    Day 5 of Pre-Op

    My doc required a 2 week pre op of clear/full liquids. I did 1 extra week on my own. I was able to eat yogurt (no fruit) and broth or creamy soup (no veggies or meat) and was very satisified. I also had to consume protein drinks (Ensure, Adkins, Slimfast etc) at least 2 a day and that was not a problem. I am day 4 post op and doing well- Just re-introduced yogurt as for the next 14 days am back to clear/full liquid diet. I too am unsure as to why each doctor has a different variation of pre and post op dieting- Some are very extreme while others are very lenient. Personally I was eager to begin this journey and committed 100 + percent and I know that others do not realize until its too late what a commitment it really is. I used the pre-op time to really soul search also and pray alot about what I was doing and got great comfort that way too. I can only say in a while it will be totally worth it and these 2 weeks or 3 weeks of preop are preparing you for the rest of your new-life so dont give up!
  2. Today I started at 6:00 AM with a Protein drink: Crystal light, strawberry yogurt and one scoop Protein powder... By 7:00 Am I felt hungry: I had cottage cheese with a small amount of Kellogg's Protein Special Kay. Hungry again at 10:00 AM ????

    Something Interesting

    I've been flavoring my own plain Greek yogurt for years now. I have a local spice shop and there are a few that seem to go over well in our house. I'd suggest using whatever sweetener you use and the following to taste. pumpkin pie spice with a hint of vanilla Apple pie spice + vanilla Chai spice with vanilla or sometimes I've used almost extract Lemon and lime zest
  4. I'm only 6 months out, so take this with a grain of salt, but my restriction is REAL. I am very restricted in how much I can eat at once time, topping out at 2-4 ounces of meat (depending on what type of meat and how it's served). I can eat a whole individual serving of greek yogurt okay now (different story at like 2 months post op) and I even started adding 13 grams of kashi Cereal to that before my workouts so I have a few carbs for fuel. The addition of the cereal really pushes the limits of my sleeve's capacity, but I just eat it very slowly. Now, that being said, I could still eat every hour if I wanted to. I'm not hungry, but once the food has passed through my sleeve, there's nothing to stop me from eating more if I so chose. I could also choose to eat 4 ounces of cake instead of 4 ounces of chicken. I could drink soda and juice non-stop. There are many many many ways that I could sabotage myself and work around/against my sleeve.
  5. when I get snacky at night, I eat yogurt and that helps a lot with the cravings. I get the dessert type yogurts, feels like I am cheating but I am not.

Webchickadee 2nd thoughts, doubts???? this happened to me this morning when i was trying to decide on a scrambled egg or yogurt inquiring minds want to know......i had the egg seriously now folks SR910 these emotions, being scared, nervous et al - happened to me and many many others - very common you are excited on having the WLS - you know your life will start to change for the better I see how smart you are - please don't continue to 2nd guess the wise decision you made months ago you went through a long, involved, hard process went through allll the hoops to get to where you are in being able to get WLS march 5 its ok to be nervous, scared, but try not to let it get the better of you this board is here for you and all other pre-sleevers alike once you get the sleeve - you won't believe how much healthier and happier you will continue to be having few nerves are worth it in the long run - considering what your new life will be like happy sleeve day good luck speedy recovery

    Something Interesting

    I tried something interesting that tasted very good today. I normally buy plain greek yogurt and put in a little vanilla and splenda to sweeten it (I can't for the life of me find greek yogurt without sugar sweetner). I dumped a little cinnamon in there this time along with the usual vanilla and splenda. It tastes awesome! I'm surprised the yogurt makers don't have this as an offering. It rocks!

    Foods that aren't good after band.

    I still love good food.. hope that I never lose my interest in eating. I had pneumonia in Nov. and lost my sense of taste.. boy that was miserable.. loss of appetite completely is not healthy. I have changed my taste for crap food for sure. getting off of Sugar is the biggest change and I can tell if I do eat something sugary how my body reacts that it's not good for me. I eat better foods and healthier but I still love food. I cook more than I ever did before the band. My husband loves it but he needs to gain weight so It's good . I have always loved ice cream and still do but I know it's not good for me. I eat frozen yogurt yasso or skinny cow but in limited amounts. I doubt I could eat a hamburger and fries. I do love chic filet chicken tortilla Soup and Wendy's chili those are the only fast food items I will eat. but we are all different that is what makes the world go around. Eating less and healthy is the key to being successful with the band..

    I am only 2 weeks out and since I can't return to work yet friends are always trying to take me out. i keep a Protein shake on me and plenty of Water. I've also carried yogurt and crystal light with me and keep some in the car so i always have something. For you I would say to just choose from the low cal menu since most restaurants have one or choose anything with fish and greens, any other healthy decisions...Good Luck!
  10. I have a costco Premier shake each day and that is 30 grams of protein. I also "fortify" Greek Yogurt with a flavorless whey protein and that averages another 30 grams. Then adding another 20 grams through eggs, cheese, cottage cheese or Peanut Butter. Means that I get enough protein in. I hope this explanation helps.

    Mixed with tuna instead of mayo, shred or dice a little apple and celery with it and a little lemon pepper. They served samples at support group one night night and NOT being a Greek yogurt (or any yogurt!) fan, it was still really good. (They used some honking big radish of some sort and cut it super thin like chips to dip in to it. Yum!)
  12. Νοτ all people lose at the same rate. Other people's stats are there for encouragement not to freak you out. I l ost quite a bit of weight the first month but i started out at a VERY high number and that does make a difference. No two people are same. However you know you shouldn't be eating sweets. Haven't you had your first post-op yet? Your NUT will tell you what the right food for you is. What mine told me was that i could eat basically anything except sugar. i am allowed one dessert per week. i should eat very small quantities every 2 hours and protein at every meal. I never took the shakes. I get my protein from yogurt, low-fat cheese, fish and nuts Make sure you get lots of liquids and if you cant exercise try to at least walk. Hang in there, you WILL lose the weight. 35pounds is not a small amount especially for someone who's been "cheating".

    4 days post op

    I started protein shakes yesterday, and that did help some, but after having a cup of broth which takes 30 min or longer to finish, less than an hour later my stomach growls!! I am so afraid of getting something stuck also. I use yoplait vanilla yogurt and I have frozen fruit and bananas that I put in the blender so there are no chunks it's all smooth. I put some ice in the blender too so it's liquid, just a little more filling. Sounds like your diet is more restrictive than mine, but at this point my band is wide open. I don't get a fill until 6 weeks post op. In the hosp I had a thicker broth than I have here and also italian ice. My yogurt kind of reminds me of the italian ice, it's just not frozen. I will definitely keep in touch and keep me posted on your progress as well.
  14. Oh, and something else I just noticed: It only had 8gms of protein! Wow. usually my Greek yogurt ( I usually eat Natures Path at 120 calories for 6 oz) has 15 gms. How can TJ's even sell this as Greek Yogurt? Seems like it should be in the dessert aisle...

    Dannon light n fit Greek yogurt for me too. 80 calories, 12 G protein. Anything with honey in it is bound to be high calorie. My honey jar says 60 calories in a tbsp.

    Every doctor does have different eating plans. But just because they say to do it doesn't mean you have too. In my case at 19 days post op there is no way I can start purees yet, my body does not feel up to it yet, so listen to your body. My NUT is on board with this and says some can take 4 weeks to get to purees. Also I hear chicken should be the absolute last food to try, some say that canned, like tuna, may be easier. Stick to pureed eggs, tuna, soft fish, beans, cottage cheese and yogurt.

    Good for you! That is awesome. I likely will have bits of: mashed avocado homemade hummus (I'll try mixing Protein powder into it to try to boost the protein content). Greek nonfat yogurt scrambled eggs blended Soups such as split pea with ham and lentil Soup (also with attempt to add protein powder) Protein Powder ice cream juicy roasted chicken blended with gravy to a soft consistency (or beef or any other meat my family is eating, my portion doctored so I can eat with them) Campbell's Soup At Hand, tuna salad butter chicken, pureed to baby food consistency mashed banana blended with Peanut Butter Roasted garlic polenta grits with a bit of butter or reduced fat cream cheese mixed in with pepper pumpkin pie innards Mashed sweet potato Low fat cottage cheese Baked pureed skinless apple with cinnamon Baked potato soup, blended (homemade of course) Cream of mushroom soup, blended (also homemade) Chilled cucumber soup with garlic and mint Mushroom risotto with parmesan Fresh fruit sorbet, homemade with whatever is in season (peaches, strawberry, etc) And probably tons of more stuff.     Ha! Dont worry Kathy - you can put that varooom car in neutral. Today I had TWO hershey w/almond bars and (so far) SIX cups of lo-carb yogurt cups (6???)... plus the meals Ive eaten. So Im not 1 less pound then you any longer. :biggrin1: The PIG has arrived! **for the record, I didnt take my tenuate today. Thank God something is helping.** I even FEEL like Ive gained. :paranoid

    @@TexasMom5 So on a typical day I eat at least some cold cuts and cheeses, usually some cheddar and at least one mini babybel. For the meats I get good quality seasoned turkey cold cuts from the deli ( I like the boar's head cajun turkey breast). I eat a boiled egg several times per week. Greek yogurt 1-2 times per week. I eat one of the Oscar Meyer P2 Protein Snacks almost every day, it's very easy for me to pack for work. That contains turkey, cheddar and almonds. 16 grams protein, about 170 cals. For dinner I normally have something hot like chili (I concentrate on eating the chunks of meat as much as possible rather than the liquid), a hamburger patty with cheese or some kind of gravy or red sauce (can only eat about half), taco meat (shredded beef or briskit), meatballs in red sauce, grilled shrimp, etc. Today for lunch we went out and I got blackened shrimp with vegetables. If I have a half of a Protein shake I can make my goal of at least 60g per day with the rest being the real foods mentioned above. I drink either premier chocolate thinned with 1% milk, a cup of plain 1% milk, or a GNC Lean 25 pre-made shake in the Strawberries and Cream flavor. This is my favorite because it is very very thin and tastes really good. 170 cals, 25 g protein, low sugars/carbs, lactose free. These are available at GNC stores. Hope this helps somewhat. I track with MFP once or twice per week to see how I an doing on goals (cals, protein, carbs, etc). I also try to have 2 or 3 Fiber gummies daily as I am still trying to figure out how to integrate some veggies into my diet. Really still mainly focused on my Proteins for now.
  20. I'm only on mushies but I tend to do yogurt for Breakfast around 8 Morning snack of string cheese around 10 and lunch at 12 usually left over dinner. I do an afternoon snack at 3 or dinner at 4 and an evening snack at 8. Sent from my SCH-I545 using the BariatricPal App
  21. I went back to work 5 days post op. I still struggle to get Water in, mostly because i get distracted and forget. I usually have a fairlife "shake" for Breakfast, oikos yogurt or cheese/meat or leftovers for lunch, cheese/protein shake for snack. HW 385 SW 359 CW 338 Sleeved 10/5/16

It's important to note that this is not a low-calorie meal. This was yummy, but I would not add the brownie bites in the future -- they add 100 calories and 14g of carbs, which isn't worth it for the minimal flavor boost. Also, I typically use ff Lactaid milk, but dh brought home reduced fat and I didn't realize it. So, the reduced fat milk has 130 calories per cup, versus only 80 for the ff version. The caramel syrup has no nutritional value for a 1-oz. serving.   24. HI Kat, I too am in bandster hell. The nutritionist actually told me I should be eating no more that 2 oz at a meal; I said so you're telling me that a 6 oz. yogurt is 3 meals??? Needless to say, I am not following her guidlines. I am tracking everything I eat on Lapband.com. So far for this month ( I was banded on 6/26/09) I've been averaging 721 cal, 25g fat, 47g carb and 76g protein a day. I have not been weighing myself. I weighed at the Dr. office on 7/6 and then again on 7/20 and lost 6 lbs - that makes 21 lbs since 6/18. I go for my fill on 8/6 and I can't wait!!! It's really difficult at this point.     Mushy Stage Suggestions

    I am just entering the mushy stage tomorrow. I'm honestly petrified, I'm normally a very picky eater and have some sensory texture issues with food so I'm really not sure how I'm gonna pull it off for three whole weeks. The eggs I can do, and applesauce and yogurt but not sure about anything else. I could use suggestions too!
