New to site: band to sleeve

I too am having revision from band to sleeve. May 28 is my date. My band was successful for 10 years. I lost 100 pounds. Last year I had a virus and was vomiting. My band slipped. They had to remove all the saline and I have now gained 87 lbs. I am ill with myself for gaining but I guess after being so restricted for so many years I kind of lost it. Good luck and keep us posted.
2. its so funny that you started this thread. I am wondering the same thing. I have lost 50 lbs and altho my clothes are a bit on the loose side, I can still wear my same jeans and tops. I will say my shoes are alot looser so I guess I lost most of my weight in my big toe
3. It is funny about those commericals! Its not that I want to go buy new clothes everytime I drop a few pounds but well..I guess I was just excited and had unreal expectations when it came to clothes. Its funny because when I was putting away the winter clothes I packed up all the ones that I just "know" I wont be able to wear this winter. I have to go to IA in June and am going to take them to a friend....so I have the pressure of losing because I wont have anything to wear when the first snow flake falls LOL. It seems that my pants are too big in the butt and legs...and do fit much better in the waist but the weight around the waist isnt going like it is in other places. I know that is normal but at this moment I hate normal Good Luck to you all and thanks for responding. Susan

Panicked, No Weight Loss

Other than shrinking the liver the purpose for the pre-op diet has always made me scratch my head. You are getting weight loss surgery because you find it difficult to impossible to lose the fat, many times proven with a multitude of diets. So we will put you on a pre-op diet to see if you have what it takes to lose weight after the surgery. To me it is like saying, "You have to cut down that Sequoia tree.....with a butter knife...to show you have the determination to do it. If you make enough of a dent on it we will give you the chain saw."
5. Everybody will lose weight at different rates. I feel fortunate, I have been losing a steady amount since surgery. Right now I am down 27 lbs post-surgery, with another 20 gone pre-surgery. I am almost at the 50lb mark and really excited. I have also lost inches - 5 from the hip, 3 from the waist and 2 in the bust. I am down 2 clothing sizes and a bra size. I am exercising and feel better than I have in years! It has not been easy, but I really want to make the change and get rid of the weight for good! You can do this. I thought I would get the surgery and never lose weight, I think it is a common thought pre-surgery. Follow your docs instructions and it will happen for you too! Good luck!
6. I enjoy reading the post from everyone but have really been amazed at the different weight loss amounts for everybody. I just want to lose quickly, although I didn't put it all on overnight. Nervous about surgery on Tuesday but looking forward to a better life.

Exercise help!

I was sleeved on Dec 2, 2013 and started exercising when they gave me the all clear. I walk 30 minutes on the treadmill at a good clip 5 days a week, some weight machines and this ab machine and I'm down 50lbs! Just walk .. 30 minutes. Does the trick!
8. I had a gastroplasty back in 2001. I have since regained all the weight, plus more, that I lost. It was a dismal failure but that was the only option back then. Is there anyone here that has had a previous surgery and then a sleeve? I guess I'm wondering if its even possible to have this surgery with the previous one in there.

Oh Thunder ME ME ME

I always like it when you're in a thread and someone totally thread Jack's with a random question about themselves that has nothing to do with the topic. Here's an example: *Thread about goal weight* Person 1: " I'd like to get to 130" Person 2: "I haven't really set a goal weight" Thread jacker: "I'm 2 weeks out and really having trouble eating and drinking because it hurts when I swallow. Why does it still hurt?" Now, I understand they may feel they have everyone's undevided attention to address the question, but for God sakes START A NEW THREAD. Okay, rant over
10. I too, was a diabetic before my surgery and took 1000 mg of Metformin as well. One week after my surgery, no need for medication any more! Losing weight will drastically lower your levels! Try your best to stay away from WHITE foods as they will raise your glucose levels. Go for walks, as walking will lower your levels! Eat a well balanced diet and you will be fine. I agree with Apple, you need to have some Protein. But, limit it to 3 oz of lean protein per meal. I can't believe your Dr. would tell you not to eat protein! WOW! Keep us posted on your journey! Kelly
11. I need any and all advise. I am 9 months post op. I lost 35 pounds and then nothing! I haven't changed my eating habits and even with fills I've stopped losing weight. I walk approximately 10,000 steps a day. No carbs. Has any one else experienced this? If so what should I do to boost my weight loss again? I was thinking to only do protein shakes for a couple days but not sure.

Getting banded in 17 hours

I was just banded 5 days ago and I have to tell you that what you are experiencing is normal. It is called anxiety and I had a ton of it. I almost walked out of the surgery center 3 times before they wheeled me back. It is important to remember WHY you are getting banded. For me, it was to save my life in the long run. I have over 200 pounds to lose and if I did not do something soon, I was bound to die from obesity related diseases. It is 6 of one or a half dozen of the other. If you continue to live gaining more and more weight, then you can almost rest assured that things will go terribly wrong. You have to look at it as you are doing this to save your life. I wish you the best.

5 days post op

You should not even be weighing yourself right now. It's common to gain weight the first week from all the fluids pumped into you in the hospital and the swelling. Just concentrate on fluids and protein and stick to your plan- you will lose weight! I gained 9 lbs in hospital. I'm also 5 days post-op.

Sleeved August 26 Th And.....

Not that it will be much help, but I was sleeved the 24th of August, and just hit 41 lbs lost. My doctor was ok with my weight loss. He said that women who aren't hugely overweight just don't lose as fast as say, a 450 lb guy. Slow and steady wins the race! Also, are you exercising? That might help speed it up. I haven't yet for various reasons, but will be hopping on that wagon very soon.

Anyone had issues with gout?

I've had it or several years, but only have flare ps 2x a year that only last a day or two. This time it as way different. Two weeks later, two different prescriptions, foot swollen couldn't even put my shoe on. Finally dr ave me prednisone. Swelling is own nearly a week later but till painful. I'm sure it's the high protein and fish. Anyone else suffering? Ideas?
17. Curious what everyone is doing for Halloween this year and what costumes they're choosing? For new pre-ops, I know/remember that this was one of the BEST things after losing weight: being able to get a rockin' Halloween costume! I'm curious to hear how new pre-ops feel and what they're going as this year? Also, for veterans, post your favorite post-op Halloween costume pic! This was my favorite, which was two years ago. I put together the costume myself! Maleficent, which was a LOT of fun wearing to school teaching middle school music students. lol

How much would I lose

There are really too many variables for anyone on here to be able to tell you the answer. Some are in your control.....what and how much you eat, how much you drink and how you excersise. Others you can't control....your metabolism, any underlying disease processes, how you heal, complications /side effects. I'm assuming you must have health issues because you are having WLS with such a low BMI. Have you talked to your surgeon about how these may impact your weight loss? Really all you can do is follow the plan and commit to your new lifestyle. And be happy with whatever results you get. Also remember you are starting at a much lower BMI than most people that have VSG, (your starting at what some people have as their goal weight), so don't get frustrated if you lose slower than others on here. Good luck!
19. @@CherieRyde today marks the beginning of my third week post-op so I can't ultimately answer your question, but ironically I started my period yesterday. I have always been fairly regular, though. You got banded in July - is this your first period since then? Just curious. I have actually been very curious to see if losing weight would cause changes in cycles. Sorry I don't have any answers! I am hoping some other female vets will join this thread

Diabetes meds

Hello there. You have not filled out your stats but I know depending on your weight we are all different. I was take off Metformin after surgery and my A1C has gone from 7 to 5, so I hope not to see Metformin again. My husband is type 2 diabetic, was 300+ lbs. and now weighs 250, and he takes a basic low dose of insulin morning and night, but we steer clear of carbs and sugar completely since the sleeve. His A1C has gone from 12 to 7, and his blood sugar is usually around 110 every morning. Good luck!

Psych eval tomorrow afternoon!

Generally they want to know if there are any underlying psychological issues behind your weight gain and whether you have the fortitude to stay with the program.

Confused

awesome labs. Measure yourself and record it. When I would try to lose weight many times I'd have drops in my measurements ling before seeing the scale move. But I wouldn't worry about losing after surgery. After all that's why you're doing it because of this struggle right here. Sent from my SM-N920T using BariatricPal mobile app
25. So, I had a bad second fill experience. I'm over it now, but have no restriction at all. Can't get my third fill until the first week of March. Here are some things I'm thinking of doing to get through this and still lose some weight. Any other suggestions are GREATLY appreciated! 1. I am planning healthy dinners for this week so I don't just do carry out and get something unhealthy. 2. I'm going to add an extra day of working out. 3. I am not going to eat after 8pm. 4. No more munching on snacks at work. I'm going to bring hot tea and have that instead.
