    For Real?

The first thing that goes is water weight and some of us carry A LOT of it..esp obese people. I had to do two week liquid diet prior to surgery and after the first couple days it really wasn't that bad and by the 2nd week i wasn't even hungry. Good luck!
  2. Yesterday I went to my first Weight Loss Support group and I absolutley loved it. It's great to get support from fellow weight loss surgery patients and it's great to speak face to face about their experiences. Methodist Health System has several weight loss support groups in Dallas, Richardson and Mansfield. USMD has meetings in Arlington. I don't work for the hospital nor am I affiliated with them, I just thought this information was too good not to share with my fellow bandsters. Check out the links for more info: Classes & Events USMD - Your Physician Owned Hospital Serving Arlington, Texas and the surrounding area

    Pain on left side

Well, I have to say that I was trimming my yard with a light weedeater (less than 7 lbs) and now my rib cage hurts even worse. I didn't even get 5 minutes in. I definitely have to call the surgeon tomorrow because I'm worried. To me, I shouldn't be hurting. I can't even think about exercising because of the pain. I also stopped losing weight. I lost 10 lbs in the first week and have stopped all together. UGH!
  4. I am having a really hard time and just wanted to express how I was feeling to people that understand. I'm almost 6 weeks pregnant and couldn't be happier, except for the weight gain thing. I haven't finished losing my weight and right now I'm terrified. I had to get completely unfilled, no morning sickness, but it's as if the moment I conceived my band became too tight. I was getting stuck with EVERYTHING I ate. I have already gained 4 pounds. I know that doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm freaking out. I have been so hungry, I wake up needing to eat something. his morning I had an anxiety attack and I can't do this, it's not healthy for me (or the baby)to be so stressed about my weight. I'm trying to relax and calm down.... How did you guys accept this, or did you? :smile2:
  5. You're not alone! It's hard, even when you KNOW that it's healthy to gain some weight. I'm at 27 weeks and have managed to keep my weight gain to about 13 pounds so far. That said, my doc's visit yesterday was the first where I saw a big jump-- 5 pounds in a month. It was hard. I'm also looming up on 250, which is another mental block. I started at 322, so I KNOW I'm still WAY thinner than I was. For me, it helped to continue to plan meals and menus and workout as my body allows (starting to run into limitations there.) I don't obsessively count calories, though I check periodically to see that I'm not WAY off base. I've stuck to a moderately bandster friendly diet and have intentionally enjoyed some non-bandster favorites that don't work when my band is tight. HOWEVER, I'm eating more things like big leafy salads (light on the dressing) and raw veggies that I have trouble with otherwise. I'm enjoying a few more whole grain breads and other HEALTHY options that would otherwise give me trouble. My latest obsession is a broccoli coleslaw recipe from an online blog--I eat it by the bowl, sometimes as lunch itself. By enjoying the healthy stuff that doesn't work with the band, I feel like I'm getting a treat in exchange for the weight gain. The sugary/fatty stuff doesn't make me feel good, so I avoid it. It's hard. And depressing. And crazy-making. You're not at ALL unreasonable for finding the prospect of weight gain terrifying. But you DID THE RIGHT THING by getting the unfill! Don't forget that a good 20-25 pounds of pregnancy weight gain is baby-related, NOT counting maternal fat gain! That doesn't mean you'll be 20 pounds lighter the day after babe is born, but you'll be on your way. AND you have your band. It WILL work after baby is here! Good luck to you. There are lots of successful bandsters who have had babies, lost the weight, and gone on to reach goals. You can be one too!

    Stomach Size:

I had major complications in the past 8 months, port revision, total unfill and then slippage and taken out July 8. How long does it take for my stomach to return to normal? I am afraid to eat since I have been barfing for 8 months. I lost 30 lbs and want to keep it off. May look into weight watchers.
  7. Has there been any changes, stress, lack of sleep, etc? These things can hinder weight loss. Not staying properly hydrated? Even not eating enough? <--- Contrary to belief, yes, you can gain/stall not eating enough. But that's another topic (unless you want to go there, let me know). Is there too much sodium in your diet? that'll cause water retention. About to start that time????? Also, doesn't help.
  8. Thanks! My cycle is going to happen in 3wks, and as for the sodium, I'm not a fan of salt so that will be minimal. I weighted myself again today and the scale kept going up, then down, then up again. I'm planning on just having a shake for breakfast, dinner and a light lunch and see if anything budges. I'm just sad since I have my pre op consult tomorrow and wanted to be writhing 5lbs of my goal. I usually drink between 90 to 140 oz of water daily. Soooo I dnt know what could be it! But I'll def. look into your recommendations!

    Pre op weight loss stall

I don't necessarily have any tips for you but I'm in the exact same boat. I'm supposed to lose a certain amount before my pre op appointment May 12 and I've been doing everything right yet I've remained stuck right around the same weight for over a week. I guess under regular circumstances that would be a fairly normal weight loss plateau but I'm on a deadline here. These last five pounds are killing me. It's so stressful and frustrating!

    Drinking while eating

Drinking with meals is one of many general things you will have to learn for yourself....like crushing pills, some can some can't...or carbonated drinks... The band is adjustable and each individual responds differently.... early on, I was told to start to get used to not drinking with meals....to drink right up to a meal, then nothing during or 30-40 minutes after....I asked why, and like many "Rules" was basically told I will find out as I get closer to the Green Zone...that these "rules" will make sense sooner or later..... Sure enough, I did find out why....bottom line, it is not a question whether I am told I could or could not, it is that the way my band has been adjusted for the last 3+ years, I CANNOT drink while eating....it is IMPOSSIBLE without dire circumstances.... food is in my pouch, slowly passing through the band...there is just so much my pouch will/can hold.....IF I introduce Water, it will instantly increase the volume of what is there....it will have no where to go but right back up and out! Not to mention the pain....I would assume dilating-stretching my pouch.... As far as drinking after eating, I have to wait, and take small sips from time to time...until I can tell when it is safe to drink again....I have had food come back up 20 minutes after eating because I drank too soon.... Having said that...I do not have to crush my meds/pills, and I can drink carbonated beverages (carefully)...others cannot....so you see everyone has different tolerances to different things, and it will only be after time (mnths/years?) that you learn a lifestyle that best suits you and your weight loss..... But in the beginning, your best option is follow your Dr.'s guidelines, until you have those "A-Ha" moments...even then I tell my Dr. what I discovered....
  12. So tomorrow I meet the surgeon the gastrologist referred me to. They were when I made the appointment on what to expect. They were confusing on what is really going to happen tomorrow they received my endoscopy results so I guess we will meet, talk an then file paperwork to the insurance company and then play the waiting game. At least I am taking baby steps right? I hope my insurance will cover this. I don't think I can do another diet alone but I feel miserable at this weight.
  13. I had surgery 10-17-13. Still haven't reached my weight loss goal. I got down to 192. That's it. I've gained 40lbs back and am now at 226. I can not get my behavior right. Drinking Water is like torture. I'm most likely dehydrated and exhausted.

Pain in left chest area - just left of center

The gas can be surpisingly painful . If I didn't know better I would have sworn I was having a heart attack. I was banded May 18 th and got my first fill June 16th . It feels too tight to me. I have had some pretty tuff gas pains the past week. I am almost scared to eat . I have lost 32 lbs. (counting the pre-band diet). I haven't eat any bread or other problem foods I was warned about . I am keeping Gas-X in business too ! lol. I am happy with the weight loss and very concerned about the gas pains. I have done a few searches and we are not alone with the weird gas pains. However, that doesn't make me feel any better . This is band is controlling me for sure. I tolf my doc....." This thing will talk back to you and LOUDLY ! :blushing: if abused. I hope we toughen up and learn to live with it . Right now .......I am not too happy . Reading everyones advice has been very hepful too. I am not much on posting messages but I check here everyday. I am hurting now with gas pains and ........Well , Like Bill Clinton said: " I feel your pain !" I have not had any acid reflux or even came close to throwing up either. I have been on a very bland diet too. I will experiment with what I can and can't eat and just see how it goes. Good luck and keep the Gas-X handy.
  15. I am allowed to try solid foods as of today. I am still a bit nauseous and belching a lot and my since of smell is crazy. But for the most part I feel pretty great. However, I am starting to get hungry. I would like the choices I make to really count. Flavor that is. So, does anyone have any ideas they would like to share? Breakfast? lunch? dinner? I really wish there was a book out there for us like Weight Watchers has. Meal ideas for each stage.
  16. I have been eating lots of greek yogurt. Yoplait makes a good one with 14 grams of Protein. I also baked some tilipa last night. Any white fish doesn't need pureed and I added some lemon pepper seasoning. I am planning on having refried Beans this week and cottage cheese and of course mashed potatoes. I have been trying to load up on protein and need to pull out my eating well after weight lost surgery cookbook. I didn't look at it through the clear/full liquid stages.
  17. lol I went to youtube and typed in (what does 5lb of fat look like) and it is shocking .....great motivation though 80 lb is GREAT actually AMAZING! I just can imagine someone not noticing 80lb thats the weight of a child ..WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH THESE PEOPLE? Great job PUGS! laddie, I love it to when my wrist feel smaller (I’m probably just dehydrated) but it makes me feel so petite. and for a son to give a compliment that is an accomplishment all of its own!
  18. Please don't panic you are going to be ok, i felt a lot of the same feelings you felt..I had that same thought in my head "how could I have done this to myself" I was not happy the first week..not happy at all, i had this horrible pain in my shoulder that lasted for 2 weeks I thought I was going to have to live with it for the rest of my life but it went away. I did not have the symptoms you wrote on number 1. but I bet it is normal because of the hernia they fixed. Give it time you will get better. just stay calm, take your pain medication..sleep as much as possible. you will be able to eat again I promise you!! You will be able to eat, it's still work to lose weight even with the band, but it is a tool and if you use your tool you will have success. i know i told you to sleep but walking might relieve some of the gas you are experiencing. What you are feeling is normal you're going to get better in no time at all that discomfort, pain, fear will all be a distant memory...write it down so you can looks back and maybe help others on this site later who may experience the same symptoms you have now.
  19. Hi all, I wanted to introduce myself to the community. My name is Jez. I'm a 32 year old female from the NY/NJ area. I had my first appointment last July, but since I'm prone to impulsive decision making, I took a year to decide on surgery and finally agree to move forward with the Lap Band surgery. I went back to my surgeon's office yesterday and my surgery is now scheduled for July 14th. I'm 5'6 and 226 lbs. 40 of which were added in the last year and a half as a result of anti depressants...which were prescribed to me because of my issues with weight!! Totally counter productive. I spent all of my teen years and college in good shape. Then I started to slowly gain weight and was finally diagnosed with PCOS. I have a total of about 80 or 85 to lose. I'm both incredibly excited and incredibly scared. I'm looking forward to posting here and reading all of your success stories and advice
  20. Hi everyone! I'm new to this community - I was banded almost 2 wks ago on 10/1/09. I'm 31 and my highest weight was 297 - I'm down to 279 as of 10/9/09. Who knew a liquid diet would be that successful?! I'm struggling right now NOT to eat - I am craving a salad. I don't even care if it has salad dressing! I started a blog (the good, bad and ugly - all of it), so feel free to stop by and offer up ideas, support, etc. It can be found here: Following my Dreams, One by One I can't wait until my first fill - I haven't been hungry until today but holy cow, it's awful! Thanks in advance for all your support. I'm just having one of those rough days. xo, Adrienne

    Discouraged

I had surgery on July 25 and had my first fill on August 20th. It's been rough. Those first few weeks I was sore and tired, but hungry. I was 3/4 of a pound over what I was when I had surgery. My doctor gave me a hard time about it. This morning I weighed myself and I'm down 2 pounds below my lowest weight so I was happy. Not feeling restriction yet, but I'm more active. I'm riding bike again (haven't done that in probably 10 years!) and walking more. My clothes are getting looser so I know things are happening. Hang in there and good luck!
  23. Hi, i would be interested to know how you coped with the surgery, did it cause a flare up, and were you able to take your usual pain meds, i am on tramadol, gabapentin and paracetomol and if i dont take them i cant stand the pain, i have amytryptilene, and alupurinol for gout too, plus many more meds, i have several chronic diseases, am hoping less weight will help my joints and enable me to go swimming, the only exercise i can do, thanks, xx
  24. Not sure when you were banded, or how much restriction you have, but I assume it was recent and very little in your band..... Even after I had my first fill, which was 4 cc, I GAINED weight....what did I expect to happen? My band was not yet fully adjusted... When I saw my Dr., he laughed when I got on the scale... He referred to the Yellow-Green-Red chart o the wall and said THIS is our goal....to get you to that place....until then, it's all a struggle just as if I was not even banded.... And he was 100% correct.....he did get me to that place on the chart, and since then it has all been EASY ! No more struggles with old fashioned dieting or controlling hunger, just like they advertised.....
  25. Aspiring Bikini Model. If I could just lose all of this weight, haha. Thanks for the response. I'm just worried about what it will look like. I wish there was a scars thread on here, so I could have some sense. There are not enough photos on Instagram. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
