Want to Keep Going, But Feel Like I hit a Wall
LisaCan do this posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Had sleeve surgery on October 8, 2014. To date I've lost 66 pounds, but the past week and a half I've bounced from 70 back down to 66. I've recently added a weekly trampoline exercise class. I keep trying to make sure I get all the Protein but have noticed the past couple of weeks my hair is coming out in bigger clumps then before. I'm really getting frustrated, as much as I'm happy with the improvement I feel like I'm not where I should be. -
Gallbladder removal during surgery?
cindyw41 replied to Paula'sVSGLife's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being obese and rabid weight loss both are factors in having gallbladder attacks. With you having previous issues it seems like that would be a good option for you. 1 recovery, 1 surgery & taking care of two issues ???? -
Gusso, I told my wife, daughters, son, brother, and a few of my friends. Please check the forum "weight loss surgery and friends", there are some interesting reply's. As you will see, not everyone understands what you will go through. Be very careful about posting it on facebook, personally I WOULD NOT. Hey good luck and be well, Lash

Long Time Sleevers
rcarter76 replied to Boredoncemore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am SOOOO jealous mountain lover, I wish I could eat anything. I am still supposed to be on pretty much Clear liquids for 2 more weeks. On the 28th I go on mushies for still three more weeks, so the day I can blend anything I will be happy. Does your doc allow you to eat sausage and gravy? Just wondering. It is crazy how much all of our post op diets differ! Congrats on your loss so far, I hope to be in the 220's soon! -
9 Months Post-op, 60 Pounds Down
*Lexie* replied to JamieLogical's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yay, congratulations! I have been following you from the beginning of your journey and am so excited to see you near goal. I had surgery a month after you and I'm a slow loser too. I had the same reaction; a few months of insanity over the slow loss to an acceptance and appreciation for the big picture. Of course I'd still like to lose fast but I know that's not going to happen and I'm hoping the one benefit I have is less loose skin. -
Help I'm hungry all the time
James Marusek replied to KanoodleBug's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Weight loss is achieved during the short weight loss phase through meal volume control. The two operative words here are short and volume. So if you want to maximize your weight loss during this phase, you need to adhere to the program guidelines. I slid into the maintenance phase at 7 months. After surgery, I was restricted to 3 meals per day. But you are consuming 6. So that might be the root cause. As far as hungry all the time - after my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I completely lost my hunger. It was not difficult to lose weight when hunger is not constantly continually gnawing at my bones. But after about a year the hunger returned. Not like before surgery, because it was less intense. There are two different phases to weight loss surgery, these are the weight loss phase and the maintenance phase. I slid into the maintenance phase at around 7 months post op, but this can vary by individual. The approach in maintenance phase is very different than in the weight loss phase. ACL injury - hoping for some insite from my lapband buddies
GuyMontag replied to JenWis6's topic in Fitness & Exercise
I've had to fight injuries here and there and for me it seems like diet/exercise is about 80/20 of weight loss. You'll still be able to lose about 80% of the weight you need to through diet alone. Also, when I injured myself I always found that completely resting whatever I had injured for several weeks always helped. Don't try to rehab something that is healing on its own. Those are valuable lessons that I have learned. Good luck! -
I can relate to living with someone who has no issues with weight...and it's difficult, but at least your husband seems to be making an effort to be supportive of your efforts. If you are experiencing difficulties with eating, and if you are vomiting at all, you need to consult with your surgeon, because this is not normal and could actually harm your band. There are a number of items you listed on your diet which are expressly forbidden on my post op diet. It would be helpful to consult with a registered dietitian or nutritionist to get some understanding of ways to improve your weight loss and to feel better in the process. Best wishes...

1St Timer.... Clueless And Forced By Friend
Gene1970 replied to traulena2's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Welcome!!!! Congrats on the weight loss. This is a great forum that I used pre-surgery to get some good advice and encouragement. Overall there are a lot of great people here and it's great to encourage others as well. -
Well, I'm a little late in commenting on this thread, but I had Dr. Takata, Dr Fuller's associate and was sleeved on Aug 22. I have been seeing Dr. Lee, the endocrinologist with Scripps Weight Loss Management group for some time and he spoke very highly of both surgeons. I thought the care at Scripps Green was fantastic. I hope you are doing well and had a good experience with Dr. Fuller.

I lost over 250 lbs on this one diet I went to at a weight loss clinic, I was starved all the time, went there for about 2 yrs, but it was a battle of my hunger, even tho I cheated a lot I lost weight but as soon as I quit using their product the weight went on just as fast if not more, I'm committed to this sleeve to help me on my portion control. My liver is ok as far as size, I just have a two day clear liquid diet before surgery, I know when the Doctor examine me his said my liver was ok as far in size, I eat lean meats, love fish but I eat lots and my weakness is ice cream , mash potatoes , and mustard potato salad and love any kind of cheese, just portion control I have a problem with. But congratulations on the 36 lbs of weight loss, are you ok with the diet your on now? Not hungry , satisfy when you eat? If it was me and I answered yes I would just stick to the diet your on and forget surgery but if not go with the surgery, I know I can't and it not being lazy ether. Good luck on what ever you decide.

Not having support from partner
capiccirillo posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My partner of 7 yrs says she supports my decision to have the sleeve surgery yet makes comments about well if you went to the gym and ate smaller meals you could lose weight. My nutritionist says I eat very well but with my PCOS it's hard to loss weight and I struggle. But hearing those comments makes me feel she doesn't get it and makes me feel like I'm a failure for doing this for me. I want this surgery to get back my life and overcome this weight obstacle. I go to my nutrition classes and come home excited about what I learned and went to share it with her but she makes comments how can that be healthy, are you of sure she said that, she can't be right, if you were a eating healthy you wouldn't be overweight......who wants to hear that and everything I eat my partner sees. I don't cheat. I'm just feeling really down and the support I need on the home front base I am not getting and want to know anyone else dealing with this.... -
Hi Janel I haven't got a message that I can tell! But that might just be me :-) feeling ok, still feel as though I am bruised inside every now and again. Still bit concerned over feeling hungry and the fact that I could eat a whole plate of food! Haven't tried though, so guess that's a good thing. Went for a trip earlier, and walked around costco then had to have a lie down this afternoon. Had a bout of diarrhoea while in Costco and had to run to the bathroom. First time that has happened! Finally lost 2lb today, so hoping things have started moving now going to keep everything crossed! How you doing ? Feeling any better now? Hope your doing ok, how is your weight loss going? Bx

Did your nutritionist give you a time to not eat past? Just curious to see how everyone's rules compare. Has anyone found that eating before bed slows your weight loss or doesn't effect it at all?

Hello, everyone! Just wanted to post my first thread on here and introduce myself. I finally got a surgery date of 2/9/10 after 18 months of pre-op requirements and 2 appeals to the insurance. Grrrr! I am so excited and can't wait to utilize this site for the much needed support that I am going to need. Wish me luck! Thanks, Lynn P.S. I created a weight loss ticker, but how do you put it on your thread? Help, please.

WORST PERIOD of my life!!!
zandile100 replied to katyp1203's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been banded since April and have noticed the same thing! Not only are my periods super painful, I also get the worst mood swings with my period which never used to happen! I have read on other posts that hormones are impacted with weight loss and am interested if anyone knows anything more about this. My Dr. also says no ibuprofen which sucks because that was the only pain killer that worked really well. -
Bad Back. Trying To Decide What Surgery.
Guest posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well I will give you some info about me. I weigh 360lb and I would like to lose 120lb. I have a bad back I have been living with for years (over 15). I have a herniated disc, degenerative disc disease and the cartilage is very thin to gone between a couple disc. My doctor suggested to go until I can't stand the pain any longer then look into surgery. I know even with weight loss im going to have pain but my nsaids really help me. My weight loss doctor is wanting me to get RNY to lose more weight faster. He suggested for the back pain take tylenol and water therapy. I know tylenol and water therapy won't help me so im considering the sleeve. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? I'm trying to decide between the two surgeries and its only two weeks away from surgery time -
That's really great on your weight loss what is your goal weight

Just got my date! Excited but pensive. I am a low BMI and thus a self pay, but my comorbidities make me feel like I just have to do it. I've spent most of my life rather slender until my thyroid threatened my life and it was removed. Add 75 pounds quickly and you get HBP, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, sleep apnea and an emergency gall bladder removal--all in four years! My stats are: Age 53 Height 5'6" BMI 34 SW 200 CW 200 Goal 145 Fantasy Weight 125 Good news is I don't have to pre-op weight loss and I only have to do special Meal Replacement shakes for three days prior!

Hi- I had my surgery Feb 1st and have lost 20 pounds, and yes, I eat cheetos and cake- sorry  I just don't eat a lot of it and I make sure I don't eat it every single day. I cannot eat pizza for some reason, but other than that as long as I eat slowly and DO NOT DRINK with my food, I can eat just about anything. At the end of the day, the number of calories you eat is what dictates your weight loss. Also, it is VERY important that if you are hungry or able to eat more than you should that you contact your doctor and schedule to get the band adjusted. I am going in today for an adjustment because I am starting to be able to eat much more than I want/should. I was very, very, very nervous about having the surgery but I am so glad that I did it. My advice is to go for it and to visualize yourself each day as having a positive reaction to the surgery. Don't be negative- imagine yourself for five minutes a day in your mind as a thin, healthy, happy person who loves life. I promise it will help! Best of luck.

Due to side effects including appetite suppression and weight loss, Adderall has also been used as an off-label drug for obesity. You aren't obese any longer. I have no clue how much more you need to lose but this drug you're taking seems to be working against you. I am sure you realize only a doctor can help you with this matter. None of us would ever want to steer you wrong. It doesn't seem normal for you to be going through this. Do the smart thing and see a nutrtionist maybe with what you are eating and maybe they can suggest your next step. That drug even talks about depression and maybe you are going through something mental that you can't put your finger on. Josephine

Hi I know the feeling. I had some of the some things happen to me. My husband was 200% there for me. It was my grown children. They still 3 years later will not acknowledge my 105 pound weight loss to me or ever say anything about it. I guess I should be happy that we are all talking and enjoying each other. They were so sure that I would die, fail, and starve because of the miss information that they got from the wrong places. I did prove them wrong all accounts, and so I guess it is hard for them to say gee Mom, I guess you did know what you were talking about. It took me 6 months to make up my mind and educate myself about weight loss surgery and what doctor I was going to go to. I know JUST how important support can be, I am here for you every step of the way. Where are you having your surgery? You are doing something that is going to add 20 years to your life and your are being your very own HERO! Never look back--only look forward. There isn't anything you can't do because you are strong and a survivor and you want to change your life. I am very proud of you for making this choice. It takes a LOT more courage to have this surgery than to continue to do what you have been doing right now and that is being fat and unhealthy. Yes, I call it fat, I was fat, and I know there are a lot of nice ways to say it, but fat is fat there is no getting around it. You want something better for yourself and that is great. This is my private E-maile: Suzannesh@aol.com. If you send me an E-mail, I will send you my phone number and you can call me ANY time of the day or night that you need something. The closer you get to your surgery date, you will experience ALL kinds of feelings and emotions. That is very normal. I experience happy, sad, couldn't wait to have it done, scared to have it done all at the same times sometimes. I what if'd myself so much that it made my head spin. On the airplace going to Mexico, I was second guessing if I was doing the right thing. So when you have these feeling or emotions you aren't any different than most of the rest of us. You are pretty normal. I am here for you. There isn't anything that we can't talk about. Hugs, Suzanne

I was banded on the 29th. Had same experience. It was so bad went to the Dr. 3 days later. He told me this feeling is very common and is due to the band being tight around the stomach and releif will come after healing and weight loss. Even now a week later I am still on pain meds but am finding the sensation is weakening some.
