  1. I was sleeved 10/2 and am down about 28 pounds post-op plus 10 pre-op and 10 on the 6 mo. supervised diet. My old clothes are starting to look ridiculous - I LOVE IT! NSV a couple weeks ago when for the first time in many years I didn't have to ask for a seat belt extender on the airplane! So proud of all of you fellow Octosleevers!

    Oct. 15, 2012 Sleeve Date

What are your NSV that you have had so far?? I have went down one pants size and am wearing shirts that I haven't worn in over 5 years. I feel like I have a new wardrobe. Another NSV it feels great is being able to stand for the entire time during the worship part of church. For the last year I have struggled to stand for periods of time due to pain in my back from my weight. My back pain is pretty much gone!!! I am so thankful for my sleeve.

The best NSV? My son saying "Momma, I can put my arms all of the way around you now." Do I regret surgery? HECK NO, not with a reaction like that.

Nervous - I Begin My Pre-Op Diet Today

Rachel (and all on a liquid diet pre-op), you girls rock. I love Rachel's 'tude... take it hour by hour, moment by moment and do what you can to just get through it. That was the hardest challenge prior to surgery. You can do it guys and gals. And wow, I have to smile at how far you have come and with a great 'tude too! Kudos to you! That's a huge NSV! xx
  5. How are you doing? Weight loss? Nsvs? Ups downs struggles? Regrets?

Great nsv. I cant wait for my favorite boots to fit again; they have gotten way too tight.

    Nsv

I was in the store today and realized that I had slip on shoes that no longer fit! I felt like I needed to curl my toes to keep them from falling off. It was a good feeling but they are my favorite shoes and still in good shape! I normally just wear flip flops around the house (I work from home) or walking shoes if I am out exercising Not sure I want to buy new shoes yet as I have a lot to lose yet. I think I'll just wear my walking shoes when I go out.

    Funny Nsv

I use the Xbox Kinect to workout. It has a recognition feature that signs you in. Well the last few weeks it wasn't signing me in. Then it dawned in me...maybe it doesn't recognize me! I reprogrammed the ID and now it's working fine. The XBOX DIDN'T RECOGNIZE ME!! Lol
  11. My wife brought in a picture today of my brothers wedding, where I was standing near the top at around 17 years old. We were pointing and talking about the best man in the center. And then I point over a couple to the right and say quite certainly that I do not remember that person. My wife breaks out laughing and can't stop. I don't get it and am like what's so funny. She says that person standing there is you, silly. Now what is the point and how does this relate to a possible NSV you ask? Well, there have been a number of posts that say their mind has not caught up with their body after losing weight. In this case, I have already mentally accepted my new body sans 150 lb later. Granted I was probably about 240 and shorter in the picture, but still, it got me thinking. I am ready to be a thin person staring back in the mirror because my mind no longer recognizes the fat person staring back in photos.
  12. First and foremost, I'm going back to work 14 days post-op COMPLETELY pain/soreness free! Second, when I was getting dressed this morning I put on a shirt that I haven't been able to wear in 2 years, my pants feel like MC Hammers parachute pants, and my belt that had several notches left 2 weeks ago doesn't fit anymore! I LOVE THIS SURGERY!!!!!! (Now if only I could figure out how to stay this energized all day lol)

    Jean Size Down

Good for you! I know how that NSV feels.
  14. Since being banded I have discovered that I love cycling. I commute to work twice a week, 60km round trip, and recently bought my first road bike. Two days after my purchase, a work colleague passed away as a result of cancer. His last weeks at home were made possible by the wonderful support of our local palliative care service. So when I heard that there was a bike ride to raise funds for this great service, I was very quick to sign up, along with my husband. We're not sure what possessed us, but for some crazy reason we signed up for the 120km ride (about 75 miles, I believe)! Husband also bought a road bike and with just a few weeks, we really ramped up the training on them. We both have hybrids and have done plenty of riding, but road bikes are a whole new ball game. Between buying our bikes and today's ride, we have had to learn how to ride road bikes, tried several saddles and worked hard to get some kilometres under our belts. We set off at 8am this morning with the slow 120km riders. There were later start times for the fast 120km, slow and fast 60km riders. The sun shone beautifully all day as we made our way around the first 60km circuit. We quickly fell behind most of the other riders, primarily because my husband still isn't confident going downhill. Initially I was a bit unhappy at such a slow pace (we had agreed to ride together so we could support each other the whole way). I made sure I was drinking regularly, eating frequently, including bananas and cycling power gels. We also got in a nice coffee at the half way mark! Many of the slow 120km group was still at the half way mark when we arrived and the organisers encouraged us all to start our second circuit with the fast 60km group. I'm pleased to say that husband and I held our ground well with this group of fresh riders right up until we had to come down a big hill and again, my husband slowed right down. Although I was initially annoyed by having to slow down to stay with my husband, I quickly realised that he was, in fact, doing me a huge favor, because it meant we were able to pace ourselves and reach the end. Without him, I would almost certainly have gone out too hard and burned out before reaching the end. The last 10km were a bit of a struggle but the exhileration and sense of achievement as we rode across the finish line together was incredible. And we had played our small part in a great event which raised more than $25,000 for our local palliative care service. 18 months ago I struggled to ride five kilometres around town. Now, minus 63kg and with a whole lot more confidence and fitness, the sky is the limit! Pic is of me immediately after we finished.

Funny Nsv - It Wasnt A "fun Zone" Mirror

Congrats on the wonderful NSV. You deserve it!
  16. So for the last week I've been in the process of moving....packing the old place, cleaning, movers, unpacking at new place. Anyway, my family helped me pack and my sister packed my scale over a week ago. at first I was irritated because I weighed at least every other day....and then without it, I started to like it. I felt like I've been losing again (had a stall for over a week) and feeling like with all the packing, lifting, etc., I felt like I was getting in extra exercise. So yesterday I caught myself in a full length mirror and I stopped and did a double take...is that me?!? No, wait a minute where am I? ...am I really seeing what I'm seeing? No, this must be one of those stretch mirrors. Yep, that's me. Wow my legs are looking a lot smaller. Wow I'm starting to look kinda good. Seriously, these are all the thoughts that went thru my was in a matter of seconds. I love the NSV's!!!! Unpacked the scale this morning and down 5lbs...love the scale victories too

This afternoon I droves husbands car to go do the shopping. I was getting back in the car at the store and snapped my seat belt and realized I had never moved the seat belt extender from the passenger seat where I normally sit in his car to the drivers seat I had no problem buckling the seat belt and had plenty of extra room. I was thrilled!!! Good bye extender. I never want to see you again. 65 pounds down as of Thursday!!!!

    Rewards...

Still in pre-opVILLE - I go to my seminar on Monday. I really hope to learn more about the time frame for everything soon!! I'm a list maker by nature. Since all I can think about lately is my weight loss plan, I've made a list of NSVs I hope to achieve, and made some rewards to go along with them for motivation. I also made a list of scale related victories and rewards for that. Not sure if everyone does this, or just makes one list or the other, or doesn't make a list of rewards - but I'm a lifelong spoiled only-child, and I like rewards. And I need to start thinking about rewards that have absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOD. Anyway, thought I'd share. Hope you enjoy! Feel free to steal any of these. NSV achievement/reward: see my toes - pedicure touch my toes while seated on the floor - new gym shoes lose my double chin - buy a new necklace see my collarbones - buy a new top to show them off run a mile w/o walking - new gym clothes walk up 5 flights of stairs - new shoes (of any kind) *5 flights because I park in a garage 5 flights up. I hate waiting for the dang elevator anyway!! get on an actual bike - go on a bike ride with my Daddy! sit Indian style comfortably - go to a yoga class cross my legs at the knee - buy a dress (for the first time in yearssss) Weight loss achievement/reward: *yes, I have a lot to lose! -50lbs - facial -100lbs - massage -150lbs - Road Trip! (no idea where!) -200lbs - new mattress, new couch and chairs in living room -250lbs - bathing suit and a passport! @ GOAL -------- I'M GOING TO JAMAICA!!! And it will be my first plane ride. I would love to hear any suggestions that anyone has as well! I really can't wait to start checking some of these off!

    Who Knew......????

Wahoo, rock on girl! Love the NSVs!!!!!
  22. The last time I lost a significant amount of weight on my own was around 1994! I got down to about 240 doing Atkins and exercising everyday for about a year. Of course, it didn't last, but that's the last time I saw the 250's! Well, I broke into the 250's today at 259! About 44 lbs down from my highest and surgery was in August! Not what I should be, but I'm sure not what I used to be! Woohoo!

    Who Knew......????

Awesome NSV! I know exactly how you feel. This morning I brought a size 18 petite into the change room by mistake (was reaching for the 20's). I tried them on and they fit! Of course I had to buy them! At Christmas I was a size 24. I still cant believe that my body is getting smaller.

    Super Nsv

Well, I am 3 weeks out today and have lost 15 pounds so far, but I have gone down 2 pants sizes and 2 shirt sizes. I saved a pair of jeans that were my favorite (pre-super obese days) and By the time I tried them on, they were too small. Just gonna have to try and get a new pair.
  25. That's an awesome and amazing NSV... and it's great that the uniform lady went to bat for you as well!!! You should be super proud of yourself! You are rocking that sleeve!!!
