  1. So I lost 13 pounds during the week of pre-op liquid diet and was feeling pretty good. Weighed in at 226 the morning of surgery. Came home the next day at 240! What the heck? I realize they had me on IV fluid the whole time, but 14 pounds worth? It's depressing to feel like I took a giant step backwards

Let's Check In November 2012 Sleevers!

Good Morning all you fabulous November sleevers! It's been awhile since I posted (Jan). Had my sleeve done on 19 Nov 2012. Highest weight in Feb 2003 was 235; lowest was 175 in 2010. Pre-op weight was 215; 210 after pre-op diet. Goal is 135, which will probably be about 10 lbs too much, but I know there will be some weight gain after the first year. As of Monday the 1st, I'm at 154.6 and have lost 59 inches. I wouldn't change a thing, 2nd best decision I've ever made (marrying hubby is 1st).

    I hate skinny Beotchs

I don't agree w some of you just because there skinny don't think they dont worry about weight gain ... You all feel the need to think its something else you do have skinny ppl that worry just because the see fat ppl and that the reality but it's hard to put yourself in their shoes because some use aren't there yet but I've been called skinny I worry about my weight but a person that doesn't kno me would think other wise because I'm skinny I think we should be mindful of others we hate when stereo type us for being fat and we do it to skinny ppl for being skinny

    Day 1 Post Op!

Well, as soon as the pain meds start to fade you will feel like you have been run over by a truck... but welcome!! The best advise I can give is get up and walk! I am on Day 12 post op and my surgery was mid-day....by evening I was starting to feel pretty bad so I actually asked to get up at around 5 am to take some laps around the hospital floor. That was the best thing I could have done! Everytime I started feeling really bad, I got out of bed. When it hurts to move, you really don't want to, but it really is the BEST thing you can do. The first 4 days will be the worst, but remember the good times are coming!! You WILL feel better soon. Also, do not be concerned with the weight GAINED.....no one told me that being on an IV for 2 days would put so much of my hard earned weight loss back on!! I came out of the hospital having gained 6 lbs. and I think mine was pretty conservative! That was discouraging after the sacrifices made to take it off pre-surgery.....but like all things, it came back off pretty easy. Good luck friend!

    my band is gone :(

Hello! I just came across you post and I can relate. I had my band in Jan. 2010 and in July 2012 had the port fixed due to it flipping. After that surgery everything went down hill but my weight. After 7 months of failed fills, trying to convince my doctor and a very painful port site that never healed right (I think scar tissue was the problem and he put it where my belt line lies) there is something wrong and almost all my weight gained back, I finally switched surgeons whom I just love and had the sleeve. I love the sleeve. It keeps me from eating to much, after a couple of bites of something, I am so done. I get my liquids in easily and walk each day. No gyms for me. Nothing wrong with gyms, but to expensive for me and I love to walk. The sleeve is saving my life. I had it done May 1 and down 40 pounds already. That's just by living normal day by day. No diet to follow, I just changed my eating habits and live by them everyday. I see a fast food commercial on TV and I feel like getting sick. So if I read correctly, you would have it done by now. Please share how it went and how you are doing. This site motivates me and allows me to be honest and open. We have all walked in each others shoes in one way or another. I wish you well and much success on your new journey. Renee from WI....

    Personal question for the ladies.

Karen - I'm with ya! I've never been large breasted, but they became way larger with this last round of weight gain.....to a D cup. And I don't like it! They're starting to deflate, and I'm thrilled!

    Gas & pain

Hi Alarry21 - I had my done end of may. I have had a little pasta and rice (2-4 bites) and felt no pain from it. Are we to not have it b/c of weight gain or because it will get stuck? Still learning here :-) Thank you.
  11. I am 9 months out (down 83lbs) and to my knowledge and based on my weight lost (which is slow but sure 2 lbs per week) I have never seen a stall or weight gain. The secret is simply and I will share this with you. ONLY weigh once a month (and I have since surgery) if you do this you will never know if you have stalled or not by the time you weigh your stall should be minimal or non exsist. Do your part keep up the protein, increase water, maintain low carb intake eat something every 3 hrs (small) to increase matablism and workout. This I believe has been successful for me oh my doctor concurs. Try it let me know what you think. Good luck to all

Hello Sleevers, I have a dilemma. I went to a physician I've only been to one time in the past 24 months. She had my bmi at 39.7 (ridiculous) and I have no co-morbidities. Can I get a referral from another physician and send in only that information to the sleeve surgeon. I really did not do anything with this physician, I sat with her for about 15 minutes. I have scheduled myself to meet with another physician before my surgeon iniitial visit on July 29th where I plan to get a referral. Does anyone know if that is okay, I just want to make sure I am able to do that. I know some of you said you gained weight in order to be covered, did anyone have to go back to their physician with weight gain, and were you successful? I so want this surgery and I'm so close, I don't want a BMI of 39.7 to mess this up. Help me please!!
  13. I am in my 9th month high weight 365 lost 83 lbs its truly a blessing from God. I have not had one stall or weight gain. WHY because I weigh at the end of each month ONLY on my surgery day, workout 6 days a week and drink 10 glasses of water per day and consume 1200 calories a day and eat something every 3 hrs to boost my matablism loving me and life. Keep up the good work
  14. An endoscopy several months ago revealed inflammation from my esphagus all the way to my duodenum and noted a potential band slip. There was no mention of a haitel hernia. An endoscopy is often used to diagnose or confirm a haitel hernia. Even with no fluid in my 11cc band I was unable to get anything down that wasn't the texture of yogurt or cottage cheese. In the planning for my surgery, my surgeon was of the opinion that the band itself was the problem and had likely created irritation and scar tissue and thus would have to go. He also felt that he'd likely need to repair the herniated area he repaired during my original surgery plus remove scar tissue. I was cleared for an overnight stay in prep for a series of post-surgical tests. I was the one who pushed to save my band for fear of weight gain and it was my WLS who advised me that there was a less than 1% chance that that would happen and that given my reaction to the band, replacing it was not an option. Thus, I was really surprised to be going home that same day with a haitel hernia repair. Nothing was done to the band or the port. There was no post-op testing. WebMD is saying full liquids for two weeks post haitel hernia repair; my discharge papers say nothing beyond, "progress to regular diet". My husband swears the WLS told him I could eat a regular diet two days after surgery! Meanwhile, even coffee is doing the "stop & drop" on the way down. I've got reflux. Attempts to swallow a protein shake give me pain across my shoulder blades. I don't want to believe that this is a money making effort, but let's just say that this practice is known for knowing which insurance carriers are likely to pay without question and tailor the treatment accordingly. I would not be at all surprised to be back in the OR several months down the road having it removed. Meanwhile, my follow up appointment is next week and I've already been told that it's time for me to get a fill(!?!) plus they've started laying the ground work for potential revision to gastric sleeve. Covering all the bases except the one that really matters - my health and well-being.

    Stalling too early!

I agree with all the responses. For me, I wasn't getting in my required fluid intake due to swelling in my stomach. After surgery, I had a 10lb water weight gain. It took forever for the weight to come off. Once I was able to get in more liquids, the weight starting rolling off. I'm currently in another small stall, but I know it will continue to drop. Good luck!
  16. Im 7 months out today. It is still hard for me when it comes to food. Just like today, BBQ and delicious desserts every where and you think to yourself maybe just one bite wont hurt. Then I realize I am not the type of person who can have just one bite. It is have it all or nothing. I have had to revaluate why I want the food to begin with and how am I gonna feel after I eat it. Alot of problems I face is head hunger, Im not even hungry but I still want it. Most people feel like they are not gonna diet after being sleeved but for me it has to be a diet or I will lose control and start eating the wrong foods which will eventually cause weight gain and poor nutriction. You just have to take a step back and realize what kind of food addict you are. Can you survive with a small taste or are you like me who wants it all? Good luck, I am proud to say I have no regrets being sleeved, it has taught me alot about myself and who I want to be.

Up 2 lbs, don't understand exercise & the cal deficit

There is also the theory that as fat cells empty they fill with water causing short term weight gain or lack of loss. The fat cells then over time release the water and weight loss is the result.

    Phentermine after Surgery

I think I may be the only one on here that has the balls to admit I am currently taking Phentermine after WLS. I was sleeved on August 31, 2012 and have lost 60lbs. I got very discouraged in my weight loss venture. I am human and give in to temptation just like most of us do. My weakness is Mr Pibb. I know it's a horrible thing and I'd lose way more if I'd stop drinking 2 sodas a day. Which is a huge improvement from about 2 -2 liters a day before surgery. I don't need anyone preaching to me what I already know. I have a hard time drinking Water and yes I've put everything known to man in it to make it more desirable, but no luck. I can go 12 plus hours with out drinking a drop of anything. My Dr says I have water weight gain and has put me on the Phentermine to make me thirsty and to help with the water weight. Phentermine isn't a quick fix and I still have lots of weight to lose, but it has helped me get over the depression I have felt for quite sometime about the weight not coming off. I lost 10lbs on it and I am way thirsty. He only prescribed it a month and I'm glad he did. I have found that if I actually get out and walk around for a little while I start to notice more energy. I also have learned to pre-weigh and pre-pack my lunches and dinners for the week. This is a huge life changing journey and man what a roller coaster ride it has been. I'm sure most of you are appalled about the phentermine after surgery, but some of us need that little extra boost to help us get through hard times. Especially when there is no support and a strong ear would be nice to have for thoughts and wonders. So before you are quick to judge me, remember we are all human and no-one on this earth is perfect.

  20. Everyone posting on this thread have been my biggest motivators. I'm just shy of 2 years out, made my very modest goal at 9 months post op. It's hard sometimes to come to the site now because I always feel everyone besides me is satisfied on eating low carb, 800 cals, and 1/4 cup max per meal. I'm embarrassed, I feel like the anomaly almost... Luckily I'm 6 pounds from my low weight currently. I'm ok with that, but not HAPPY with that. I'm also kind of pissed I have to "diet" to get those stupid 6 pounds off. I could gain back all of my weight easily, but I won't. I won't go back. But it does take effort. I still have restriction with some foods but I could seriously eat 3/4 box of Cheezits in an evening, I have! Basically, I am so so happy with my sleeve but its hard to lose weight gained. The 6 pounds I'm trying to lose have been haunting me for months. All we can do is keep trying!!!

    Anyone with PCOS?

I was sleeved 4/16 and have had two periods since. The first one was brutal because I hadn't had one in 2 years. Dr put me on birth control and the second one wasn't so bad and not heavy like the other. Thank God! Pcos sucks. Weight gain, excess body hair, thinning hair and possible infertility sucks. And no one knows anything about it unless they have it. No one else understands either. My weight loss has been pretty good. Had about a 3 week stall but seems fine now. Surgery weight was 284 and now I'm 210. Hopefully these pcos symptoms go away. Hubby and I want a baby. That was the main reason for surgery. I'm 30 will be 31 in August. My clock is ticking really fast!! The 18 month wait is gonna be the hardest!

    Relationship woes, anyone?

So terrible! I think everyone fears this a little.... I know it has crossed my mind . I also know that it feels like any change in my partners affection would bother me to some degree.. If he is suddenly all over me - smothering me will I feel like he wasn't accepting of me a little heavier so why should I care now? Or if he is uninterested in me thinner- is he selfish and unsupportive? I guess it is tough- damned if they do or don't. I think its natural to have more confidence and be excited after weight loss .. but you are still YOU! To me it just says that the relationship was more superficial than you thought-- maybe time to just move forward to someone new. If the love of your life cant handle a little weight gain or loss -- it is my belief that it wouldn't have lasted anyways.. it would eventually have run its course even if you were still fat.
