Unexpected Post Op Observations
GradyCat replied to lala75's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes, we call these NSV's - Non-Scale Victories. Mine include necklaces fitting around my neck that didn't fit before, my watch isn't cutting off my circulation, and I can see my toes! -
So true! That's a good NSV that I hadn't thought of, but you're right. I'm taking my first vacation post-op next week and already been packing and you're right!

I’m down 75#. Biggest NSV is that packing for a trip is so much easier. My jeans take up a fraction of the space! For someone who packs carry-on only, this is a HUGE (or maybe small) deal. :). I was even able to pack tennis shoes to work out - I’d never have had room for that before!! Now I just have to resist the urge to fill my bag.

I have a strange quasi- NSV. Now you all know I never lose inches , at least I had myself convinced that way. Doubting Thomas must have had a cousin , I'm Doubting Dora. Anyway I decided to put in my earrings, I'm triple- pierced, one for each child. I had a pair with very short posts, seldom wore them because they were not comfortable, well they are kind of pretty so I decided to put them in, my gosh when I started losing off my fat ,my earlobes must have lost weight also because the shorties fit fine.

Huge NSV’s yesterday. Went to Disneyland two week two days post op. I fit and could easily get off and on rides I haven’t even attempted for years! Weird though...the two roller coasters I went on usually tickle my tummy. Not this time. I guess there is less to tickle?!?!
-
Today, I realized that I could reach to snap and unsnap my bra. I've been pulling them over my head already done up! That was a surprise. So is the ease with which I can tie my shoelaces now. I think the NSV's are the best!
-
This is awesome, congratulations!! For me, it was realizing I am down 2-3 sizes from when I started this journey. It was so surreal having to return an article of clothing to get a smaller size. Yay for NSVs!!

Sometimes the Non-scale victories are more exciting than the numbers on the scale going down. Hooray for NSVs!

I have two NSV's this week I am super excited about! 1. My boss gave me a few of her pairs of jeans about a month ago.. and they barely hit the sides of my hips. I was able to put them on comfortably on Sunday!!! YAY!! I was so excited. 2. This morning, i went to tie my sneakers and i didn't realize till i was almost done that my leg was not up on the bed sideways so i could tie the shoe but crossed over my leg sitting up!!.. I thought i was dreaming when i realized it. What are your NSV's this week?

A terrifying and hilarious NSV

What does NSV mean? -
Oh I did have a seamless surgery, for the first 2 weeks except for having a bleed across my Fat tummy from a small skin blood vessel I was moving right along, losing back down my su4gery water weight and then more! I thought I had the bad things of Baiatrics beaten. And then suddenly I stopped and every time I attempted to eat anything expected except fluids, surgeon told me at 2 weeks I could handle stage 3 , keep moving along my diet. All the sudden I was not his " happy normal RnY camper" any more. After whining a little, okay 3 times a week, to shut my lips up they scheduled an Endoscopy, surprise surprise I was the unhappy step- mother of a stomal stricture and a bunch of ulcers in my jejunem, I knew something was WRONG, it wasn't just post-surgery swelling because that's what his Nurse Practioner kept saying. I might not have the Fancy degrees--- but Baby, I knew ME. Been living in this body a Good Many Years! And after 5 months I still haven't let go of that Tornado's Tail! But I will, maybe a couple more dialating Endoscopies, I'll be all better, the PZICC line can come out, and I will be eating like all the rest of my surgery day twins! The difference between me and them? Even when I am all better , I will not drop out, go away, because my Bari- brothers and sisters have been so supportive I will remain a Bariatric Pal person. Maybe I might not post as much, but I will still cheer on others as they did me! No regret, no sorrow, even with the Minor Bumps in My Roadway I shall be a Proud RnY, grateful for my remaking, even at 73 I am still living better, healthier than I could prior. My PCP has to now admit I saved me from Death by a few years, I was getting That Bad, of course he wants to take credit for suggesting it to ME, nope I brought up the subject in 2015, when he and I were certain I would never make it to 2020 alive, at the very least I would be in a LTF, also known as a nursing home, because my body would be so broken down. Now I am thinner, not as much as I desired, the TPN has slowed down my weight plummet to 3 pounds a month, but I now grow healthier each and every day, that may not be a spectacular NSV to everyone else, but even outsiders say "You're so looking so much better," must have been as ugly as a pile of mud before, I smile And say Thank You, only my peers on here know my stuggles to get, this far, if they ask I MIGHT tell them about the surgery, otherwise they canbthink,i came to my senses and did it all MYSELF, good for my formerly battered Ego and sense of pride. I'm doing much better as a Happier Smaller Widow than I did. a mentally abused. despondent wife, big as the side of a barn, afraid to step outside without protection, cause I thought every other person loathed looking at me. Now I am emotionally strong enough to stand up on my own, if I make mistakes they are mine to make, don't have to live in someone's shadow apologizing for even existing. Mine is somewhat a difficult story, but be True to Yourself, in the long run, that's the Only Boss you'll need, as the Late Ricky Nelson wrote " If you can't please Everyone, better please Yourself!" Frustr8 out, have yourself a dyn-o-mite day.😛👍

First, let me say that this week I got my first, "I didn't recognize you!" from a coworker I hadn't seen since before the surgery. (I could tell something was weird because she was acting oddly shady toward me during the first part of the meeting, and then suddenly became normal several minutes later. Must have been when she put 2 and 2 together.) Anyway, on to the terrifying and hilarious NSV. So I'm walking rapidly down this long, empty hall at work and focused on the door all the way at the other end. I'm trying to take a quick bathroom break and I don't have a lot of time. I kinda glanced down to check my path ahead of me (since I'd previously been focused on the door and not watching where I was walking) and as I glanced down I suddenly saw something scurry around my feet. We've been known to have the occasional mouse in the building and I live in the midwest where it has been bitterly cold, which can push critters inside. Naturally, I freak out and do a little jig and start looking around, but I see nothing. I'm not sticking around to meet a mouse if I don't have to, so I start power walking to the door/end of the hallway and I see it scurry by my feet AGAIN! Suddenly, before the panic set in, a realization set in and I test my theory by walking slowly at first, then faster. Yep. It's my own feet. I can now see my own feet when I walk because my stomach has shrunk in size. No mice. Just my own damn feet. 🤣

Walking into a store, not digging to the rear of the rack or looking to see where the Plus sizes are hidden. Buying something because I like the style or color, not just because all they have that WILL FIT. And not having to stand to one side so people can get through. Wearing shorter skierts and even shorts in public and having people not suck in their breath as I walk or saunter by, the Dr are some of my Dream NSVs.

And now that January 2019 is about to end, have YOU had an NSV yourself?

Well congratulations to Peaches for selecting you, congratulations on your weight loss, you know, Bariatric Pal is one of the few places you can say " You are less the woman that you used to be" and it will be regarded as a compliment, not a put-down. What a wonderful 6 months YOU have had, and keep moving on toward your goals, and keep updating us as each NSV occurs.
