my saving grace right now. HW 307 CW 263 HT 5'5 VSG 9/8/17
  21. My surgery was 8-28--I'm currently on full liquids and finding it rather tough. Yesterday I had about an ounce or so of yogurt and that helped a lot. I've been lucky in not having pain really at all. I have not been exercising as I should, either--hope to get out of the apartment today for a while. I was taking 60 units of insulin in the morning and at bedtime, so a LOT. I'm now taking 20 or 30 units, depending on my readings--they've been very good so far. (This morning's blood glucose was 109.) So hang on in there--this surgery will help with that devil diabetes.
  22. P.S. I should add that I could not finish all of my dinner. I ate about 3/4, but I did not edit my entry in MFP so my calories were probably slightly less. It was close enough for me.

    How much can you eat?

I'm around 17 weeks out and eat anywhere from 650-850 calories a day, 20-40 net carbs a day, and can eat 5.5 ounces of something like yogurt, but maybe only 4 ounces of meat.

Taste changing 3 month post op

I'm 6 weeks out and my protein powder sometimes give some me a weird reaction. I still need it, so I tried mixing it with Greek yogurt instead of fluid and it helped. I'm using an expensive plain grassfed whey with no flavor. Just trying to not have a weird low blood sugar nausea reaction.

    August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Sleeved 8/28 and had almost no pain. Some gas, but not painful--more uncomfortable or annoying. I've also had no problem with taking pills (haven't crushed them) or drinking the protein shakes. Not getting enough water, though. Would just about kill for something else--I'm thinking I might just go ahead and try a spoonful of yogurt. I'm on full liquids and that's one of them, but the instructions say to do protein shakes the first week and then add the other things . . . I dunno. Maybe I'll be sorry? I have not been exercising (bad me) and I'm kind of depressed because of some other issues--nothing to do with the sleeve, which I still think is a good, good thing I've done. Will feel that even more when I start seeing some weight loss . . .
