I had a laparoscopic hysterectomy about 3 years ago. I had no pain whatsoever. Spent one night in hospital and home by lunch the next day. I was driving within a week of surgery. I don't even think I took any of my pain meds after I got home
-
It wasn't terrible, but much more painful than the sleeve. As with any surgery you will feel the most pain and soreness after the first few days. I had to have help getting in and out of bed for about a week (I have a high bed & I am short). I was out on med leave for 3 weeks after my hysterectomy-and you will need every bit of that time to start to feel normal. Just don't pull, lift, and over - exert yourself and you will be fine. Good luck!

Second Fill WOAH!!!
iwokeupfat replied to Princess_Gottalose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my 4th fill 3 weeks ago. I've never had a problem with a fill until this time. liquid went down fine and still does. I just can't get any solid food down yet. I think the band might be too tight. I see my doc this Thursday. Every time I try to chew chew chew and swallow food it hurts and comes back up within 15 minutes. (even soft and mushies) So.. I'm sticking with Protein Drinks and broth until I see my doc. Hope you are doing better. -
Gallbladder post op question...
terry1118 replied to terry1118's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no problem with staying away from higher fat foods, especially now. Since surgery lowfat is a way of life. BUT, an hour ago I had some buffalo chicken tenders (with most of the breading picked off) with a couple tbsp of blue cheese to cool it and moisten it. I hope the blue cheese doesn't cause an issue. How long do you think this will this last approximately? I see my surgeon in Feb for my 9 month post op. If it's still bothering me in 2-3 weeks I'll check with the nurse. If it eases up some I'll just wait till Feb. On the plus side this is the first time I've eaten chicken and not been sick. It's sitting kind of heavy (I'm aware of it sitting there) but no queasiness or foamies. Yay! Yet another Protein option has become available to me! :-) -
Since then I've had three phills Sent from my SM-G920P using the BariatricPal App

I posted this in introductions, where, technically, it belongs. I am reposting here because the people in this section have been the ones that have helped me the most. I am going to introduce myself the right way, the honest way. I dont have a metabolism problem,I dont have emotional issues, bad parents, or any other excuse. I eat too much and drink too much. That simple. I had the surgery in January of 2010, it went well, and I was off to the races. I did my fills, and did ok. I didnt excel because I would have a few beers, a chip here and there, but all in all I had gone from 350 on the first visit, 340 on day of surgery to 290 in early October. Work got busy, I got lazy, and didnt get a fill for 5 months. Two weeks ago I weighed myself and was 333. I was disgusted. THe band is pointless, I thought. I did not do ONE THING WRONG, I told myself. I had the band, I ate slow. So what if I had a few beers, some pizza, candy, more candy. No, I didnt do one thing wrong. I did everything wrong. Two weeks ago I turned myself in. At first I thought I would be humiliated, but the doctor was actually very understading. I got my fill, went on my way, and started a new life. Then came Saturday. Basketball. One beer led to two, to five, to seven, to three white castles. I was back in form. Went home, melted mozzarella cheese in the microwave And two beers, a glass of wine. No more. I decided last Saturday this is it. I have been given a chance. Not a cure, not a miracle, not a panacea, a chance. When I got the band I thought why should I go on message boards? I can do this on my own. I am here now as one of the steps I must take to accomplish what I want. Not what I deserve, not what I should have, not what I paid for, but what I want and must earn, I have read a lot of posts and am glad I am here. Some good stories, some bad, some downright troubling, and some really uplifting ones. I have been on the board almost constantly since Saturday reading. My initial purpose for reading was to see if this board was worthy of my time. Usually people pay me for my time, I figured, so why waste it here. It didn't take long to realize that I am the one who isn't worthy of your time. I hope in time I can contribute here, and assure you I will when I can. For now, though, I apprecite you guys letting me ride your coattails.

Ok guys, I'm pretty much a newbie to the website, only joined a few weeks ago. I got my surgery date last week. It's September 6th, three weeks from today. I gotta admit, I'm getting nervous. I had Lap Band surgery four years ago (it failed, miserably) so this is a revision. It's the fact that they'll be cutting out 90% of my stomach that's freaking me out. Yeah, I know that's what I signed up for, it's just the procedure itself that's making me nervous. I had a client who had bypass surgery a few years back and when they went to make the connections her stomach/intestinal tissue was so fragile they could barely reconnect. She had tons of problems with leaks and almost died. So while my logical mind tells me that was a very freak event, my emotions are playing hell with me. I could really use some encouraging words from some of you guys who have been through this. Thanks!

Hi you all. I had my surgery last week Tuesday 3/25. I had a large hiatle (not sure of spelling) hernia. My doc said half my stomach was in my chest. I went for leak test and dye got stuck. It did go down next day.I also had Fluid in my lungs. I was in hospital for 4 days. My doc wanted 5 but I begged him to let me go home. I am better today but had to have more fluid put in me yesterday through Iv at doc office. To be honest I regretted the surgery for the first few days. I cant wait to get to next stage in diet because am so sick of shakes now. I am sorry if I sound ungrateful or negative. I am sure I will be OK and my funk will change.

Ever feel like this process is one big test?
ready2B replied to ready2B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
More frustration: I got a letter back from the insurance company already (it was only submitted Thursday) but they apparently didn't get even half of the stuff my doctor's office was supposed to send! So now I am trying to get ahold of them to get all the rest of my documentation in their hands so they can approve it. I was surprised to get a response so quickly - I held my breath as I opened the letter, thinking "Dare I believe it could be approved already?!" Ha. Oh well, wishful thinking and another few sleepless nights. Still no word on whether or not my doctor has approved medical clearance either. There was a week delay already because they had misplaced one little piece of paper in my chart. Very frustrating. -
Problems with insurance?
Dickens22 replied to learningpatience's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Something like that happened to me. I was denied. I went in to my PCP and got weighed again and was approved and scheduled by end of the week. Your doc can dispute it easily. -
Ok after I got the clearance from insurance(they told me it would be at least 3 weeks before I even would be scheduled) my surgeons office called Tuesday Sept 21st and gave me a surgery date of Monday Sept 27th. At that time she told me to start on a liquid diet I had already had breakfast and lunch by then, so I started the liquid diet the next day the 22nd, my dilema I struggled and slipped twice since then now my Surgery is tomorrow and I am scared, But the other dilema is if originally I was told I would need to be on a liquid diet for 2 weeks and I was scheduled for surgery with only 5 days of a liquid diet how important is it really? my BMI is 43 wt 267 ht 5feet 6inches need help dont know if I should cancel tomorrow and rescedule.

Hi I'm new here. I had the lap band March 18. I'm 3 week post op. My journey has been a difficult one. I feel nauseous alot sometimes with gas pain. Eating makes me feel better but at some point during the day I get that feeling. I take gas x I know it helps but not well enough. I'm just tired of feeling sick at least half the day. On a brighter note when I do feel good, I feel real good just a little weak. My doctor put me on solids last Wed. It's hard determining what to eat at times. Sometimes I get so hungry just because I don't know what to eat that won't send me to that uneasy place. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

Northern Minnesota - The Journey Begins
RunningA5K posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi everyone, I am in Northern Minnesota, and am super excited to be starting this journey towards my surgery. Many years ago I was ready to have the Lap Band done, and because of my insurance at the time, they didn't approve it for anyone. After having my hopes and dreams dashed so many years ago, I got back 'up on the horse' and am starting the process again, with insurance that will pay for it. It feels like a blessing because I now know that I wouldn't have wanted the Lap Band (hindsight is always 20/20 right?) So, I have my initial 2 hour appointment (1st hour with nurse and 2nd hour with dietician) coming up in about a week and a half, and am really looking forward to moving towards the goal of the VSG. -
ok so since my follow ups with my dr are now further apart and I wont be able to weigh myself as frequently.. I went to Bed Bath and Beyond tonight and bought The Biggest Loser scale to have at home. Got home, sat it on the kitchen floor.. set it to zero.. and here goes nothing......... It showed that I was only 2lbs lighter than a week ago! THEN.. i moved it to the bathroom got on it again and it showed that im 4 lbs heavier since last week! WTF! I am miserable right now..... and so discouraged. I should not be gaining or losing just 2lbs a week yet Could it be the scale?? Has anyone had issues with home scales? Now this is going to be weighing on my mind.. ugh

Yes, exercises do work. You have lots of facial muscles and they can be firmed up just like any other muscle in your body. Yo firm the neck, close your mouth and then try to smile as wide as you can. If you look in the mirror, you will see the neck wobble kind of suck up and nearly disappear. Hold this for 5 seconds and then relax. Repeat it several times and then "do it" when you're driving or watching TV, etc. You'll notice a difference in a few weeks.

I get a significant sinus headache, the kind that no amount of Tylenol Sinus can help. I get it one eye or the other, never both, behind my eyebrow and slightly behind my eye. It's a very distinct pain. Within three days it rains, every single time since I was about 9. I'm a human barometer. Oh, and it also seems to rain every time I wear a pair of new shoes, go figure. Once in when I was in highschool I was getting out of my friends car, our school was on a hill... my new shoe slipped off and fell in the gutter and took off like a raft on a river.

Hi I know just what you mean, I felt like that too. Almost like it just wasn't working for me. I lost a few pounds initially, then after week 2 I didn't lose any weight for 2.5 weeks. When I got back on regular food I even gained 3 back. Then after a no scale movement spell, I finally dropped a couple, and now I average 1-2 pounds a week. I find that I lose the most regularly when I drink lots of Water. I'm 8 weeks out and I've lost 22 pounds, I lost 12 pounds the first 3 weeks, then nearly nothing for a few weeks. Be patient, your body is adjusting. You're probably retaining water because of the trauma related to the surgery, and subsequent intake reduction. So your body is in starvation mode, it's holding on to everything. It will eventually adjust, and if you're eating the right kinds of foods you'll start losing again. Remember Protein first, then veggies, then if you have room, carbs or a bite of dessert. Those who stress drinking lots of water aren't just playing lipservice, I found out the hard way that they are absolutely right. When I go through the drive ups, no more cokes for me, I ask for ice water, when I'm home, it's harder for some reason to get the water in, but I'm making the effort and it's paying off. I buy bottled water, a case is much cheaper than pop, and keep it in the fridge, that seems to help. good luck, and hang in there. You're headed in the right direction.

It's a well known complaint before the first fill and even sometimes, the second or third that people aren't dropping weight. Remember, the average weight loss (over a period of time) is 5-10lbs per month. This may not happen every week, consistently, but I can almost promise you by this time next year, you will have lost an average of 5-10lbs per month AS LONG as you have met the band halfway. Protein, Water and exercise. During this trying phase of being UNfilled, you may want to try tracking your foods on www.fitday.com. Sometimes carbs and fats slow us down and we're not even aware we're loading up on them. This is not something you'll want to do every single day of your life, but it is good to go there and check on your habits for a few days at a time to see if you're heading in the right direction. Sometimes, we're not getting ENOUGH calories... check it out and see! Good luck!

Got my date... now questions
TulipStar replied to MileHighGreen's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would definitely recommend you have someone stay with you the first 24-48 hours. I couldn't get up from a sitting position by myself without help from my husband. (this includes sitting down and getting up from the toilet). At 48 hours I could sit and get up by myself but just slowly. I honestly thought that I would be driving around and shopping by day 3, but I was slower to recover. I drove on day 6, but I still had some pain. I went back to work on day 7, but if I dropped something, I still couldn't bend over and pick it up. Make sure you have lots of fluid/broth. sugar-free popsicles are a must have. Get a lot of different kinds. Also, I was lactose intolerant right after the surgery, so when I used milk for my Protein shake, it made my stomach upset. The dr. said this is normal and it went away after about 3 weeks. Congratulations on your surgery date!! You are going to love the banded side -
