Hello, How did it go with Dr. Tavakkolizadeh , I'm meeting with him and Phylis on Wednesday, I've had my psyche down, sleep study done, what else do I have to look forward to besides the barium swallow? I have mild sleep obstructive apnea, however the sleep doctor said significant weight loss would help in the notes, psyche approved me....any help would be appreiated -
I did it! But I need help!!
Wallybobsluv replied to Wallybobsluv's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks for your information & advice Chellz423. You appear to have had to go through much more testing than I am going through. But then, I have already done a lot of these tests in the past year, so I guess I am lucky. And I had my sleep studies as well, which unfortunately, shows that I have both Obstructive & Central Sleep Apnea, so, although the weight loss could take away the Obstructive Apnea, I will have to sleep with my Bi Pap Machine for the rest of my life! The only testing I have to go through is the Psych & Nutritional Evaluations, An Upper GI & an H Pylori & an RMR test. Seminar Date: August 26th Surgeon Consult: August 28th Psych Evaluation: Sept 2nd Upper GI Scheduled: Sept 9th Nutritional Evaluation Scheduled: Sept 12th H Pylori & RMR Scheduled: Sept 25th Then, send off for surgery approval -
did anyone cheat on the post op diet?
redone replied to dreamskin's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dreamskin, I sooo agree with your last post!!!! They do not help with what to eat. Shoot most of us got here because we make bad food choices. I don't feel like I'm making the best choices I can, but I don't know what elase to do. Like they tell you to eat cream soup. Man do you know how much fat and crap is in that stuff? I'm at a loss so now I just have 3-4 protien skakes a day. I know I'll get board with that real fast. What to do????? -
Falling apart
Libbyjane1976 replied to AngelWhisper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Awwww i'm sorry to hear about your loss. I know what it's like to lose a grand parent you were close to. My grandma died when I was 17 and she was the rock of our family and I was devastated. Just remember to cherish the time you had with her and know that she remains with you in spirit. Now as for the other, you didn't come all this way, go through with the decision to get your lapband to fail. You came to succeed. Quit eating the crap food, throw it out, start buying healthier foods. At least if you are going to eat, eat something healthy! Next with your knee being the way it is can you do any light walking? Or maybe like a stationary bike? Join curves if you are too embarassed to join a gym. I don't blame you for feeling that way. i too would not want some skinny ass aerobic chick staring at me either. Do you have a friend who would workout with you? Maybe the 2 of you could figure out something. If you are totally unable to do anything until your knee heals at least make sure you eat healthier. Good luck, things will start to change! You didn't come all this way for nothing! -
Banded 12-21-09 in NJ Anyone else?
fhce13 replied to fhce13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You probley are not that far from me. Good luck on your running. Due to a severe knee injury 14 years ago I had my one knee replaced in September last year. Infact, that is why my insurance company approved my weight loss surgery. I am limited to the amount of activity I can do the rest of my life. I walk quite a bit and can ride a bike on level surfaces. I had been an avid horse back rider since age 4 but had to give that up also. Leslie -
I have extremely thin hair already and will have surgery on June 3rd. I am so worried about losing what hair I do have! It's good to know that not everyone loses but I have a feeling that I will. Then I will be bald. I'm not far from it now!

Medi weight loss clinic diet!
ElfiePoo replied to esv2000's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Is it the same as "Medical Weight Loss"? I went on it a few years back. Seems to be controlled calorie (worked out to be between 1100-1200), low carb and low fat...but not "OMG I'm dying here" *low*. It was ok. . -
This show played a part in my decision to have WLS. Seeing the struggles and the victories helped me to better understand my relationship with food. But now that I’ve had my VSG, I’m paying attention through a more watchful eye and I’m beginning to wonder how realistic some of these things are, specifically the weight loss goals that the patients are given. On the most recent show, there was a lady who was 1 year out and the doctor told her she should still be losing 15 pounds a month but the more I read here and other places that seems like a tall order for someone who is even 4 months out. I was never given specific weight loss goals after surgery but I know every program is different. I was even surprised that I wasn’t given a goal before I even started the process like Dr. Now gives his patients. What are your thoughts? Is “My 600-lb life fact or fiction? Were you given weight loss goals by your surgeon?
-
My dr told me before I was even banded not to expect much weight loss in the first 6 mos. Now I know I read on hear people who have lost 50lbs in 2 mos and I so hope that can be me, but I know everyone is different & everyone will lose different. Just keep ur head up try to eat right & maybe increase ur daily workouts to 45 mins. As my family tells me...u have done the hard part (having the surgery) now ever thing else should be a gimme!!!!!
-
i also had the same concerns. my biggest fear was feeling nauseated. i did not want to deal with that. i have no9t been nauseated one single time. i have had a very easy ride. my surgery was nov., 17. i have felt great for the most part. once i was dehydrated and felt bad. i wasnt aware that losing hair could happen until i read about on here. i started losing haair about a month ago. i always thought if i started losing hair i would die. just die. i am dealing with it and not stressing. it will grow back. before surgery i had to make myself NOT eat. now, i have to make myself eat. i get hungry but have to get my Protein. it is actually pretty darn easy for me and i was addicted to coke and sugar and carbs. the pre op liquid diet for me was not fun. i survived it and it wasnt as bad as i dreaded. would i do this again? hell ya!!!!

Band To Sleeve. Is It All It's Cracked Up To Be?
hrtgoeson replied to kate33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I've only had my sleeve two weeks but it really is a whole new world. I've gone 3 weeks without throwing up, which is a record with the band. Even though I'm only on full liquids I could have issues iwth the band when it came to eating something like yogurt. I can have breakfast in the morning without have to down 24 oz of water first to make sure food could even go down. I just feel like this is what weight loss surgery was supposed to be all along. I had my band 3 years but I was miserable with it. Fills, unfills, re-fills, re-unfills...neverending vicious cycle. I will never recommend the band to anyone. Sleeve ALL THE WAY! -
Band To Sleeve. Is It All It's Cracked Up To Be?
BeanieandRosie'smom replied to kate33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi Kate33! I can't really answer your questions, BUT I currently have a Lap-Band (that I hate), I got it in Mexico (which I loved!) and I am 26 years old! I haven't run into too many "younger" people yet, so it's nice to see you here! I have some of the same questions as you. I have a date, and a surgeon, but I am still apprehensive! I am scheduled for August 11, in TJ with Dr. Almanza. I had my first surgery in TJ with Dr. Rodriguez and had a great experience. I have thrown up so much that I need an endoscopy this Thursday to look at scar tissue in my esophagus... I was banded in August of 2010. I have found a place here in Seattle who will do patients from Mexico. My American doctor told me that in this economy it would be stupid for weight loss surgeons not to see patients with procedures done in Mexico. (Many were trained by the Mexican doctors!) He said it is just losing them business to turn away potential patients because they were banded or sleeved in Mexico. He said initially he thought it would change patients' minds about going down to Mexico, but it hasn't deterred it--and it's much cheaper. Anyway! Nice to find you on here, if you'd like to talk more or exchange stories, here's my email: erikaj@aol.com <3 Erika -
WAAY to fast- and kinda freaky
juliarh replied to cheechtrish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know, while I am in a completely different circumstance than you are, I kinda ended up just like you -- My husband is a diplomat and in June we move to Paraguay in South America. I thought to myself, this would be a great time to get my weight loss surgery done. I had initially wanted the lap band. So we scheduled an appointment with the surgeon who's done the most weight loss surgeries and he said, "I don't do bands, but you can choose the sleeve or the bypass." Well, I knew I didn't want the bypass for the dumping and other stuff, but I had never really considered the sleeve. I read up on it and decided, ok, I'll get the sleeve. We went back to the doctor, and he said, ok how about in 2 weeks. Yep!! I literally had to start my pre-op diet THAT day. It was crazy. And then I went in and all is history. So, you CAN do this!! From what I've read on the boards, Aetna seems to be easier to deal with -- so go for it -
PB's when where why and how
kiz replied to banderoo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had my band for close to six months, and I'm beginning to feel like the lone non pb'er, not that I'm complaining. Twice, I've been stuck enough to slime a few times, but the food went down. Both times happened at home, and had I been out to eat, I don't think I would have gotten to that point, because I wouldn't have pushed it. My stuck episodes were both my doing. The first one was with Chinese Chicken and Broccoli. The broccoli was very firm and the chicken seemed a little stringy, but it tasted so good, I kept eating...than I overate. My nose ran, I sighed, I hiccupped, but not having having those "stop eating" cues before, I took one more bite. Yikes, it wasn't pleasant. I began to burp, and it was painful. I chewed a papaya/pineapple pill, slimed twice, and it was over. The second time, I decided to drench my cereal in milk and it caused the cereal to go down too quickly. I slimed once, and that was it. I carry my papaya/pineapple pills with me, and if I'm at a restaurant and the meat or fish I'm eating starts to feel a little heavy in my pouch area, I chew a pill, wait a couple of minutes and am mindful to eat a little slower and chew a little better. I think my band must be a little looser than some, but for me, it's better that way. After all the posts I've read about overfills, slips, erosion, and reflux, I want to try to keep my band just tight enough to help me with my weight loss, but not so tight, I'm having trouble eating a pretty normal diet..just a lot less of it, and with healthier choices. -
Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor 6 weeks in and lost
NurseShay replied to ladytru84's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hello... I'm 25 also & started at 380 and last I checked was down to 360. Sorry to hear that you're struggling with your band but on the bright side you're still very early in the game I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. 30lbs is an awesome weight loss for 4 or 5wks! Its not uncommon to have mini stalls in wt loss this is all so new to your body. I'm very recently banded (4/14) but I have a lot of issues with food & I know it will be a day by day process to change my relationship with food. I'm busy & I've never been an excercise addict also so I can see this being a difficult journey without support so maybe we can encourage each other along the way. Sometimes accountability & encouragement from someone who knows how you're feeling goes a long way. Feel free to pm me. =) best wishes! ~Shay -
Day 11 Postop...somewhat discouraged
Mrs Firth replied to jbaker5d's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Feeling glum when you have been brave enough to put yourself through SURGERY in order to try and manage your weight and health better, and you have strived hard to follow your diet plan, and you have been admonished by your doctor (!!!! how dare s/he!!!!) for your pre-op weight loss, and you are being deprived of all the ways you soothed your moods with food previously, well feeling glum sounds absolutely normal and acceptable to me! And so you reached out and asked for support....well done. What all this says to me is that you are being human, normal, acting in your best interest, are persevering, are trying to cope with temporary disappointment, and are going to be ok, because you have the self-caring to ask for support. Well done, but not because of the seven pounds but because of your honesty and dedication. You now need to look at yourself and glow with pride at your courage and tenacity mixed with vulnerability and authenticity. Time.....healing.....getting there....and you will, I am sure. Thanks for sharing. I for one have felt glum, angry, despondent, wondered why on earth I submitted my otherwise healthy body to surgery, why I can't just get on with it without all this, felt helpless, bordering on hopeless....then elated, proud, happy, energised....and then bored, forced to look at my weight gaining behaviour, forced to be brutally honest with myself....and accepting that a body is a body and has its own means of rebelling, doing things its own way, being complex and difficult to comprehend...and still having faith that in the LONG TERM it is going to be ok and it will work. It has been 23 days since surgery and I have stagnated, but this WILL change because this is how I have previously given up on dieting, and with a lap band implanted in me, well it is drastic, and I can't give up....so I won't...and that is why I had it put in me, because KEEPING GOING is what has always defeated me. Thank you so much for your honesty. Lynda -
I'm on the dreaded pre-op diet now, and I'm not doing too well. My saviors have been broth and sugar-free Jello. I'm cutting down the broth to reduce sodium, but I ate way too many jello cups today. They are sugar-free and 10 calories a cup. I seriously must have had 10 cups today. Is that way too many? Could this interfere with my weight loss? I'm really starting panic about next week's surgery now!

This is ridiculous and I'm pissed.

My Dr. recommended that I take Zinc and Biotin in case I noticed hair loss. Might want to check that out with your Dr. -

NEED help reviving my motivation
terrydumont46 replied to Ricksgal_1996's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
i don't know much about the sleeve but if you would like to try what bandsters do is just eat 1/2 to 1cup of food 3 times a day. Protein being the biggest portion of your meal. we eat healthy and exercise. for your wt. loss to continue you need to either cut your calorie intake or up your exercise intensity.keep a food log. try and see where you are eating to many calories. you maybe eating more than you think you are. get a scale. weigh your food. good luck. here's to a healthy you in the new year -
I had my usual New Season Soprano's Party tonight which included Baked Ziti and Cannoli (what else?) What a great first show!!!!! Chris S. PS. For those of you wondering about Joseph Gannascoli who plays Vito Spatafore and his weight loss, which was mentioned alot on this show, he had Lap Band Surgery.

hey everyone i just registered on lapbandtalk.com today, therefore this is my first post! let me introduce myself: I am Tara, 22 years old, 5'5" and weighs 305lbs. I have JUST begun my journey, well actually I haven't even began it yet. Tomorrow is my first appointment with a weight loss doctor to start my 6 months of medically supervised weight loss. I am very excited about meeting my doctor and when I go tomorrow I am going to let him know that I am interested in the lap band surgery. I currently have a BMI of 50, and with my insurance you have to have a BMI of 40 or BMI of 35 + a comorbid disorder. Feasibly, I don't see me getting down from 305 to 240 (a 40 BMI) in six months. Does anybody else? So hopefully, after 6 months, I will still be eligble for the lapband. I've made a seminar date, though, already for the lapband procedure on June 18th. Wish me luck! And good luck to all those waiting your surgery and congrats to all of those who have already lost weight!

Congratulations on your weight loss and welcome to LBT! It's always wonderful to hear others awesome stories.

I just met with Dr. Phillips at Cedars to be considered for banding. I still have all the pre-op education and tests to go through but I would be interested to hear about your experience at Cedars. Congrats on making your decision and good luck with the weight loss.

new to the website :) HELLO!!
Bethanyblondie replied to go_big_girl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well, the weight loss center I went to two years ago has shredded my records since they were old. So now I have no formal records of my weight two years ago. Grr! How does one show "proof" that they've had a BMI of a certain range for 2 years if they don't have doctor's records or weight loss center records? I wonder if I just chronicle a detailed account of everything I've done and maybe find bank records to prove I was paying for the program if that would work? What do you guys think? Tara...do you have to have proof for your insurance that you've had a BMI of 40 for 24 months?
