Oh, and guess what the dr. recommends .... WATER (and exercise). Is there anything water doesn't help? Also, he advised wearing 10 - 20 mmhg compression hose as great preventatives - every day.

    Any O.N. or Graveshift workers?

I work 7 PM to 7 AM and exercise as soon as I get home. I have breakfast at 10 AM and go to sleep @ noon. Dinner is at 5 PM and then I pack a lunch to take to work and have that at 3 AM. On days off, I go back to a "normal" life.

    Any O.N. or Graveshift workers?

My dh and I both work the O.N. or graveshift. DH works 5pm-3:30am and I work 11pm-9am. We generally sleep till 3pm then get up and eat our supper meal together. Then dh is off to work shortly there after. I then have a small bite to eat around 8pm and then off to work by 10:30. I am able to snack some at work, but I try to choose healthy snacks. I generally eat a yogurt for breakfast at work or oatmeal or something similiar (around 6am). I get home around 9:15am and then stay up till 10:30, then head to bed. Any one else work the graveyard shift and how do you eat and exercise and all that good stuff?

    operation story

Thanks for your story. I know everyones experience is different and everyones doctor tells you something different. Your story is a lot different than mine. It seems like you were in a lot more pain and had a much worse experience than I did. (I was banded 2/4/10) I went into the surgery center at 6 and was on my way home at 10:30. I felt fine on the way home and the next day. The day after that I had quite a bit of shoulder pain from the gas and walking and burping and farting felt GREAT!!! But all my insides did not hurt like you were describing and them putting the camera down your throat when you were awake.....WTF??? That would scare the crap out of me too. I did go to the best surgery center in the state so everything and everyone was very nice and professional. To tell you the truth some of the things you described left me with my mouth wide open! My surgeon doesent want me to have any fills until 4 weeks and then wait until at least 4 more weeks. Your fill schedule seems awfully quick. I dont think your swelling has gone down enough to have a fill yet. Once you do eat you will feel restriction, mine is just like a pressure. Anyway, I am glad your feeling better and I wish you all the luck in the world I just thought I would tell you what happend to me compared to your story and like I said I am not a doc its just my 2 cents!

Queen, my veins weren't that bad before surgery. I did have one bruised vein area on top of foot (about 50 cent piece size) where it joins the ankle that had previously given me a lot of pain. It hurt a lot, and would feel like it was going to pop open when I first started walking and hurt so bad. But it doesn't hurt at all now. It's since reduced to about a 10 cent size piece and is much, much lighter in color. I'm exercising (bicyling) pretty regularly and previously did nil.

    Losing Like A Woman?

I got my second fill yesterday, so I'm up to 4cc in my band. I can definitely feel a little restriction now, unlike after the first fill. I hope this feeling will last and lessen my ravenous appetite! I only lost four pounds the past three weeks. My doctor didn't seem concerned at all. However, I saw the dietician later in the day and she said I was "losing like a woman." Ouch! She said she expects to see her ladies lose 3-5 pounds a month, but wants the men to lose 8-10. I felt pretty low all day...before the band that would have been enough to start me on a monster binge. But I'm tired of beating myself up, so I woke up today and decided to just shake it off, do the best I can, and hope for better results next time.
  8. All drs seem to have different criteria they follow but it's basically the same for the most part...I will answer your question based on my experience. You will want to check with your dr before deviating from his rules. I had to give up carbonation..the is my drs #1 rule. No food is off limits once On solids but my band isn't fond of rice or thick pasta. First month Week one clear liquids Week two creamy liquids Week three mushies....like yogurt, hummus, mashed veggies, mashed potatoes, oatmeal...anything blended to the consistency of baby food Once on solids at week 4 I started eating the way I did throughout my journey. 1000 calories each day with portion controls being paramount. I ate three meals a day of 3 oz protien, 1/2 c veggies and 1/4 starch. I was allowed 2 snacks of fruit or a sugar free treet or something salty like 10 small pretzel sticks
  9. I am so happy I just had to share! I just hit Onderland!! In the last 10 min I have been laughing and crying , hopefully the neighbors don't see me and think I've finally lost my mind. I can't even tell you when the last time was that I weighed under 200lbs, getting sleeved was certainly the right choice for me! I hope everyone has a chance to experience this kind of happiness. Anyways thanks for listening and hope you all have a great day!!!
  10. Thanks for asking. I’m feeling much better. I’m able to eat solid food now, and I started walking 10 minutes twice a day this week. I still have some pain on the left side and I still have to take my anti nausea meds 2-3 times a week, but there’s a huge improvement and considering where I cane from, I’m doing great!
  11. I had diarrhea for at least 10 days. Today I am constipated. I need those sugar-free gummy bears they sell on Amazon! LOL! (if you don't get this joke, look up the reviews. HILARIOUS!)

    Stomach sounds

I am 4 months out the VGS, and 10 years out of the RNY. In my experience, your stomach will always make noise, it will just lessen and become quieter over time. My friends and I joke and call them cartoon noises.

    Hello From St Louis

I do have a primary care physician but I never once said anything to them about my process. Actually - I still have not contacted them and I was banded on November 10th. I really like Dr Eagon and his staff! It was a 7 month journey for me but I am 6 weeks out and down 13 lbs which is the most weight I have lost in 6 weeks in 10 years. good luck and if you have any questions feel free to ask!

    Stall? Already?

I stalled after 10 days and only 11 lbs and now again after 6 lbs and nothing in a week...so i feel your pain, not flying off like I thought it would...groan.
  16. Something new I tried after a 2 month stall - interval training. I watched some Youtube videos about interval training. What I gathered is that interval training is giving maximum effort for a short period, rest and do it again. Interval training does not allow your body get used to the exercise, like it does with normal daily exercise. And you continue to burn fat for hours afterwards - as opposed to regular aerobic exercise. I have no proof that it works but I noticed that my weight started falling again once I started walking the stairs at work as fast as I could. Here's what I am experimenting with: I try to climb 5 floors of stairs at the fastest pace I can. One time a day. It is really exhausting and my legs feel rubbery afterwards. I can't climb all 5 floors without stopping for 10 breaths on the 3rd floor and 10 breaths on the 4th floor. When I can do it without stopping, I'll move to doing it 2 times a day. But if I didn't have stairs, I would use a jump rope or Zumba or Insanity Workout - 3 minutes going full out then stop. Wait 1 minute then do it again. The goal being a 30 minute workout. 17. I was sleeved on march 22 at MiDoctor with Dr. alejandro lopez...pls when you are on this forum you should clarify which drs you are using , used or thinking about. The names are similar and people should remember that it is these Drs livelihood you are messing with when making statements (even if they are true and personal) without being specific. With that said, my experience was great. No exaggeration. I've had surgeries in the states and my sleeve surgery was probably the second best next to my csection with my daughter. Clean, professional and informative. I must also mention that I went through Alighterme......haven't Ben on this forum in a while and companies do change but MY experience with them was great...Abraham the driver was the best. Four months lost 44lbs since. Size 18-10....goal weight 148....current weight 181 surgery weight 224. Highest weight 259 ...5'8" Sent from my iPad using VST
  18. Hey guys! My name is Brittany. I'm 24 and just starting this journey. I have my first appointment scheduled on Monday December 6th, 2010. For years, I have heard the same thing. "You would be so beautiful if you lost weight." It never meant anything to me, because I have always been happy and content with myself. Even now, I'm not ashamed of my weight. Only now, I'm looking down the road. Where I want to be in 10 years. And as much as I feel confidant, happy, and beautiful now. It's time to take care of myself, and my health. I recently started a youtube channel, which is a big deal. I have avoided video cameras and photos for quite some time. Because how I feel, and how I see myself in my head, just doesn't match up with what comes through that lens. Denial, much?! A bit I'm hoping this website, and my videos will be a great outlet and support system for what the next year will bring. xoxo, Brittany http://www.youtube.com/user/BrittsHouseOfHorrors

What Should I Be Feeling? Post Op Day 3

Im currently on day 7 and I didn't really turn a corner until day 4. The first 3 days are the worst. It also hurt when I breathed but I mad it a point to take 6-10 long slow deep breaths every hour. My doctor gave me a spirometer to breathe into. I wouldn't worry about throwing up the one time, could have been the pain meds or the pain itself. Just hang in there, the next couple of days will be so much better, I promise!
  20. Hi, I just got sleeved 10-4-11 so I am now looking at post-surgery posts and found your post. I will be 68 on the 24th of this month. I must say this was the easiest of now 4 abdominal surgeries, but not quite as I expected recovery wise. For one thing I have genuine hunger, not head hunger. The second thing is I am not making it on liquids only. I have pureed some chili, had 1/2 cup mashed beans with shredded chesse, and some sugar free pudding. From other posts I see some people are allowed mushies right out the gate. I haven't had any trouble with these foods. Sometimes I get an air bubble and have to wait until I burp. As far as exercise I have had both of my knees replaced and two discs in my back removed so I'm not doing handstands-don't ever expect to. I will be happy if I can walk without struggling for air. How are you doing? Would love to hear your ideas and where you are in all this. Monty

went to seminar feeling discouaged already!

I have only been banded since 10/27/11 and yes have only lost 9 pounds so far. What you heard is incorrect there are many people on here that have lost 100 pounds in a year and probably more than that. It is a slower process they want us to lose 1-2 #s per week. t also depends on how much you have to lose depends on how fast you will lose it.

    Shoe size changed?

Yep! 8 weeks out tomorrow. I went from 10 wide to just a plain 9.

    post opp burning pain

I know exactly what pain you are talking about. Although I have not had it with my sleeve (3/23/10), I did have it with both c-sections and hysterectomy. It hurts badly, but will subside as your body heals. Mine took a while because they were large incisions, hopefully yours will not last as long. I am only 4 days post op, but feel good. I hope you have a great recovery !!
  24. Hi all, I am 6 1/2 months out, and while I have experienced mini stalls along the way my current situation has me a little stressed out. I was averaging about 10 lbs a month but since the end of march I've only lost 5-6 lbs, which I was ok with. It has to slow down sometime right? But in the last two weeks I've crept up about 2 lbs. The only thing I've changed is that I've upped my calories from 800-900, my nut wants me at 1200 but I struggle to get even 900 and now that I'm gaining I'm hesitant to add more calories. Yes, I track everything on mfp. Yes, I get in all of my protein and water. Yes, I do low carb. I have been more active in the last few weeks, and, nothing. The stall I can handle, it's normal, healthy, blah blah, but the gaining really sucks. I've been between 175 and 171 for a month. Is this it?

    What to do until fill????

I don't understand why everyone is hungry....Pls enlighten me because maybe I am doing something wrong. I was banded on 3/10 and will have my first fill on May 6th. I have just been eating my normal food. I eat baked chicken and salad and whatever I want. Not junk food and most certainly not a lot, but I just eat until I feel my tightness and then I stop...I am not starving and I'm not sitting wanting food....Am I wrong???
