My vitamins or really hard to keep down. I'm going to see my doctor Wednesday thank goodness. But Did anyone have this hard of a time? Is this normal?

  3. Hi I am not sure what kind of mentor I can be, but I can surely be your buddy. I am in the same boat as you, I had surgery on Sept. 18th. Not sure how much I have lost because I am weighting in at the Dr. office only. I have lost sizes, before surgery I was pushing a size 20W, now I can wear a 14 in pants. I have had one fill and did not notice much restriction, I can eat almost anything, I have my next fill scheduled for Jan. 7th, hoping and praying this fill helps. My DR. schedules fills every 8 weeks, with the holidays I had to wait another week. Alittle bit about myself, I also work in the school system, I am a secratary at a high school in Roanoke Va. I found it much easier to stayed focused with the schedule of working in school. I am a 50 year old mom of 3 children, a daughter in college (3rd year) and 2 very active teenage boys 17 & 16 my baby is 6'2 and still growing. So there is alot of food in my home to keep two growing boys full. I think your losing 45 lbs is a wonderful thing , just stay focused, we knew this was not going to be a easy journey but a journey that will be sooooo worth it in the end. My e-mail address is leazmom@verizon.net I would love to be your buddy. Jeannine
  4. I had my lapband surgery done in Feb. of this year. Everything has gone great, however this past week I have been uncomfortable. I used to be able to distinctly feel my port under one of my scars, but now i dont feel it anymore. My left ribs have been feeling like something is rubbing on them and my left side has felt irritated. Has anyone heard of their port moving?? Is it possible? I've been doing more exercise this week such as baseball which has involved more of my stomach muscles and twisting... I called my on-call doctor but no return call yet..
  5. I'd ask your physical therapist or surgeon. each program seems to be slightly different, but I see a lot of people starting to do more strenuous exercises at the 4-6 week mark.

    Normal?

It is normal to me because I recently went through it too. I actually gained weight the day after the surgery, 4lbs I think it was. I was not happy at all and then couldn't loose any for almost two weeks. Then to my surprise the last two weeks it has been coming off on a good basis. I was banded June 20th. When I had complained to the doctors office they told me I was suppose to concentrate on healing not loosing weight in the beginning. Don't sweat it, it will come off. Good luck and congrats! Colleen

    Insurance Fear?

From reading through various threads, I had come to think that having insurance cover WLS meant that they would almost for certain require a 3-6 month mandated nutrition monitoring program. Is thinking this incorrect? I am currently in the process of switching over to BCBS of Texas, and while I was planning on being self-pay with the hopes BCBS would cover part of the cost on the finding of a hiatal hernia.... Is it possible that they could cover the entire surgery without requiring a 6 month stall? I've planned the surgery with a timeline in place between school semesters and my final Pre-Op appointment is supposed to be on July 31st where I make my full payment... There have been unforseen holdups with getting the insurance switched over but they for sure have all of my paperwork now and I'm just waiting on receiving my member information so I can give it to the surgeon's office.. I'm concerned that there is just not much time left now -less than a month until the surgery date- but is there at least a chance it could be not only approved in time but not require the extra stuff? The cash price is not cheap, but as far as my health and getting my life back on track, even if insurance could cover the procedure I can't afford to wait another six months beyond what I already have. This isn't about impatience any longer. My mental and physical preparations have been made and I think I'd completely break down beyond a therapist's help if this was put off. Any hope?

    what to bring to hospital

Someone suggested an eye mask and earplugs so we might actually get some rest in the noisy hospital. I will be there three days so I bought some
  10. Hi all, Had my first fill last week. I have a Realize band and he put 3 cc's in. My doc is pretty conservative and doesn't want to have to put cc's in only to take them out later. He even said, I may not feel a huge amount of restriction so i'll need to make sure to work had at eating right which I'm fine doing. I'm jsut curious as to have other people only had 3 cc's ont he first fill and how much more did their doctor add ont he second fill , whcih mine is anotehr 6 weeks away. Thanks

    2nd month

Nod young. Same here. I never lost anything in two weeks, but I have been eating bread here and there even though it is difficult for me to swallow it. On the other hand, I had pasta today for the first time and it was great! No problems. So far, I'm having probes eating bread and fruit in a can/jar.

    Hello from Los Angeles

I understand your nervousness. I had the oBand Lap Band 9 months ago. I've lost 82 lbs since then. I live here in LA (San Fernando Valley). I was 343 lbs when I started, and my insurance co made me go on a 12 week medically supervised diet before surgery. I was 278 lbs on surgery date. I now weigh 196 lbs. I had surgery on a Tuesday and went back to work on Wednesday (the next day). If you have any questions or just want to chat PM me. John
  13. I am 3 years post surgery. And in those 3 years I never felt hungry, I knew when it was time to eat, my sugar would drop but never had a hunger pain since the hormone is no longer there. I'm 6 months pregnant and for the first 16 weeks I was sick as a dog, lost 5 lbs in 2 weeks, it was horrible. But now I'm starting to feel what I think is hunger pains. I forget it's been so long. I wake up every 2 hours at night to have a snack and use the bathroom. I eat every 2 hours during the day too. Does anyone else eat this often? I had trouble keeping and gaining weight in the beginning and now I'm eating like this I thought for sure I would gain a lot of weight, I'm at 12 lbs. Not bad. I read so many other posts where the women said they gained 60+lbs. If you did gain that much weight did you ever have morning sickness? When did you gain the most weight? That sounds like a large amount of weight for a WLS patient to gain, most non wls patients don't gain that much during pregnancy. I would love to hear some feedback since I have a few months to go. When did you gain the most weight? Are you/were you hungry a lot?

    Breaking a plateau

Hey there.............I'm almost 3 months out and have lost almost 50 lbs and have one fill also so were almost in the same boat,I too feel like I've hit a plateau.......I'm stuck between 207 & 209.I haven't been faithful about exercising so in that respect your one up on me.I have been evaluating my eating habits,I cant really make more than 2 or 3 hours without being hungry so I think I'm in need of a fill. But I also think I've been eating more carbs than protein so I'm trying to work on that. Hope any of this mumble-jumble helps, but at least were not alone......I see my Doc next week so I hoping a little filler-up will help with the hunger!Hang in there!

    Orientation!

I am scheduled for surgery on April 4. I had a required three month session, which included 2 small pre-op classes, 2 large group post-op sesssions, 2 with nutrionist, 1 psychologist, 2 registered nurse visits, pcp visit, 1 surgeon visit, bloodwork, and an ultra sound. All of my requirements have been met the end of Feb. I have surgery scheduled, but am waiting for the "go ahead" from insurance that can take 4-6 weeks. It was not bad at all. You really learn a lot from the sessions and I looked forward to them. I would not be as prepared today without them. Good luck to you!!

    Hi, Need Some Advice...

Well let me tell you of my success. I was banded on Oct 9,2008 and I am down almost 60 lbs. Mind you I am a guy and guys tend to lose weight faster than women. That's just the way it is. I have not Bp'd one time. This is because I follow the rules of the band. I eat six times a day around 4oz each time. Never eat junk, as my surgeon would say 'food is fuel'. So I tend to always eat very healthy protein and complex carbs. I also work out 5 times a week. Started the first month with just walking then after six weeks I started working out at the gym. Your friend is not following the rules and it sounds like they are too tight. If you follow the rules of the tool, you will lose weight. Start out slow and progress at your own pace. I was banded because I needed help. l actually lost 165 lbs without the band and gained it all back. So I said to myself, 'Its time to make a permanent change.' If you think you can just get a band and poof you are skinning you are mistaken. It takes hard work and detication. Good luck....P.S. Getting the Lapband was the best decision of my life.:tongue2:

    Not Losing Weight

I was having a stall (5weeks out) and my surgeon told me to make sure I was only eating solid protein. I had become too dependent on soft foods like yogurt and refried beans. And was going to the gym everyday. Anyway, I followed his advice and lost five pounds this week. I can only eat 1 or 2 oz of solid proteins. I was eating 3 or more oz of the soft foods. Hope you start losing again soon!!
  18. My stomach did the same thing the first few weeks. I called it "rumbles" because I could feel and hear it like a storm brewing. I'm sure now that it was acid. I also was not put on a PPI and it wasn't until 6+ weeks out that I started to have heart burn and reflux. Call your doctor and ask for a Rx or go to CVS and pick some up OTC.
  19. Some of you may have read my thread about going to get unfilled and how the doc wasn't able to access the port. He said it wasn't flipped, but has some scarring over the rubber part and might have been a little bruised from my fill the week before. He basically sent me on my way still on a mostly liquid diet. I asked, what if I really need an unfill and you can't find it again? He said that worse comes to worse he will do it at the hospital under xray. I am fine with that. Heck, I will pay the extra to avoid feeling like a pin cushion! What I'm more worried about is him not being able to find the port by hand. Is there something wrong with it? Is it in the process of flipping? I work out a lot, have I done something? I guess that I like concrete answers and the doc didn't really give me a reason why he couldn't find the port that was definitely the answer so I'm kind of freaking out. I walked out of the office bawling. I'm a worrier by nature so I'm thinking, port revision, band slippage because I'm too tight and can't keep downanything but liquids and some mushies. I just feel like things are out of control. I behaved myself, but when I went to the grocery store I really wanted to buy some ice cream and other goodies that I could get past the band and that would actually taste like something! I didn't do it though. I am so sick of liquids and mushies a week out from my overfill and now I have to do this another week! I feel really tired when I work out and I am losing my ambition. I guess if I don't feel relief by the end of the week, I will have to go back and try to get it unfilled again and see if I need the xray. Has anyone else had it happen where their doc can't find their port?
  20. I saw my doc Friday and his answer was lets give it a week and see if you lose weight and it gets looser. It is getting a little looser, but I am still scared that there is something wrong with my port. I guess I'll just have to have him take a look with the xray. I think he is trying to save me money because I'm self pay, but I don't mind paying if it will put me at ease! I think I might call him tomorrow to see if I can get the xray done to make sure nothing is wrong.
  21. Hi all! I'm new to the forum and am considering VSG.....I have thought about surgery for years, but have been afraid---surgery scares the heck out of me, but the future seems rather bleak if I don't get this weight off...........the big 5-0 is coming up soon, and it's unsettling.......with health concerns, I don't see getting to a healthy weight happening w/o surgery. I had a sister and a friend who had the bypass a number of years ago, and that just isn't for me. A friend had lapband, and I would prefer not to deal with the adjustments for maintenance. I went to the informational session last night, and meet with the surgeon next week. The procedure is covered 100% and need to go through a 3 month period before the surgery to meet with NUT & Psy.....will find out next week what hoops I have to jump through...........I know one will be my PCP.......I'm not sure if he will be supportive..... Thankfully, my husband of 29 years is onboard with this. Has anyone had Cigna, and were they good to deal with for this process? Thanks for all the helpful info posted on the forum.

    Surgery Scheduled

Hi, This is my 7th day on Protein shakes Pre-Op diet. The first two days are the hardest. My stomach complained so loud. But now things are quiet again. I got enough protein in per day that I'm not hungry at all. Can you have anything else in addition to opti-fast? My doctor just told me to get 60+g or protein, 20 or les of Fat, and 10 g or less of Sugar per day. After 2 days of EAS Protein Shakes, I got so sick of sweet shakes, so I called up my doctor and asked if I can eat clear broth. The nurse said yes. So I got some chicken broth, add Protein powder (while it still cool). heat it up, a dash of salt and pepper. And It was yummy! My nurse also lets me have Jello (Fat free sugar free kind). So I add protein powder to that and eat about a cup of jello a day. 1 Cup of FF/SF jello came out to be 20 calories and 2g of protein. With Protein powder it's adding 55 calories, 1g Fat, 13g protein, 1g sugar. Also, check out the Special K protein Water. Get the powder kind and add them to your water. I take about 2 pack of those a day, 60 calories, total of 10g protein. So far I lost 7 lbs. And my Blood sugar went from 167 to 104 this morning.... good luck to ya!!! *I'm also self-pay. I'm getting banded next week~!! Woo hoo!!

One shake at a time.... that is how to approach it.. do not think of it as 2 weeks...just one shake at a time.... Drink lots of water or crystal light...Don't just get in the obligatory 64 ounces... WAY up your water intake..you will spend a good amount of time on the potty.. but your body will adjust by day 3....... Days 1-3 are the toughest and then it is fine.....you body will be on board to what you are doing from then on.... I did a 6 month program of optifast... towards the end... waiting on people to eat made me angry ... I called them "eaters" LOL! I wanted everyone to be able to shake rattle and roll on with their day with me.....Eating was a waste of my time... I had things to do!! So remember... ONE SHAKE AT A TIME.......and keep posting on here for support....

Well, the it's finally the 11th.

Thanks so much guys! I'm on the high Protein, low carb diet as well. For Breakfast, I just fixed 2 eggs and 3 slices of Canadian Bacon. I imagine I'll be having a lot of that during the next 2 weeks, as well as chicken and tuna. Haha I'm not too creative with food. I just feel lucky that I'm not on the Clear liquids diet that some people have to go on. The surgery is on the 25th. Only 14 days, I can't believe it's almost here!

    28 Days AND COUNTING!!

Everyone has the same fears, but the odds are hugely in your favor. If you have never had anesthesia, it is an interesting experience, almost like magic. Stop worrying about not solving this problem on your own, almost no one does. These concerns will all fade away in your happiness and new success post-surgery. I was banded six weeks ago. I have lost 28 pounds and I feel great and so excited that the future will look the way I have imagined it for so long.
