I understand that there are stalls but does anyone gain while stalled? Just a little worried.

I was totally addicted to carbs. It was so bad that I could eat a pound of jelly Beans in an hour or tackle half a dozen donuts without a problem, except for the weight of course. My carb cravings caused many problems from back pain to acne, from weight gain to shortness of breath, not to leave out embarrassment when I realized that I had just emptied my host's candy dish or cookie tray all by myself. I got lucky and found a solution by changing my lifestyle. I'd like to hear from others about what they have done not to just conquer carb cravings, but to break the addiction. What did you do and how did it work? Hugh

Don't Weigh Myself?!?!?!?!?!
mosterhoudt replied to melissamiranda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good for you. I know how much our weight can fluctuate daily, so once a week is a great idea. I go in for my info meeting on Tuesday and I'm anxious! I want to look as good as I feel! Although, die to my weight gain, I don't feel as good as I used to! -
So many questions! (long post, sorry)
melzie_99 posted a topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I haven't been on this site in forever, so it's nice to be posting again. A little back story: I was banded in Jan 2011; starting weight for this journey was 278 and my lowest weight so far has been 165 (my goal; lasted about a day...lol). I'm normally somewhere in the 170-175 range and I'm happy with that. At any rate, I'm currently 5 months pregnant with my first child and just wanted to reconnect with others having band babies. I have been very fortunate that I have had minimal morning sickness and though my appetite was voracious during the 1st trimester I didn't really gain any weight. I was about 172 when I got pregnant and am 176 as of this morning so weight gain has been minimal, though it fluctuates depending on my food/fluid intake. SOO...on to the questions: how much weight did your OB's tell you was okay to gain? Because of my weight history my OB said he would love it if I stayed within the 10lb range though 20-25 would be acceptable for someone my size. If things continue the way they are currently that shouldn't be a problem, but I have to confess I have a history of being a little scale obsessed so it worries me a bit. Other than my belly and a slightly bigger chest I look pretty much the same thank God, so like I said I feel very fortunate that things are going so well thus far. Port: *sigh* I have a love hate relationship with my port. Before I got pregnant I spoke to my surgeon concerning my port; it's not very noticeable when I'm standing but it protruded horribly when I would lie down, especially if I was a bit bloated. He told me my protruding was minimal and that it was something he would revisit after I had a baby but to leave it alone for now. Fast forward about 8 months and it now seems as though my port actually tries to flip when I lie down due to my growing belly; it's not horribly uncomfortable but it looks and feels awful to the touch. For those of you who are further along or have already have babies, should I just expect this to get worse? I know my port is stitched to my muscles, but I have this awful fear it's going to tear and I just moved to a new area so I don't even know where the nearest gastric surgeon is located. Finally: appetite. I have not had any Fluid removed or added to my band in probably about a year and a half; I think I have somewhere between 6-7cc's in a 10cc band. Like I mentioned earlier I ate like a cow first trimester but now there are days where I have to force myself to eat and after about 3 bites I already feel myself getting full. I'm having a hard time getting enough fluids as well . I'm not feeling sick or anything and baby seems to be doing okay, but has anyone experienced this and had issues arise later on down the road? I've never been at a place expect for right after a fill where I have been able to eat the suggest 1/2-1 c of food and feel full; I'm curious to try one of those pouch test diets to see if I stretched it or something but I know now is not a good time for that. Did any of you ladies have trouble eating while pregnant, and did you OB's express any concerns about your caloric intake? How will you know if you're not getting enough, or will that fact that most of us probably started a bit overweight be enough to buffer any possible nutritional concerns for the baby? Sorry for such a long post, but I look forward to hearing what others have to say. Thanks in advance! -
I had gastric sleeve oct 29 2014 and still have about 50 pds to loose. I have an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and weakness in muscles. Anyway had a bad flare up and have been on 40 mg of prednisone for past month. I haven't gained any weight according to scale but I can tell in my clothes I have gained ... Very discouraged. I am praying that when I get off prednisone it will help. Has anyone experienced this ? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hello Stimpy, welcome back! You are a success story, believe that! Trust me we all fall for the sugar demon from time to time. What sets us apart from others though is that we have a tiny tummy that will help keep us from over eating and gaining significant weight back. It makes it a lot easier to get back to being right and not stressing over 10 lbs weight gains, etc. Let the Cookies go for now. The Holidays are approaching and you don't want to be caught up in a downward spiral with all the sugary treats staring you in the face. You are strong and I KNOW you can do it. You have already lost so much, and you are sooo close to the finish line. Let this time be for getting there instead of the latter. NOW GO GET EM! -
oh yes folks....get your tylenol ready for the headaches!!! I remember those days well. Thanks for the compliment Tres Chic....I remember all too well what it was like to be pre-op and it is nice to "give back". You will do so one day soon, too! Doriana....re. the weight gain....normal normal normal....don't forget your body will fluctuate a lot especially at the beginning as it gets "used" to things. How often are you weighing? I only weigh once a week and find that works much better for me than once a day.

Most of my weight gain was due to medical conditions/medication. Don't get me wrong, when I feel bored I still want to snack/graze but I now go for a walk and it seems to take away the boredom/hunger.

Hi, Was just wondering if we could have a pregnant mama check-in? How far along? How are you feeling? Any concerns? Weight gain? Boy or girl? Favorite thing about being pregnant?

Pregnant Mama Check-in
AngelEyesInNJ replied to annapatel's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
On Monday I'll be 31 weeks pregnant with my first child a little boy :-) I'm feeling great just tired....It's been a great pregnancy I can't really complain at all. Aside from sore breast and feeling tired I had no other symptoms. My favorite thing about being pregnant is being able to feel my little man moving around in my belly. My only concern is when am I going to deliver...I'm high risk because of my blood pressure so they are talking about inducing me sometime between 37-39 weeks. As for weight gain I am up 21lbs but didn't really start putting it on until maybe 20 weeks. -
6 month supervised weight loss
deana63 replied to deana63's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well the doctor submitted everything and the insurance company didn’t mention my weight gain...they did however say they needed more information before they will approve such as my A1Cs for the diabetes and my sleep study paperwork with my BIPAP settings. Please keep fingers crossed for me [emoji16] -
Yes, I just had surgery a month ago. After reading many posts here on BariatricPal I discovered that many, many people hit a stall at three weeks. My sleeve journey started in April or May 2017; it was at that time I first spoke with a weight management center in my local area. I weighed 209 pounds at the time (my highest recorded previous weight was 240, but I was able to drop a lot of weight on a combination of a Belviq and phentermine, but then the meds stopped working). Of course there are prerequisites to having the sleeve performed and I spent months satisfying all of the requirements. Around September or October 2017, I was concerned that if I stayed on a low fat, low carb diet that I would lose too much and no longer qualify for the surgery because my BMI was going to dip below 35 (I have comorbidities including sleep apnea). When I called my weight management center and discussed my concerns with them, they said that I didn’t have to be really strict with my diet because I still did not have a surgery date. Well, very foolishly, my diet became a free for all and I gained 20 pounds in a few months. Finally, on December 14, 2017, I met with my team and when the dietician saw the weight gain she immediately had me go on the pre-op liquid diet. I had weighed in at 229 pounds. My surgery was scheduled for 1/2/18, so I was on that pre-op diet over the holidays and for longer than the usual 2 weeks. In retrospect, I am grateful that my team made that decision and I am glad that I stuck with it because by the day of surgery I was back down to 209. Today I weighed 193.4 - that’s a total weight loss of 35.6 pounds in about 7 weeks. I think that’s outstanding!

Dehydrated/hopital/home

hi bedhead, - strong possibility that i could have been in a room near me - don't remember the room #, i will try and look it up, sounds interesting we might have been at SUNY when you were there. whats the infection you had - all better now i hope. Any comment about your electrolites, did they get them in order? every thing else going well i hope. curious on your opinions on the younger residents and nurses. Just wondering there service etc . actually since i've been home, i still am not feeling well with my whole drinking of problm. i feel again. i'm going on the road towards dehydration again - i don't understand why, but i seem like have a lot of trouble geting all my liquid (H20) I really don't want to end up at the SUNY Hotel again they continuelly stuffed me with various Vitamins, magnisium i mean, phosforus (msp) at thed hospitaland some say that stuff could help you gain weight. I'm trying to reasure myself that this is rational - i don't want to think i actually gained 6 lbs like i did, doing every properly, even througing up - throwing up dictionary - Webster new addition Then i get on the scale instead of not losing, or even remaining the same weight, I gained 6 lbs. not to cool Under most situations, i wouldn't be too upset about a little weight gain or no loss - but to have gained weight, thats beyound my understanding. I am raising my right hand that # i swear I will promise to drink, and drink more liquids. Cold is now on overtime from 24 hr flu to maybe at least 48 hours. Oh well, nice to hear from you Bedhead best wishes kathy -
My clinic say no weight gain. I'm freaking out about it as I haven't been good in what I've been eating lately. I gotta get back on track and stop eating myself out of surgery.

LapBand with Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy ?
Guest replied to a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I must've not seen this - cause I wouldve responded :biggrin1: Im very open about my usage of diet pills. I prefer Tenuate (generic) taken with a little food or protien shake preferbally around noon time. The pills are oblong so I break them in half and take just 1/2 a day - when needed. I might take one everyday for 4 or 5 days, then not take another one for 3, 4 days or even a week later. PRN - as needed. When I was first banded and discouraged in weightloss, I remember using the diet pills more often, maybe every day? cant remember. But I DO remember thinking that I would do whatever it takes to get the weight off - even if it was taking the diet pills WITH the band. As for now, I stay around 180 and when I feel a weight gain OR see that my eating has increased (esp. around my period) I pop the Tenuate. ALSO - if I dont have a bm in 3 days I will take gen peri-colace tablets for a couple of days to get things flowing . Dont mean to steal the thread topic, but I did want to repond to you. Im also very interested in reading about the other forms of WLS. So now there's a mini-bypass? __________________ Originally posted at www.lapbandtalk.com -
Nutritionist phone call weigh ins anyone?
Arabesque replied to Maryeuh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Be honest. How can they help you if you’re not. The change to your meds & the strange way in which we’re living could have contributed to your weight gain. Your dietician is there to support & guide you so take advantage of their services. I’m sure you want to get back on track. Good luck. -
@creekimp13 I must be missing something. I've seen many food confessions. Most of us have been honest about bad days and food choices. Some people have a fabulous metabolism. They can work a more moderate or slack program and still lose or maintain weight. Some have more risk factors for weight gain, They may have to follow a strict program. Years out, I don't think anyone cares how I eat.

Indeed, some of my "always thin" friends have been fighting against weight gain all their lives. They say that my eating now resembles theirs and there's nothing abnormal about it. When I pass up dessert or take more than half my meal home in a doggie bag, it looks no different from what they customarily do.

Birth control and weight gain
Aggiemae replied to ladytinkerbell's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I suspect that some of the weight gain is due to Over eating a using the birth control as an excuse. No oral hormone tx can cause a 15 pound weight gain. That being said there are people who suddenly gain a great deal of weight with implants and chemical IUDs. This is not a normal side effect. The cause should be ruled out even if you change methods, a visit to an endocrinologist might be in order. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Has anyone gained after surgery
FrankyG replied to Bakergrl214's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You're still filled with fluids from surgery - you likely gained several pounds just from that. The only thing you should be concerned about is healing and getting in Water and any liquid nourishment you're able to tolerate. Weight gain/loss is meaningless right now. Stay off the scale for at least the next few weeks unless you can accept that your body's priority right now is healing and that may mean lots of changes in weight - fluctuations up and down are really and truly pointless to worry about until later. -
Problems Going Early To Stages
GotItDoneInHarlem replied to tammyd0966's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to consider your new stomach as a new baby that has to be progressed SLOWLY. The food guidelines provided to us are to help our swollen and upset stomachs heal. Can you get down a few bites that aren't allowed? Probably. Will it cause damage or be a problem? Maybe. Should you talk to your Doctor? ABSOLUTELY! Try to stick to the diet so you heal properly and so that you don't being micro-stretching your stomach. The name of the game is to eat until full and not a drop more. That way you'll always fill up faster. If you stretch it out, you're going to run into plateaus and possible future weight gain. Stick to the program. It was designed this way for a VERY specific purpose. Just my 2 cents. J -
Hi, has anyone had a problem with weight gain and staying on when getting on birth control? I took the birth control out in july. I had a baby, and after the baby continued my weightloss down to 216, then got on BC that has caused me to gain weight at 248, after I took it out up until now I have fluctuated between 245-250, but cannot get back on my weight loss journey. I wanted to get down to 180 and then go for my tummy tuck. Anyone have any suggestions? It has been 6 months and I just cannot get it off ???? Sent from my SM-N920T using the BariatricPal App

5 Years Worth Of A Primary Care Physician Letter???????
PJ Geeser replied to change's topic in Insurance & Financing
I too was supposed to fax in my last 5 years of medical records to my surgeon before my initial consultation...I told the nurse that it would be a blank sheet...she said well if you havent been to a doctor you cant make up the records...but you will have to go in anyway for a checkup so the sooner the better as that can be the start of your 6 months of dr. supervised visits that most insurances require as mine does too. My doctor was thrilled to hear I was looking into WLS and had started the process and was behind me 100%. Knew I needed to have a checkup as it had been 5 years since my last child was born so went ahead and made all the appts including my first mammogram and am on my way with my 6 months of supervised visits. Everything came back good to excellent (believe it or not) ! I just want to do something about my weight before I have any major issues...we have LOTS of diabetes in my family and am hoping I can prevent it if at all possible. On a side note.....my personal doctor was not encouraging at all about having lapband and is really pushing me to have gastric bypass...well outright said I should have gastric because better results...That made me torn between the 2 surgeries. I read so many people frustrated on the boards here about not losing etc but also the good too. I know that goes with both surgeries...good and the bad. I think it will be lapband for me....I just hope I can do it with the aid of the band when my time comes. I have been trying to eat healthier, cut the sugars ... trying to cut soda which isnt going the best yet but hopefully by the time I can have surgery i will be there. In a nut shell Kristy...I dont think the 5 years of records is really a big deal. I think you will have previous records that will show your weight etc if they want to look at it. I think they just really want to see that it has been an ongoing issue for awhile and not just a recent weight gain. Keep the process going...there are lots of things to complete in the coming months so time does go fast. I have 4 month left of supervised visits and hoping it will be approved then. You can do it....good luck to you and keep us posted -
@@Kindle is right. The scale will drive you crazy. Especially this soon after surgery that "weight gain" could be the transition to soft food, Water weight, normal body fluctuations that come with being a female. Eat your Protein, drink your water and get your exercise. It will happen.

Male attention freaking me out
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to Beachsprite's topic in The Gals' Room
You're married, you're a mother and what does that mean? That you're no longer officially a woman? You've already done that one by bloating up, but you decided to give it up by losing weight. Men look at women. It's one of the things they do. Do you know that you're looking, too? How else would you notice that you're being noticed? If it really makes you want to turn and run, you'll be doing a lot of running and very little in the way of getting errands completed. As you continue losing, will it get 'worse?' You'll be noticed more? I promise it isn't terminal. It sounds, from your telling, that something changed when you were younger, hence, the weight-gain. You once were comfortable in your own body, but then hid it away under extra weight. Lots of people, women and men, have to adjust emotionally to losing weight and all that goes with it. You may have other things going on that compound it. Consider seeing a therapist, preferably one with knowledge of body issues. Your losing weight is a gift to yourself. It would be a shame not to enjoy it.
