September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
mikala3672 replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi September Sleevers!! I was sleeved on 9/15 I had no pain the hospital stay was very relaxing did my walks on the hospital floor had to keep up with the old Asian guy that question why I was only doing one walk around and he does 4 so my competitive side came out and I had to do 5 rounds. Lol! Came home on 9/17 on a full liquid diet my shakes I could handle the first day and a half then my taste buds didn't want any so I had to try several different ones to get my protein. I'm kinda cheating substituting a shake meal for a yogurt that has 15grams. I've so far walked everyday and today I finally let out a tiny baby size pebble of poop so at least that still works. Good Luck everyone!! You got this! HW 233 SW 214 CW 208 GW 127 Height 5'1 -

I'm just now on full liquids. Surgery was 9/14. Clear liquids for Days 1-4, Full liquids for Days 4-14, then puréed foods and then soft foods. Are you still on clear liquids or full? On full liquids milky grits counts, as well as high protein yogurt, pudding, protein shakes. -

I think when you get on solid foods and are able to eat dense proteins you will find a different situation is at hand. I still have certain foods I can eat a lot of (soups, chili, yogurt) vs. when I eat dense protein and veggies. Also even if you find you can eat more than you should of something you have to work on the willpower to stop when you know you should. My NUT also had a good trick for me, when you feel hungry drink water and wait a few minutes. Often times it's head hunger.

September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
blondetbird replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was sleeved on 9/14. Day four post op here and I am starving. Can drink with no problems, loving the premier protein waters. I have had broth and yogurt today. Averaging about 250 calories a day. I am just praying this feeling of hunger goes away! Not much pain at all, but the roof of my mouth has been sore every since coming home from the hospital. Anyone use sugar free candy to help with hunger? Day of preop diet start. 253 SW 236 CW 233 -
I pretty much lived in the recliner for the first 3-4 days after surgery. I wouldn't say it's an absolute necessity, but if you have easy access to one, take advantage of it. I didn't have a walker, and after the first week I wouldn't have used it anyway. I completely lost my appetite for the first couple of weeks… it was like the early post sleeve days… I was living on protein shakes & Greek yogurt. If your surgeon hasn't provided it, full body compression garment is a must. And LOTS of pillows!! Good luck!

Able to eat soft foods 1 week post op
shanicebarry posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good evening, I am posting because my recovery has been a bit odd, I plan on contacting my doctor tomorrow, because I am able to eat soft foods without any issues. My scars have been healing well, I've been active and hungry, today I was able to eat 1/2 cup of cream of wheat, 1/4 cup of yogurt and a cheese stick. I don't know if this is normal, but I technically shouldn't be this advanced until next week. I'm losing weight, but I want to make sure that nothing has gone wrong. Is anyone else experiencing this? Thanks! -
What is a typical meal day in phases 2 and 3?
ZinNH replied to Mytimenow17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm also in phase 2. I drink 3 protein shakes throughout the day. I have half a cup of Greek yogurt for lunch, and half a cup of cream of chicken soup (strained and mixed with milk) for dinner. calorie wise I'm coming in around 750 or so. I'm focusing on protein so my body can heal. The calorie counting and all that comes in later, once we've moved on to real food. -
I ate cereal for breakfast on Saturday. Everyone is different and everyone has different triggers. For me personally, it isn't a trigger food and I enjoy a change to my usual greek yogurt from time to time. I like the Special K protein cereals with a little Fairlife milk.

September Sleevers- How are you feeling??
shanicebarry replied to Ash_Bri85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 9/12. I have been doing well. I'm supposed to be on liquids, but I was feeling extremely weak, so I had some cream of wheat. I'm not having any issues getting foods down, and I don't feel sick afterwards, I have been loosing weight since surgery I lost 4lbs, bc the gas had to leave my system. With preop diet and surgery thus far I've lost 18 lbs. I'm not upset at how my weight is dropping I just want to work out honestly. I try to walk a lot during the day bc I love to exercise. I'm sure my doc will be mad that I advanced myself on soft foods 1 week early, but I need the energy. I go back to work tomorrow and everything has healed well for me. I'll try to eat healthier soft foods like non fat Greek yogurt tomorrow. But as for now all is well. I'm a very active person so I want to make sure that my metabolism can keep up with me. My stats are below. First visit: 245 lbs Before preop diet: 236 lbs After preop: 225 lbs Cw: 218 lbs -
So, maybe try to find something with the most bang for your buck. Protein water, milk, bone broth, or drinkable/thinned yogurt can all give you calories and nutrients, including protein. Keep trying different stuff till you find something you tolerate better. It also helps me to walk right after I eat. Seems to help things move instead of feeling like a rock. I'm trying not to get discouraged
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to celticNgel's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think my number one hint would be to try a variety of protein shakes to see what you like--knowing that your tastes may chance post-op. And find other options for getting your protein besides the shakes, because you almost certainly will get very tired of them. I have used protein water, yogurt, and some high-protein soup to help with this; now that I can, I also have cottage cheese and some pureed things. But I still needed a shake today to make the goal--I'll be so happy when I can do that without them! Best of luck! -
I was a lacto-ovo-peco-tarian ( a vegatarian who eats eggs, milk products, and fish) for a year. I got protein from cottage cheese, greek yogurt, hummus, peanut butter, soy beans, quinoa, and protien bars.

Has anyone seen any pumpkin flavored protein bars or powders? I'm not overly fond of the pumpkin pie yogurts that have been offered the last few years, but looking for options other than the pumpkin mini muffins in the office.

After a weight loss surgery the key ingredient is the amount of protein that is in the powder(20-27 grams), then looking for high calories, fat(less than 3 grams), & carbs(5-7 grams). Oh & not to forget the TASTE, if it does not taste well it would not be consumed leaving you not getting your daily intake of protein 60 grams per day for women. Unjury is a WHEY ISOLATE, not just whey, soy, casein, or made with pea flour. Sugars are high in most things consumed jellos, popscicles, yogurt, etc... starting a new weight loss journey we're eating far less and not able to eat foods that give us vitamins & nutrients we generally need. Therefore we utilize supplements to give us what's missing i.e. Fiber, iron, calcium, B vitamins, biotin in a nutshell vitamins & minerals.

It is common to have some limited weight gain after weight loss surgery. They call it a 20 pound bounce. The important thing is not let go beyond this 20 pounds. Most times this weight gain is due to a poor choice of snacks. Snacks should be limited to primarily to whole food options: nuts, natural nut butters, fruits, veggies, boiled eggs, string cheese, yogurt with berries and almonds, tuna pouches. Avoid processed packaged foods as much as possible. Also do not expect to lose weight at a rate similar to right after surgery. Generally if you gained the additional weight over a couple years, then it may take a couple years of watching what you eat to get back down.

Question. Today is beginning of my 3rd week post surgury (gastric bypass) how does your body loose weight getting off liquids and start mushy food today
dyemond11 replied to Desiree molina's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
It's weird how the body works, but just so you know you will come to a stall while eating right, I came upon many during my journey and I'm 9 months out. In the beginning there were many and I just felt I was doing something wrong, I would switch up my exercise, adding more water, less yogurt & more protein etc... times when I thought I wouldn't loose any weight I'd step on the scale and would have lost 5lbs. You will loose, you will even gain, and you will stall. Just stay encouraged everyone's body is different and will have different experiences. Good Luck in your new journey! -
Hi All, Heidi again! I'm now 10 days post-op! I'm feeling really good. I have a question for those similar to me or those who are beyond my stage. My surgeon is pretty aggressive with our timeline for introducing new foods. Week 1 -liquids, week 2- purée and some soft food (i.e. Cottage cheese, loose mashed potatoes, yogurt), week 3 soft food with not liquid during and after meals ( canned tuna, scrambled egg, 1/4 slice of toast) I haven't really been hungry, per se, but I want to ensure I am on target with my intake of protein and calories. I'm averaging under 200 calories and I'm trying to walk. Question: what are others eating at this point? I have had no negative effects to anything I have tried. Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks! HW 303 SW 290 CW 271 GW 150

Liquid phase protein alternatives
XYZXYZXYZ1955 replied to alyssa_vsg's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My saving grace has been protein water (Atklns Lift protein drink); it has 20 g of protein per bottle and, of course, counts toward the water requirement. There are some other brands--BiPro and Protein2o. Other options are yogurt and high-protein cream soups, as well as broths (ugh, not for me). Apparently there's something called PowerPak protein pudding, too. Good luck--I didn't much enjoy this phase, but I survived it, and you will, too. -
I eat Greek yogurt for breakfast every morning so I have to switch my lunch up or I would lose my mind. I bring a number of different items. Sometimes I do little protein packs with meat, cheese and nuts and put them in a container. I will sometimes make a sandwich using the Very Thin bread by Pepperage Farm or leftovers.

I never counted fat grams at all. During the weight loss phase, I counted protein and, after the first 3 or 4 months (when I could eat more), I started watching overall calories. I do intentionally eat some fat now (like full-fat yogurts, avocado, etc) because it keeps me full. But again, I watch my calories.

Vitamins- iron - calcium - D - B12 - confusion
catwoman7 replied to zleng's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
my program recommended chewable multis the first few weeks (although I still take chewable multis at over 2 years out). I just use Centrum chewable, or the generic equivalent (the latter is super cheap at CVS, especially when they go on sale, which is often). Some of the other vitamins I take are really small, so they were never a problem. Calcium pills tend to be huge, so I used (and still do) Upcal D (a powder which I mix into my morning yogurt) and calcium chews. Calcium *citrate* chews can be hard to find (although Vitamin Shoppe sometimes has them), but you can find them online. -
Any 2017 60'ish sleever's out there?

Niseys4, what are you eating on the pureed diet? My list includes yogurt, scrambled eggs, chicken, turkey, fish, cottage cheese--everything except the yogurt pureed, of course. But these all contain protein. I'd also suggest protein water--I personally think it's much better than the shakes and it does double duty, giving you both protein and water. My list includes vegetables and very limited fruit, but the mandate is always to get your water and protein first . . .
