  1. Had my revision gastric bypass surgery May 29th but now I'm soooooo second guessing myself not that I can go back or anything. I'm just so scared of the aftermath. 5 days out I'm really having a hard time getting my liquids in. I'm breaking my head thinking of what I can eat on my puree diet. I think maybe I'm just being to hard on myself. Just needed to vent. Any advise will help. TIA

Pinterest - bypass puree stage - its a nice resource and helps distract you from going in circles inside your head.

I loved the pre-made soups at Target. The ones I liked are in cartons on the soup aisle. They're very good. I liked the roasted red pepper and the butternut squash. It was nice to have some savory things to eat.

It gets better. I was at my wits end by the end of the 1st week of purees. Just stick with it and once you start getting cleared for soft, solids and then finally raw foods, it makes the struggle that much more tolerable. *IT WILL GET BETTER*!

  3. Hello All, I had sleeve surgery in 2011 i I lost a total of a 160 pounds I gained 60 back. And I am still over weight I am currently going for my revision to a bypass on June 13. I am a little worried. But I am hoping going through the sleeve process will help me through it. I guess my question is does it help the process being through the sleeve in the past?
  4. I'm so happy to have found this thread! It's been five years since my sleeve surgery, which I honestly look back on as a really positive experience. I lost 80 pounds after all, and kept it off for three years. But I was still 30 pounds from my goal, and I have regained 30 more pounds, too. A few years back, I belonged to a Facebook support group for sleevers who all had our surgery in the summer of 2013. The first time I raised the question of revision was at about the two-year mark, and people jumped all over me. I remember one woman in particular asking, "What is wrong with you?" It was so hurtful. We can be so smug and judgmental when we first finally get a handle on our weight. I see it all over this board. But the reality is that I was hungry--not head hungry--but like I would have killed for a even a boiled egg or an apple--on my trip home from the hospital! The sleeve made it easier for sure, but losing that initial 80 pounds felt very much like white-knuckle dieting, and I never experienced the "I-sometimes-forget-to-eat" kind of honeymoon that other sleevers reported. It happens, I'm told, that some people just never do lose their appetites, even for a brief time. The grehlin changes that we hope will happen just never do in some cases. I have been thinking long and hard about revising to a mini-bypass. But information on this topic seems so scarce. I think many folks feel shamed into silence, which makes me sad. Ironically, the FB group where my feelings were so hurt is now full of people feeling disappointed and guilty about regain and dreaming of revision. Please keep the stories coming, the good and the bad. And congratulations to all the above posters who are experiencing success, and best wishes to everyone considering another surgery!
  5. I had my revision from sleeve to bypass on May 22 due to severe GERD. It seems that I've been reading people having revision 2 years post sleeve. I was originally banded in April 2009 then had revision from band to sleeve in April 2016 and now revision from sleeve to bypass last week. I wish I had skipped the sleeve and just gone straight to bypass and I would've avoided all the pain I had with GERD and I would not have had to get a third surgery. I must say that I feel great and no longer have GERD. My recovery has gone much smoother, meaning that I was back at work after one week. I asked my surgeon at my one week follow up if he actually did anything because I feel pretty good and am pretty much back to normal. I know is still have to take it easy for another four weeks but after that he said I had no restrictions.

Down 110 with 15 left to goal!

I'm in the same situation as you. It's near impossible to get the last 10 lbs off. Also I am having a revision after 2 years and four months of severe acid reflux. I'm actually okay at my weight now but I won't be upset if I lose a little more. Hopefully we can both get to goal. 😀

    slightly disappointed

Same here. From the moment they weighed me at consultation, they told me if I gained one ounce that Aetna would see me as non-compliant and toss me. Game over. Since it was a revision, I was told losing weight wouldn’t matter JUST DO NOT GAIN!!! I was so concerned, I tracked every darn thing that went in my mouth. I made sure I never went over 1100 calories a day on my Lose It app. I got 90 grams of protein in every day. By the time surgery came around 3.5 months later, they almost called it off because I’d lost 30 pounds and they were afraid the pre-op 5day would make me ineligible for anything but the band removal portion. I guess the point is, this is not a casual thing. You’re either in and serious about doing what needs to be done or your not. They want to see you do well and follow directions/meet benchmarks on the pre-op side because that indicates that you have the drive and determination to be successful on the other side.
  8. I thank you for this. I have given it more time. I’ve been eating healthy and exercising. This has only gotten me to maintain my current weight. I would do the reset as you suggested but it was extremely difficult when I did it preop and trying it now, although somewhat easier after the ESG, is still a struggle. I’m honestly kind of stuck in limbo here. I have looked into a very reputable surgeon in Mexico who is highly skilled at performing revisions. I wanted to achieve greater weight loss and believed that ESG would do that. The only benefit I’ve experienced was the initial 10 pound loss and then maintenance. The trama you mentioned is more mental trama. I feel like such a failure and it’s because I didn’t get anywhere near my goal. I hope that getting a gastric sleeve the results will be a greater weight loss. It will come with hard work and more pain and discomfort, I’m prepared for that if it means I will finally feel comfortable in my skin. For me, the physical pain would have been worth the weight loss. I would have traded having more pain and discomfort with the ESG for a losing more weight any day! Thank you so much for kind words of concern. I hope to find continued support here with whatever decision I make. I’m leaning towards getting sleeved though. I’m tired of the mental struggle.

    gastric bypass revision

@Cindyjoyes, it's okay to get angry.I wasn't too thrilled about needing a revision due to all my pain, eating difficulty, GERD, etc. But let's face it, sometimes things just don't go as planned. Probably nothing that could have been done to prevent your stricture or my problems either. You do what you gotta do, it will all work out.

    Feel like I’m failing

Did you have the bypass or sleeve? Can you give details on how you think your eating post surgery? As someone who needed a revision, you may wanna visit your doc again. Otherwise, maybe we can help here if you explain further
  11. Thanks for all the encouragement and kind words ladies. I think I’m feeling the gas pain, I need those gas-x strips but my mom only found the liquid gels and I can’t have that. I had one gnc lean protein Shake today and I’m having some Broth for dinner. I’m just having the worst time. Not sure if it’s because it was a revision, but I’m walking like a hunchback cus my insides feel so tight. Hopefully Tomorrow will be better ❤️

    Bariatric to Cosmetics

the year out im aware of. Revision is this july & im expecting Cosmetics Fall of 2019 so more then enough time.
  13. I'm 4 yrs out and the weightloss has been super slow but I now weigh 150. It's almost impossible to lose that last 15 lbs. Ive lost and gained the same 5 lbs for months. Everyone I know in my Facebook WLS board seems to think that maybe 150 is my good spot and my body is rebelling againt more loss. On July 19th I'm having a RNY revision. I've had 4 years of severe reflux with my sleeve. Hoping my post op diet and new tool, I may be able to get to goal. Hope so! My before (160) and after (150). If I lose more on my legs, I won't be able to hold the top part up. I look like a marshmallow held up with 2 toothpicks!
  14. For the last year, I've been taking Kratom, an herb from Southeast Asia that has pain relief properties. I had spinal surgery 2 yrs ago and I had a complication - I now have both feet paralyzed with foot drop on the right. I walk with a limp, as I wear a brace on the right. Spent 3 months in inpatient rehab, relearning to walk. So now I'm left with a limp thats screwing up my hip, as I now compensate from my limp. And my back and right leg r still painful. So the surgery did nothing. Cept paralyze my feet! My son told me about Kratom and I decided "What the heck". I ordered some off the internet. OMG - it works fantastically! It's almost as good as narcotics, but don't give u side effects. Problem is I have to take a ton of it. I take 16 capsules 2x a day and 32 at nite. I can also mix powder with choc milk - however, it tastes AWFUL so thats for emergencies! Ok, my dilemma: I'm having a bypass revision of my sleeve. I've had severe reflux for the last 4 yrs and my GI dr recommended bypass, as people with the sleeve have such a high rate of reflux. Stomach acid has nowhere to go but up. With the RNY, the plumbing allows acid to flow thru. I currently take 7 (yep, 7) Nexium, 2 Protonix, 40mg Prilosec, and chew Gavascon like candy. I weigh 150 and Im having a revision. Crazy. Scheduled for July 19th. It's 100% for reflux, not weightloss. I know I can't be taking all those pills nor can I drink 8-12 oz of a protein shake at once. If u take kratom and have experience with the RNY, I'd luv to hear from u. What do I do? I will literally not be able to sleep, as my back pain and anxiety keep me up. Help! Marci

    Bariatric to Cosmetics

I have no idea what your ultimate goal weight is but those I know who have had some of the procedures you mention have been at their goal weight for at least 1 year prior to cosmetic surgery. This is likely to help avoid having to have things redone if you lose a significant amount of weight after having your cosmetic procedures. It might be best for you to concentrate on reaching your weight loss goals after your revision surgery, commit to exercise and see where you are in a year. I am planning cosmetic surgery (face/neck lift) once I am at my goal but as much as I want it I only want to go through it once. It is expensive!!
  16. I will try to make this short as possible. I had a Sleeve done Oct' 2015. During spring 2017 i started to consider cosmetic surgery everything changed with weight loss. Along the process the doctors ive gotten consultations with they told me my BMI was still too high. By the beginning of 2017 i had already hit a plateau so i started to do pouch tests, different diets, and add new tips to help me lose more weight. Someone along the way mentioned revision i had no idea what it was or heard of it. I did some research and contacted my original Surgeon from my sleeve i love him and his staff. fast forward here i am just completed my pre op exams and testings for a revision this month everything will be submitted to the insurance company . my goal id for 6 months post op my revision go for another consultation and have full body work done. among getting ready for my revision sleeve to bypass, ive still continued to research for surgery and post op care. Looking to have : 360 Lipo, BBL, Breast lift maybe w/ implants , TT, arm lift. Looking to have Surgery Fall 2019, internationally. it will be out of pocket 100%. Anyone have post op Bariatric tips to help transition into getting ready for cosmetics?

    Fat kid struggles

You should have been provided with an exact breakdown of when you can eat what... follow that. If you weren't provided with one, reach out to your nutritionist and/or your surgical team and get that information ASAP. You **REALLY** need to follow the post op guidelines to ensure you heal correctly... you don't want to jeopardize your whole journey by not following the rules and regulations you've been provided. Remember, this is a massive change that will effect the rest of your life, make sure you do it right the first time or you'll end up having to get revision surgery down the road. Speaking from personal experience here.
  18. The not eating and drinking is easier to overcome than you'd realize. Get yourself an 30 mins hourglass, having the physical item helps the process greatly! Start the exercise habit now, I didn't do this when I had the band installed and it really made things exponentially harder, with my revision to bypass, I joined a gym and started going every day while I was still out of work, now it's become an easy habit to continue as I've had time to ensure it becomes part of my life and it's been one of the best things I could have done. If you don't have a scale, get one that does body fat. Honestly, having this 1 extra measurement can save so much frustration and depression. It's almost every other day now that I either gain weight or just don't lose, *BUT* I'm dropping body fat. So even though I'm gaining *weight* I'm losing body fat, so I'm still on the right track and I know that what I'm doing is working, even if that weight number doesn't keep dropping. Inch for Inch, muscle weighs more than fat, so DO NOT obsess over 1 number!

    Parents and Surgery

You are over thinking. I've got 2 kids myself, I started my WLS back in 2011 when they were in their early teen years, I can say that they both benefited greatly from my WLS. You didn't specify which WLS you were going for. When I was banded back in 2011, really the only thing the band did was reduce my quantity, this helped my kids even still, people tend to overeat and not realize it. When I was revised to Bypass this past March, I had to greatly reduce my sugar and fat intake, this has already had a positive impact on my whole family, less sweets, fattening foods, etc and more healthy options has already started to show on my family. Honestly best thing I ever did and I truly wish I had done it sooner. Just be open and honest with your little one, even at 8, they understand things better than you'd think.
  20. Honestly I'm surprised they even bothered to continue using the band, given that several major manufactures have stopped making parts and one company actually sold off their whole Lap Band section of the company. You'd think that if they were going to open you up, that they would have provided you with a better option than adjusting/fixing a product that no one is really even using anymore due to issues and complications that have caused the whole Lap Band industry to give up. Any adjustment to the band position is going to drastically change how it works, so it's wholly possible that the adjusted angle means it's going to take more fluid to reach some level of restriction, as far as air in the band... why didn't they burp it when they had the chance to do so? I'd be questioning everything the surgeon has said and done at this point personally, This is only my point of view, having been banded back in 2011 myself and all the issues I faced with the band and my conversations with my surgeon about the band, which lead to me being revised to Bypass this past March. Sorry I don't have more specific answers to your questions, Good luck with your continued journey!

    Non Scale Victories

Had surgery 10/2016 for revision lap band. I totally had a NSV when I realized I could get up off the floor so easy and chase after my grandson, didn’t have to roll around and use furniture to try and get up and I am 60 years young
  22. Hi all, After 2 years of having my lap band and having lost nearly 80kgs I had a horrid slip. I had revision surgery on 07.05.18 and they repositioned by lap band and replaced my port. I suffered a terrible bowel infection post surgery so I couldn't eat anything for 2 weeks postop anyway. On Tuesday (29.05.18) I had my first postop fill, my surgeon put 4ml in. Pre-slip I sat with 4.7ml and this was my green zone. Now, even with 4ml in off the bat I have restriction at all. I wanted to know if anyone else has had a slip revision and this has changed the amount of a fill they require to get adequate restriction? My surgeon said the word 'leak' during my fill because there was so much air in my band. I have had the worst 6 months with the health of my whole body and cannot handle having to go in for surgery again. Please share if you have gone through this!! Thanks, Jenna :-)
  23. I'm having a revision from sleeve to GB on 6/5 due to a stricture we just found. My surgery was in 2012 and I too lost 90 lbs. I'm angry about the revision because if I had wanted GBS I would have got that in the beginning. Now my whole stomach has to be restructured because my sleeve is now a tiny little tube. No clue the cause.
  24. Is there anyone out there that got sleeved with a relatively low BMI? I’d dropped to exactly 30 the morning of surgery. Had it been lower it would have been called off. Can I expect to loose my weight as quickly as others, given complete compliance (which I have maintained to the letter), or will it take me longer because I have less to lose. Has anyone else been through this? SW 180 CW 171 (14 days post op) GW 140

    C section mommies

I had revision from sleeve to bypass on Tuesday. I came home yesterday and the pain is minimal. They sent me home with prescription for pain but haven’t needed it. It’s in comfortable due to bloating but it’s tolerable. I had a c-section as well and this is easier I think. But keep in mind everyone is differently. Good luck to you!
