This is a strange NSV, but I wanted to share it. I'm a Long Islander, and I was without power (and heat!) for 8 days following Hurricane Sandy. And for three days after my power came back on, we had my mother-in-law stay over because her power wasn't back yet. (She's nice, but I haven't told her about my surgery - she wouldn't understand.) Here's my victory: During that whole time, I managed to make good food choices and not go for comfort food. In the past, I would have binged on Mallowmars and Devil Dogs. In a situation where I previously would have crumbled, my band helped me stand firm. And today I got my reward: I'm down to 199!

It's So Nice To Have A Neck Again.....
VJSlim replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So true! I practically squealed when I realized I could see my collar bone. Then a week later when I had my doctor's appointment, I told him that and he laughed so hard! I consider that to be my best NSV till date! You look awesome! -
I, like many have high blood pressure, controlled by meds. On friday I woke at 4am & had to go potty.I walked out the bedroom door & got a huge dizzy spell (I have been getting them for the past couple weeks) I bent over to lower my head for a minute & when I stood up, I just kept going over backwards, blacking out. I remember hitting my head on the door frame, after that I also managed to hit my shoulder, knee, and twist my mid-back. I hit the floor and regained conciousness right away with my dogs licking my face! What a shocker ! I went to the Dr's later that day & told him what had been happening with the dizziness & the fainting that morning. He checked my BP and it was low, so he took me off one of the meds (YIPEE!) and told me to monitor myself. So a very slight concussion, bruised shoulder, knee( don't really want to damage the artificial knees !!) and a sore back, it is great to be off one of my medds but what a way to find out! SO Sat, I stopped the 1 med & lter in the afternoon, went to town for a few things. While I was shopping I got the dizzy spells again. I went & sat for a while but they kept coming back so I finished up with 1/2 of what I went for & headed home. I was wondering if you have had your BP meds reduced does it takes a while for it to get out of your system? Sorry for the long post, just wanted to explain it properly

Jenymac, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!! What an amazing NSV. I totally understand what you are saying. You proved to me by posting this NSV that you are in control now not the food in control of you, this is a conversation I was having with someone at a party I went to last night. You had a margarita and it was loaded with calories? You incorporated it into your new lifestyle and you accounted for it, to me that says you indulged in something you don't always have and enjoyed but were still within your calories for your day, this is what developing a healthy relationship with food is about and you sound like you've nailed it. Living with the band IS a lifestyle change not a deprivation diet. You didn't sound to me like you were rewarding yourself with food you came across to me as a person who is finally in control of living with food. I've only been banded four months but with my preop diet included I've lost just over 70 pounds. As part of being banded I knew I had to change my relationship with food and I have done that, yes it's early days and who knows how I will be in 12 months time, but last night at the party I proved to myself that I can go to a party or a restaurant and not make food so important that it takes over me completely. Did I have some birthday cake? Hell yes but it was only a sliver, enough to satisfy my taste buds and still be within my portion controls ( I don't count calories). In the past I would have been so focused and drooling as soon as I laid eyes on that cake and couldn't wait to have a piece or two. Last night it was totally different, it was like that's a nice cake and I totally forgot about it till some was offered to me and when it was I was no thank you just had some from my sons plate and went back to my conversation without giving the cake another thought. Again I say well done!!

NSV = nonscale victory. Sorry for the confusing verbiage initially and I see how it can sound like I was trying to reward myself..... Thanks for the encouragement, EVERYBODY! Didn't mean to sound so attacked - just trying to savor my own little personal victory....

What is NSV??? Sorry if you felt we were being negative , it was your words that prompted the replys. I personally rewarded myself with food and drink so many times I ended up with weight loss surgery... I don't do that anymore . I reward myself with a good book that I wouldn't usually buy before . I get a pedicure, I have my brows waxed rather then pluck, I buy earrings, I buy expensive perfume , I had permanent make up done .... but food for me as a reward nope . Does not mean I do not eat , I eat almost anything I want in a portion that is doable but it is not a cheat or reward it is just something I have to do and I do not feel deprived, I feel alive and free . Everyone handles their journey differently

hey guys! i wanted to make a new post updating you about my status as of right now. im going to start off with my weight and stuff and then we can move on to my non scale victory story! as of today, weight: 147lbs. bmi: 27.8 lost: 126lbs started at weight: 273lbs. bmi: 51.6 so here goes my non scale victory story! i started out wearing a size 18-22 in jeans. i am only 5'1 so imagine carrying 273lbs with you all the time! it was hard. if the jeans were really stretch, i was an 18. no stretch, id say 22 maybe even 24! well, yesterday i had to go jean shopping because the size 6 jeans i bought in sept are starting to look baggy on me. not cute lol. i tried on a pair of really stretch jeans (which must run big because its no way) and guess what size they are? a size 1/2! can u friggin believe it? but then i tried on another pair of stretch jeans from the same store and they were a size 3 and they fit tight but i got them on. so i think im a size 3/4. i can definitely squeeze into a 3/4 if they are stretch. im only 24 so i like my clothes as tight as possible. lol. i think with no stretch, id be like a 7. i cant believe it tho. i havent been this small since 5th grade!!!!! update about my hair... its starting to grow back. i can see the growth, thank god because it was really bad. i actually love my new haircut now but i still do miss my long hair lol. and my boobs, smh! they have gotten so much smaller but i am definitely getting a boob job! DEFINITELY!

While I appreciate your input, it was not a reward. I no longer have "rewards" or "cheats" as per my eating disorder therapist and my own resolve. I have LIFE. I plan to go to the same restaurants I've always gone to, just to eat less and count every calorie. So, I am incorporating the foods I like into my life in a healthy way. Some days will be better than others but I REFUSE to beat myself up for living it or to say I'll never have another margarita. I have lived the "never have anything high calorie again" lifestyle, got down to a size 4, and it's not sustainable long term. Frankly, I'm a little disappointed at the negative feedback, when I specifically posted a NSV. Margarita 400 calories. I was at 1050 for the day and exercised 200.

So very happy for you....enjoy all the lil NSV !!!

I went to my VERY FAVORITE mexican restaurant last night for the first time since the band and did well! I put all the food I allowed myself on a single plate and did not even eat it all! I had a margarita, too, which still kept me under my calories. I was feeling deprived, so I really needed this indulgence within my guidelines to kind of prove to myself that I can eat what I want and still reach my goal. Before, it was all or nothing. If I went to this restaurant, it meant I ate until I was so full I couldn't stand it or I just didn't go. I'm in hot pursuit of the ever-elusive gray area - life not mandated by rules OR complete overindulgence. I found it last night, but I know that it will be a constant pursuit until I incorporate it into the core of my being - my habits. For now, I'm happy with the little wins. Thanks!

FLORIDAYS replied to okiekatt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
no weight posting on my DL...thanks goodness. LOL But my latest NSV was yesterday. It was a birthday celebration in the conference room at work. They had one of those HUGE Cookies. I took a piece about as big as the size of 1/2 a teabag. One of my newer employes said.. are you dieting? I said actually I am just maintaing my weight. One of the long term employees piped in and said she'd lost over 200 lbs... the new girl said...wow... I wouldnt think you'd ever been anything but small. I was stunned. SMALL? And you are talking about me? What's in that cookie? Of course I didnt say anything but thank you... but then my long term employee whipped out her phone which had a pic of me at the CHristmas party several years ago and proceeded to show it to the new girl. LOL It was a pretty nice feeling! -

Good morning all, Just wanted to share an exercise/fitness NSV. I ran the Hot chocolate 5K this past Sunday in Chicago, and my time was 43:48. Last year, pre-VSG, I did a 5K (walked pretty much the entire thing) and came in at 53:55. This time I was able to do a substantial amount of running/jogging, and shaving 10 minutes off my time felt awesome! Yay! I guess next time I need to shoot for under 40 minutes

Yea! It's the NSV that make your day. :-)
