    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

I start my pre-op diet in the morning. I am so ready to get this process underway. I am tired of this extra weight. I know I can do this. Feels strange to be telling others that I can't eat what they are eating. I carry water everywhere I go. Thanks giving, I am making the dressing/stuffing and two of the desserts. Never cooked without tasting what I was making. It will be an interesting experience. I feel like my thoughts are all over the place. (Nervous much?)
  2. I am 40, I've lost more than half my previous body weight (231 lbs to 109), and was carrying a LOT of weight in my chin. I almost looked like I had a goiter it was so bad. My skin tends to go in spells, I am essentially "done" actively losing weight and am in maintenance now, and I found that when I stalled my skin would catch back up, and then I'd lose more and it would look saggy. While I don't think I'm ever going to look as good as if I had never been fat, I'm hoping that now that I'm basically going to stay put, it will get to a point where I am no longer self conscious about it and won't need to have surgery. My belly, though...that's a different story, unfortunately. I look like a deflated balloon.

    Gym

Okay so another question I had to ask if I loved lifting five pound weights at the gym last year and working my cardio out on the treadmill would that work a little for my weight loss before I get surgery and when should I start if my surgery is in March or April. Thinking of walking more I try to get out of the house twice a day for now and I drink my premier protein drinks is this something to drink after the workout or during it if it's clear protein I have to get to do this so you think it would work I'm working on it so bad I got so much confidence and encouragement from my family and this support group and a very good best friend of mine.Even tho before I got 6,000 steps or more in if I walked all day with water and a small snack of fruit or veggies. I am so determined to get this surgery I write down everything now just wondering should I start going back to the gym because going on the treadmill makes me realize walking and a healthier lifestyle is better for me then what I did before. Day 7 concerns

yup stay off the scale... you will stop loosing weight for a bit throughout the journey. They are called stalls. typically at your 3rd week is where you hit your first one where you probably wont loose any weight for a couple weeks. Just stick to the program and it will come off

    Gastric bypass

I have to agree I accept others opinions I have very high confidence my surgery is gonna go fantastic. I know there's a lot of stuff we should not eat I stopped myself before I even knew about what kind of process I had to do I've been reading the blue book. I know after surgery to drink and sip on only once from a very small amount. It's kinda amazing how many men and women lost so much weight and kept it off especially keeping the will to work out five days a week. Sent from my TMAF035G using BariatricPal mobile app

    Day 7 concerns

Stop weighing yourself everyday. Try to cut back to once a week. Everyone fluctuates all the time, I can easily gain 5 lbs in a day and by the next morning it be completely gone plus some. Also, you will experience "stalls" at times. You won't loose weight and may even gain a couple lbs over a week or so. It also will pass. Just stay focused and follow your plan and you will loose weight. Best of luck to you!

    Day 7 concerns

So I’m worried today. I was losing weight everyday and now all of a sudden I haven’t lost a lb In 2 days. My wife says this is normal because she had the surgery. I’m getting discouraged but I’m following my dietitians advice.

    Gastric bypass

I had recently bought slim fast and I didn't know Amazon has all the stuff I need before my wieghtloss surgery. Slim fast isn't something that helps so I gave them to my sister.on Amazon I found the protein 2 o waters because my adopted sister is going through the same kind of thing only I think hers is the sleeve. I am so excited to be going through this journey because I waited 20 years for something to happen like this. I was once very skinny when I was a kid due to lots of health problems especially diabetes I gained alot of weight always hunger thirsty etc..I'm still training my brain to say no on certain things. It def works so far. I lost around 50 pounds since last year or was it forty pounds and I'm trying my best to loose it the diets working that im on I eat more veggies rather then candy. What are your thoughts on sugar free candy I think there are additives in it I cut those out as well.

    Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op

That's wild that your stall broke in 3 days of switching it up! Definitely going to break out the weights today! And thanks for the positive encouragement.

    Stuck at 3.5 Months Post-Op

My last stall was 4 weeks. I was also getting frustrated and stressed about it. I started tracking EVERYTHING I ate and drank (you'd be surprised what "healthy" drinks still have a lot of carbs and calories) and I added weight training to my exercise routine. 3 days later, my stall broke. This was on the advice of my nutritionist, and it worked. Track every single thing you consume and change up your exercise routine.

    Food Before and After Photos

Back through the history of this thread I started out posting my meal when I was in the weight loss phase, like a quarter sandwich, lol. Then I posted my dining out meals, from work travel. Then I posted the low carb meal preps I was doing primarily for my bf (cause my diet is anything but low carb!). Then early pandemic I was doing large scale meal prep for three different (but small) households, because of grocery scarcity, and the sudden end to my work travel gave me free time. But I burned out on cooking a while ago. Now I just post the occasional home cooked meal, or something special or fancy. Like @GreenTealael I don't post because how many times a week do people want to see a paper bowls with tater tots and season salt, or an 80% eaten McChicken 😂? This is what currently makes up a large % of my weekly diet (when I'm not in France 🥐🥖🍷) 😂
  12. Hello, I am Laura from London. It's been more than 7 months since my Gastric Sleeve operation in Turkey with Surgery TR. I chose Istanbul for my surgery, but they also offer me İzmir and Antalya too. The hospital was nice, and everything was so smooth. Nurses don't speak English however, there was a guy with me who speak English very well, and help me in all process. They gave me a personalized diet list and supplements before I return to London. They are still checking on me weekly and following my weight. There is personalized care because they know me well, they even know about my child and ask about him. We are like close friends now, I've send them to my pictures because I am so happy with my result and wanted to help the people who cannot lose weight after diets. I started with 20 stone 47 pounds but now I am 14 stone 33 pounds. Here is the contact number: +90 549 770 80 04. I am in contact with her now. You can ask all questions to me,

Weird Pain 2 weeks post op

I experienced a lot of weakness & sudden dizzy spells where my heart would start racing & flutter. It felt horrible but they went away! However mine went away because of a medication change. Turns out my dose was too high for my new weight. That may be good to take into consideration if you take medications. Its scary how easy that is to overlook

    I'm clumsy

I dealt with that & I had low blood pressure. Turns out the medication I was taking was too high for new weight & it wasn't even a blood pressure medicine! Its good to go over those again w your Drs if you do take meds

    Postop

After multiple doses of Benadryl and getting home the itching is under control. I first experienced it way back in 2004. Just head to toe intractable itching. Never did figure out why and it flares up every now and again despite taking Zyrtec twice a day. I keep getting rashes under my breasts and panus. My BMI is only 33 and my blood sugar is normal (not diabetic). I plan to document it as much as possible so I build a case for Kaiser to pay for some future plastic surgeries. Do you have to reach your goal weight in order to qualify?

    I'm clumsy

Don’t know if it’s vertigo as with vertigo, the room spins & you feel nauseous & it usually lasts for a while. (Even with meds, mine can knock me about fur a day or two.) It could be low blood pressure but equally likely that your centre of gravity has changed with your weight loss. You’ve been holding your body in a certain way to counter balance your weight & now you don’t need to as much. You may even notice aches & pains in your joints & muscles as your muscles, tendons & joints readjust to your new & better posture. I had upper back pain but new bras that actually fit helped with that a lot.
  17. My original surgeon left the state unexpectedly so I had a consult with a new one today. I'm down to the point of choosing which surgery I want and I had settled on RNY. This new surgeon brought up SADI DS which he said solves issues the old DS caused, i.e. less malabsorbtion and less GERD than the sleeve alone (something to do with how they deal with the pyloric sphincter). He said the advantages over bypass are less chance of ulcers, increased weight loss and better control of serious type 2 diabetes (which I have). I hadn't considered ulcers in my research so I would like to ask if others with RNY have had issues with these and/or have noticed this being a serious issue in your own research. I did a search here and there are almost 1K mentions in the RNY forum. I would also be interested in hearing from those who had this particular DS procedure (I think it is the most common DS version now?) and developed GERD after, and any other issues with DS in general. I'm still inclined to get the RNY but want to keep an open mind at this point. Malabsorbtion is an issue for me as I do take a number of medications that I will continue even with weight loss. Thanks for any input. I really want to get past the decisions and get this done!

Able to drink and eat normal 2 weeks Post Op

I was (and still am) the same. I've always been able to eat more and tolerate more than my fellow sleevers, at every point of the journey. I worried like crazy about this (see my early posts...) but now I'm so grateful for the ability to eat "normally". Try as much as you can to trust the process. As long as you meet your protein and water needs, you should be okay. I'd also say less mashed potato and more scrambled eggs or cottage cheese. That will affect your feeling of fullness. I'm now very near my goal weight, just 7 months after surgery. I eat all types of food, nothing is off limits (apart from chocolate - my trigger food) and I eat between 1400 and 1800 calories a day and I'm still losing.
  20. I've been stuck at the same weight for 4 weeks now. I'm starting to panic. I'm nowhere near my goal weight. I've been trying to drink all of my water and get my protein in. I've got extra stress for work and school right now. I know that's not helping. Anyone have some advice or similar struggles?

    September surgery buddies!!

Congrats!!! I think I'm still in my stall. I waited a week to weight myself and I'm down a little bit from my lowest but its so close I'm going to wait and see. Stalls are the worst so I'm so happy for you! I've also found my newest favorite drink. 2 things I hadn't tried, heating my protein shakes and fairlife vanilla so I tried it with a sf chai mix and it is the best! I found on amazon David Rio Sugar Free Orca Spice Chai Tea Mix and it is amazing. I just looked right now and it seems almost sold out which worries me but I still have most of my container left atm. What is everyone's favorite food or drink atm? Do your tastes change often? Mine seems to change weekly lol. I still have trouble with chicken too but so far everything else is ok.

    Eating carbs

i purposefully limited carbs the first two years (fist year-ish, <25g a day, second year-ish, <50-70 a day). my team did not tell me to do this, it came about first by necessity (i had very little stomach real estate and needed to prioritize other foods, and sugar was my enemy number one back then cuz i was in the height of my dumping abilities), ...then i noticed that limiting it seemed to positively affect weight loss for me, so i continued, then it just became habit, then later it became a low-level fear of mine to get back to. ...slowly me and carbs got back together again and we hang out probably just as much as "normal" people do. though breads, rice, pasta, etc still tend to sit heavily in me so its still in smaller quantities. but me and sugar are def in a much better place now lol. i'm 4 years out.
  23. I noticed since some weight loss I have been super clumsy. Its like my equilibrium is off. If I'm walking on a flat surface I will all of a sudden start slanting and usually grab something to steady myself. Has anyone had this happen to them?

    November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hi everyone! First post here...was too loopy before surgery on the liver-shrinking diet to post, but I'm drinking protein now, and have my wits about me (somewhat)...today has been rough, not sure if I'm withdrawing from Percocet but I've been tired and headachey. I also have to remember I have autoimmune arthritis, so this all can't be any picnic in terms of mixing that with the last six days... Had RNY gastric bypass done last Monday here in NYC at Mount Sinai St. Luke's. Everything went great. I got home Tuesday afternoon. Not a ton of pain but a lot of soreness around the midsection that made it tough to sleep, so took Percocet at night to help with that. Ran out last night, so also must keep that in mind, re: cranky- and out-of-sorts-ness. *Trigger Warning* Eating disorders... I went through the food dream "phase" (hoping it is just a phase, LOL), and also had weird thoughts today -- straight up addict thoughts -- like, what if I eat my favorite ice cream bar, bite by bite, chew by chew, and just spit it out down the garbage disposal? That way I'm not causing any trouble... Having been in alcohol recovery some time, I know that thinking to be downright insane. I have purged / restricted in my life, but that would be pretty blatant bulimia! Glad I could share that, and hope I haven't triggered anyone too badly. Anyway, I did this from a place of seeking health, taking stress off my back (which was fused after a slipped disc last year), reducing the autoimmune pain, reducing anxiety about being seen in public, as my weight spiraled out of control due to poor stress management through emotional eating. Cosmetics were last on the list, really just a bonus. Anyway, this forum is amazing, and hope to read more of you soon.

    Snacking at night…

THANK YOU FOR POSTING!!! I am so down on myself the last month has been horrible in many aspects of my life and not in my control. Lost my job etc so I’m a stress eater and have gained 4 lbs back in a month! I feel like a massive failure and so depressed. I have an appointment with a therapist Tuesday but finding it hard to find someone that understands what we have been through on this journey. So thank you for posting about the protein snacks at night. I was back to eating junk and could easily have been eating protein items! 💕. Ps I’m new on here so I hope I have posted in the right spot!
