  1. Hey Meeshee!! We may just be having the surgery at the same time. I met with the surgeon today. I have to see the nutritionist next week, then the physiological appt and then a scope test. I don't think I will have to have a supervised nutrition plan. In getting excited! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Hi everyone, I tried to do some research on this before I posted but didn't seem to find anything. I've never had a problem taking pills before. I would take a few smaller pills at a time, no problem. I'm currently one month post op, and I've been taking my surgeon prescribed Prilosec and actigall since one week post op. I had been having trouble getting these down. It wasn't so much my stomach giving my problems, it was actually swallowing them, and getting them to my stomach. They felt like they were stuck in the back of my throat! I drank Water but it didn't seem to help, slowly I would feel them going down. Now that I'm a month post op, I just added a one a day Multivitamin capsule instead of the liquid I was taking, and it's really thrown me off the deep end. I feel like they get in my throat and two days in a row I had to run to the bathroom because I was this close to throwing up. I just can't think of a reason why I would be having physical difficulties swallowing pills now. Once they make it to my stomach I'm fine. Is this all in my head? Has anyone else had this issue? Or any suggestions? I'll talk to my doctor next week anyway. Thanks for the help! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Buddies in Boston?

I'm in that weird limbo period between doctor's visits...still awaiting a surgery date and getting really impatient! I have my final clearance next week, and final appointment with the surgeon following that. I feel like if I don't hurry up and get this surgery I'm going to chicken out...anyone else feel that way? Hating the waiting game...

    Where To Start?

My preop diet consisted of a protein shake breakfast and lunch then dinner I was allowed 4oz of protein and a veggie and then of course you can have all the sugar free jello and popsicles for snacks I always stayed under 700-800 calories daily you'll have a headache the first couple of days but just take some Tylenol and it will pass after the first few days it really wasn't hard you can do it !!!!! I lost 16 lbs on my two week preop diet I felt prepared after surgery on my liquid diet :-)

    Alchol/Carbonation

Brandy: I was banded almost a year and a half ago. I have a diet soda a few times a week. Sometimes the bubbles come back up in my throat. So, to avoid that I stir the heck out of a coke with ice before having a sip. Another thing I do is let it go flat in the fridge. I find that banded people are already a bit extra gassy, so I usually stir the carbonation out. Haven't had any issues with the band, so haven't had a scan to see if band is stretched. My surgeon just said at recent support group that soda won't hurt your band. Good luck. Sue
  6. Hello, Anyone from Fresno California area? Last week Friday day all my paper work was submitted to insurance. I'm crossing my fingers that I am approved! If approved, Dr. Felix will be doing my lap-bad, he seems super nice. Anyways, after i'm banded I will be looking for an exercise partner. Anyone up for it?

    New here

Not a good idea at all. Can't you vacation before the surgery so all can enjoy it? You are supposed to walk every hour after surgery to prevent blood clots. If he won't budge on his vacation plans then you need to postpone surgery for after you get back. The first week after is the worse, pain wise, getting used to sipping liquids, getting your protein needs met. Will not be a vacation for you but just a nightmare.
  8. My doc is conservative too. I had restiction from the surgery and was supposed to have a fill at 4 weeks. I postponed to 5 weeks and he did 1.5cc. the next one was 1cc and the third was 0.5 cc. So I have 3 cc ni my band and am still losing slowly. As long as I get all my Protein, and make it very lean, then eat low carb veggies and occasionally fruit, I am not too hungry. I do not care how I lose it, as long as it comes off. I have lost in the past, especially on low carb, high protein. I think the beauty of the band is I will not gain it back. I am trying to focus on learning how to use my band, learning new eating habits and changing my lifestyle to keep it off. I figure if it takes a little longer to lose it, it is just more time to practice!!!!!!! Also supposed to be better for avoiding the loose skin if you lose slower!
  9. Hi my name is Carrie. I am new to the sight but have been working on getting a gastric sleeve since April. I was approved last week! I almost threw up when they told me. Lol! I was not a heavy child but as I went through college and got married it seemed like all I did was put on weight. I tried weight watchers and atkins and nutritionists and it seemed like I would lose a little bit of weight and then I would stall and then I would go back to eating the same way again. I have been through a lot in my life and stress is a big factor. My father died when I was nineteen and my mother died the day after my twin boys were born. I have a twin brother and half brothers and a half sister. My family is small. My husband is not supportive of this surgery. I feel all alone because of that. I was diagnosed with gastritis and that has put off my surgery because they thought I had h.pylori but I don't. My surgery date is suppose to be August 5. My husband wants to leave for vacation on Aug 9th. Idk if that is possible but I am going to try. We are going to NC and we live in NJ. We are driving. God help me! I am glad I have found this sight.
  10. Well today I had a bad day! Finally broke down and went to the doctor. Been pretty miserable over the last 2 months with reflux, and being way to tight. Couple bites of anything was all I could handle at a sitting. Under fluoroscopy today he saw my band had a slight slip. He's hoping with the fluid out of the band it will correct itself. So for the next 4 weeks I'm living with no fill and scared to death!!!! I've managed to lose 119 lbs dice being banded feb 2011. Went from a pants size 22 to now an 8! I'm terrified not having that restriction. I know I can do it because I've changed my life but wondering if any others have had a similar situation????
  11. Well, tomorrow I start my journey to the "Losers Club"....will be glad to getting the next couple of weeks behind me....

    2 months

Way to go! I also had my two month post-op this week. I have lost 53 pounds. I am doing my first 5K on Saturday . I feel great I bet you do too!
  13. I am a week and a half post op, and experiencing my first cravings: tomatoes, cucumbers, and carrots. To drink? Ice-cold fresh Water. I am, of course, still in liquids, but added yogurt this week. I really enjoy the Bariatric Pal Cream of chicken Soup as well. I never craved fresh vegetables before, so I could get used to craving something healthy!! I hope it's still what I crave layer when they are something I can eat.. 14. I am 6 weeks out as of Thursday, however, Monday evening I began to feel nauseas anytime I ate or drank anything. By today I am throwing up and just feeling nasty I'm not worried about a leak. This is the first time in my whole six weeks I have thrown up and it had nothing to do with food!! Has anyone experienced their first flu since having the sleeve and what did you do to stay hydrated and get over it quickly?? Sprite is usually my go to when I have the flu but that's obviously not an option!! Any advice???
  15. I've been so antsy getting things going on having my surgery and today I finally feel like it's gonna be real. I went to my seminar on 4/26 and couldn't get in for a consult appt with the surgeon until 5/14. I scheduled all my screenings over a week ago and they are all happening this week. Today I had my pshych screening, she thinks I am a good candidate for surgery YEAH!!!! Tonight I am going to my first support group meeting. So it's beginning to feel real. I can't believe how nervous I was for the psych appt. I wonder what I will be like before surgery. LOL By the time this week is over I will have all my screenings done, hopefully! I go on vacation on May 16th and hope to have surgery anytime after that.
  16. I just left Barnes and Noble sure that I would find some great books regarding "Life After Bariatric Surgery"...no. Nothing. I'm looking for some resources on ideas for eating, especially in the 2-6 weeks period. During the time I need to eat "mushies" I am traveling and I really need to know what to pack for food. I won't be hitting any restaurants at all. Plus, I want a good variety because the temptation at the resort where I am going (business trip) will be tough to handle! Is there a web-site with this information? Maybe something that could even be printed out?
  17. I have no real cravings for food usually. I eat what I like, I don't want for sweets or anything "bad". Then that special time of the month comes around and my brain thinks that I am back to my "old" self. I crave cake, pastry, ice cream, chocolate - what the hell???? I crave it so much that I mistakenly think I can eat a few bites of them - and then I feel sick and crappy. It's so weird, my brain just forgets all the experiences of the past several months and the cravings are exactly the same as they were before the surgery. For a day I get really worried thinking that the magic of the surgery has worn off and then I remember that hormones are very powerful. By the end of the week I should be back to my new normal and these compulsions will be behind me. ANyone else have this happen to them? I also notice that my hot flashes come back during this time.
  18. Hey Guys and Gals, I'm two weeks out now (banded on 12/04) and I'm feeling pretty good!!! I still have two weeks to go on clear liquids and protein drinks and then I can start some soft foods. I will be real glad when I can have the soft foods but it really isn't too bad now as far as hunger goes. The first week was pure hell and now it has just been a mind set with me as far as my hunger goes. I just figure that it's what my doctor wants me to do and he's the expert. The GREAT part is that from the start of my pre-op diet until now, I've lost 55 LBS!!! I'm stoked!!! Here is wishing everyone gods blessings and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! Spike.

    First Fill Today!

I was banded on Jan 27th and i have my first fill in a couple weeks and i am pretty nervous about it. How did it go? You are doing so great with your weight loss!
  20. Are there any appetite suppressants to help get through the 2 week pre-op diet? I'm 4 days into it & already tired of the meal replacement foods! I'm very impatient to things like this!
  21. My doctor put me on phentermine for my three month supervised diet (his idea, I didn't even ask for it). I've taken it before with some success, but it honestly doesn't do a lot for me. I don't really feel any different. Fortunately no side effects, but only a slight decrease in appetite so far. Anyhow, some of the information my surgeon's office gave me included no diet pills for at least two weeks before surgery. So just make sure you clear it with your surgeon before taking anything. And whatever happens, best of luck! You can do this.

    On The Other Side

Congrats!!! Welcome to the other side. Mine was a piece of cake as well. with each day I felt better and better. By my one week post op appt. I almost felt normal. FYI....the gas strips everyone talks about, they don't work. Heating pad and plenty of walking helps the best. Good Luck!!
